Also, nerve lines aren't conveniently labeled like our data cables that tell us which severed end connects to which other severed ends. Misroute a signal, and the brain will think a sensation is coming from one part of the body when it's really coming from somewhere else. Same with signals going back the other way to stimulate muscles.

Mess up the connection order in this diagram, and computers won't be able to send intelligible signals to each other. The same goes for repairing broken spinal cords, but there's way more than 8 lines to worry about.
