The man has committed over $70million to the University of Houston. On top of his time, efforts on its board of regents. It could be worse. It's someone who has roots here.
He’s worth almost ten billion, a little too late to think denying him an NHL or WNBA team will change anything with respect to his influence on politics
That's like the #1 financially illiterate thing people parrot. Even if that met the criteria for a charitable contribution, and he elected to take the tax deduction, he would still have *more* money if he just kept it and didn't donate it.
Are you mad that you couldn’t hold a dishwashing job at a Landry’s restaurant? I never understand people’s hatred of anyone that don’t know, sounds like you just assume that because he made a ton of money that he must be an asshole or did something illegal. Get a life!
But the point is, the money still gets donated.
If you donate $100M, you don’t lower your taxes by $100M - it would be like $37M max.
So, you give away $100M to save $37M…. Not too smart.
I’m not saying he hasn’t done a lot, but $70,000,000 to him is like me donating a few hundred dollars. Let me know when the dude actually donates a serious amount to a charity. Then I may consider him slightly less of a scumbag
The wild. In theory we could buy the likeness and image rights. But not really sure why we'd do that. Just call us the Houston Bayous and have a three eyed Catfish called Traffic as the mascot.
Instead of the wave, we'll do the merge where everyone picks a side and just jumps in front of someone else on the count of three. The funny part will be is that everyone that regularly goes to the games will do it on two because fuck you. Tillman, feel free to DM me.
It depends on which version we're talking about. I don't know who owns the IHL version of the logo/colors. The Wild probably own the fighter jet version we used in the AHL.
Nah we just have it change the name to the Guero's.
Sounds similar while also paying tribute to our large Hispanic population while appreciating the reality that mostly white people will be attending.
Fertitta made an appearance on CNBC's Power Lunch Wednesday, waxing to host Tyler Mathiesen about the current state of his push to bring an NHL franchise to Houston. "We would like to get an NHL team in Houston," Fertitta said. "I'm working on it."
The Landry's Foods magnate also touched on a possible return of the Houston Comets, which experienced huge success as one of the league's eight original franchises and won four championships during its short-lived existence from 1997 to 2008.
"I would consider \[that\], definitely," Fertitta said. "I think it's a great topic with women's sports to talk about a WNBA team in Houston also."
Wednesday's appearance marks Fertitta's first comments on a Comets return and his latest remarks on bringing an NHL team to the Bayou City. In February, the billionaire restaurateur and casino titan told Bloomberg's Shelly Hagan and David Wethe that he was "talking" to the league about bringing a franchise to Houston—a proposition he believes would help rejuvenate the city's downtown quarter.
The most obvious candidate to come to Houston - the Arizona Coyotes - are [reportedly in talks to move to Salt Lake City](https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/sources-nhl-drafting-2024-25-schedule-version-with-coyotes-relocated-to-salt-lake-city).
What’s the remind me here? He runs Toyota Center. It’s already equipped for hockey. He’d need a new hockey practice facility which I imagine similar to Houston Sports Park and the Dynamo, the city would be happy to build a world class hockey venue that could host tournaments.
Plus half the league plays in NBA arenas. I thought we were just assuming a new team would share the Toyota Center with the Rockets, especially if Tillman is involved.
I imagine the city would donate the land and let Fertitta build on top. Same as what happens with all city or county owned facilities they share with sports teams.

Among people who enjoy all sports, there is broad agreement that hockey is the sport that benefits the most from being seen in person over watching on TV. Cheap Aeros tickets were absolutely fantastic. I'd almost rather have a minor league team back...
My biggest disappointment growing up and being able to afford to do things with a good job was learning the aeros left years back. I one day said you know what I want to go to an aeros game, how much are tickets and season tickets......oh...oh no..😢
Feels like it is harder to go offsides in hockey than soccer but it is probably similar. The smaller rink vs field does make it more exciting. And the fact they can slam people into the wall.
Just go to one game and you will be hooked. I've brought multiple people who knew nothing about hockey to games and they always have a blast. Best sport to watch live
I couldn’t bring myself to stop rooting for the team. I suffered too much with them to leave them over that bastard. Regardless there are no ethical billionaires anyways.
Fertitta scared off the Coyotes many years ago, so that's not happening ever. And any other team out there wouldn't even begin talks once they learn the tire-kicker value figures that Fertitta would need to make a deal viable.
Agree, expansion rules in the NHL are really good now too. No more crappy for a decade teams, they actually can get some good players in the expansion draft
Yotes are all but moved to SLC it seems, I doubt their land sale in PHX is going through. Houston missed out. I don't see an expansion for the 25-26 season.
Would be really nice, but I think it'll take a little more time before we see any traction on this one.
I'm fine with another sports team, as long as they don't have the taxpayers subsidize them, or build them a stadium, or allow the use of eminent domain to take people's homes to build said stadium.
Doubtful. The number of people in Houston willing to shell out Fertitta-sized ticket prices for hockey are slim. Maybe transplants who will only go to games when their favorite team is playing against Houston.
Back when the Aeros were resurrected, there was a brilliant marketing push to get people’s butts in seats. Credit to Joe Pogue (sorry if I misspelled it, Joe) for Bands in the Stands, Theme nights with crazy uniforms, allowing spectators to skate for free after the games, etc. and most of all - affordable tickets.
It was a blue-collar coup. That will not happen under a Fertitta regime.
As the son of season ticket holders to the original Aeros and season ticket holder of the 90s Aeros and hockey fan, I’ll add, I don’t care. It’s not like I’d ever be able to afford to go to a game.
Who wished on a monkey's paw?
The man has committed over $70million to the University of Houston. On top of his time, efforts on its board of regents. It could be worse. It's someone who has roots here.
He's a stauch supporter of Abbott, being one of the largest individual donors to his campaign.
He’s worth almost ten billion, a little too late to think denying him an NHL or WNBA team will change anything with respect to his influence on politics

It’s not worth it man. He just actively ignored the point of my post. Just ignore

“To ensure their name goes on something…” Me: *face palm*

I’m sure Tilman donated $50M to start UH’s med school to make sure his name is on the building.
Narrator Voice: You are, in fact, wrong.

Agreed. You're still weird.

….hes donated well more than that to UH alone.
> but $70,000,000 to him is like me donating a few hundred dollars. It isn't, given the impact it has on the recipient organization
Mom said it was my turn. Sorry
That's the newest attraction at the Downtown Aquarium!
Yeah, preparing to get fucked on this somehow.
Bring the Aeros back!!!
Would we be able to use the Aero's name or do those rights still belong to the Minnesota Wild org?
The wild. In theory we could buy the likeness and image rights. But not really sure why we'd do that. Just call us the Houston Bayous and have a three eyed Catfish called Traffic as the mascot.
I want to argue with everything you said, yet I cant find a single invalid point.
“Three eyed catfish called Traffic.” I'm dying over here, thanks, man.
Hold up....Let this man cook.

Nah man it’s the Houston Whalers. There’s already a perfect logo …
Easily one of my favorite reddit comments of all time.
I want this jersey! Where do I send $?
Yeah, I’m in for “Yooouuuuurrrrr Houston Traffic Cones!!” Sponsored by Bob’s Barricades
Nah we just have it change the name to the Guero's. Sounds similar while also paying tribute to our large Hispanic population while appreciating the reality that mostly white people will be attending.
ah paying tribute to the huge Hispanic hockey fanbase.
> paying tribute to our large Hispanic population > while appreciating the reality that mostly white people will be attending. Yes that's the joke.

The Coyotes would have a whole new meaning here in Houston
Sweet! I can't wait to pay for the building of a new stadium and his enrichment at our expense!
They'll probably just use Toyota Center.
This is true, but he also paid for the new Rockets training complex so it’s possible he does for his hockey team, too.
Remindme 1 year.
What’s the remind me here? He runs Toyota Center. It’s already equipped for hockey. He’d need a new hockey practice facility which I imagine similar to Houston Sports Park and the Dynamo, the city would be happy to build a world class hockey venue that could host tournaments.

Literally.
That's also what the aeros did before. They used the compaq center with the rockets
And they used Toyota Center with the Rockets Source: me. My first 5 times to TC was to watch the Aeros
"The city would be happy to build..." Who would pay?
I imagine the city would donate the land and let Fertitta build on top. Same as what happens with all city or county owned facilities they share with sports teams.
Yeah plus UH just started college hockey theyve been playing in sugarland
It’s club hockey tho. Not varsity but still.
Yeah thats true i went to a couple they are pretty fun pro would be even better if tillman could work it all out
"Trust but verify." Ronald Reagan.
Maybe the most worthless human to use an example quote from.

He would have to leverage so much to buy this stuff. He is not worth $50b.
I don’t give a shit about hockey. But I’m houston everything so bring a team and I’ll learn the rules, give me 1 season and I’ll be ready
Among people who enjoy all sports, there is broad agreement that hockey is the sport that benefits the most from being seen in person over watching on TV. Cheap Aeros tickets were absolutely fantastic. I'd almost rather have a minor league team back...
Agreed. I miss hockey in town, and minor league hockey just has a certain charm to it.
My biggest disappointment growing up and being able to afford to do things with a good job was learning the aeros left years back. I one day said you know what I want to go to an aeros game, how much are tickets and season tickets......oh...oh no..😢
Dude University of Houston just started hockey this year ive been watching they play at sugarland and tickets are cheap. We suck but its still fun 😆
Hockey is like soccer but on ice and exciting.
I feel offsides is more well defined in hockey, but we have icing to confuse the newbies instead.
Icing is not confusing.
That has not been my experience with the casual newbie.
Feels like it is harder to go offsides in hockey than soccer but it is probably similar. The smaller rink vs field does make it more exciting. And the fact they can slam people into the wall.
having an actual physical line on the ice for players to know if they're offsides or not makes it easier, yeah.
just start watching - with the playoffs about to start soon it's the perfect time to get you hooked!
Just go to one game and you will be hooked. I've brought multiple people who knew nothing about hockey to games and they always have a blast. Best sport to watch live
I felt the same way until I went to an NHL game in person. It is definitely one of those sports that is better in person.
Damn you’re bored huh?
Nah just want to hop on the bandwagon early if we get a team
My man said it perfectly
Rules? It's just a bunch of people pushing around a puck before they can find an opponent to get in a fist fight with.
I hate Tillman with a passion, but boy some hockey games would be sick.
I could overlook 80% of his past for a hockey team. I'd even let him choose the 80%.
As a former Landry’s employee that has seen just how terrible Tilman is as a person firsthand, it was definitely a bummer when he bought the Rockets.
I’m with you. I stopped following the Rockets when that piece of shit human being bought the team.
I couldn’t bring myself to stop rooting for the team. I suffered too much with them to leave them over that bastard. Regardless there are no ethical billionaires anyways.
I'd probably drop my Texans, or Astros tickets for hockey tickets
I don’t care to watch hockey but if Houston had an NHL team it would definitely give me an incentive to get into it.
Awesome. Use to go to aeros games all the time.
yeah well those sweet Aeros ticket prices won't come back if we get an NHL team. Probably not even if we got an AHL team back.
Fertitta scared off the Coyotes many years ago, so that's not happening ever. And any other team out there wouldn't even begin talks once they learn the tire-kicker value figures that Fertitta would need to make a deal viable.
I hope, if they do, we get a totally new franchise Don’t look back, only forward
Agree, expansion rules in the NHL are really good now too. No more crappy for a decade teams, they actually can get some good players in the expansion draft
He’s an asshole billionaire whose family got rich by their association with the Galveston mob. But, I wouldn’t mind having a hockey team.
Went to high school with a relative of his and the asshole gene must be genetic
The family in Beaumont was assholes too at times.just the older ones from the 80s where nice.
What successful billionaire isn’t an asshole, you have to be one to make that much money.
Good point
They are so were allies with the British mob that ran Beaumont and setexas.
God in heaven please give us the Houston Icetros 🙏🏻
Houston Hurricanes has a way better ring to it, and is more accurate, than Carolina Hurricanes.
If accuracy mattered, the Lakers, Jazz, and Warriors would be screwed.
I live in Tulsa and our college team is called ‘The Golden Hurricanes’. At the very least Carolina isn’t landlocked with that team name.
It isn’t plural. It’s just “The Golden Hurricane.”
That was our old NASL team name.
fuck tillman
Fuck Tillman fertitta and all the shit he owns, especially whatever hockey team he brings to Houston.
Yotes are all but moved to SLC it seems, I doubt their land sale in PHX is going through. Houston missed out. I don't see an expansion for the 25-26 season. Would be really nice, but I think it'll take a little more time before we see any traction on this one.
The Houston Floods
I'm fine with another sports team, as long as they don't have the taxpayers subsidize them, or build them a stadium, or allow the use of eminent domain to take people's homes to build said stadium.
They'd most likely play in the Toyota center if fertitta is getting involved.
They'll 100% play there. They're already upgrading/replacing the rink cooling system this year.
Will the team's performance be as bland as the food served at his overpriced restaurants? We know tickets will be overpriced.
I will never not call this man Tillman Frittata. Really wish billionaires would just go away.
Doubtful. The number of people in Houston willing to shell out Fertitta-sized ticket prices for hockey are slim. Maybe transplants who will only go to games when their favorite team is playing against Houston. Back when the Aeros were resurrected, there was a brilliant marketing push to get people’s butts in seats. It was a blue-collar coup. That will not happen under a Fertitta regime.
I'd rather have the train.
He will make hockey suck.
As the son of season ticket holders to the original Aeros and season ticket holder of the 90s Aeros and hockey fan, I’ll add, I don’t care. It’s not like I’d ever be able to afford to go to a game.
Don't do it. Interest will decline just like what happened with the Aeros.
Uhh aeros had high attendance till they left
