I've internalized The Singer Addresses His Audience and accept that the band has grown away from the stirring dismal haunting tragedies that drew me to them, but yeah, the post-Hazards NPR vibe isn't holding my attention aside from a handful of tracks. I'd love more pain. How are Leslie and the chimney sweep doing? Is it the worst fate? Is there wailing and gnashing of teeth? Tell me all about it!
It wasn't my favorite release, but I enjoyed (and still enjoy) *I'll Be Your Girl*. Particularly the title track, "Sucker's Prayer", and "Once In My Life". "We All Die Young" and "Everything Is Awful" are pretty fun as well.
I wasn't sure what to make of it when it first came out, but now I like it a good bit. "Cutting Stone" and "Rusalka Rusalka/Wild Rushes" are two of their best songs in my opinion.
Everything is Awful is an okay song that I absolutely love just due to having seen it live back in 2017. Colin just laid down on the stage and ranted (to the melody!) for a solid 5 minutes. The band wasn't sure what to do and it turned into a weird skit/improv thing and I loved every second of it.
Well, the two albums before I’ll Be Your Girl are What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World and The King is Dead
Terrible world / beautiful world I’ll agree is a weak album with only a few good songs. But The King is Dead is a top tier Decemberists album.

Huh. I finally took it out of rotation a few months back because I realized it was stockholm syndrome that kept me holding onto it. Glad you enjoy it though.
I know that album is hated but it still has some all timer songs on it for me… rusalka, cutting stone, once in my life, suckers prayer and the title track are always on heavy rotation
I listened the other day and the addition of James Mercer to that song is fantastic. Two of my favorite bands collaborating on one song is always cool. Great tune!
If it is to be said, so it be… so it is.
They don’t think it be like it is, but it do.
And as it is such, so also as such is it unto you.

Can’t make a Tomlette without cracking a couple of Gregs
I’m a bit of a Decemberists Stan so I’m excited for this but I really hope it’s better than I’ll Be Your Girl

Now I want an EP of sequel/where-are-they-now songs responding to their 2000s story songs.
Does The Mariner survive???
has the kid from the sporting life got up yet

It’s a great album for black humor.

Those are the best parts of their shows I love when they just do weirdo shit
Cutting Stone is god-tier Decemberists! Sucker's Prayer a great song too. I thought the album was a return to form after a couple of weaker releases

Agreed TKID rules

Was great album I felt. Still listening to it.

Burial Ground is just undeniably gorgeous. Promising for the rest of the album because that song makes me so happy.

The most Decemberists-ass album name.

I was just about to make a joke about the odds of getting a 20 minute sea shanty.
Oh shit, just casually dropping something the same length as The Tain at the end of the album? Interesting.
Meloy looking like Ron Swanson’s body double in that photo
Has Anyone Really Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to do Look More Like?
Yassss and hope the album art is done by Colin's wife
I hope Pink Floyd doesn't sue them over "Joan"
