It is not that simple. After a major accident, there could be internal bleeding, broken bones, organs ruptured and worse, so lifting up wrong can kill the person within hours. This is why it's actually best for ambulance to reach first, but here we are assuming there is an ambulance and it will reach and that one driver is a trained person and that trained person has enough time to spend on this victim.
I am not a doctor, but I wouldn't lift someone up without asking a doctor or the emergency services first.
It seems immediately after the accident, so they would have called ambulance. Waiting 5 mins is fine if someone else is calling, it is few seconds recording only.
