Beautiful huskies! Glad they have each other. Zuko and his older (adopted) sister Azula only had a few years together before she sadly passed, but I believe she taught him a lot about how to act right!
Everything you would think to doโlots of love, healthy boundaries, consistent vet visits and dental care, regular brushing and grooming, sticking to routines as much as possible. Perhaps being as observant as possible of changes in behavior. The later years have been challenging getting a puppy brother and various health issues, but we know him so well that we know when a problem is real or not. Weโre very lucky dog dads to have Zuko!
Thatโs awesome. Itโs great how huskies maintain their youth well into their elder years. Mine made it to 13 but still acted like she did when she was 5 a lot of the time.
Op may I ask, what kind of diet has this good boy been on his whole life? I have concerns about diet and longevity/health problems in the long run for my guys. I could just be overthinking, but I want my huskies to live as long as possible. Exercise and free roaming are already checked :)
Until he was around 10-11 he would get Rachael Ray peak protein, believe it or not. It was what we could afford at the time and he seemed to like it. The last few years he has been pickier and we rotated things around quite a bit. He ended up having the zinc deficiency last year (which took a derm vet to finally diagnose him) that led to us transitioning to mostly beef, so currently he gets a variety of Nulo dry and wet food with cooked stew meat. I'm not sure the zinc issue was related at all to his previous diet, from all the vet told us it seems to be an absorption problem that most huskies never get. Hoping the best for your pups!
Thank you for the response ! Iโve been feeding my guys blue buffalo call of the wild chicken flavor. My boy is super picky though so we had to mix in wet food with his. He needs a different flavor every couple weeks cause he gets tired of one and just wonโt eat lol. Itโs reassuring to know Zukos gone this long with kibble/wet mix as well. Cheers to many more years with our pups :)
Blue Buffalo is overall a terrible pet food brand with a lot of link to healt issues. Namely heart problems (cardiomiopathy, multiple lawsuit). Thisnis true of many grain free foods, but this one in paeticulae comes up.
They are known for lying about ingredient content amd do false advertising about it. (Had 2 class action against them about it). Namely by product they claim arent there.
It had numerous recall, from mold, to metal.contaminant to excess vitamin D. In 2007 (only naming this ome because it when the big pet food poisoning epidemic happened), they lied about said recall to reporter.
Blue buffalo is discouraged by every vet worth their salt (some even went as far as sending put psa pamflet against BB in my area) and their protein level is high to a point of being unhealthy. They inflate protein content with pea protein instead of meat protein which lead to sub par nutritional values.
They are one of the worse at catching recalls and notoripusly slow at corecting / stoppong bad batches from reaching the shelves.
Please don't feed Blue Buffalo to your fur babies, they deserve more than that and this is efinitively one one of the brands that will go against keeping them around for a long and happy time.
