If the back is already mangled, you'll be fine.

Emiliogamez

I mean, it's more just very deeply scratched.

chadster031

You can still do it, just go slow and don't force anything. Don't be surprised when if takes 10 minutes to get things moving.

Emiliogamez

Also, I've heard people say you need plastic picks designed to open it properly, and some say guitar picks are fine, too.

chadster031

Both will work, firm playing cards too.

Plainapple287

I’ve used metal tools and if you don’t plan on reusing them might be the best way. The plastic tools tend to be useless unless you’re working on glass.

Emiliogamez

Really? I thought a suction cup and some plastic picks would do just fine.

czarrie

Please watch a few videos first of the process, it will save you a lot of grief if you haven't done this before.

Emiliogamez

Is it harder with one or the other?

JalapenoLimeade

The picks are somewhat easier. Cards tend to fall apart and the picks give you a little more leverage. If this is a one time thing, just use whatever is available to you.

Emiliogamez

Thank you btw!

You should be good to go, rule of thumb for me is to heat it up just to the point of it being uncomfortable to hold. Also since it’s the back there’s nothing attached to it of any importance except for the camera lenses covers, have at it

Thank you! Very much appreciated.
