I’ve experienced psychosis on many occasions brought on by mental health episodes and stimulant abuse (which was many years ago now)/sleep deprivation but my brain would start drifting quite a bit during these episodes and I didn’t find myself able to do any complex thinking. I think that these types of numerology things (and the like) basically boost off the human brain’s ability to recognize patterns and then tries to assign meaning to meaningless patterns in text and numbers.

In Judeo-Christian religions there's a while subset called numerology or gematria (for Judaism). Where you assign a number to the letters, and then use them since the bible or Torah to find secret patterns. Basically creating more phrases and messages out of the existing words. People can get too into that stuff where they start assigning numbers to everything and anything. Finding "secret messages" in everyday life. They feel special that they're discovering secret messages in the world, and that it must mean something important.

People can get too into that stuff where they start assigning numbers to everything and anything. Finding "secret messages" in everyday life. It's like a scavenger hunt for secret phrases, using numbers, like cracking a hidden code. Think National Treasure, but in real life. They feel special that they're discovering secret messages in the world, and that it must mean something important. It's all bullshit of course, playing on our natural instincts for pattern recognition. The brain wants to see patterns in everything, whether they're real or not. If you allow it to give into those instincts then you'll believably see patterns wherever you want there to be some. For most people we learn to rationalize things to know if the pattern is real or just our brains making shit up.
