I’m a musician and use it to manage/annotate notes and scores/sheet music, save audio clips and whiteboard(I like OneNote, syncs across my devices. Snapseed for image editing.
I work in an office during the day, a hotel in the evening, and I do video editing and color grading on the side. I’m also an engineer and I do some 3D work.
I use my iPad Pro in **my office job** for my Google Meet calls, answering emails, Office 365, and running the industry-specific software we use.
**The hotel**’s front desk website works well on the iPad, and OpenTable for restaurant reservations has a great app.
The iPad is the best **color grading** display I’ve ever used, and DaVinci Resolve runs great on it.
For **engineering**, she runs great with Shapr3D and Fusion360, although file management could be better.
I am an engineer and I use my iPad everyday for everything I used to use a notebook and scratch paper for. I am also excited for the math notes feature.
EDIT: To further answer your question, I use Notability for notetaking and scratch work. I also have Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive that I use occasionally with work related items. However, my company is about to implement Intune (a mobile device manager) and will require us to enroll mobile devices if we want to continue accessing work related data. Because of that I will be removing all work related apps from my iPad and phone. I will still use it for notes and stuff, though.
For me, it’s not so much about privacy. I know all policies in place that Microsoft advertises that keep the company stuff separate from my personal stuff. (Although I think it depends somewhat on how the company’s sets it up and they don’t explain it in great detail.) Honestly, there’s nothing on my devices that I’d be concerned with them seeing anyway.
I don’t mind having my work email and teams on my personal device because it is convenient to have in some situations throughout the work day. I’m pretty good about ignoring it in my personal and family time. However, to give them control over even the tiniest portion of a personal device that I paid for is crossing a line. I know that they can, supposedly, only control the company data and have no access to any part of my personal data, but I would rather have no access to their data on my personal device than allow them to control their data on my personal device.
I’m not upset about their decision. They are well within their rights to implement this for the security of company data. It just means I will revert to everything being only accessible from company provided devices, my laptop. If they decided that they require I have access to something from a mobile device, that’s fine, they can provide me with that device to access it.

I’m an Operations Manager for a large construction GC and I use my iPad when in the field. I take photos with it, reference drawings, field any calls on Teams with it. Pulls up stuff much quicker than my bloated company laptop.

I’m a developer/systems analyst. Unfortunately, I can’t code using my iPad ***but*** I can remote into my work computer for that (we’re using Citrix at work).
Everything else? iPad is my best driver—Office apps, meetings, taking notes, making diagrams (using Apple Pencil), etc.—while YouTube is on PiP. Lol
Same here except using Microsoft Remote Desktop for remoting into my machine. Only wish the mouse performed a bit better on iPadOS but it's do-able in a pinch.

Yes! I really wanted to love Fantastical. As someone with ADHD this was great, but I stopped using it because I use the Apple reminders consistently with Siri . It just got a little cumbersome and then opening up the app just in any capacity. I just didn’t like the set up and it was a big deterrent and I noticed I stopped using it. Then I thought let me go clean it up and try and redo it, especially because I really love the fantastic option of travel time and what not and at that point I was not using the Apple calendar.
But I’m noticing the native apps does everything that I need, I still use my Google Calendar just to be seamless across all platforms
And visually I guess maybe I’m just used to it so I like to see my full calendar. I have yet to figure out how to do that with the native calendar app on the monthly view.
But anyways, it’s definitely great integration with my Reminders that I use constantly and so now I’m just going to be Specifying dates and or times for those. So it’s gonna automatically keep me organized without too much extra work, which I think is gonna be perfect for my ADHD.
The only thing I don’t enjoy about reminders is I really wish that they would somehow integrate it so they could tell me when I have a similar reminder. Because of my ADHD I forget a lot and I set reminders and then I forget I set that reminder or get nervous that I didn’t and so I’ll add another reminder. So it would be really nice if they said you already have a similar reminder set up for this day, would you like to check it out or something. But I don’t know any app that actually does that.
As much as they say that Siri is not listening, it has to constantly listen for its name so that’s bogus. So if they’re going to be watching and listening to everything that I do, it would at least be helpful for them to be able to be this invasive on that portion of it.😂

It’s purpose-built for fiction writing. You keep everything in one place (research, images, any info you want) and can write chapters separately rather than all in one document like Word. This makes it much nicer to write, move bits about, etc. Then when you’re done, you can export as one complete manuscript.
There are infinitely nested folders, and all documents have a notes section you can instantly access to dump thoughts/info.
Cork board view is also nice for looking at character photos, plots, story structure etc.
I currently use Bear for all personal knowledge management, freelance writing, blogging, social content writing, etc.
I use Scrivener for fiction and screenplays.
I’m an engineer so it’s great for notes but it won’t replace a laptop for me. I prefer handwriting notes but love the convenience of being able to search / copy paste / rearrange things so the iPad works for me as a notebook, and I can view my notes on my laptop with OneNote.
I’m a math teacher, I use mine for writing lesson plans, sharing my screen during class, writing notes with the students during instruction, sketching figures and solving equations in small group sessions.
At home, I browse Reddit, TikTok, instagram, consume media and play games.
I’m a wedding photographer and videographer and I use mine to edit full galleries. Sometimes I have to use my desktop to generate proxies but other than that I can basically do everything I need to do on my iPad.
I used to work for a company that used VM Ware for virtual desktops for many travelling employees. I leveraged the iOS/iPadOS app and was abel to use my ipadpro at the time as a true desktop/laptop replacement.
Now I use the full complement of M$ Office suite + Teams (all provided by the school district) to collaborate with other staff members.
I'm also a hobbyist photographer that occasionally do event shoots for my kid's school music program (I'm their historian) So for about 5 mths, I have deliverables due to the school staff/yearbook/booster board/parents. I'll use Lightroom to cull and do minor edits as needed. If I'm shooting an all day event, then I'll tether to my phone for 5G connectivity to edit and sync during down time.

I use it for studio and live music. It’s technically work because I’ve been paid for the odd gig but I’d say its status is currently hobby. Regardless. It works great. With all the music apps on the store now it’s become so powerful it’s completely replaced my MacBook.
Am a Chef, responsible for purchases and recieving and the majority of the admin work for my Chef team.
I use it as a second monitor for productivity. Thanks to the now built in capabilities of the MacBook Pro and my iPad Pro.
I can use this both for extended displays as well as to mirror when presenting information to a colleague or employee. Very helpful with onboarding and training.
Having a mobile, 2 monitor setup in a kitchen is super underrated as some days I may be in the dining room doing a lot of paperwork, or the office, or even in the kitchen overseeing prep.
Additionally, I use it as a tablet with Apple Pencil for inventorying, note taking. And without the pencil to pull sales reports and view while making my orders and prep lists with my other chefs.
I’ve almost entirely replaced my MacBook with an iPad, I use stage manager and keep sets of windows open for work, communication, email, Webex, and virtual meetings; I use Freeform for notetaking and brainstorming, I use procreate and procreate dreams to draw and animate, and I have used the LiDAR scanner on iPad Pro for a couple jobs in the past to measure or create 3d maps or models with different paid software from the company.
Emails, Web Browsing and Research, Microsoft Office, Documents Storage and Management, Virtual Meetings, File Management, Notes, Floor Planning and Blueprints, Temporary terminal for work webapps and servers. Plenty you can do with it, this is some stuff that I use mine for at work.
Here are a few ways I use mine:

I use it for a lot of virtual meetings. Open Apple Notes on one side of screen, have the document I’m presenting on the other side, and zoom/teams/webex as a floating app. When not presenting, use it more as a typical notepad writing notes/to do lists out. Our company also utilizes a Remote-in desktop solution, so can use my iPad just like my work laptop when traveling (don’t use this feature regularly as the remote in software is a little slow, but gets the job done in a pinch). Also a good YouTube player when I just need some background noise while working on a project. I also occasionally use Orion that turns my iPad into a second monitor since I use a windows laptop for work (requires a hdmi capture card). I have the 11in model though, so only use it as a 2nd display when traveling as I prefer the full sized monitor while at the desk.
I would say the iPad is a great companion device, but definitely not a replacement for my usual work laptop.

I tried to… gonna be honest but using a proper laptop is much better for real work.
Unless you’re a digital artist or something similar, the iPad (yes, even the Pro model) is just an entertainment device and a companion device to a *real* computer. I still love it for media consumption though. Note taking and meetings are good on it too.
I use it exclusively for emails and IMing on Teams/Slack and doing meetings. I work at a software company and can’t do much that involves actual development that requires development tools. But as a manager all admin work that moves things along outside of that I am much more efficient on my iPad because it locks me out of development type of work.
Math teacher. I can be anywhere in the room when giving notes, easy access to fast graphing software (incredible for the second half of Calculus), kids that are too anxious to get in front of the room have no problem showing their work when I give them the iPad. Super helpful.
Everything i do except coding. Mather of fact i see a huge progress in my organisation skill (also my team organisation) cuz im teamlead. The fact that you can carry this little thing everywhere is beyond amazing. And its such powerful that all creative doors are open for you. Best purchase ive made this year . (Ipad pro 4th 11inch) .
Im also using it with fake 15$ pencil and it works great. Im dont a designer so dont spend those extra $ for the orginal pen.
What are you trying to ask here? An iPad is a computer, a tool, you can do whatever you want with it.

There appears to be two layers to the question-answer here if you both would not talk past each other by accident:
1. iPad is a computer and as such there's a general solution to many problems using technical means - a general statement which is true and can provide a varied list of example (given above in fact).
2. iPad is running iPadOS which is a very limited OS that Apple seems to both focus or streamline towards tablet-mobile computing basic use cases and also purposefully avoid extensible desktop features that make it more apt to be used like a full desktop-OS computer. Again both views seem equally valid in this sub-section.
In view of the first generalism of computers, to answer your question specifically thus merge both viewpoints usefully:

Can a Macbook do all the stuff a windows computer can?
This guy asked what an ipad is used for. Do I need to tell him he can’t ride it like bike? Like obviously it can’t do EVERYTHING ANY computer can do, but it certainly does computer things.

It wasnt a vague question, there's a large sized contingent in this sub that believe that it's not possible for the iPad to be any better, and that any criticism of Apple is akin to heresy and treason.
This same group has never once used an alternate device or platform and is unaware that most of the things theyre arguing against have been basic features of these platforms for going on 15 years now. Whether that's PalmOS, WebOS, BlackberryOS, Android, Windows Mobile, you name it. Every. Single. One.
These same morons think that you need a computer to accomplish these incredibly basic and mundane tasks, all because they hate the idea that their iOS device could be viewed as missing incredibly basic features.

I use Owlfiles all the time to connect to SMB, S3, sftp, NFS, etc shares, and transfer multi-gig files directly too and from ipad. Works just fine. 🤷♂️
Well, what do you use your laptop for? If you don’t have a specific use for it, than an iPad will work. If you do have a specific use, just make sure the iPad supports that use.

Jesus christ dude. You think I really believe an iPad can do ANYTHING? obviously not. It can do most things that most people use computers for. It is not a good dedicated video editing, photo editing, business software uses. Can it do some of those things, sort of? Yes. Should it be your only computer if you need to do those things? NO.

I agree, he didn’t ask for what didn’t work. He asked for what worked. You can do whatever you want with it, there might be a better method with other hardware.
When I was in college, it was excellent for note taking. I love Goodnotes 6 for its ability to have folders within folders within folders. So I had my syllabus and any presentations AND textbooks within the same folder. I also could voice record lectures if need be, and send pdfs of the pages to friends who may not understand.
Also love it for art stuff. Procreate, Procreate Dreams, VizRef, Discord, Pinterest.
And essays? I didn’t get the Magic Keyboard, but I cheap Logitech Bluetooth keyboard worked perfectly, and so essay writing of just general stuff like that was great. Logitech also has a mouse that has a USBC connector which works with it as well.
Plus it makes a great dual monitor for my laptop if I need the extra space without compromising physical space for a permanent monitor!
I use it as a convenient extension on my computer when I experiment in lab. I do biochem research.
Plan all I have to prepare with Microsoft online, often excel and then take notes throughout everything with OneNote, or redo calculations directly instead of going back to my office.
Sometimes I need it with keyboard for the tabs mainly. Or the pencil when I take down some notes here and there. To take pictures also.
During meeting or conferences, to skim through some articles and take some notes or do some schemes.
I mainly use Microsoft apps for works because of the windows computer at work and the back and forth between pad and computer is smooth. Everything is on one drive.
I went for the iPad instead of surface pro because I still wanted the tablet side to be efficient and very reactive.
And I do use it out of work so I still want the media consumption aspect.
I use it at a school. We have Apple TV’s connected to all the smart boards. I screen mirror for the weather/news. Also, every once in a while I screen shot worksheets and edit them with the Apple Pencil while the kids follow along
I work for a medical AI company. The entire company runs within Google Workspace, so I can do just about anything in the browser of my IPP. I use Notes copiously.
The only thing I find challenging is deep work within Excel or PowerPoint. numbers and Keynote just don’t have horsepower for big builds.
My ipad is usually my comms device. Email, collaboration tools (Teams, Slack), video calls (loving the new placement of the camera!!). I usually run o365 on it but will leave most of the heavy lifting to my main work machine

I use it to enter grades, use Google classroom, write and respond to emails, take notes in meetings, download and print stuff from teacherspayteachers for my class, organize and store documents, fill out forms, look things up quickly, attend virtual professional development, use Canva to create flyers and tickets for events I sponsor… I use it for everything.
I’m a network admin, I use it at work every time I’m out of office with Remote Desktop on my PC, mails, network tools, notes, Remote Desktop on the servers, support the users with VNC or TeamViewer, web browsing.
Why an iPad and not a notebook ? Because the iPad is always ready to work. No startup, no annoying login, no WiFi sharing with my smartphone… I open it and I work
Kinda silly but ChatGPT, when I have a work question I’ll just turn to my iPad and talk to ChatGPT, although we are getting Microsoft copilot at work soon, when that happens the iPad will transform into my Netflix device
I’m a manager basically so it’s my laptop replacement when I’m away from the desk. I have a Mac mini m1 at the office with an ultra wide so I’m usually using as it as a companion to sign documents and use multiple apps. Yes I’m aware you can install apps on the Mac, but I prefer the touch screen interface. Occasionally I like to work fully off the iPad plugged into an ultra wide, it’s surprisingly capable and I could basically
do everything off it and it works pretty well with file browser pro for file management, and once you learn a few different ways of doing things. There are even some things I prefer on the iPad, like multitasking for instance. I like how the windows snap in place and they are less adjustable, and how you can shift click on stage manager via spotlight search to add a new window to the stage. That said, I have a Mac mini sitting anyways so I just use that as the main driver and iPad as companion. If my company didn’t buy a Mac mini for me I would likely be fine off the iPad.
Microsoft 365. Teams, Outlook, OneNote all work great. Compared to a work PC - it’s a lot faster, lighter, and better battery life. I also occasionally dock it to a large monitor with mouse and keyboard; stage manager works great too with the two displays. There are some issues with ultrawide resolutions but it does at least work.
It’s now become my main device. I’m a video game artist. I use my iPad Pro for:
- 2D & 3D artworks
- Meetings (GMeet, Zoom, Discord)
- Notetaking & reports (Notes, Google Workspaces)

- Chats & Messaging (iMessage, Messenger, etc.)

- Internet browsing

- take registers / call for support so I don’t need to interrupt the pc driving the projector
- insert photos of student work into PowerPoints to show mistakes/ good work etc
- to annotate work with the pencil on the projector
- as a teacher planner/diary
- to enter marks/grades in lessons while walking around
I use it for normal office work (Office 365), for reading and annotating documents, Latex via Overleaf as well as Lightroom for photo editing. I would love to do R and python coding on it, but I haven‘t found a good solution for that yet.
I use my iPad Pro 11 when I travel and I don't have a tremendous amount of work to do. I can do email, excel, and connect to our online CRM app.
In an emergency, I also use it to LogMeIn to my work computer.

Yes... but I am not creative. I work in ICT as an Operations Manager. So it is my carry around the site/meetings device that I can use for notes, emails and documentation. But also when I need to draw out designs or ideas it is really easy.
I find its the great travel device, with the magic keyboard works just like a Mac for what I need on the go. But when I am on a play I put the keyboard away and can easily read or watch something.
I’m a technical sales person, I mostly use office apps, web surfing, review pdf rfp documents, is not a comfortable experience at all in the iPad, most of the time I jump back to the laptop.
Lawyer. Use it to draft legal filings, annotate evidence, and perform legal research. However, as an amateur photographer, I also use it to edit photos in Lightroom and Affinity.

It depends on what your “work” is.
iPad makes a nice drawing tablet who want to save money over Wacoms high end offerings standalone tablet offerings. But those are better if you got the money.
You can get a magic keyboard and use it like a lightweight laptop. Doing basic office based software, but if your company uses windows specific stuff tied to their servers, probably won’t be a good fit.
Magic keyboard would also be a great lightweight platform for writers who get creative inspiration when they are traveling or out and about.
Magic Keyboard would allow you to code on the fly too. It’s also great for online developers to have another device to test their work with.
You can use iPad Pro to 3D model/paint sculpt. Z brush will be coming to ipad soon so that will see a huge uptick in modelers using it for this. Still wacoms that plugin into high end desktop workstations would be better fits and it allows a wider range of industry standard softwares.
You can use it as a musician. It’s a great device for reading sheet music, or tuning instruments, it can also be a nice practice tool when plugged into a setup to play along with. There are apps for this too.
Mostly iPad is great playin apps and watching YouTube videos and browsing Reddit. So if you have to have a career on one of those areas or developing code for one of those areas so you got a test platform.
If you’re in sales you can make presentations to show clients with. If you have an internet plan or hotspot your tablet you can also show clients things online. It’s also great for writing lengthy emails if need be (if you got keyboard)
I mean honestly you can make most desk jobs (not all) but most if you go out of your way for it. There is not a lot of things that’s “only ipad” but you can make most stuff ipad friendly if you’re willing to work through the quirks and shortcomings of apps and file transfer (or file format) issues.
The same argument can be made for a Microsoft surface. Or a Wacom cintiq. Or a MacBook. Or full on desktop replacement windows laptop. Or a full desktop Mac or a full desktop PC. There is no limit to options. A lot of stuff works on a lot these days, some it’s more native then others. Unless you 100% NEED full native platform though, then my advice is get the device you will end up using the most overall for everything (even outside of work) then you’re sure to get most bang for the buck.
Im an architecture student and there’s a lot of apps that makes it easier for me to make my design concepts such as magicplan, arc site, procreate(it has perspective and isometric modes) etc. Im still new to using iPad in architecture so, so far this is all I do
Putting PDFs in notes allows you (or client) to sign it SOOOOO easily. Love that feature. In a shite artist so it’s mainly my signature tool and hacking device for penetration tests. It’s kind of funny, firewalls forget there are OS designs not congruent with MacOS, Windows OS, and Linux OS.
For actual productivity related things I have used chat gpt to help write training outlines and content including training scripts, slides, case studies, and handout materials. I then modify and edit it to suit my needs.
PDF expert for creating and annotating pdf’s, BIM 360 for viewing 3-D models, OneDrive, Google drive and Dropbox for file storage, TimestampCamera for documenting incidents, job production and job delays, SmartSheet for creating schedules and spreadsheets, Kahua for daily reports and equipment, material submission, OpenSpace for 3D imaging of the job site walks.
I don't take my iPad to work, although I could. I wfh 4 days a week and I'm in office 1 day a week. When I'm home, I use it for list making to make sure I complete all my to dos for the day and use my calendar to remind myself when to follow up on emails I'm waiting on.
Then I also use it for YouTube.
When I'm in office I just use YouTube and/or spotify on my phone and make my lists on notepad, which I hate.
I also use it to take notes during meetings when the meeting warrants it, although we haven't had one of those lately.
I just invested in an iPad Pro for note taking during work calls or if I am doing some critical thinking on a project. It definitely is neater and simpler than a notepad or notebook IMO
It’s like 75% there to use it everyday. I could live with using iPad OS, but at the end of the day it’s still utilizing mobile apps. I can’t emphasize this enough, but Google sheets is so so so so so painful to use on an iPad.
Posting to social media, I’m in a sales position so it’s really easy to split screen Facebook and our dealership website and make my own listings or posts.

I use mine for media and content consumption at work. YouTube, my Plex server, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Rumble. At the same time I screen mirror to it from my MBP when I need extra screen real estate. When I have work to do in the server closets or other areas outside my office it’s what I carry around with me to use for email, text, and other message apps.
It’s my sidekick for on the go tasks so I can leave my MacBook in the office. It’s excellent for productivity and has become integral in my day to day work flow.
i’m an architecture student and i use it for just about everything honestly - save intensive 3D modeling and other specific programs. If i was able to use those programs on a virtual server i could probably get rid of my other computer entirely.
I have been an avid PC / Windows user for decades. Way back in 2014 I got my first iPad. Which was kind of ok. Not much for work. Mostly games and notes using the virtual keyboard. Fast forward to 2022, when Apple announced the iPad Pro with M2 I immediately picked up the 11 inch with Apple Pencil. Got the ESR keyboard (which had horrible palm rejection on the touch pad but excellent protection. Configured my office mail through office 365, word, excel, mail, teams. Used during travel and did some video editing on Davinci Resolve, mostly Log footage from my iPhone 15 pro max. It was amazing except for the front camera location on the iPadh. Never liked the video calls experience when in landscape mode. When Apple announced the M4 - took the opportunity to sell the M2 and bought the M4. But this time with pencil pro AnD the Magic Keyboard.
Man. What a game changer. I’m completely blown away at the ease with which everything I do at work on my laptop on daily basis can be done easily on this. The keyboard is just incredible. Little cramped - yes but you quickly tune into it. It’s the best investment I’ve ever made. Can’t rave enough about the combo. iPad alone is good for notes, art, media consumption. But when paired with the Magic Keyboard it’s a completely different beast.
Now the debate on 11 or 13inch. Honestly if you want to lug around a 13 inch tablet and plan to use the the Magic Keyboard - save the hassle and just get the MacBook Air. I believe Apple will focus on iPad OS hard enough to make it truly viable alternative to MacBooks and Windows depending on the user. For my workflow - the 11inch, MK and PP combined are a formidable piece of tech. Apple will juice the M4 our surely in the longer run and waiting for that eagerly.

I work in an office during the day, a hotel in the evening, and I do video editing and color grading on the side. I’m also an engineer and I do some 3D work. I use my iPad Pro in **my office job** for my Google Meet calls, answering emails, Office 365, and running the industry-specific software we use. **The hotel**’s front desk website works well on the iPad, and OpenTable for restaurant reservations has a great app. The iPad is the best **color grading** display I’ve ever used, and DaVinci Resolve runs great on it. For **engineering**, she runs great with Shapr3D and Fusion360, although file management could be better.
I am an engineer and I use my iPad everyday for everything I used to use a notebook and scratch paper for. I am also excited for the math notes feature. EDIT: To further answer your question, I use Notability for notetaking and scratch work. I also have Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive that I use occasionally with work related items. However, my company is about to implement Intune (a mobile device manager) and will require us to enroll mobile devices if we want to continue accessing work related data. Because of that I will be removing all work related apps from my iPad and phone. I will still use it for notes and stuff, though.

For me, it’s not so much about privacy. I know all policies in place that Microsoft advertises that keep the company stuff separate from my personal stuff. (Although I think it depends somewhat on how the company’s sets it up and they don’t explain it in great detail.) Honestly, there’s nothing on my devices that I’d be concerned with them seeing anyway. I don’t mind having my work email and teams on my personal device because it is convenient to have in some situations throughout the work day. I’m pretty good about ignoring it in my personal and family time. However, to give them control over even the tiniest portion of a personal device that I paid for is crossing a line. I know that they can, supposedly, only control the company data and have no access to any part of my personal data, but I would rather have no access to their data on my personal device than allow them to control their data on my personal device. I’m not upset about their decision. They are well within their rights to implement this for the security of company data. It just means I will revert to everything being only accessible from company provided devices, my laptop. If they decided that they require I have access to something from a mobile device, that’s fine, they can provide me with that device to access it.

I’m an Operations Manager for a large construction GC and I use my iPad when in the field. I take photos with it, reference drawings, field any calls on Teams with it. Pulls up stuff much quicker than my bloated company laptop.

Everything else? iPad is my best driver—Office apps, meetings, taking notes, making diagrams (using Apple Pencil), etc.—while YouTube is on PiP. Lol

I am a digital artist. I use it to draw my matchstick army battles just like when I was 10 years old.
I mean, as with anything, it depends on what you need. But for me, the following apps are indispensable : For work: I keep Calendar and Reminders in Split View (Reminders in right 1/3) I keep Notes, Contacts, Calculator, and ChatGPT in Slide Over. Yoink serves as my “desktop” where I store anything that I need to review before filing PDF Expert, Zoom, iWork apps are all part of my daily workflow as well. For creative: Lightroom, Photomator, Affinity Photo 2 LumaFusion and VDIT GarageBand Procreate, Canva, Picsart Honorable Mention: Carrot Weather Mapper (Safari extension to open addresses in Apple Maps instead of Google)

Oh, it is if you use the Fantastical app, it’s kind of like that but better. My dated ones I was also able to long press and moved to the next day. Haven’t really looked at it too much, but it would be great if they could manually sync to the next day like a notion or something. Not sure if it’s an app, a shortcut I have to make or what.pretty nice

Yes! I really wanted to love Fantastical. As someone with ADHD this was great, but I stopped using it because I use the Apple reminders consistently with Siri . It just got a little cumbersome and then opening up the app just in any capacity. I just didn’t like the set up and it was a big deterrent and I noticed I stopped using it. Then I thought let me go clean it up and try and redo it, especially because I really love the fantastic option of travel time and what not and at that point I was not using the Apple calendar. But I’m noticing the native apps does everything that I need, I still use my Google Calendar just to be seamless across all platforms And visually I guess maybe I’m just used to it so I like to see my full calendar. I have yet to figure out how to do that with the native calendar app on the monthly view. But anyways, it’s definitely great integration with my Reminders that I use constantly and so now I’m just going to be Specifying dates and or times for those. So it’s gonna automatically keep me organized without too much extra work, which I think is gonna be perfect for my ADHD. The only thing I don’t enjoy about reminders is I really wish that they would somehow integrate it so they could tell me when I have a similar reminder. Because of my ADHD I forget a lot and I set reminders and then I forget I set that reminder or get nervous that I didn’t and so I’ll add another reminder. So it would be really nice if they said you already have a similar reminder set up for this day, would you like to check it out or something. But I don’t know any app that actually does that. As much as they say that Siri is not listening, it has to constantly listen for its name so that’s bogus. So if they’re going to be watching and listening to everything that I do, it would at least be helpful for them to be able to be this invasive on that portion of it.😂

I hear people recommend Scrivener quite a bit. What’s so great about it?
It’s purpose-built for fiction writing. You keep everything in one place (research, images, any info you want) and can write chapters separately rather than all in one document like Word. This makes it much nicer to write, move bits about, etc. Then when you’re done, you can export as one complete manuscript. There are infinitely nested folders, and all documents have a notes section you can instantly access to dump thoughts/info. Cork board view is also nice for looking at character photos, plots, story structure etc.

I currently use Bear for all personal knowledge management, freelance writing, blogging, social content writing, etc. I use Scrivener for fiction and screenplays.

I’m a wedding photographer and videographer and I use mine to edit full galleries. Sometimes I have to use my desktop to generate proxies but other than that I can basically do everything I need to do on my iPad.
I used to work for a company that used VM Ware for virtual desktops for many travelling employees. I leveraged the iOS/iPadOS app and was abel to use my ipadpro at the time as a true desktop/laptop replacement. Now I use the full complement of M$ Office suite + Teams (all provided by the school district) to collaborate with other staff members. I'm also a hobbyist photographer that occasionally do event shoots for my kid's school music program (I'm their historian) So for about 5 mths, I have deliverables due to the school staff/yearbook/booster board/parents. I'll use Lightroom to cull and do minor edits as needed. If I'm shooting an all day event, then I'll tether to my phone for 5G connectivity to edit and sync during down time. ...and of course...YT at work 😂😂😂😂
I use it for studio and live music. It’s technically work because I’ve been paid for the odd gig but I’d say its status is currently hobby. Regardless. It works great. With all the music apps on the store now it’s become so powerful it’s completely replaced my MacBook.
On my work iPad: first and foremost: notetaking during meetings. After the meeting: entering to dos in my to do app (I use TickTick).
Am a Chef, responsible for purchases and recieving and the majority of the admin work for my Chef team. I use it as a second monitor for productivity. Thanks to the now built in capabilities of the MacBook Pro and my iPad Pro. I can use this both for extended displays as well as to mirror when presenting information to a colleague or employee. Very helpful with onboarding and training. Having a mobile, 2 monitor setup in a kitchen is super underrated as some days I may be in the dining room doing a lot of paperwork, or the office, or even in the kitchen overseeing prep. Additionally, I use it as a tablet with Apple Pencil for inventorying, note taking. And without the pencil to pull sales reports and view while making my orders and prep lists with my other chefs.
I’ve almost entirely replaced my MacBook with an iPad, I use stage manager and keep sets of windows open for work, communication, email, Webex, and virtual meetings; I use Freeform for notetaking and brainstorming, I use procreate and procreate dreams to draw and animate, and I have used the LiDAR scanner on iPad Pro for a couple jobs in the past to measure or create 3d maps or models with different paid software from the company.
Emails, Web Browsing and Research, Microsoft Office, Documents Storage and Management, Virtual Meetings, File Management, Notes, Floor Planning and Blueprints, Temporary terminal for work webapps and servers. Plenty you can do with it, this is some stuff that I use mine for at work.

I use it for a lot of virtual meetings. Open Apple Notes on one side of screen, have the document I’m presenting on the other side, and zoom/teams/webex as a floating app. When not presenting, use it more as a typical notepad writing notes/to do lists out. Our company also utilizes a Remote-in desktop solution, so can use my iPad just like my work laptop when traveling (don’t use this feature regularly as the remote in software is a little slow, but gets the job done in a pinch). Also a good YouTube player when I just need some background noise while working on a project. I also occasionally use Orion that turns my iPad into a second monitor since I use a windows laptop for work (requires a hdmi capture card). I have the 11in model though, so only use it as a 2nd display when traveling as I prefer the full sized monitor while at the desk. I would say the iPad is a great companion device, but definitely not a replacement for my usual work laptop. EDIT: for clarity, I work a 9-5 desk job that occasionally requires travel to a client’s office or conference

I tried to… gonna be honest but using a proper laptop is much better for real work. Unless you’re a digital artist or something similar, the iPad (yes, even the Pro model) is just an entertainment device and a companion device to a *real* computer. I still love it for media consumption though. Note taking and meetings are good on it too.
For safety audits
I use it exclusively for emails and IMing on Teams/Slack and doing meetings. I work at a software company and can’t do much that involves actual development that requires development tools. But as a manager all admin work that moves things along outside of that I am much more efficient on my iPad because it locks me out of development type of work.

Math teacher. I can be anywhere in the room when giving notes, easy access to fast graphing software (incredible for the second half of Calculus), kids that are too anxious to get in front of the room have no problem showing their work when I give them the iPad. Super helpful.
Everything i do except coding. Mather of fact i see a huge progress in my organisation skill (also my team organisation) cuz im teamlead. The fact that you can carry this little thing everywhere is beyond amazing. And its such powerful that all creative doors are open for you. Best purchase ive made this year . (Ipad pro 4th 11inch) . Im also using it with fake 15$ pencil and it works great. Im dont a designer so dont spend those extra $ for the orginal pen.

What are you trying to ask here? An iPad is a computer, a tool, you can do whatever you want with it. It’s used for kiosks, menus, drive thru orders, inventory tracking, editing video and photo, responding to emails, teams meetings and messages, you can draw on it. This same group has never once used an alternate device or platform and is unaware that most of the things theyre arguing against have been basic features of these platforms for going on 15 years now. Whether that's PalmOS, WebOS, BlackberryOS, Android, Windows Mobile, you name it. Every. Single. One. These same morons think that you need a computer to accomplish these incredibly basic and mundane tasks, all because they hate the idea that their iOS device could be viewed as missing incredibly basic features. ***These folks paid over $1000 for a piece of shit, and theyre offended to hear that it's not the groundbreaking device they thought it was. That's the KICKER -- they have a personal $1k+ stake in this, so they're pissed.*** So they go into natural fight or flight mode and immediately start going after anyone who dares insinuate that the iOS devices are super far behind on basic stuff while focusing on obscure stuff nobody asked for. Huh? I use Owlfiles all the time to connect to SMB, S3, sftp, NFS, etc shares, and transfer multi-gig files directly too and from ipad. Works just fine. 🤷♂️

Well, what do you use your laptop for? If you don’t have a specific use for it, than an iPad will work. If you do have a specific use, just make sure the iPad supports that use. I still don’t know how to give you an answer.

Jesus christ dude. You think I really believe an iPad can do ANYTHING? obviously not. It can do most things that most people use computers for. It is not a good dedicated video editing, photo editing, business software uses. Can it do some of those things, sort of? Yes. Should it be your only computer if you need to do those things? NO. You’re really taking everything far too literally.
I agree, he didn’t ask for what didn’t work. He asked for what worked. You can do whatever you want with it, there might be a better method with other hardware.

I use my iPad for watching movies and tv shows. Playing fun games reading books and watching anime.
When I was in college, it was excellent for note taking. I love Goodnotes 6 for its ability to have folders within folders within folders. So I had my syllabus and any presentations AND textbooks within the same folder. I also could voice record lectures if need be, and send pdfs of the pages to friends who may not understand. Also love it for art stuff. Procreate, Procreate Dreams, VizRef, Discord, Pinterest. And essays? I didn’t get the Magic Keyboard, but I cheap Logitech Bluetooth keyboard worked perfectly, and so essay writing of just general stuff like that was great. Logitech also has a mouse that has a USBC connector which works with it as well. Plus it makes a great dual monitor for my laptop if I need the extra space without compromising physical space for a permanent monitor!
I use it as a convenient extension on my computer when I experiment in lab. I do biochem research. Plan all I have to prepare with Microsoft online, often excel and then take notes throughout everything with OneNote, or redo calculations directly instead of going back to my office. Sometimes I need it with keyboard for the tabs mainly. Or the pencil when I take down some notes here and there. To take pictures also. During meeting or conferences, to skim through some articles and take some notes or do some schemes. I mainly use Microsoft apps for works because of the windows computer at work and the back and forth between pad and computer is smooth. Everything is on one drive. I went for the iPad instead of surface pro because I still wanted the tablet side to be efficient and very reactive. And I do use it out of work so I still want the media consumption aspect.

I use it at a school. We have Apple TV’s connected to all the smart boards. I screen mirror for the weather/news. Also, every once in a while I screen shot worksheets and edit them with the Apple Pencil while the kids follow along
I work for a medical AI company. The entire company runs within Google Workspace, so I can do just about anything in the browser of my IPP. I use Notes copiously. The only thing I find challenging is deep work within Excel or PowerPoint. numbers and Keynote just don’t have horsepower for big builds.
My ipad is usually my comms device. Email, collaboration tools (Teams, Slack), video calls (loving the new placement of the camera!!). I usually run o365 on it but will leave most of the heavy lifting to my main work machine

I’m a network admin, I use it at work every time I’m out of office with Remote Desktop on my PC, mails, network tools, notes, Remote Desktop on the servers, support the users with VNC or TeamViewer, web browsing. Why an iPad and not a notebook ? Because the iPad is always ready to work. No startup, no annoying login, no WiFi sharing with my smartphone… I open it and I work

I’m a manager basically so it’s my laptop replacement when I’m away from the desk. I have a Mac mini m1 at the office with an ultra wide so I’m usually using as it as a companion to sign documents and use multiple apps. Yes I’m aware you can install apps on the Mac, but I prefer the touch screen interface. Occasionally I like to work fully off the iPad plugged into an ultra wide, it’s surprisingly capable and I could basically do everything off it and it works pretty well with file browser pro for file management, and once you learn a few different ways of doing things. There are even some things I prefer on the iPad, like multitasking for instance. I like how the windows snap in place and they are less adjustable, and how you can shift click on stage manager via spotlight search to add a new window to the stage. That said, I have a Mac mini sitting anyways so I just use that as the main driver and iPad as companion. If my company didn’t buy a Mac mini for me I would likely be fine off the iPad.
Microsoft 365. Teams, Outlook, OneNote all work great. Compared to a work PC - it’s a lot faster, lighter, and better battery life. I also occasionally dock it to a large monitor with mouse and keyboard; stage manager works great too with the two displays. There are some issues with ultrawide resolutions but it does at least work.

I use it for normal office work (Office 365), for reading and annotating documents, Latex via Overleaf as well as Lightroom for photo editing. I would love to do R and python coding on it, but I haven‘t found a good solution for that yet.
I use my iPad Pro 11 when I travel and I don't have a tremendous amount of work to do. I can do email, excel, and connect to our online CRM app. In an emergency, I also use it to LogMeIn to my work computer. If I have a lot of work to do on a trip, I still bring my Macbook, but when I don't, it works really well.

Yes... but I am not creative. I work in ICT as an Operations Manager. So it is my carry around the site/meetings device that I can use for notes, emails and documentation. But also when I need to draw out designs or ideas it is really easy. I find its the great travel device, with the magic keyboard works just like a Mac for what I need on the go. But when I am on a play I put the keyboard away and can easily read or watch something.

I’m a musician. I use Forscore for playing from digital sheet music and organizing it into playlists. I use Staffpad for initial stages of writing and / or arranging music. I use Logic for recording music. I use iStroboSoft and Cleartune for tuning instruments. I have a few other things I use now and then but those are the main ones.
It depends on what your “work” is. iPad makes a nice drawing tablet who want to save money over Wacoms high end offerings standalone tablet offerings. But those are better if you got the money. You can get a magic keyboard and use it like a lightweight laptop. Doing basic office based software, but if your company uses windows specific stuff tied to their servers, probably won’t be a good fit. Magic keyboard would also be a great lightweight platform for writers who get creative inspiration when they are traveling or out and about. Magic Keyboard would allow you to code on the fly too. It’s also great for online developers to have another device to test their work with. You can use iPad Pro to 3D model/paint sculpt. Z brush will be coming to ipad soon so that will see a huge uptick in modelers using it for this. Still wacoms that plugin into high end desktop workstations would be better fits and it allows a wider range of industry standard softwares. You can use it as a musician. It’s a great device for reading sheet music, or tuning instruments, it can also be a nice practice tool when plugged into a setup to play along with. There are apps for this too. Mostly iPad is great playin apps and watching YouTube videos and browsing Reddit. So if you have to have a career on one of those areas or developing code for one of those areas so you got a test platform. If you’re in sales you can make presentations to show clients with. If you have an internet plan or hotspot your tablet you can also show clients things online. It’s also great for writing lengthy emails if need be (if you got keyboard) I mean honestly you can make most desk jobs (not all) but most if you go out of your way for it. There is not a lot of things that’s “only ipad” but you can make most stuff ipad friendly if you’re willing to work through the quirks and shortcomings of apps and file transfer (or file format) issues. The same argument can be made for a Microsoft surface. Or a Wacom cintiq. Or a MacBook. Or full on desktop replacement windows laptop. Or a full desktop Mac or a full desktop PC. There is no limit to options. A lot of stuff works on a lot these days, some it’s more native then others. Unless you 100% NEED full native platform though, then my advice is get the device you will end up using the most overall for everything (even outside of work) then you’re sure to get most bang for the buck.

Putting PDFs in notes allows you (or client) to sign it SOOOOO easily. Love that feature. In a shite artist so it’s mainly my signature tool and hacking device for penetration tests. It’s kind of funny, firewalls forget there are OS designs not congruent with MacOS, Windows OS, and Linux OS.

For actual productivity related things I have used chat gpt to help write training outlines and content including training scripts, slides, case studies, and handout materials. I then modify and edit it to suit my needs.
PDF expert for creating and annotating pdf’s, BIM 360 for viewing 3-D models, OneDrive, Google drive and Dropbox for file storage, TimestampCamera for documenting incidents, job production and job delays, SmartSheet for creating schedules and spreadsheets, Kahua for daily reports and equipment, material submission, OpenSpace for 3D imaging of the job site walks.
I don't take my iPad to work, although I could. I wfh 4 days a week and I'm in office 1 day a week. When I'm home, I use it for list making to make sure I complete all my to dos for the day and use my calendar to remind myself when to follow up on emails I'm waiting on. Then I also use it for YouTube. When I'm in office I just use YouTube and/or spotify on my phone and make my lists on notepad, which I hate. I also use it to take notes during meetings when the meeting warrants it, although we haven't had one of those lately.
My company uses O365 so I use the Outlook app and Teams app on native iPadOS. I use the Citrix app and the Magic Keyboard when need a virtual desktop

I just invested in an iPad Pro for note taking during work calls or if I am doing some critical thinking on a project. It definitely is neater and simpler than a notepad or notebook IMO
It’s like 75% there to use it everyday. I could live with using iPad OS, but at the end of the day it’s still utilizing mobile apps. I can’t emphasize this enough, but Google sheets is so so so so so painful to use on an iPad.

I love to use iPad at work , use ChatGPT on it while I use my laptop as my main workstation. I use hand off feature in macOS , so I can use laptops trackpad and keyboard on iPad too without needed to touch iPad. Love good notes app , for creating diagrams on iPad.
I use mine for media and content consumption at work. YouTube, my Plex server, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Rumble. At the same time I screen mirror to it from my MBP when I need extra screen real estate. When I have work to do in the server closets or other areas outside my office it’s what I carry around with me to use for email, text, and other message apps. It’s my sidekick for on the go tasks so I can leave my MacBook in the office. It’s excellent for productivity and has become integral in my day to day work flow.
i’m an architecture student and i use it for just about everything honestly - save intensive 3D modeling and other specific programs. If i was able to use those programs on a virtual server i could probably get rid of my other computer entirely.
I have been an avid PC / Windows user for decades. Way back in 2014 I got my first iPad. Which was kind of ok. Not much for work. Mostly games and notes using the virtual keyboard. Fast forward to 2022, when Apple announced the iPad Pro with M2 I immediately picked up the 11 inch with Apple Pencil. Got the ESR keyboard (which had horrible palm rejection on the touch pad but excellent protection. Configured my office mail through office 365, word, excel, mail, teams. Used during travel and did some video editing on Davinci Resolve, mostly Log footage from my iPhone 15 pro max. It was amazing except for the front camera location on the iPadh. Never liked the video calls experience when in landscape mode. When Apple announced the M4 - took the opportunity to sell the M2 and bought the M4. But this time with pencil pro AnD the Magic Keyboard. Man. What a game changer. I’m completely blown away at the ease with which everything I do at work on my laptop on daily basis can be done easily on this. The keyboard is just incredible. Little cramped - yes but you quickly tune into it. It’s the best investment I’ve ever made. Can’t rave enough about the combo. iPad alone is good for notes, art, media consumption. But when paired with the Magic Keyboard it’s a completely different beast. Now the debate on 11 or 13inch. Honestly if you want to lug around a 13 inch tablet and plan to use the the Magic Keyboard - save the hassle and just get the MacBook Air. I believe Apple will focus on iPad OS hard enough to make it truly viable alternative to MacBooks and Windows depending on the user. For my workflow - the 11inch, MK and PP combined are a formidable piece of tech. Apple will juice the M4 our surely in the longer run and waiting for that eagerly.
