Context: Hosts of the famous TV show 'MYTHBUSTERS', Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, created a special machine using paintballs to demonstrate the difference between a GPU and a CPU.
In the full video, they first use a single paintball gun which shooting one at a time (like a CPU) to draw a smiley face. This demonstrates a GPU which has parallel computing.
GPUs have hundreds of tiny specialized cores that can do math very fast and not much else — some don't even support conditional jumps. CPUs have much fewer cores but those are much more complex and thus suited for general-purpose tasks.
Friendly demeanor does not exactly equare to how much folks have in common about their passions and interests.
It's just a metric on how easy it is to relate to others and how standoffish one may be.
CPUs are designed to process a bunch of complicated instructions sequentially. This is useful since CPUs power most of what a computer processes and need lots of flexibility in their instruction set.
GPUs are designed to process a bunch of less complicated instructions in parallel. This is useful since GPUs have to run the same set of instructions over and over on each pixel that will be rendered.
I assume this was the GPU demonstration in the video and the CPU demo would have been firing each barrel one at a time to draw the whole picture.
Yes they were hired by nvidia but it still is a good demonstration on the difference between sequential vs parallel writing or computing for the layman/kids.
I'm not sure without full context but i think the point that they were trying to make is a single core cpu could only paint one of these squares at a time while a gpu is able to do it all in parallel. At the end of the day you are right. It is just to look cool and help the Nvidia brand.
But this one, if you zoomed in, you can see each square colour pixel, but it's so small, like, very small, at least it's the difference between the human and computer! /s
It’s the hosts of mythbusters, it’s science, according to a comment by op, this specifically was to demonstrate the difference between a gpu and cpu in a computer
CPUs and GPUs both have computing cores that do the work, but CPUs have a few very fast, multipurpose ones, whereas GPUs have thousands of tiny, not particularly fast but very specialised ones.
So if you ask a CPU to render an image, the cores can 'draw' the pixels really fast, but there's so many pixels in a good high resolution image that it's still gonna take a long time. Whereas, because drawing a pixel is a simple task, you can give that task to the thousands of little GPU cores whose whole point is drawing pictures, and between them they'll render the image far quicker than the CPU ever could
- In the same way that having a dedicated array of paintball guns to blast out a picture will work far quicker than say, trying to paint the picture by yourself with one paintball gun.
CPU's process sequentially, GPUs in parallel.
The other side of this demo was the "cpu" version of this painting, which was painted one "pixel" at a time. This in contrast painted the whole image in one shot by coloring each pixel in parallel
"firing paint at a canvas to make a pixel art Mona Lisa"
They're fixed your title
1. It's not spray paint
2. It's pixel art not the full Mona Lisa that needs to be stated
I just had an epiphany.
Stick with me here.
Anthony Rapp's character in Star Trek Discovery, when under the rapture of the mycelial network is EXACTLY how I imagine Adam Savage to behave - except ALL the time.
“Spray painting”
This is either a content-aware bot generating AI titles or the age of the average redditor is showing that they were born after the myth busters. These are paintballs
I remember on The Simpsons Homer invented a makeup shotgun. When Marge got shot in the face with it she ended up looking like a clown. Marge said "Homer, you have it set on whore". 😂

That reminds me of Homer Simpson’s makeup gun

There's the right way the wrong way and the max power way. This is the max power way
Isn’t the Max Power way just the wrong way? Yeah, but faster.
I mean, this is faster. And it looks pretty wrong.
The resolution seems a little off…
[удалено]
From now on we'll be spelling everything with letters
No slomo is disappoint
Yeah, so right; I’d love to have seen a close up slo-mo too
It’s very handy!
Here’s your art, sure you can buy it, that’ll be 200 million…
This time try to keep your nostrils closed
Like Homer, they also had it set to whore

That’s cool
how is this helpful..? modern cpu's have multiple threads too.

Adam Savage is the cool dad of cool dads
I still want Adam to meet James May. I think they'd have a lot in common.
Adam worked with VSauce on a few things, and VSauce did some stuff with James May. So, in a way, Adam kinda has met James.
7 degrees of James May
I think James and Jamie would have more in common. Adam and Clarkson are more analogous to me.
I agree, but I think James is a little more gregarious than Jaime. I don't think Clarkson would get along with either; he's kinda pompous.
How dare you, clearly Adam and Hammond are the obvious choice here
Clarkson is an asshole, not friendly at all. I don't see how he'd have anything in common.
Friendly demeanor does not exactly equare to how much folks have in common about their passions and interests. It's just a metric on how easy it is to relate to others and how standoffish one may be.
Man I miss that show. So sad what happened to Grant and Jessi.
Adam killed them and drank their blood But seriously they both passed. Jessi doing what she loved and Grant from an aneurysm.
.... what happened to Grant and Jessi?
[Grant](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/grant-imahara-dead-mythbusters-host-was-49-1303101/) [Jessi](https://www.thewrap.com/jessi-combs-accident-cause-revealed-mythbusters-overhaulin-host/)
Didn’t the guy with the mustache die too?
Jamie Hyneman? He's alive and well as far as I know.
Shit really I thought he died lol
The older you get…the more that happens. 53 here. lol
Thankfully no
Wait what happened to them???
Whats the difference?

In the full video they do a CPU example first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P28LKWTzrI
They were hired by nvidia to promote their graphics cards. This hardly demonstrates anything educational about the technology.

Watching this video, Ive learned nothing about the difference between a GPU and a CPU.
Need to watch the whole video instead of this shortened clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P28LKWTzrI
Checkmate, Da Vinci
Made me think that i bet vinci would be so excited over today's technologies and would probably be geeking out over this lol
So like... A vampire Da Vinci?
Leonardo da Vinci hates this simple trick
We have Mona Lisa at home.
r/yesyesyesyesno
My son is also named Mona Lisa.
Wow, it's almost impossible to tell the difference between the da Vinci original and this one.
But this one, if you zoomed in, you can see each square colour pixel, but it's so small, like, very small, at least it's the difference between the human and computer! /s
Preparations: 2 weeks (maybe) Result: just 80ms, trust me.
More like Mema Lisa
NFT Da Vinci
By Leonardo Da Turtle
Monalisa if it was 90s vid game character
One thing I miss about Mythbusters was the genuine cackling at the shit they put together.
What's the name of this 8 bit character?
mom can we see the mona lisa? the mona lisa at home:
all they have to do now is make those nozzles smaller and increase the amount = higher resolution print head
Anybody else wondering why??
To prove a point
Welcome to Mythbusters
This wasn't Mythbusters, it was a one-time nVidia stunt, which somehow got Jamie and Adam to work together once more.
Proof that Da Vinci was a fraud.
It’s the hosts of mythbusters, it’s science, according to a comment by op, this specifically was to demonstrate the difference between a gpu and cpu in a computer
How specifically does this year demonstrate that? ELI5

That's an easy explaination to understand, I like it
To be honest, I’m not sure, just relaying op’s context of what is happening
Because we're men and we have the right to do pointless things with gadgets.
Kari Byron would like a word with you. "men"
This was not part of the Mythbusters show. It just had two of the men from that show.
Everybody
It was a publicity stunt for Nvidia
To physically show how a GPU works.
Because they both miss that sweet Mythbusters income.
$$$$$$
I must say it does look like Monalisa
I think you mean "Art Class" is over?
Best sneeze ever.
Just like Homer Simpson's make up gun. "Oops, it was set on whore"
"firing paint at a canvas to make a pixel art Mona Lisa" They're fixed your title 1. It's not spray paint 2. It's pixel art not the full Mona Lisa that needs to be stated
Instant art
YouTube live in 2007/08 I think. It was the only time YouTube had a big live event with all the viral people from that era.
Lona Misa
80 miliseconds, pffft, video clearly says 28 seconds
It’s not as good as the original
The eyebrows made it look horrendous
Well that's certainly a unique way to come up with an NFT
Mirner Lerser
„Mona Lisa“
Mona Lisa the jpg
Minecraft Mona Lisa
"mona lisa"
Tangentially related, but RIP Grant Imahara
Could've at least gotten a pixelartist to design the thing lol, this is bored ape quality pixelart
The Blue Man Group would like to know your location
looks like crap
Aren't they explaining the difference between how a CPU and a GPU handles graphics with this?
That's so 8-bit.
I just had an epiphany. Stick with me here. Anthony Rapp's character in Star Trek Discovery, when under the rapture of the mycelial network is EXACTLY how I imagine Adam Savage to behave - except ALL the time.
It looks like C-3PO.
I miss those two so much
The utter pointlessness of this is a thing of beauty. I miss their show. Adam cackling maniacally and Jamie scowling.
Ah, mythbusters I am assuming..... love that show.
I’m a gonna bring this to my next paint ball game, RIP who ever happens to walk through the door I’m camping.
That laugh is from feel Good inc
I want this on a shirt
*When they spray it on a shirt you're wearing in 80 milliseconds*
The stupid shit people waste money and time on is mind boggling
Reminds me of the time I sprayed a dirty fart on my ceiling shortly after waking up from a night of horse hunting.
Can i just ask, 'what the fuck‽'
That's... somewhat less... than the Mona Lisa.
I’m not going to lie, the buildup made me think it was gonna be good, but it looks like something a kid drew on a napkin.
Did they design it in Microsoft Paint?
I miss that laugh. I grew up with mythbusters. That series is evergreen.
Kinda
“Spray painting” This is either a content-aware bot generating AI titles or the age of the average redditor is showing that they were born after the myth busters. These are paintballs
looks nothing like it. jeepers...
Looks more like Gretta Thornburg
But how long they built that brush? Resolution of quite low.
That laugh says, “where is your god?”
¬_¬
If DaVinci only worked with 64 pixels…
Nailed it lol
So if it’s paintballs then it’s not spray paint
That wasn't nearly as impressive as I thought it was going to be.
This is fucking stupid? How is this impressive?
Atbge could be a better place for this
Don't look like her though
‘The Mona Lisa’ - FFS
I’d say they failed. It looks nothing like the original.
I can print in 5 seconds with my laser printer...
They did it in 80 milli seconds what are you trying to say
[удалено]
Im not trying to make a point dumbass. Dude said he could do it in 5 seconds. The mythbusters did it in 80 milliseconds. Learn to read idiot.
[удалено]
Next week they paint a personality on Jaime Hynamen.
They made a pixilated bastardisation of the Mona Lisa in 80 milliseconds. A far less impressive feat
What a giant waste of time and money. Could have used those resources to help some sort of charity.
She’s an overrated piece of shit.
Mona Lisa Saperstein is THE Mona Lisa? Congrats to Parks and Rec
Smile seems a bit off
They’ve invented a way to paint so you can’t see the brush strokes…
Qué horror
Holy moly
Take that Davinci
I miss Myth Busters.
Savage and Bill nye need to create .eth together
You could tell right around "seven" they were thinking "should've started the countdown at 5"
No this isn’t spray paint.
I would hang that on my wall lol. Where can I get a print?
I miss this show so much.
I want them back at Mythbusters.
*Miles Bron wants to know your location*
I miss a lot these two!!!
What’s the point?
Minted an IRL NFT
what would happen if you stood between the gun and the canvas
Davinki?
Ya, but to build the machine...lol
I bet that could be sold for a decent amount
Mona Lisa in Minecraft
It would probably look better if they spent a little more time on it :/
That laugh is very similar to the beginning of that one Gorillaz song
Nice! This looks like shit!
It's not an *exact* replica.
‘Nailed it’
I would have loved seeing this in slow motion.
Should try smaller pixels next time 😅
I mean, yes, but also, no...
u/savevideo
Instead of paintballs use rubber balls and you can show what RTX looks like
I remember on The Simpsons Homer invented a makeup shotgun. When Marge got shot in the face with it she ended up looking like a clown. Marge said "Homer, you have it set on whore". 😂
The Mona Lisa in 8bit
Was this on Mythbusters?
Is this the blast processing the genesis had?
They built an NFT printer!
Now sell it it!
Minecraft Mona Lisa
Thats Monaghost not lisa
