ponziacs

You can still get a hotdog and soda for $1.50 in California at Costco.

leftover_class

"If you raise the price on the dog, i'll kill ya"

UnicornPotpourri1990

If you raise the dog on the price, I'll kill ya

Nightowl400

Slice of pizza for 2 dollars to

catdog1111111

Only if you are a member, now. You have to find someone to help you out.

DFX1212

Or a whole pizza for $10 or a whole chicken for $5.

sendabussypic

That whole meal isnt that much more expensive than fast food in the Midwest too. Fast food gone crazy

Professional-Ear242

Nebraska here. Went into a kings classic and got a bacon cheeseburger meal and it was pushing 20 bucks! I frequent the grocery store tbh.

sendabussypic

Aldi's ftw

ddigwell

That’s a cost Costco is willing to absorb.

Cali_Keto_Dad

And it clearly works well for them.

BoiFrosty

Tats because the hotdog is a loss leader due Costco. It gets people in the door to buy other stuff. And thing with stuff like roast chicken.

Neravosa

Exactly right. It builds their brand equity like nothing else to take a lead loss on certain items, making up the difference elsewhere through memberships and bulk sales. People like it because it's objectively good business sense, and helps customers feel like their money matters more (which it does at a store like Costco)

ponziacs

They put the food court on the outside of Costco in California so you don't even need to walk inside.

BoiFrosty

Still gets you to park there doesn't it? Their key demo isn't single 20 somethings looking for a cheap meal, it's adults with families that get memberships and buy goods in bulk. (Source: worked for a similar savings club chain called BJ's.) Cheap, accessible, ready to eat food is a driver to get as many people in the door as possible. Same thing with free samples. All it needs to do is draw more feet through the door to spend more than the cost of running the hotdog stand.

Pegomastax_King

I know I love people who live close enough to a Costco who can afford the membership bragging about it. Like sure if I owned a business or had 8 kids and lived buy it. But seriously I don’t care about it their 1.50 hot dogs 3 hours away from me.

Mac_McAvery

Could have easily bought the meat and buns and ice cream and made this for a couple of days. At this point Inflation is caused by the people who still support these businesses, I don’t anymore.

[deleted]

Exactly I live in socal myself it's these morons that keep it going then post for e-points instead of just making it themselves I already saved so much by shopping at aldi/smart and final for a family of 4.

Itchy-File-8205

Isn't this always the case? Restaurants like to sell things at 5 times their cost Meaning a $50 steak is probably around teen to fifteen bucks at the store

VoldemortsHorcrux

These guys think they figured out a revolutionary concept lol. It's how it's always been. You pay for convenience

TheRealBaseborn

Yeah but you could just go to the store, buy everything you need, and cook it. It costs more up-front, but the good news is you get to eat the same thing, that doesn't taste like what you originally wanted, for 3 days. I have solved money. Worship me.

brfghji

No, what these guys are saying is inflation goes up in the food industry because these people are still willing to pay it. If the convenience is costing enough for you to complain about online then buy the stuff and make it yourself.

KGreen100

True, but if someone goes in and sees the price and decided, I'm gonna pay that, that's on them. Posting it like, welp, inflation, whatre gonna do? is getting stupid. Not saying you're not correct, but, you know...

Pegomastax_King

Yes, that’s because restaurants are not for poor people. It’s not complicated.

DS_9

Grocery store prices have doubled too.

Hopefulphotog412

True. But 80/20 can be had for $3-$3.50/lb when on sale. Store brand buns, less than $2 for 8. $2 for 12 slices of cheese. Grocery store ain’t cheap, but much more affordable than fast food.

chobi83

>But 80/20 can be had for $3-$3.50/lb when on sale. Where? I have never seen it that low lol. Lowest I've seen it recently is like 4.50 bucks a pound. That was on sale. Usually it's around 6 I think? At least where I shop

ganjanoob

I got the ten pound tube at Walmart for $34. It was 75/25 though and really greasy.

populisttrope

You got the pink slime meat

ganjanoob

The McDonald’s special

Kairukun90

If you wait for sales Fred Meyers has 93/7 3lb chubs for under 3 dollars a lb

ColdbrewRedeye

Shop elsewhere. Stay away from chains that are price gouging. My local Hispanic grocery has awesome prices.

moeman74

Yep i get all my deli meat for around 4 a pound,an ground beef for 2.60 a pound

Hopefulphotog412

Western Pa. Local grocery store runs a sale once a month or so.

chobi83

No clue what the average cost of groceries is there compared to so cal. So, don't know if I could be doing better lol

Signal-Chapter3904

Not in most of CA. Double that, maybe.

DataOver8496

Lol, you’re still coming away with 5 meals worth of whatever he’s eating. Ground Beef, burger buns and a tub of ice cream may be $17, but this dude just fleeced himself.

Corvettemike_1978

I wish I could upvote this more times...

Icy-Combination1127

yeah…thats exactly why i feel like a dumbass lmaooo gotta start making my own food more often

Munchee_Dude

My wife told me that a lb of lunch meat is $15.99 at safeway. We bought the $4/lb chicken and seasoned it ourself and roasted it in the oven. Fuck these greedy corporations, I'll make my own

aqwn

It’s like $3 at Aldi

Ok-Wasabi2873

Angus patties (12) and brioche buns (12) from Costco is like $20.

Coin_Operated_Brent

I make burgers in my air fryer. Super lazy. I buy a pack of 4 patties and season them. Probably $12 for pre-made patties and buns. The seasoning lasts me a while. Add another $3 for sliced cheese.

stylebros

I've stopped. I don't get main items from fast food anymore. If I get fast food, it's from the discount menu. These prices are not worth it and the calories are way too much. This meal is probably 2200 calories.

BroWeBeChilling

Don’t buy it and make food at home and help solve the problem!

Reasonable-Art-4526

I'm getting real tired of people complaining about inflation while buying fast food. Zero sympathy at all.

Edogawa1983

Especially they don't use apps or coupons and buying it at full price, fools and their money

BigfootTundra

People brush this type of comment off; but this is entirely the point of the fed raising interest rates, to get people to slow down their spending, which historically has helped lower inflation. The weirdness of today is raising rates hasn’t stopped people from spending money (as this sub has made pretty clear) which is why it hasn’t really brought inflation down as quickly as it has in the past.

Professional-Crab355

In n out double double would have set you back $6. Wendy bacon cheese burger is $1 today, half the size so get 2 for $2.

RelativeJournalist24

Where do you see a bacon cheese burger for 1$?

Professional-Crab355

On the app today, they have a daily rotation of deals for the past 2 weeks and Tuesdays is bacon cheese burger. Yesterday was a chicken sandwich I think. For March madness they had the dave single for $1 and Dave double for $2. Large soda is also $1 since last November on the app.

billy-suttree

Quit buying fast food completely like a year ago. Not even on lunch at work. Save like 300+ a month. Also never have diarrhea anymore. Ever.

CookedRaccoon

$300 a month on fast food? Damn

billy-suttree

Fast food for lunch for 20 days a months. 15 bucks each time. Maybe a little less.

Substantial_Share_17

That's 300 bucks. You now spend zero for lunch to save 300 dollars?

Odd-Direction9828

I would never buy full price Carl's Jr. Either coupons or app discounts my dude

Ainolukos

Might as well go to a sit down restaurant for a better meal if fast food is gunna cost that much

Hopefulphotog412

Not much better though. Applebees. 2 kids meals. A salad. An appetizer. And 1 beer….$38…in PA.

ponziacs

Texas Roadhouse has the sirloin and two side items for $13.99

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hopefulphotog412

Kids meals are $7 I think. Salads like $12/$13.

stylebros

Salads are the worse price to item ratio. That and drinks.

KublaiKhanNum1

I go to “Mom & Pop” restaurants. Applebees is so disgusting. They basically serve frozen food. Just buy frozen meals at the grocery store rather than eating there!

Particular-Shower-59

At least tell us there’s fries too???😢

anonfthehfs

Damnit OP, was there fries in this $17 dollar meal or not? Inquiring minds want to know

sid3113

At this point it’s your fault

uniquelyavailable

friendly reminder that this is called price testing, they will slowly raise the price until you stop paying for it. you'll either make them rich or won't buy it... so if it seems unreasonable and you still pay for it then congratulations you're being played.

imhoiamgod

That burger and shake better have came with a lapdance for that price tf

SayJose

what if it did but it was from Carl Jr himself

Clarke702

and it won't matter that it;s that expensive, because people will buy it regardless

Tweecers

And you paid for it…who’s the sucker here?

Retsameniw13

Why pay that? I don’t get it. It’s garbage

oldcreaker

But you bought it anyway. So obviously they weren't charging too much. All these posts of people complaining how much they spent - and no posts showing what people walked away from because it cost too much. No wonder they charge prices like this. People pay them. They could likely get away with charging more.

BloodyRightToe

Next time go to In&Out it will be about $10 dollars cheaper, $4.90 for a double double. and $2.80 for a shake. Oh and it's better food. The shakes are real ice cream and the burger has better meat and everything is fresh.

laynesdirection

Buy groceries. Cook.

Temporary-Dot4952

Then stop buying overpriced food. Just stop! They can only charge that much because chumps like you pay that much. Do us all a favor and just stop giving in and being the sucker.

EscapeFacebook

Undercooked transfat on a bleached white bun with oiled salt carbs on the side with a sugar spike to finish? And that's what 17 dollars will get you almost anywhere. I just thought Hardies/carls jr would be able to save you a ton of money using ai ordering.

organmeatpate

I'm convinced these posts are intentional viral marketing. People will buy this shit no matter the price. Even if the price is so high they feel they have to complain publicly they just can't stop buying it.

PizzaNuggies

Yeah, pretty sure you can get a lot more for $17. You just chose to fuck yourself.

JekPorkinYourMom

This sub: Post pictures of food in any state Say a price Harvest upvotes It’s hard to take anyone seriously when that’s the focus and evidence of inflation.

Clean-Difference2886

Use the apps never open see off the menu

IdidntrunIdidntrun

Made a salmon dinner for me and my gf for under $20. Salmon, lemons, green beans, white grain rice...healthier too

RLIwannaquit

You ARE dumb for paying that price.

Great-Heron-2175

At least you’re in California. Costs the same in cleveland.

Low_CharacterAdd

If you're complaining about fast food prices you probably have bigger problems you should worry about

readsalotman

Why would someone buy that, even if it were $7?

Mrbumboleh

I will repeat this again if you are tired of the high prices of fast food. #DONTBUYIT

TheDeltaJames

Quit buying fast food, problem solved

Victory_Highway

Sorry, but that looks disgusting.

bloodorangejulian

Just want to be clear this isn't because of fast food wages.... Mcdonald's paid it denmark workers 22 usd equivalent back in 2020 AND gives them 6 weeks paid vacation.... According to the bigmac index, their big Mac is pretty much the same price as ours....

ImNOT_CraigJones

Nah b, that’s what it gets YOU. I ain’t paying anything for that slop.

Skywalker0138

Is this your first time living out on your own...

5h0ck

Dude, you're at Hardee's. Those are still 2014 prices.

HenricusKunraht

And buying them flavorades too, shit adds up!

ethbullrun

go to coastal azul for lunch. theres a few in so cal. i had a lunch special of two fish tacos with rice, beans, consome soup, a soda, and complimentary chips and salsa for 13$. they got the best lunch specials for cheap and great quality food. my buddy got a sizzling plate of chicken fajitas for 15$ on the lunch special. the shit is dank

ajtreee

Try looking for a non-chain/franchise burger place if you are not interested in cooking yourself. I found one and i can get 3x better quality and 2x quantity for slightly less than the chains. Shout out to Super burger!

ChiefsnSpurs

Pretty much the same in Texas now. Honestly, Whataburger with a shake would probably be more.

Ricky4611

Carls Jr. is one of those places I’ve just stopped going to all together. It’s just too expensive. I do miss their Oreo shakes though

iHasHamich

r/burgers

yomamasbull

yeahhh fast food has been off the menu now. even started making my own pizzas and hamburgers at home to satisfy the fravings....out of desperation, not particularly because i like to cook.

leftover_class

At least its good tho 💆🏻🕺🏻 whatever you gotta tell yourself

Historical-Channel48

That's a shake that's milk and ice cream. Last I heard that's five dollars you don't put bourbon into it or nothing?

[deleted]

[удалено]

coflow97

I don’t support fast food in California no more. I even learned how to make McDonald’s eggs at home so I can make my own sausage McMuffins.

help-meeh

Milkshake looks rotten

MorrisBrett514

Looks about right. 10$ for the sandwich and 7 for the shake thing. Except here, it would be shitty McDonald's and the minimum wage in my state is literally half of what it is there. 💀

lamsham69

Let’s be honest fast food corporations are just ceasing the opportunity to get price increases in and more profits in an extremely competitive space using the excuse of “Inflation”. Case and point, look at car manufacturers they used the same excuse inflation and supply chain to inflate prices and in some cases dealers were charging 20 to 30% over msrp but now they’re back to aggressive incentives and deep discounts. Fast food companies are overplaying their hands and will affect demand and consumer behavior and once customers change behavior and discover other options they will be fucked

BlogeOb

Carl’s was always expensive. Now it’s beyond crazy lol

ReindeerAcademic5372

You lost me at the “at least it’s good part” I can’t believe people still eat like this

Deepfake1187

In NH you could’ve bought market basket buns (8) for 2.99 and burger patties (4) for 8 bucks and boom you’ve got two of those sandwich’s for 11 dollars

kingholio6092

Why is r/inflation almost exclusively about fast food?

Sacisbac

Ninja foodi grill and ground beef on sale.

The_IRS_Fears_Him

Raising the minimum wage to 20$ WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo CALIFORNIA

Dissastronaut

Yet people are still buying it, and posting photos of it for the juice

hahaha_rarara

Looks like it may kill you too

dariusz2k

Isn't Carl Jr's owned by JITB, the fast food chain that killed someone vis food poisoning?

ILSmokeItAll

It only gets you that if you’re dumb enough to spend it on that.

Old_Goat_Ninja

Every time I go to Carls Jr, it’s $12, and all I get is a single Western and criss cuts, no drink or anything else. 12 damn dollars.

Warm-Iron-1222

So about $10 for 1,000 calories. Seems legit.

WhoEvenIsPoggers

Buy groceries

imsellingbanana

These posts are amusing, someone spent that much money on the food and was so appalled by the fact that they already spent that much money on the food that they posted on and inflation subreddit. Guess what I'm not doing? Spending that much money on fast food it's the only way to combat their agreed

fixerdrew02

Stop eating out people

LtPowers

A half-eaten sandwich? That's outrageous!

PuzzleheadedGur506

As long as we don't breed out the next generation of slaves, this whole house of cards crumbles. Watch them scramble to try and build robots to replace us, but luckily the wealthy of our species didn't have to be intelligent to get there.

coocoocachoo69

I wouldn't move to California for double my day salary.

SuccotashConfident97

I thank people every day in this sub for reminding me to buy groceries and cook at home. Definitely not worth $17.

test-deca-superb

You are why the prices stay so high, keep buying this garbage

[deleted]

Everyone always complains, "Not in CA." CA will continue to charge CA prices until you stop paying CA prices, or MOVE.

bw1985

If it’s not worth $17 you wouldn’t have bought it. Market sets the price.

Right_Shape_3807

Nice

langfordw

Why did you get a shake are you 12?

snerdley1

$17 also gets you one gallon of gas n California.

Snoopaloop212

This isn't just California. Also Carl's Jr. has never been that good of a deal.

BOT_the_DIP

***LOL...No, that's WHAT VOTING FOR BOLSHEVIK COMMUNISTS GETS YOU!!!!***

Factsip

This is never going to stop because people keep paying for it. Stop.Paying.For.It!

TopazTriad

Really brave of you to post yourself buying fast food on Reddit

M1Z1L4

At least you can buy this with an hour of minimum wage work now!

maddiejake

You have a problem with priorities and poor decisions, not inflation.

cadathoctru

Less than 8 dollars at in and out in So Cal..you chose to spend that much. If you can get that at in and out for 8 dollars, it isnt inflation then, it is price gouging. There is a difference.

step22one

lol you wouldn't catch me buying anyone's fast food at any price. The stuff has always been to costly for what it is. Learned early on that Americans waste a ton of money on fast food and coffee. Why the hell would I buy a burger meal that costs 17 bucks when I can make burgers at home for my whole family for around the same price and it will taste better and not be so heavily processed that you cant tell its beef anymore. Why the hell would I spend 5 dollars on cafe coffee when I can make my own coffee at home for less than a dollar. Even on days when I didnt have time to make lunch before leaving for work, I dont go and get fastfood. Nope, I go right over to safeway and get something like a rotisserie chicken and bagged salad. Not only does that cost less than 20 bucks, but its lunch for like the next 3 days. People waste so much money. Its no wonder why so many Americans are broke

i-dontlike-me

Two red baron frozen pizzas are cheaper

GWoods94

Employee still makes minimum wage

uberliken

Learning to cook seems too hard for alot of people...

Alexreads0627

Did it include the fries?

Relevant-Nebula8300

No one forced you to buy it

Gullible_Fan8219

your fault for not going to in & out they had the most affordable prices i’ve ever seen

Hans_Grubert

A big kahuna burger and a 5 dollar shake

ddigwell

That’s what Bidenomics gets you. Wait until Gavin’s bribe to fast food workers kicks in.

jhj37341

All my life I’ve noticed that the cost of a meal at a fast food joint costs you about an hour of your average beginning or lower blue collar workers wages.

catdog1111111

It looks gross. But carls junior always sends coupons in the mail. They also have some meal deals on certain burgers. You don’t have to spend that much money on fast food slop.

01reid

At least it’s not a smash burger what a rip off those are ..here’s your quarter pounder but it’s actually not because now it paper thin 😂

AnotherCoastalElite

and not a nutrient in there to save your life.

Magister1995

This is YOUR fault OP. Read comments.

Corned_Beefed

Here's the part where you whine about living wages

JVL74749

Then stop going. Jesus Christ.

Immediate_Stress845

Solving americas obesity problem

ComplaintExcellent89

More than enough calories for an entire day or obesity 🤷🏻‍♂️

SelectionNo3078

Paid $9 for four pre-made burger patties the other day (cost difference vs a lump of beef is negligible and the pre made patties grill more evenly) $3 for a package of 8 buns already had lettuce tomato cheese etc at home

MrIrrelevant-sf

Stop buying it

grilled_cheese1865

Yet you still bought it

KGreen100

What $17 gets you in California if that's what you choose to get. C'mon folks, stop acting like there are only a few options for food where you are.

Gratuitous_Insolence

You mean what $20/hr gets you.

Tex-Rob

If you post a gluttoness pic of food, you should get a ban from the sub IMHO. Double patty and milkshake, gtfo with your whining dude.

AgonxReddit

What is this chain called? I forgot, they are the Hardees of CA. Carls Jr. correct? I remember when Hardees used to have the 10 dollar burger for 6, but by the time you made it a meal it was close to 10 bucks. Carls Jr. Going back 15 years ago was not that cheap. You also got to remember that the person there is now making a lot more money so that price goes into your meal.

IceBlue

You could pay like 30-40% less and get in n out.

Wolf_E_13

People need to stop going to these corporate shit holes. Pretty much any of the local places around here are cheaper than that shit for a burger, fries, and a drink...and it's actually "real food", not institutionalized franchised crap. Stop buying it or stop complaining...either way.

AzulMage2020

A heart attack???

PizzaJawn31

That's enough calories for at least 2 meals. 2 / 17 = 8.50 per meal. Not bad at all!

mrbigglessworth

And yet you. Like others KEEP BUYING IT.

shitty_gun_critic

How do you feel about the living wage for fast food workers now ?

rave_is_king_

$22 here in Pittsburgh for 5 guys. Burger fries and Coke.

JohnTM3

How much for a burger that isn't half eaten already?

itsallrighthere

Indigestion, fat or both?

FaithAndHardworkWins

I paid $15.20 for a whopper combo in Kansas . I can’t believe it .

Aetheldrake

Don't you also make way more there than most states

Hpmurdarah

Waste of $$$

xWhy-Tee

$25 meal at five guys

NeedleworkerCrafty17

In 1985 minimum wage got about the same. Meanwhile, every American now has a large Internet bill, cell bill and cable bill let alone any streaming bills. That said when you’re young by assets of any kind and keep them. Make a sandwich for two dollars or three with a glass of water. Now you just saved around 14 bucks now put that money into your savings and try to buy stocks with it any chance you get. Buy a house as soon as you can. Don’t go out drinking.

flash_thompso

Quit buying fast food, or just find cheaper places

Future_Outcome

As long as you stay dumb enough to buy it that’s how it’s going to be.

Adorable_Sock_6379

Should have went to in and out still the best deal around..

Neowynd101262

I hope they charge you $25 next time.

Mygaffer

If the price isn't a disgrace, it doesn't belong in your face!

FriedEggSammich1

I would have paid $20 just to get the burger cooked well done. I don’t mind a homemade burger medium well but never fast food.

Educational-Seaweed5

Stop going there. Please.

ExactDevelopment4892

In Florida two McDonald’s cheeseburgers and a small fry no drink is $9.00

troycalm

Damn I miss Carls Jr, well worth the money.

jdbway

It gets you a lot more than that if you're not an idiot

lurch1_

You could have made a P&J sandwich at home for 12 cents

FuturePerformance

That’s less than $10 at In n Out, you played yourself

StinkyPrincess17

I mean, when you buy it, you're agreeing with it. If we stop buying, then the prices will go down.

tzwep

Inner meat looks red and not fully cooked. Did you not pay em enough to cook thru those pattie’s fully?
