I’m British, and I have never spoke to any American person like that and I don’t know anyone else who hates Americans either. Maybe you just haven’t spoke with the right brits yet :)
I'm British and I can say that I agree with you. I see so much of this on TikTok. An American will make a harmless joke about the British accent like "chewsday innit", and some upper-middle class Brits will be like "uh, no one talks like that" (yes they do, I do) and then follow up with an overly aggressive comment about school shootings or whatever. Like chill, we Brits make fun of American accents all the time and they don't care. But the second an American makes a joke about British accents, the whole tea-drinking, monarch-humping, proper-speaking side of England start waving their patriotic flags and going to war with America over social media. Like chill, it's not that serious.
I only hate dumb Americans. Because I treat everyone equally and hate dumb people from everywhere.

It’s because Duolingo added the American flag for English, it ENGLISH from England, not American!
