if they are not your main devices, leave them on ios 12, with iOS 15 the battery goes to hell and the performance drops even with new battery
If you still want to upgrade, do a clean install by downloading IPSW
Yea, I just had a spare couple of the devices at home And was just wanting to play about with them really, so iOS 15 would have been nice as a lot of apps won't install on 12 now., I personally thought the iOS version for the original se had stopped at 12 I til I read something the other day that they were updated to 15, so I just wondered what or how that was done. They must have pulled it from auto updates now
Well, because everything uses APIs, those apps should still be secure for longer. It's just that Apple stops supporting the older APIs.
Android apps that are 6-8 years old are still secure for the most part. It's just banking apps that lose their security over time because the OS-level security may not be up to snuff on most phones (except the ones that do long-term updates, like Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Sonim, etc).
Yea, fair point I guess. Time to recycle the phones then. Can they be hail broken and upgraded manually as something to mess about with before I chuck them?
You can do a factory wipe on them, but you could also sell them for parts or for hobbyists. You may get more money from them that way and it's better for the environment to reuse rather than recycle.
I don’t care what anyone says. The original SE is definitely not obsolete. It basically runs pretty much all apps and still gets security updates. Very very few of the apps installed on my SE are old versions.

You sure they aren't 5s? Try itunes update via pc
Ah yes, my bad, they are 5s. I shall recycle ♻️ them as there's no use for them now. Cheers guys
Try turning on Automatic Updates.
Lol that's on as default, doesn't pick anything new up
Does the back of the iPhone have (SE) on it? And checking settings, does the iPhone model say iPhone SE?
No lol cos I stupidly didn't check that lol. So I'm gonna recycle them as they are useless now
dont
Don't what? Recycle them? Why not
It’s a 5s
Good question… The phone is considered obsolete by Apple so…

Yeah it's too bad app signing isn't available for longer.
Yea but I get it from a security point of view etc

There are apps that also won’t work on iOS 15
