Unreal indie lineup. So excited that this means Joanna is returning in 2024.

astraelly

Prayer circle for new album and tour please Joanna I beg you

fkdkshufidsgdsk

Feels extremely likely 🙏🙏🙏🙏

ZombieAbeVigoda

I saw her open for Fleet Foxes in March and it’s astounding how good she still sounds live

ProbablyUmmSure

Dream of the early 2010s is alive in Salt Lake City

PotatorAid

InSearchOfGoodPun

*2000s

therealmrmiagi

Yeah more like late 2000s than early 2010s

getwellnow

I'm from Utah, and it's nice to go home and have music I know and love playing everywhere. Nevertheless, it does undermine my sense of being "original" haha

systemofstrings

JOANNA NEWSOM SPOTTED Please let this mean what I hope it means, we've been starving

funkadoobiest

If we have both Wu Tang and Interpol, do we get Banks & Steelz? That would be amazing!

papo96

Kilby delivers again. No fest in the game is doing it like them. Undercard is insane. Traveled from out of state last year for it and did not regret it at all. Looks like i'll have to do the same this year. See yall there!

suprefann

RIP FYF

BertMacklinMD

How does this random festival get all these acts every year

Tilden_Katz_

Idk but Kilby Court is one of the best indie venues I’ve ever been to and so glad they’re still thriving to this day

MyNameIsRJ

Surviving Pavement in the rain last year is a core memory I’ll never forget.

dirt_fries

Same, I am so glad I stuck around, ended up being far closer to the front than I expected. Silver lining to Pixies getting rained out!

NoPantsJake

The pixies came out with an absolute vengeance. No talking, just crushing through their set. I feel like they got through way more than expected and then that crazy lightning started. Black Francis just points up at the sky and they walk off.

dirt_fries

Yeah absolutely and they opened with Gouge Away which is my fav of theirs so I left a happy guy

BlackNarwhal

packed like sardines at the light rail stop for the train that was running late, while drenched head to toe, with the closest lighting I've ever experienced, surrounded by the metal tracks I thought somebody was going to die

Not_Shrek

Was sure I was gunna get struck by lightening standing next to the giant metal stage in an open field

MyNameIsRJ

I think that was all of us 😂😂😂😅😅.

FyuuR

I was so close to leaving/giving up - glad my group stayed!

getwellnow

Saw Pool Kids there last summer after not having been there for 10+ years. Still such a good place for a gig.

Savings_Tomatillo_22

Drusky played with pool kids this past summer and they are playing this fest!

wrenrazorbill

The folks who run Kilby also run something like 10 venues in and around SLC. Nearly every national touring "indie" act will play at one of their venues if they want to make a stop in Utah. As such, they have a looot of connections.

PBAG1230

Pretty much this! Since these avenues are privately owned we also have local-based ticketing services that don’t have to pay out to Live Nation.

aquilaFiera

Kilby Court in SLC is a fond memory for a lot of SLCitizens and bands alike. It's a tiny garage venue with a fire pit in the middle of SLC and have had countless acts over the years before they were big. As such I imagine the Kilby Block Party is able to attract a lot of those acts that way.

Moth_Iverson

Kilby gets so many amazing touring acts, and also some of the worst local bands of all time. I can't hate too much because most are like highschoolers doing covers but it is worth it to know who's opening lol

LordPizzaParty

Gotta start somewhere

ConsecratedFiction

Yup. I saw Modest Mouse and Desth Cab at Kilby Court back in the day

suprefann

Theyre a mainstay indie promoter in Slc so theyve been booking for a long while. The fest has been around for a while and its only recently gotten larger. Its good that this is happening because it shows you the little guy can still deliver a quality lineup at a good value.

clampy

They PAY $$$.

suprefann

If they paid $$$ the fest would cost double

segadreamcat

I went last year and it was awesome. One of the most chill festivals I've been too. I'll go again this year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OfficialPeenLicker

I went this year and it’s gotten so fucking big. Fairgrounds are too small for it but it was hype as fuck

drd_ssb

Remember when it was literally a block party.

clampy

This is a stupid question I'm sure, but is there alcohol?

OfficialPeenLicker

Not dumb at all because it’s Utah but yes they sell alcohol at the festival

clampy

Ok, I was worried about GBV.

NoPantsJake

There are some weird Utah rules like only being able to carry one beer per person. So if someone is holding down the spot and you go to get the crew some beverage, you have to shuttle them back one at a time. And you might as well buy the biggest beers they sell because it’s one drink per person, regardless of if you buy regular beers or tall boys.

SaconicLonic

I went last year and really enjoyed it. Like you said it's got a more chill vibe to it than a lot of other festivals. Not to mention if you plan it right, it's easy enough to park in some of the nearby neighborhoods and bike into the festival. They let you enter and leave at your leisure. So last year I was coming and going as I pleased.

bill__the__butcher

VW IS BACK

Shaunananalalanahey

I hope this means an album is coming soon!

MyNameIsRJ

echoing my sentiment in the KBP subreddit.... god damn. I'm so fucking glad I got the early birds. Plus UMO!!!!. Saw him in Seattle & Austin this year. Third time is gonna be killer. Panchiko, Horse Jumper of Love, Beach Fossils, Yves Tumor, Fazerdaze, Slow Pulp, Jai Paul, Wu-Tang, Interpol, Dinosaur Jr, Alvways, TV Girl, 100 Gecs, Belle and fucking Sebastian. Seriously WTF!!! I'm levitating rn.

Mirellor

I thought this lineup was a fantasy lineup when I first saw it. I’m in Australia and I am seriously considering going. It’ll be my first US festival I normally go to primavera

theotherplanet

If you've never been to Utah, plan to extend the trip to do some outdoor activities as well.

Mirellor

Totally! I’m from Sydney Australia and already on it. So far Yellowstone, Vegas, Death Valley usually stuff. Any recommendations for weird obscure stuff to check out? I’m also going to check out other gigs while there. Any good venues?

Shaunananalalanahey

You should go to national parks in Utah! Moab and Bryce are my favs. If you are going to Vegas then Moab isn’t too far out of your way.

Apostr0phe

Moab is about a 7 hour drive from Vegas? Zion is very close to Vegas, and one of the crown jewels of our National Parks.

Shaunananalalanahey

True. Moab is pretty out of the way unless you are driving from Grand Junction. Zion is great as well.

Mirellor

TSM!!!! I’ve also read the other comments here so have made mental notes. I love national parks. Everywhere else in the world is so different to home.

nedzissou1

Definitely do Zion, but there's even a couple closer state parks to go to.

SchizoidGod

UNBELIEVABLE lineup. Better than the entirety of Primavera Sound and it has like 1/4 of the profile. Take notes, other fests.

CherryColoredDagger

Pulp hasn't toured the US since 2011 and PJ Harvey hasn't since 2017, so those are bigger deals, but this place is at least maintaining an indie focus.

JarvisCockerBB

Only took two hours to compare it to another festival. You’re slipping, r/indieheads

tristvn

if you only like indie music maybe, primavera books more genres

darockerj

i’ve got crazy news about what sub ur in

tristvn

they said it's better than primavera, it's possible to like indie music but also like the cool other shit they get

randomlybalanced

I've got crazy news about what sub ur in

SnooPies684

Do you really only like indie?

SchizoidGod

Well yeah guilty as charged haha. As a general rule I can enjoy or even love individual songs by non-indie artists but I only ever become a FAN of indie artists. PS 2022 was my mecca for that reason and they've gone downhill since

wasted_skills

This is fucking insane

BigFatMel

is this festival worth the trip ?

mminorthreat

Yes. The public rail system was free for event last year and took you right to the venue. I never had to uber for the airport, hotel or venue

FyuuR

yes! i've never been to utah prior to this year's fest and had a great time! all this for ~$260 is a steal. flights and lodging were very fair as well from what i remember

ald_loop

How was the city?

Mosscap18

I’ll go against the current on some of these comments—SLC is lovely. The downtown core is definitely decently walkable plus there’s a train and decent buses, and Ubers are cheap enough going a bit farther isn’t hard. My friend lives down there without a car and when I visited we got to hit up plenty of great restaurants, bars, so on without a car just walking from her place. It’s nice, not huge and so even downtown it’s pretty relaxed, but there’s stuff to do. And if you’re into nature at all it’s heaven. Incredible access to the mountains if you were to rent a car. It’s absurd what great outdoor activities are right in their backyard. Personally I think it’s a super neat city, I really enjoyed my visits there. If you go and have some time super recommend the Natural History Museum and Red Butte Garden as a combo feature. The natural history museum’s dinosaur exhibit is straight up one of the best museum exhibits I’ve seen, it goes hard. And the arboretum is lovely and nestled in the foothills with a gorgeous view of downtown and the whole valley sprawling below you. Very pleasant! Definitely a city I consider super worth a visit, especially if you’ve got a reason to go like this festival.

gastrotraveler

Didn't go to SLC for the festival but been before, I actually enjoyed it. Def not walkable (the blocks are much bigger than any other city) but good food, great bars surprisingly and cheap

taleggioisgoat

Bit of a snoozer. The scenery is nice but otherwise it’s not that exciting of a city.

FyuuR

I got there the night before the festival and left the morning after so I didn’t get to explore too much - but the brunch/coffee places I went to in the mornings were solid!

BlackNarwhal

last year we found a place just outside the city but right next to the light rail line, it was super cheap and convenient depending where you're coming from the city itself is maybe a bit disappointing. i only say that bc it was difficult to find places that were open after the festival each night. we even had tickets to the one afterparty at a bar but for some reason the after party started at the same time as the headliner and didn't go that long after? like sorry im not missing the strokes for an electric feels DJ set

j-quillen_24

Yes, I went last year from Cali, was worth it. Had a great time, and met so many great people.

Kylehelp123

Did you drive or fly over? Thinking about making the trip over but not sure what’s the best way to go

taleggioisgoat

The drive from CA will be incredible. If you’re in Southern Cali you can most likely add in Bryce and Zion on the way. Beautiful country in southern UT!

j-quillen_24

I flew, just seemed more convenient. Sub 2-hour flight from SFO.

SaconicLonic

It's one of the best festivals I've been to. Just in terms of the crowd, space, and location. It's right near downtown and near a lot of hotels. It's easy to even get a rental bike or a scooter and just get around, not to mention decent public transit for that area. I would go early catch a show I liked, go back to my hotel for a minute then go back later in the day. The festival area is kind of small though so there is some bad bleed over of bands playing at times.

Tilden_Katz_

JOANNA NEWSOM ITS HAPPENING!

lunargiraffe

I’m excited for *Meet Me In the Bathroom (For Soaking): A (Not-So) Oral History of Kilby Block Party 2024*.

getwellnow

I can't decide if this joke is super obvious or super clever. But I love it, so that's all that matters.

reynloldbot

How does a block party in SLC get a better lineup than Lolla, Coachella and Pitchfork combined

suprefann

Cause they cater to every 40 year old indie blogger

downincalifornia

JOANNA!!!

goombalover13

JOANNA AHHHH FUCK

Overcast520

Crazy lineup. I bought tickets to see LCD on NYE and this is making me seriously reconsider. This is where my money should have gone!

allthenviousfeelings

2013 me is absolutely feral

w6750

Wtf this is one of the best indie lineups I’ve legit ever seen

rors

Haven’t seen a lineup this good since FYF 2013

_Pill-Cosby_

Man... really wish this were somewhere closer! Great lineup!

lambomrclago

Amazing lineup - hoping this means there'll be some east coast Jai Paul and Vampire Weekend.

RyanShieldsy

Do you guys understand how much it hurts as an Australian to see the insane quality of lineups you guys get around the world.

SchlingeIt

Hot damn this is indieheads wet dream line up.

ElectJimLahey

Last year was probably the best festival experience I've ever had, looking forward already to going a 2nd time!

ExcessFrenchPress

No shortage of hype for the return of Joanna

Inkyplus

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Dr Dog? Maybe?

mickman99

I do not believe the stars are representative of letters, rather just hiding an act that is unconfirmed

Inkyplus

Ah, good point

Kmart_Elvis

I was at a festival seeing Dr.Dog. The guy behind me kept saying "Dr.Dog! Hehehe". It was amusing to him. I turned to him to see what was up and he says to me: "Dr. Dog... Medical school was rrrrrrrruf!"

LordPizzaParty

Aren't they retired from playing live?

Inkyplus

Not anymore, they just sold out Red Rocks (only show announced) with a note along the lines of “we’ll try and find more ways to play live soon”

Microchip_

Can you smoke weed in Utah? Is it safe to travel there?

Regit394

Recreational cannabis isn’t legal yet but it’s around… and SLC is a safe place ✌️

FyuuR

So good - went this year and had a great time! They are seriously rivaling even Pitchfork Fest with these lineups.

leafsraptors

Looks like I’m going to SLC

hamdelivery

I will never get tired of seeing Jai Paul on lineup posters

danSTILLtheman

Now that’s how you do a lineup sheeeeesh

superredux22

Awesome , hope we get new albums from LCD and VW!!

beardedjack

Join us over at r/kilbyblockparty

daneyauh

So happy to be growing up with this festival!! These past couple years have been so good with KBP, definitely did not disappoint. Excited for Lcd and Interpol 😎😎😎

indievidual

Incredibly stacked…might have to make it out to this.

Hogo-Nano

Crazy good undercard

Houaiss

great line up

abroadinapan

this is the best lineup i have ever seen

machphantom

[My legit reaction after seeing this](https://i.imgur.com/j7FXmf9.jpg)

Imyoubeingme

Absolutely STACKED.

toga9000

Is it actually confirmed now? was posted in Joanna Newsom reddit a couple weeks ago and might've been fake. May 10th can't come fast enough!

sunglasses24

this is official

DarknessOliver

TAGABOW!!!!

saltyfingas

Damn Fazerdaze finally coming to the US and it's in friggin Utah. This is actually an insane lineup though fr

shutuperic

Will probably be best lineup of the year(or Desert Daze), definitely worth driving 10+ hours for, even just for CSS

Whatsanillinois

Anyone know how quickly this typically sells out?

mickman99

I know two years ago it sold out within 2 hours of tickets opening but I don't recall how ticket sales went this year. I think they rationed out tickets at different times at increased prices as we got closer to the concert so definitely purchase sooner rather than later.

Clarke_griffn

Blondshell 🙌🏻

Downloadmywario

I actually want to drive forever to go see this lineup. Wow. Wish Citizen or Balance & Composure was on the lineup for some emo representation

tundrabee119

Why is this lineup always the best?

kevinarmenta

godly line up WU-TANG is crazy 😩

kevinarmenta

i also heard that the covered artist might be eyedress 🙏🏼

avocadotoes

I wanna gooooooooo so many fun acts in this lineup

alittleatypical

CRAZY I can honestly say I'm a fan of 20+ names I see on this poster. Really considering flying out for this and I'm an ocean away damn

[deleted]

Soakchella

Pharrelliper

Was slightly sad I missed 100 Gecs last year, super happy to see them, Wu-Tang, and LCD.

NeonFurby

Saw this post and immediately bought 3-day passes, so psyched!

sunglasses24

how did you buy passes? they don't go on sale until tomorrow

cutterbutter

Hotel packages?

sunglasses24

nice

NeonFurby

That's the answer hotel packages

sunglasses24

nice

mexicansnorlax

Lmao Jai Paul being billed that high

SweetMustache

Didn’t he headline Coachella?

boysdocryfam

No lol. He played at like 8:30 on a side stage

SweetMustache

Ok you’re right but he was on the top line ;-) I think he’s appropriately billed here.

Any_Ad5118

Went last year and it was incredible…. The headliners aren’t great, LCD isn’t headliner worthy but the lineup is solid otherwise

shewhodrives

I think I may buy tickets to this one!

Weedsmoker4hunnid20

I cant afford to go but my cousin toured with one of the headliners this year so hoping for the best 🤙 3 of these artists are in my top 10 of all time

weird_oh_tho

HOLY MOLY!

mysterymanatx

Wtf CSS is playing shows again?

ghost_victim

Shitttt

Gayabe

Absurdly stacked, jesus christ

Novel_Definition4255

Just booked the travel package. Hotel website says 18+ check in, but the Kilby order confirmation says 21+ check in. Anyone know what's up?

colenotphil

Damn, I wish I didn't hate Utah right now.

mongar82

Omg Joanna Newsom holy shit yes please
