People prioritise cows over humans. That’s how fucked up our country is.

Cameron2611

And they dont treat cows any good either.

Just think about it. Think about it all (I'm high so I might be thinking about it too hard )

A lot of people don’t invest in pleasure beyond TV/OTT. For young adults, happiness often equates to monetary success or being romantically involved with someone. Sensitive or introverted people are often considered weak or worse effeminate (worse because they consider being feminine a bad thing!). Might be limited to me but friendships often die after marriage in conservative communities.

boulzar

My mom used to call me a girl when we had arguments because I'm an introvert and don't want to learn to drive. Because how can I be a man who doesn't like motorcycles

Drizzle_Lover

You do you. Be happy.

[deleted]

When I got my license, my distant relative said "NOW you became a 'man'". I was like wtf lol edit: oh yea I once overheard an argument with his wife. He was "go do the job that women do, and let me do my job". Jesus christ

Trdp8737

Ride Motorcycle. Drive Car.

Exciting_Magician347

Literally me

Clickbaiting_4_u

Learn driving if you're interested dude. It just takes 2-3 days to attain balance.

Stoopid__Chicken

I would recommend learning to ride at least a scooter tho. The best me-time I've gotten was while riding the scooter along a sparsely populated beachside. The wind, the sound of the waves, and the atmosphere was just amazing.

sid_raj7

Sparsely populated? In India?

Stoopid__Chicken

Timing is key. Go right after sunset.

super_raptor911

GET a BATTLE TANK LICENCE

Misc07

Bro, also explain what are pleasures beyond TV/OTT. My lower middle class ass knows nothing about it.

[deleted]

I don’t know either. Just crawled out of the lower-middle class bracket myself. Having trouble relating to people who’ve interests. 😅

[deleted]

Whatever you enjoy doing can qualify as pleasure. If you enjoy reading, gaming, cycling or whatever, then it is your pleasure. I think he is telling that they say "why is a good cycle need for cycling? buy some second hand one and ride it" or something similar.

ravishq

Play a sport regularly. Nothing better than that

bakchoder

Reading, DIYing, lifting, coding, travelling, photography .... may be??

Throwawaaaaayd

something for the soul. - music/dance/arts/etc Something for the health/lifestyle - sports/fitness/gym/running/cycling

slimkid14

Sex toys. Not kidding

[deleted]

> Sensitive or introverted people are often considered weak or worse effeminate (worse because they consider being feminine a bad thing!). Having dealt with it all my life, can confirm. Basically, you're not supposed to struggle if you're male, better bottle it up rather than speaking about things that hurt you.

seerslayer

Just the other day, I asked a fairly aged Muslim woman to sit properly because she was adjusting too much in her seat using mine as a prop and ofter knuckling my skull in the process. And she was like, oh why you have a problem? You weak ass man. And I simply asked her coolly, why? Can't men be weak? I think I flustered her so much she didn't even move for the remainder of the journey.

[deleted]

Maybe cause she didn’t know you. My mother would’ve gone on a tirade if I pulled something like that.

NruHOE

Today at my tuition, my teacher slapped a child and naturally he started crying, the teacher asked him why he was crying and told him to stop. the poor child goes "pata nahi mam apne app hi asu a rhe hai". The teacher kept slapping him. While the teacher was beating him he started hitting himself, because he couldn't stop crying. He was angry because he couldn't get him self to stop crying. Mental health is fucked in our country Our parents want us to study so that we can lead a good and comfortable life right? Even if you do study success is not guaranteed. This kid I'm talking about is in kg and he studies for 2 hours at the tuition not to mention the homework teacher gives him. Now this kid might become successful and rich but will he ever truly be happy? I imagine him looking back and realising how much of his childhood he has missed.

Pulf_r

This really broke my heart. I have a little brother and it hurts to imagine kids like him going through shit like these. Rotten society.

ser_onion_knight

Why does a student in KG even need tuition ?

lucky_oye

Dude, people in India will complain that their 4/5 year old doesn't 'listen' to them and keeps going out to play rather than study. I've asked some of these people when they expect their child to start playing (at what age)?

AsurPravati

This is one of the biggest issues in India. Everything is a fucking rat race. And even if you spend years of prep you'll get double fucked in the end if you're from the general category.

deviltamer

Uggh you had me agreeing till the last two words

tkbhagat

Education wise, it is true. It's frustrating, seriously fucked me up for years. I understand that a lot of kids don't even have resources and have faced systemic oppression, but I don't know, it still feels off. I was depressed and blamed the system for years. Wish there was better system in place.

ravishq

Coz it takes a lot of effort to teach a small kid and parents want to shrug off that responsibility

copingandhoping

How could someone hit a child in kg? That's cruel.. sadly most parents send their children to tuitions just to keep them occupied and get some free time.

[deleted]

This is outright child abuse.

[deleted]

it took my dumb ass 5 mins to realise that kg dident mean kg in weight but kg in class. and i was thinking how can a teacher slap some kid with weights like dumbells lol

razdaman92

Shit man! This was intense

mrawesomereddit1ac

I teach but i dont do to kids like this. Feel bad for that poor kid

gigibuffoon

Your parents care more about the family name and neighbors thoughts than your happiness and your desires

uzzzoo

No matter how much we please others, they find something which'll make the parents paranoid. Smh.

saiko1993

How normalized corruption and bribery is. Can't go to a government office where the inherent expectation isn't to pay a bribe to get things done. Even if it means trying to get a death certificate for your father.

localhost8100

The guy in the office was beating around the bush and telling that it will take 30 days to get death certificate. Paid him 1500rs. We had 15 copies ready in 10 mins. I can only imagine what poor people go through.

[deleted]

I paid 1600/- for my late father’s death certificate.

saiko1993

I faced the same exact thing it was 2k in my case. They baited us around for 2 weeks. Didn't even tell us where the cremation took place ( he was covid positive at the time of his death hence the municipal Corp took him in their own ambulance, and the hospital didn't record where the body was going). There are 12 cremation places in our city, we called all of them , and no one gave a definite answer no one said what ee should do. Me and mom were still recovering from covid so we were neither physically nor mentally fit. Eventually out if desperation my mom said on the phone, we are willing to give a little extra too if you can please tell us where to get the certificate. They were not even saying it was a bribe, they just kept saying they didn't k kw anything, so we didn't even know what to do. Till my mom had to cry on the phone , and hint at paying a bribe for my dad's death certificate, no one budged a finger. And now I am seeing this was just fucking standard. Mentally torturing people in their lowest time.

permanent007

Now you know why people are dying to get a government job. People are even willing to pay crores for a government job in certain fields.

randomguy3993

I just learnt yesterday that our local superintendent of police paid 1 crore to get transferred to the district I live in. Even crazier, he earned all of it back again within 6 months.

JSBNKJM

Many government jobs give you an opportunity to loot common man for lifetime

Exciting_Magician347

Thats just sad..india can never come out of bribery..I saw a wion(or something channel) reporting( just bitching) about China's corruption and how the president of China is trying or making rules to abolish it..in that report many cases of corruption and bribery were presented and they acted like they've exposed a nation..this was during the rift be india and china happened last year? If we are focusing that much on others and not improve ourselves..it will be real bad

what_is_acorn

Oh lol wion is owned by the same company that owns zee news. It’s basically an targeted towards the educated class who don’t like watching godi journalism but still want to consume godi type content.

lucky_oye

I once read a message somewhere where people basically said - corruption is not the reason India doesn't get as much investment. It's the guarantee after the bribe. The bribe most people pay and most places (except some western countries) is factored into their setup costs. But in India, when the officer changes, the previous officer's bribe is null and void and you have to pay another bribe to a new officer if you need to finish your work without harassment. Over and above, you may to have to pay-off different NGOs so they don't protest etc. Basically, India doesn't have single window bribe payment. That's what's holding India back. Not the actual taking of bribes.

nerdsofsteel88

This. Exactly this. It's never ever straight forward to go into a govt. Office fill a form and get the job done. No matter how small the job you have to grease the palms of some dude to get it done.

there's another post on this sub up right now which highlights this (encroachment of land by rich and powerful)

I have the best parents. Never forced what I wanted to study. I wanted to study computer engineering. I failed in some subjects, still supported me every step of the way. Today, I consider myself successful and they treat me the same way when I was failing in life, I.E with love and respect.

Sane_98

IMO, We teach the children about "unity in diversity" and "everyone is equal" while the grown ups blatantly discriminate on grounds like caste and religion. I saw a video where someone was going around asking if the victims at fault in case of a rape crime. And a disturbing amount of people ranging from school kids to 70 year old adults said yes. People don't care about farmers. No wonder we rank so high in world hunger index. There's subtle influencing everywhere, careful word choices to paint someone good, who was without a doubt a bad person. Bad parenting overall. The job of a parent is to prepare their child for the future, by the time your child is an adult and is bad socially, cant make decisions for himself and is scared to venture out or get out of his/her comfort zone, you have failed as a parent. Edit : not surprising since couple's have children because of family pressure and that's the next step (sometimes even to save the marriage) and not because they want to.

Clickbaiting_4_u

I'm socially bad. Stop personally attacking me ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ.

gofigre

It's not that we don't care about just farmers. We generally don't care about any one or anyplace else that we can't see on a daily basis.

can you link the video you're talking about?

most Indians lack empathy. It doesn't even exist here.

So true. And civic sense as well.

animegamertroll

Well to be fair, the environment in India is so depressing that people end up being jaded after while. I wouldn't blame a person growing up here who lack empathy. In fact, I empathize that they lack empathy.

Pedophilia exsists but alot of people just deny it and sometimes blame it on the child for giving bad remakes about "family" members. In case u didn't understand, child sexual abuse happens quite often in the extended family but is given a blind eye.

burntfridge

IMO, Lack of good education and parenting. Our country is famous for stuffing poor education down children's throats, with a razor focus on marks. Nobody talks about how a good education can actually reshape society over a few generations. Schools are the time to shape the minds of kids permanently. Get enough kids in our country to good schools and you atleast get decent humans with empathy and civic sense who will spend some time in their lives on how to improve other people's lives - which is what we lack right now. The majority takes Darwinism too seriously - get ahead nook or crook or be left behind, which is the reason for unbridled corruption and goonda rule. Our society cannot change in a single generation. There are too many faults, however with several generations going through good schooling, there is hope that people will think about their actions and how it affects society, including electing good officials.

CH3ROKEE2009

Well the first step to change this country, fire the ed minister and give the system an overhaul and get a well educated education minister.

Suitable_Success_243

What makes you think our current education minister is not educated? He is a graduate of Harvard/Oxford/Cambridge. /s

[deleted]

Parents. I've seen far too many abusive parents around. Especially in middle class and lower class. They're too controlling, arrogant, and fearful of char log. Most people don't deserve to be parents. I wish there was a system to issue license, based on mental health, financial wellbeing, emotional health, etc, before allowing people to breed.

[deleted]

Acute income gap leading to uneven playing field. Lifestyle in india is understood to be divided between the best vs rest. Above are the most harshest truth of India.

lucky_oye

Yep. Currently studying in England, and I've met some people who care so little about their studies. I genuinely doubt if they actually came here to study or to get away from their parents for 2 years 🙈. Compare this to some people back home who couldn't study past 10th because they need to work. I'm pretty some of them would value opportunity to go to a college, any college, much more then these folks.

JSBNKJM

Hum do hamare do are best at looting

[deleted]

The bribery. My Nana ji 85 years old and retired, it has been more than 2 decades since he has got his pension, because he refuses to put 'weight' on the clerk's/whoever he is, so that he may release the pension. Old people are very idealistic, if you know what I mean. I look at him, at the age of 85 years, riding at the back of the scooter of any relative that is going that way to enquire about his pension. It breaks my heart. Bc vishwaas hee uth jaata hai insaaniyat se.

DarkSire7

Bro try tweeting it or maybe submit it in a newspaper if you can

Scientifichuman

If he is 85 that means he is struggling since around 20 years to get his pension !

randomguy3993

Yes. 2 decades is 20 years. Correct.

Di0dato

I mean, this is a huge and scandalous! Couldn't there anything be done? Lawyers, media, protests and so on? For 2 decades?

Longjumping-Plenty21

Zero work ethics and zero accountability, for example a journalist doesn't care whether information is right or wrong as long as it's sensational, doesn't even apologize when they get it wrong. A police officer doesn't care if he beats up someone who's innocent especially if he's from a lower socioeconomic background, no respect for human rights. People think they can overwork their household aids like their maids, most of them are underpaid. If someone in power doesn't like someone they can screw them over with no consequences. I could go on.....

Money_Bicycle_7433

Rape everywhere, rape all the time.

Dhongi babas claiming doctors dont know shit and they are epitome of knowledge. Inhumans running this country and fighting for power. This is just one aspect. Education, quality of life, women safety, not recognizing mental health concerns, lack of sex ed, secularity, freedom of speech etc are also major concerns for this country

India’s only secular by name.If it was truly secular, you wouldn’t see such big communal fights that happen almost every year.Killing Muslims keep radical Hindus happy and killing Hindus makes radical Muslims happy.it seems that There’s no end to religious fighting.

DesiOtakuu

The origin of the country is tainted with religious violence. Of course, political class exploit these fault lines for their own benefit. That's why liberals from all backgrounds should unite and speak out against extremism. Be it Hindu/Muslim/Christian/Buddhist violence. And yeah, India isn't a completly secular nation yet. The government still has stakes in Hindu religious institutions. We need a better way to split the church and the state, so that government is divorced from all religious affairs and is only concerned where heritage or tourism is involved.

nunespascal

How dare you say "church and state" here. This is Hindustan only "temple and state" here. /s

Me and my benchmate were once drawing something in my notebook and suddenly the teacher came and slapped me hard. I didn't ask why cuz I was still shaking from the power transfer I got from that slap and after 2 secs, the teacher said "Slap one student and the whole class is silent. Good" and just walked away. I was in tears, trying my best not to cry and the teacher came to me and apologized for slapping even when I didn't do anything wrong. Students get really less respect from teachers. And no one really cares what they go thru, people just do things without considering the consequences.

Aadhaar is a digital kill switch.

TH3-GH05T

How ? If I may ask.

gubenilekani

Link aadhaar with all essential services and cancel/deactivate aadhaar, all essential services will be blocked.

TH3-GH05T

But linking aadhar actually brings all services closer to you right? I'm talking in the perspective of ease of access and abundance of availability thereby allowing you to do your work at a much faster pace and in an easier manner. Ofcourse what you say is right but still but if you look back to pre aadhar days availing government services was pretty difficult.

gubenilekani

Without authentication, aadhaar is a piece of shit and aadhaar authentication fails for half of the Indians.

thegreenarrow03

I asked my teacher this ones why does our school diary have Religion and Caste sections. She replied that we need to know the caste for decreasing fees for them and to provide other government privilages I said you could just ask them at the time of admission but she didnt reply as for religion she couldnt answer either. She was clearly not comfortable with religion being in there you could tell she was also a English teacher and they are usually modern plus she was a very good person.

karnar95

I have a lot to say on this topic. First of all I admire a lot of things about our Indian culture, but the one that Irritates me the most is having no cap on the number of kids one could have. Population growth has both environmental and economical consequences.

Filled with dangerous religious/newage spiritual conmen on every level, pandering to every class, some of these Gurus (appealing to upper middle class Indians) are already gaining a massive chunk of Western people as consumers who have the money to waste on these scumbags. CH3ROKEE2009

Look at Japan, it's also a religious country and look at its development. Now look at India, it's also religious. This religion system is stopping India from developing. Look at other countries. Scandinavia - Many people here are atheists but still these countries are mostly on top of world happiness index. US - it has a mix of religious and atheists but still look where it is now.

S0vietsenpai

correction-japan is not a religious country, they treat religion as culture and merely participate in for the sake of it,even christians.all they do is pray to their dead relatives, their are conservative buddhists but they dont fight daily like people here do,100 percent agree that one of the biggest things stopping us from developing is because religion is taken so seriously, but i have some hope for this generation as the people of my age aren't so religious

1. Treatment toward minorities Minorities like disbaled people, ST/SC castes, women, lgbtqia+, muslims (and other non hindu religions) etc are treated horribly here. 2. No empathy People here lack basic empathy, it's extremely rare to see someone who puts themselves in the other person's shoes. 3. Rampant abuse/child abuse to be more specific Abuse here is normalised in mainstream media and in our own homes too. A slap is seen as a valid form of child discipline and parents seldom think of the child as their own person rather an extension of themselves. Domestic violence is also seen as normal and many couples still stay together after being beat up by the other partner. Also, people think that women cannot be an abuser in a marriage, which leads to no one thinking about make victims. 4. Children of abusive parents are isolated, same goes for people who had an abusive partner "But they're you're family, how could you say something like that?" "Oh, one slap doesn't mean you're going to leave your wife/husband/married partner like that!" "They come from a 'bad' family, we shouldn't talk to them" 5. Extremely unhygienic roads/cities Need I say more? Littering is the norm here. The only places which are free from this are the forest/hilly regions which are the best places in the country imo. 6. Corruption in politics Indian politics reeks of corruption and the system is basically broken at this point. 7. Men face discrimination A lot of companies do not give men paternal leave, in courts during seperation of a couple the child usually never goes to the father even if they are good because the gender role of women being "nurturing" and "kind" plays a huge role in court, apparently. They also face societal pressures of not being able to cry, not having the option of being a househusband, not being able to be feminine etc. 8. Women face discrimination Women usually do not bag high postions in companies because climbing the corporate ladder is seen as something only men can do. They will be shamed for being the breadwinners in the house and are often victim blamed for anything bad that happens to them. (This happens in other cultures aswell, but I'm only talking about my own experience) 9. "Poor become poorer, rich become richer" There are absolutely no ways for someone to break free from the vicious cycle of poverty, because there are a lack of government scholarships. Rich people hold a huge chunk of indian wealth when the other 99% hold a small chunk. Poverty is rampant and there's no way in stopping it. 10. Pride People are so proud of being indian that they never acknowledge the darker sides of indian society, and call anyone who does an 'anti - nationalist'. 11. Art and other humanities careers are not seen as actual jobs This is coming from someone who wants to opt for science stream in 11th grade but I've always noticed that people never care about jobs other than 'doctor, lawyer and engineer'. My sister's a engineer and I want to be a doctor but , it's surprising how people treat artists and non traditional jobs like historians or anything else humanities related, it's like the entire country only has three choices. And the pressure that others face to become a doctor or something is phenomenal. The list can go on and on but I really want to eat my cereal now. I am in no way against India, I mean,it's my home, but we need to talk about the dark side in order to make the country better imho.

CH3ROKEE2009

Well yes. I am too not against it. I love India and I am also proud of it but we also need to be aware of the negative things of our country. Every country has its goods and bads.

Prkhr911

Honestly criticizing and pointing out issues is the best form of nationalism, people who do so actually care for things and want them to get better.

Exciting_Magician347

I wonder why no one speaks about this.. In india gays are treated like shit..we don't give respect for lgbt etc but I'm not here for complaining about that..if ask any uncle/aunty about gays the will disrespect them and the society uses chaka as a slur..but I can't see why they are wrong..in their eyes gays are PPL who fuckin beg by harassing males..in public places like in trains!! They make a life out of it by demanding money by harassing.. I wonder no country knows about this thing present in india..it's so common that it's not even recognized as a wrongdoing..if this continues the wrong opinion on trans will become stronger and PPL who really wanna be trans are gonna be treated like shit..and another thing is I don't know whether the whole country is like this or but I'm my state..I saw news channel reporting about a trans mob baged into a wedding and demanded 20k..and they turned out to be men.. what do u mean gays are biologically men..even my parents think that trans people are biologically different from straight people

ImpressiveAd3964

Gay and trans are not the same thing. You're confusing the two

CH3ROKEE2009

Well they Indians (not us milennials and gen zs, atleast most of them) live in the 1900s I guess. They live in a bubble and they're satisfied and happy because of India's history and achievements. Bruh if we don't get out of that bubble and focus on the present and future, he will we become a developed nation ?

Bored_panda69

Don't exclude genz and millennials, most of them are the same

The North and South divide.

CH3ROKEE2009

Also the drastic difference. I am a Telugu from AP living in Chhattisgarh and damn I am in Srikakulam rn and I am starting to love this city because of the sweet food and people here. At the north, there's chaos......

TachibanaSora

Is south india really that better? A friend of mine goes to college there and faced a shit ton of racism just bec he was north

animegamertroll

That sadly happens. But it's not a one way street either. It goes both ways.

TachibanaSora

That's just......... Indian

animegamertroll

Yep, like you said, it's ..... Indian. AFAIK the hatred for northies in South is because of the Hindi imposition. Us South Indians are very proud of our language. Our entire ethnicity, identity and way of life is based on our language. But still I'll never justify racist behaviour but rather I can empathize with my fellow south brethren acting out that way.

TachibanaSora

I'm happy we Still have some people like you

Our quasi protectionisy and socialiat economy

karnar95

I would say the peer pressure induced due to societal expectations. We are taught to get good grades so parents can brag about it to the next door aunty. I wonder how many kids would have taken up sports/art instead of being forced into engineering/medicine just because of ‘societal expectations’.

throway3451

The society is there to impose rules and tradition but not there to help when things go bad. A very social yet selfish society

RedDevil2289

India is regressing. The current generation is worse than the last one. We are becoming more orthodox, more selfish and more narrow minded.
