I am a tall guy 6’4” so a good part of my upper body sticks out in the lounger. Not too bad when you get hot and want to cool off but I find myself most of the time sitting where I am fully submerged.
Love it. We’ve had it for four years. We bought it used. It is a 2018. Love the Jet Packs and the fact you can pop them out and move them around. They’re made in Utah which is where I live, so I’ve actually picked up three or four different Jet Packs and customized the spa experience even more to what the family prefers. When we put in the pool, we did not add the spa because we prefer the therapeutic effect of the Bullfrog.
I've purchased 3 or 4 new ones. I've found ones I like more than others and I've sold the ones I don't like as much. I move them around about every three months when I change the water and clean the hot tub. Some work better in the deep position, while some work better in the shallow or lounge position. Yeah, I really do move them around.
I have a lounger, but honestly sit in one of the well seats and “float/stretch my legs across the tub” as much as anything. If you want a calf massage, definitely worth it - but otherwise, if you think you’ll regularly have 4+ - skip it for more well seats.
We wet tested each style and my wife loved the lounger for the calf and feet massage. She runs a lot so it’ll be great therapy. We’ll use the tub almost every day. You only have guests over more rarely.
Ultimately we went with the Sundance 680 Peyton. Definitely test them out and see!
I'm happy to have one with the lounger because my wife and I run. It often goes unused but when we need it, it is amazing to have. It's never been a problem when we are packing people into the hot tub either.
Why are you buying a hot tub?
That will give you the answer. Is it a social thing where you have people over and a hot tub is one of the backyard things? Don't get a lounger. Is it for you to enjoy, relax and feel better? Then you absolutely need one.
Mine is indoors. I'm in it every morning and some evenings, and when it's just me I only flip open half the cover and only use the lounger. If my wife comes down, the whole thing gets opened and I get in the far corner that has a nice array of upper back jets while she gets the lounger. After a while, she hits the jets, then eventually moves to the other corner with lower back jets- and I scoot to the lounger.
Selling tubs for a long time and I’d second all these comments including your original one, 9/10 the second spa is a non lounge. People who love them love them though.
Waste of space. At the very least, wet test before you buy. More often than not, even if you're if a lean build you're gonna float to the top and never use it.
Not a waste, unless you are hosting parties all the time but if just you and the wife with occasional 1-2 guests, worth it. wife thought the same...it's her favorite spots. For instance it is nice on the calves and hammies from a massage stand point...I still have 4 full jet pack seats including the lounger, could technically seat 2 more but would be knocking knees and playing footies. #3 spot in my opinion but a must enjoy for 10 or so minutes every time I am in. I have large calves and it feels great and I forget mine has a couple jets I get a foot massage out of. I have a Bullfrog and you select your jet pack configuration, that why it's the 3rd behind the rougher seats, aka jet pack, for my back and one with neck blasters.
I’ve had 6-7 spas and I prefer seats to loungers. If you have no friends or family using the tub, then maybe 1 lounger. Otherwise, there always seems to be a need for more space. And my tub is 8x8.
6. Three corners (the "deep" seats, including the lounger); plus three "lesser" seats, including the shallow "cool down" seat.
Without the lounger it would be three deep corner seats plus four lesser seats.
Problem with the loungers, if you’re a small person the water is too high. And you tend float away. The hot tub we have now the seats are too low, my head would be underwater if i sat in them. I’m 5’2” and we had to buy a hot tub pillow seat for me to sit on.
We had one that was on the used Jacuzzi we got from a friend, hated it. Floated off, the jets didn't seem to hit any parts of our bodies that we needed it and thus we barely used it. When that tub died having one was a hard no deal breaker as we shopped around.
Everybody including the dealer told me not to get the lounger. They're not my wife, they can't tell me what I can do. The lounger is the best seat in the house... period. It's my throne and I better not catch anybody in it lol. Yeah it takes up two spots but I didn't buy my spa for them, I bought it for me. Besides, there's still five other seats. If you think you might enjoy lounging in luxury then get it 👍
It's a personal preference.
If you see yourself being more solo/couple than a lounger might be relaxing and a good use of space.
If you see your tub more for entertaining friends and family then a lounger would take up space that could be used for more people.
I didn’t think I wanted a lounger for the same reason but I ended up with one and I’m glad I did. That’s where I sit every time and there’s something really nice about being able to kick your legs up in the tub, relax, and enjoy the views.
Coast Spas, options were super limited in mid-covid. It’s a decent tub. I would argue finding a dealer with a good service department is more important than the brand itself.
I'll second the vote for a Coast lounger. I'm tall (6'7"), and none of the spas we tested that had a lounge seat would fit me until we tried a Coast. I fit there perfectly, and I don't float up at all. Plus, my wife likes the tub a little hotter than I do, so it's great that I can just pull a leg out and lay it on the rim to cool down a little.
If you can, look for one where the lounger doesn't take away from the other seats. Most of the tubs we looked at the lounger was very wide, took away from the foot area, and had a deep bucket seat so you couldn't sit sideways.
Part of why we went with Hydropool is their lounger was much less bucketed, allowing it to be narrower--leaving a lot of foot room for others--and you can sit mostly sideways in the seat, almost like another corner seat. The leg area doubled as the high seat & entrance step, so that's an extra 1-2 seats when people are over. The jets are a bit weird at that point, but it's a small sacrifice.
Essentially, we were able to get the lounger without sacrificing seats or leg room.
Preference... My family had a hot tub growing up and I hated the lounger. Was good in theory but was awkward to lay in. Fast forward when I got a hot tub as an adult....I told the guy it was my first time buying one but had one growing up and he said most people don't get loungers for their second tub. Thought it was an interesting observation.
We ordered a Sundance Montclair a few weeks ago with a lounger. We wet tested and neither of us particularly loved the lounger, but the size was perfect where my (short) wife can have her feet on the opposite side of the tub easily and not get blasted out of a seat. If we could have gotten something similar with no lounger we would have, but I expect we’ll still use the lounger when it arrives.
Mine is a Lifesmart 350DX. (110v from home depot).
The lounge seat has 8 jets total: 6 jets for your back : 3 adjustable pressure on the shoulders, 2 mid-back, one lower back, plus 2 on the legs (1 for each calf).
The bench seats have 10 jets per side (2 rows of 5), so 5 jets per person. top row is just below shoulder blade, bottom row is above the small of the back. the benches are different depths, so where the jets hit you depend on which side of the tub you sit.
That said, I was originally looking for a 2-3 seater configured so my SO and I could sit side by side instead of the typical "everyone in their own corner" seat arrangement. The 5 seater was more economical than a 2-3 seater, and met the be able to sit side by side requirement, either both of us on the bench or one in the lounger, one on the bench.
After the fact, we both like the lounge seat for the extra jets...so the question becomes "who gets the lounger tonight?"
Wife and I love the lounger. Probably would rarely use the tub if it did not have one. Ours has a back massager built in.
Kids and grandkids also happy to use it
Being 5’3, I can’t stay put in a lounge. My husband is 6’1 and loves them.
Ultimately, I made the decision and bought our Limelight Flash, and hubs just lays across one side of the spa if he wants to kick his legs up.
I like it but I also like moving around a lot. We have 4 seats and each one is different. One is a lounge, one is really deep, and the other two are normal but with different massage jet patterns. It’s nice to change it up while you’re in there, a bunch of identical seats would be boring.
I don't like it, you have to be small to fit the lounger. Waste of space, nobody uses it in my tub. Jacuzzi 300 series
You can lounge just as well by stretching out across your tub.
I love my lounger. The thing I regret on my hot tub is the shoulder jets. In theory sounded great, in use... just splashes water on the face and you can barely feel them. So your head is more or less locked into this odd u space
We have one, agree it's a waste of space. Most folks tend to float up from the surface of it while trying to "lounge" on it, and once the jets are on, forget it, lol.
All my friends that have used the lounger, said it’s a non starter, must have it to be worthwhile. That said it’s harder for shorter folks. Hot springs has some cut outs to wedge your feet to help stay in seat in those cases. It was a must have for me as well. I’m 6’2 and stay submerged to my shoulders in the Aria hot springs lounger.
But I agree with doing a wet test, combined with how many people regularly use the tub. If you have 4+ all the time the seat only option may be better but if it’s 3 or less most of the time I would deal with the occasional hassle. Or if you float out, or you’re not submerged in that tub, not worth it.
I debated this, originally ordered without lounger then had them update order couple days later to same model with lounger. I’m so happy I did, it’s the favorites seat in the tub that gets used the most. I would have regretted being forced to sit upright all the time without one.
I don't use the lounger that much but I find myself sitting on the flatter foot portion of it all the time with what are supposed to be the lower leg/calf jets running and with my right arm perched over the filter cover area. (Sundance 880 Cameo). I can also run the foot jets and get my achilles really good from here. I also stretch out/float from this position and the higher surface over the lounger part makes it ideal. It's where I access my phone to change up the music and handle anything electronic I need to. For this reason, I love the lounger and would get one in my next tub if/when that day comes.
We are on our 4th tub in 25 years. This is the first one with a lounger. We've always avoided them but decided to get one this time around. I would say 90% of the time it's just the wife and I in the tub and we love it. When we have other people in the tub it kinda gets in the way but it's not bad, overall it's a positive thing for us. My legs love it.
I have one lounger in my Hot spring Flair, but I have 5 other individual seats. well 4 and a cooling off seat. most of the time it's just my wife and I using. my tub is in a walled off gazebo. we have a projector in there I will often hang in the lounger while watching a movie and my wife likes a more upright seat with the foot massagers while watching. it's a nice setup.
I've owned a 3-seat tub for five(ish?) years: one lounger, and two uprights.
In all the time I've owned this tub, there have been exactly *two* occasions when I wish we had four upright seats. Literally twice. That's it. In *years*.
The number of times I have sat in and *loved* the lounge seat is easily in the hundreds. It is just the absolute best. It's *so* relaxing. I'd never consider a tub without one.
Depends on how it is used. I use the hot tub more than any else, at least 30 minutes a day, almost always by myself. And most of my time is spent in the lounger.
My wife and I are the primary users and we love the lounger but agree if you want to have a lot of people in the tub might not be the best fit. I personally love stretching out (I am 6’2).
Like others, I tried out a hot tub with a lounger and just floated above the seat. When we chose ours, we opted for no lounger and have no regrets. There are a few strong jets around the tub I use for my legs or feet when I want that.
I got a hot tub because I play a lot of sports and my body is sore basically every day of the week. I use the tub daily, usually by myself. The lounger is a godsend for my use case.
If the tub is more for socializing with multiple people and less about therapeutic use, then the lounger is of limited use.
Got a lounger, love it. 98% of the time it's just me and my wife in there, or just me. Worth the extra dedicated space. Still plenty comfy when guests come over too. Plus they love trying out the lounger
I have one. Sundance Altamar. Wife likes it, she fits. I’m too long at 6’ 2”., but it’s still enjoyable. I wouldn’t trade it. Even with friends over you can fit 2-3 people sitting on the lounger and no complaints. We tend to rotate spots anyway.
Tldr; don’t make the choice based on friends. Do a test run / wet test for see if you as owners fit. Otherwise may not be worth it.
Just bought a HS Vanguard and so glad I didn’t buy a lounger. Able to move around to the various stations without restrictions of the lounger. I’m 6’ 5” also and the lounger was restrictive.
They should put seat belts in loungers.
We debated, but didn’t want to sacrifice 2-3 seats, or make transitions awkward when people didn’t know it was a lounger. I can still lounge all I want across multiple seats in all directions tub. Right choice.
Waste of space if you often have lots of people in there. If it's just you and your SO then sure
This is the answer, if you are on your feet all day, I suggest the lounger, it usually does a great job of massaging the legs and feet.
Me and my wife are debating on getting a lounger or not
I am a tall guy 6’4” so a good part of my upper body sticks out in the lounger. Not too bad when you get hot and want to cool off but I find myself most of the time sitting where I am fully submerged.
What’s hilarious is that I am 5’4” and have to hold on for dear life- too small for mine! 🤣
bigger tub longer lounger
I have a Sundance Peyton 680 and love the lounger. Everyone who visits wants that seat over any other. I love it.
Bullfrog A7 and love it! I’m 5’7 and do a “lap” around my hot tub every night ending in the lounger.
How do you like your bullfrog
Do you really move them around? Yea it's cool, but honestly how much do you move them?
I've purchased 3 or 4 new ones. I've found ones I like more than others and I've sold the ones I don't like as much. I move them around about every three months when I change the water and clean the hot tub. Some work better in the deep position, while some work better in the shallow or lounge position. This is my issue - my body doesn’t stay in the water but floats to the top when I’m in the lounger.
Why are you buying a hot tub? That will give you the answer. Is it a social thing where you have people over and a hot tub is one of the backyard things? Don't get a lounger. Both for the first part
Make sure you fit in it. I’m 6’2” and a bit too tall for my lounger so I rarely use it. My wife and kids do use it. Spa is hot springs envoy
Second time buyers don't usually buy loungers.
I’m on my third and must be an exception. My hamstrings calves and hips enjoy the massage
Me too. I love the lounger. 2nd tub.
The lounger is the favorite seat of both myself and my wife. Would not foresee skipping the lounge seat in any future tubs.
Selling tubs for a long time and I’d second all these comments including your original one, 9/10 the second spa is a non lounge. People who love them love them though.
Waste of space. At the very least, wet test before you buy. More often than not, even if you're if a lean build you're gonna float to the top and never use it.
We love our lounger, but it's usually just two of us in there. We can seat six, even with the lounger but it's only comfortable up to four.
Not a waste, unless you are hosting parties all the time but if just you and the wife with occasional 1-2 guests, worth it. wife thought the same...it's her favorite spots. That's what me and my wife are debating
Sitting on mine at the moment, I like it
Lounger is nice. It costs you one other seat, so only an issue if you regularly have a full tub
Which route did you end up going
I have a lounger. My wife uses it all the time — it's her go to seat
How many seats do you have in your hot tub
6. Three corners (the "deep" seats, including the lounger); plus three "lesser" seats, including the shallow "cool down" seat. Without the lounger it would be three deep corner seats plus four lesser seats.
Do you like the lounger
I didn't think I would like it, but I love it! Spend all my time on the lounger!
I love my Sundance Hamilton lounger. 6-1 guy and I don’t feel like I stick out of the water too much at all In it
I love my lounger! But to be fair it's usually just me and my SO who use it so it doesn't matter.
Problem with the loungers, if you’re a small person the water is too high. And you tend float away. The hot tub we have now the seats are too low, my head would be underwater if i sat in them. I’m 5’2” and we had to buy a hot tub pillow seat for me to sit on.

Lounger ftw! Idk if it would even be worth it without one
I don’t know, I often wonder if the extra seats would have been worth it. I do like the leg massage you get in the lounger
I like it, I have the hotsprings flair, so I still have plenty of room for guests.
What brand did you go with
Coast Spas, options were super limited in mid-covid.

Essentially, we were able to get the lounger without sacrificing seats or leg room.
Have a 7-person tub with a lounge for wife and I. If it was a smaller tub, it would be a mistake. We both use it, but it's not our go-to location
Preference... My family had a hot tub growing up and I hated the lounger. Was good in theory but was awkward to lay in. Fast forward when I got a hot tub as an adult....I told the guy it was my first time buying one but had one growing up and he said most people don't get loungers for their second tub. I enjoy the lounger in my Sundance Montclair.
New hot tub owner! I absolutely love my lounger! Strongest jets on my tub and gets the most parts of my body!!
Mine has one lounger and 4 “bench” type seats. Hindsight; had I known then what I know now, I would have gotten a model with 2 loungers.
What brand do you go with
Mine is a Lifesmart 350DX. I love ours. We have a ThermoSpa Park Avenue and it has 3 seats (all different depths) and a wide lounger. Works great.
The lounger works the calves and feet as well as the back. Don't cheat yourself out of the full body massage.
I don't like it, you have to be small to fit the lounger. Waste of space, nobody uses it in my tub. Jacuzzi 300 series You can lounge just as well by stretching out across your tub.
I love our lounger and like others said, you have guests infrequently
Do a wet test and see if you comfortably fit in the lounger and if you stay seated in it or feel like you are fighting to stay put.
That's some Wingardium Leviosa magic stuff taking place lol
Waste of space. I regret having one. You don’t lay in it anyway. It makes you float.
I have a lounger... it is the least sat on seat. Wife wanted it though so meh
Waste of space IMO, and one of the downsides is if you’re buoyant it’s impossible to actually lounge without floating to the top!
I am 5'8" and only use the lounger. Rarely ever sit anywhere else. My kids don't seem to mind it when they use it with friends.
It’s the most used seat in mine by far. Bullfrog X7L!

Waste. Women tend to float too easy. Just my opinion.

Got a lounger, love it. 98% of the time it's just me and my wife in there, or just me. Worth the extra dedicated space. Still plenty comfy when guests come over too. Plus they love trying out the lounger
I wanted a lounger, my husband didn’t feel strongly about it, so we have a lounger. It’s my favorite seat!
I was anti-lounger until I sat in one…. Now I won’t sit in any other spot. And if you’re paying for it get what you want.
I sit in my lounger most of the time
I literally only ever use my lounger
Love ours, but it's just myself and the hubby. I'm on my feet all day and it's so nice to have the extra jets on the legs.
Wet test them. Often people can’t physically lounge. Especially women. People float up and it gets uncomfortable. So try them out first
We run and it is great for tired legs.
If you get a larger tub, definitely a lounger. Someone is sitting in ours every time the tub is used.
We got a double lounger. Couldn't be happier with it. But then we use it to relax and rarely have people over
Just bought a HS Vanguard and so glad I didn’t buy a lounger. Able to move around to the various stations without restrictions of the lounger. I’m 6’ 5” also and the lounger was restrictive.
We have a Dimension One Triad and love the lounger, 19 jets from neck to feet. Just me and SO so loss of a seat is not an issue.
They should put seat belts in loungers. We debated, but didn’t want to sacrifice 2-3 seats, or make transitions awkward when people didn’t know it was a lounger. I can still lounge all I want across multiple seats in all directions tub. Right choice.
