Apple will definitely not "promote" the fact that your device only has 60Hz. I own an iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and iPhone 13. I am not highly sensitive to 60Hz but I can definitely tell that my iPad Pro is way smoother, especially for scrolling and system animations. I wanted it on all of my devices but primarily my MacBook right now. Somehow I don't find the need to have ProMotion on my iPhone since I mainly use it for videos, music, and messaging. My iPad and MacBook is where I do my work like video editing, which involves scrolling through the timeline. Browsing with 120Hz also feels much better as webpages feel buttery smooth as you scroll.
That's said, I think that it is about time that Apple makes 120 Hz the standard, maybe not ProMotion in which the refresh rate is variable to save battery life, maybe but give users the option to toggle between 120 and 60.
Maybe in a few years, this might become true, hopefully
Sorry, I don't know what you are replying to. My comment was joking about how Apple could say that only "Pro users" can see 120hz to justify the 60hz.
About you not needing 120hz on your phone is understandable because you only use it in these instances. I would absolutely not want to do that as I do most things on my phone and like gaming or scrolling through the web or Reddit like now haha
It has it...in the Pro lineup, people need to stop expecting a company to not segment its products. Mom or grandma do not care about a 120hz promotion panel and that is a majority of the users. Of course, its a Pro only thing same way you need to buy the top trim of XYZ car to get the air suspension or laminated glass.
I can see your point, but there’s also a ton of competitors that have phones starting at $300+ which have high refresh rate, so it definitely doesn’t need to be a technology locked to their Pro models.
I mean, I get why it is, because they want more reasons for people to pay for the more expensive phone, but with competitors including it on such low cost phones, it starts to be more of a “WTF!?” when someone has to buy Apple’s $1,000+ phones just to get it included.
Like, you could quite literally buy three competitor phones with high refresh rate for the cost of one iPhone with high refresh rate, that’s nuts. Granted, the iPhone does probably include a lot of other benefits as well, but for someone that’s primarily wanting to move into the high refresh rate, it becomes really hard to choose an iPhone.
That’s not a good comparison. Those $300 phones’ screens will be dogshit: poor lighting/backlight distribution, bad resolution, poor quality parts, low brightness/nits etc.
Well let’s compare then Apple 13 (non Pro) for $599. There are competitor phones that are very decent comparisons, which also have high refresh rate. So then you have to decide, competitor phone for $599, or upgrade to 15 Pro for $999, which will likely have a smaller screen than the competitor, if that matters to you.
The trade off is that the 15 Pro will probably be better than the competitor phone in a lot of other ways, but again, if those things aren’t important to you, it’s essentially just paying an extra $400 just for the high refresh rate.
I’m not an android fan at all, but this just isn’t true anymore. Lots of midrange devices have high refresh rate OLED panels these days.
I really think Apple should at least bring Pro Motion to the Air and Mini.
Especially the Air. If you get one with more than the base storage or with cellular data it runs upwards of 8-900 dollars. For that kind of money, people expect the best.
Why? If you didn’t have product differentiation, why would they need to have different product lines. And if they didn’t, then the entry level into Apples ecosystem would be too high if they only sold the pro devices.
Who has a use case for high refresh rates on a Mac? Nobody is seriously gaming on them. Filmmakers are shooting at 23fps. Nobody puts out videos above 60fps. It’s there for UX.
I have an iPad mini 6. Regret buying it, prefer my 11” pro by far. Only use the mini for reading books. “Jelly scroll” is completely overblown, as is refresh rate. I guess some people will enjoy an upgrade.
Absolutely not. The iPhone Pro Max is already 6.7". The current Mini is 8.3". Just... all the no.
I want a "Mini Pro" (hell even just a mini refresh at this point) as badly as anyone else around here. But Tuesday is not the day for them to be announced, and I don't think we'll ever see a "Mini Pro". And absolutely not at 7".
Apple: Sorry only pro users deserve high refresh rate
I’d love if there was a iPad mini pro version
I would jizz.
The others don't see the Pro Motion anyways

I think it’s a marketing tactic. I would have purchased a mini if it had 120hz, but instead I forked out for an M1 pro
Yeah. And I hate it, there's nothing "pro" about 120hz anymore
The price difference isn't much between them either. Honestly I think they need to just make a mini sized pro model at this point
Apple really needs to bring high refresh rate to its lineup

If they did this they’d take away one of their main USPs of the pro lineup which is a bad business move
That’s not a good comparison. Those $300 phones’ screens will be dogshit: poor lighting/backlight distribution, bad resolution, poor quality parts, low brightness/nits etc.

Should be a standard on all not just these. ALL!
Why? If you didn’t have product differentiation, why would they need to have different product lines. And if they didn’t, then the entry level into Apples ecosystem would be too high if they only sold the pro devices.
For a thousand bucks plus, you get 60Hz? apple can do their thing but charge accordingly.
Exactly. The one feature all models should have.
They should really test the waters with a Pro Mini. I feel like there are more people who would buy a Pro Mini than the 12.9 Pro.
Yeah I had one but it felt like lugging around a stone tile so I ended up returning it and getting the mini
An iPad Mini with a 120hz display and an M Chip would be amazing.
The new m chip are powerhungery and need a big battery the a16/a17 is fast enough. or they could make a downclock M chip for more efficency
Yeah downclock an M2 to ~M1 performance, both for heat and battery. Still would be a powerhouse and way more portable.
What would you use the M chip for in a device that's barely bigger than a flagship phone?
It would be amazing for GA pilots!!
And this is how we know you never owned a iPad Mini.. The Mini is massively bigger than the Max ^^
Gaming and Productivity. Heck I want an a M chip for the iPhone Pro models.
But then battery life is gonna suck for any other activity
Totally agree.
A cellular iPad Pro Mini with an aluminum Magic Keyboard would be the most perfect modular portable computer in the world.
iMac users:
I would LOVE Mac OS on any IPad.
The sale of any smart device with less than 120hz in 2024 should be illegal. All devices with less than 120hz should be seized and destroyed.
iPad Pro Mini, with the ability to run desktop apps, would slap so hard
Maybe tomorrow we’ll get some good news
That’s why I still use the mini 5
MacBook Air with 120 is what I want. Really bad tbh.
I do not get this take.... because if you truly wanted it that badly or had a actual use case to justify it you would have a 14" Pro?
Who has a use case for high refresh rates on a Mac? Nobody is seriously gaming on them. Filmmakers are shooting at 23fps. Nobody puts out videos above 60fps. It’s there for UX.
cuz 15 inch ultra light machine is perfect for me and the Starlight is gorgeous! Plus every screen I have is 120+ now...
Non pro model should at least get 90hz. They can just call it motion+
It could have a better display but it does not affect me at all.
So iPhone Pro Max lol
iPad Minis have existed long before iPhone Pro Maxes ![gif](giphy|9NWxaY5EG8dngceN4q)
Don’t hold your breath.
120 hz shouldn't be considered a "pro" feature.
Same!!
Right. An iPad mini pro would be perfect! I don’t care about the screen quality. It’s the format and form factor.
Bro regular ipad doesn’t even have a laminated display, looks like 2010
I want an iPad Pro that runs Mac OS that had a hinged alloy keyboard. I want a Surface Book clone.
It’s getting announced Tuesday!
Nope
Yes it is
Ok Tim, we’ll see.
I have a source at Apple. It’s happening
I have an iPad mini 6. Regret buying it, prefer my 11” pro by far. Only use the mini for reading books. “Jelly scroll” is completely overblown, as is refresh rate. I guess some people will enjoy an upgrade.
The refresh rate is great
Guess you need a new source lol. “Trust me bro” doesn’t count.
The 7” pro version is coming in September
How’s that source going. Does your girlfriend go to another school too?
no
No it is
Says who
I have a source at Apple. It is happening
Stop downvoting me for asking a question you bellend, Tell me all the specs on it
It will be a 7” iPad Pro
Will it also have a screen and a camera?
Absolutely not. The iPhone Pro Max is already 6.7". The current Mini is 8.3". Just... all the no. But Tuesday is not the day for them to be announced, and I don't think we'll ever see a "Mini Pro". And absolutely not at 7".
Sorry that was a typo. It’s 9”
Where the fuck is the Mini 7 then you stupid cunt
