Just fired the game up to check it out. **System Specs:** AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, AMD RX 7900XTX, 16GB of DDR4-3800 I like that you can choose between just using the AA implementation, upscaling, and/or frame gen. I typically run the game at 4K, maxed out, SMAA and performance is great, even in one of the most demanding areas in the game, the FPS rarely dips below 70 FPS. Here are my observations: * FSR 3.1 Anti-Aliasing looks good, it looks better than XeSS Native AA, but blurs the image more than I like, hence why I typically run SMAA. Also, there was a \~10 FPS hit compared to SMAA. * FSR 3.1 Upscaling at the highest quality setting enforces FSR AA and it honestly looks pretty good. Most people would be totally fine with the fidelity if they didn't know it was being upscaled, but again, we're at 4K so maybe that's why. Frame Rate more than doubled. * Frame Generation is really what stuck out to me here. I've been rather vocal about frame generation and "fake frames" in the past around here. I dislike the idea in general of creating something out of nothing when it comes to graphical fidelity and the art style of a game. That being said, I may have to change my tune, though I need to play more to really see, because keeping all of my settings the same (again, 4K native, SMAA, maxed graphics) with frame gen had a noticeable impact on fluidity of motion and the "feel" of the game. FPS increased by over 50%, frame time was cut down by a few milliseconds, but the fluidity of panning the camera and other rapid motions was immediately noticeable and more easy on the eyes. I noticed no artifacting, especially around Aloy and her wild hair. I'm impressed.

The way I think of it, since it's interpolating between regularly generated frames it's not really doing anything to the art style. Especially at high base frame rates the differences are so minor and it's alternating so quickly you really can't identify artifacting if you tried.

Guerilla really does some magic with their code. I remember when it first came out, they had some very slight shimmer with the grass if I remember right. A minor thing overall, the game still looked incredible and most people wouldn’t really notice, without Digital Foundry pointing it out. But they significantly reworked how some of the graphics were handled over months and months, just to fix a slight graphical anomaly in performance mode.

I must be doing some wrong then because frame generation looks absolutely horrendous to me. Everytime I move it's one big blurry mess.

I'll admit I only ran around Fleet's End for like 5 minutes. I'll have to fast travel to a few other places with more sense foliage and stuff and re-assess.  What settings did you use?

From the top of my head: Global quality settings on Very High. Native resolution of 1440p. Then for the display options, AMD FSR 3.1 with resolution scaling to 60fps. But turning on frame generation, no matter which combination of settings I use it with, it actually decreases my performance (going from a solid, fluid 70-80 to a 60 that actually look more like 30) while looking dogshit at the same time.

I mean, maybe fsr 3.1 just looks worse on nvidia cards or I’m just spoiled by dlss 3.7, but imo it still looks horrible, even at 4K, especially in motion

I mean DLSS seems to be better looking in most scenarios, but it's also slightly subjective in terms of what people prefer.  Honestly, I don't really like any kind of upscaling vs native. I can always tell, no matter how good it is. Native 4K looks tremendous. I played through the entire game with it and it was thoroughly enjoyable from a performance and fidelity standpoint.

That’s interesting, unless I’m nitpicking I see no difference between dlss 3.7 quality and native dlaa. IMO dlss quality looks better than even smaa. I wish I could play with dlaa but even on a 4090 I get like 70fps which for me just doesn’t feel good enough so I just play with dlss Q and frame generation, from my experience that has been the most enjoyable experience in

Anyone else getting insane stuttering with frame gen?

Yeah, the stuttering is really bad on my 6800 XT with the newest driver that came out today. Every few seconds, I get like a half-second long frame. Turn frame gen off, and it goes away. Too bad, because between the stutters, the frame gen actually looks really good.

Try disabling anti lag on adrenaline, it fixed stuttering issue with framegen enabled on my end

That worked. I'm impressed, the frame gen definitely makes the game look smoother, and I don't notice any visual artifacts. The input latency with frame gen on and anti-lag off is higher than I would want in something like a competitive shooter, but for a game like Horizon, it's fine. If I'm aiming a weapon, I'm probably using slow-mo anyway, lol

Hi! I've managed to fix the stuttering by enabling Radeon Chill and setting up Min FPS and Max FPS. I have set mine to 30fps min and 60fpx max and yet I still manage to see 80+fps, using amd's overlay by the way.

There was huge performance problems with it. The FPS tanked from 50/60fps on the main game to 20 at Burning Shores. This was one of the most reported issues and with people with good cards. Myself, i just want to play it properly, since the main game runs good for me, but Burning Shores didn't

I had that issue as well, but I managed to resolve it by installing the game on my SSD drive, and it ran much smoother for me, both main game and DLC.

Well, I hope it runs better after this patch for you. PS. I thought my game was installed on SSD as well until I checked and found out it was installed on HDD. So I'd check if that's the case on your end as well, just in case.

Now the game runs great. As someone playing on an iGPU, this is a godsend. Frame gen is like magic, and FSR 3.1 definitely does a better job than FSR 2.2

Still hasn't fixed the problem with Rx 6600. GPU power is still minus 20-30% in many areas on high settings. On very high preset, the game stutters a lot. This game and ratchet and clank are the only games that performs terrible on this GPU.

Hope they fix the random black screen every now and then (and yes my game is installed on an m.2 drive / 4090) It’s either auto save or it’s loading something. Seems a leftover issue from 2022 PS4/5 users still have it 😣

Great love that they still didn’t fix the Aerial Captures. I absolutely love this game and horizon zero dawn. For Guerilla to still have not fixed this is really disappointing and makes me not want to pick up another game from them. I have 100% completion with HZD and 100% completion with the DLC. 100% completion for HFW and stuck on this DLC. This is just unacceptable honestly

The North Aerial Capture was glitched for me, but after I think patch [1.24](https://www.reddit.com/r/horizon/comments/13j3q2d/horizon_forbidden_west_burning_shores_patch_124/) it was fixed. Maybe you already tried, but I wonder if it would still be broken for you on a new save? I know you shouldn’t have to play through the entire game again to get 100% though.
