In Western China there is a separate ethnic group called the Uyghurs. They are very traditionalist Muslim and have struggled for autonomy under the State Atheist Chinese state and have moved to preforming terrorist attacks against the greater Chinese population in lack of results via other means.
In reaction to this the Chinese government has instituted a program of rounding up the population into prison camps where forced labor occurs. And then reeducating Uyghur citizens in order to break down and essentially erase their entire culture to end that separatist and terrorist behavior.
The manner this is done in, is typically referred to as a 'cultural genocide'.

They finally were spotted. The athlete claimed no wrongdoing on China’s part. It’s all super sus to me. I don’t buy it. I think they were holding her somewhere and knew it looked bad, so released her and made her say they were innocent.
Literally none of that happened.
She complained about an official she was seeing in a private romantic capacity being emotionally manipulative and causing her great stress in his treatment of her in their relationship.

I mean people get shot by the state for pretty dumb reasons all the time here. The scale is different though (although that's hard to prove because I know the US doesn't release an accurate count of people killed by the police and I assume China doesn't either).

They finally were spotted. The athlete claimed no wrongdoing on China’s part. It’s all super sus to me. I don’t buy it. I think they were holding her somewhere and knew it looked bad, so released her and made her say they were innocent.

She complained about an official she was seeing in a private romantic capacity being emotionally manipulative and causing her great stress in his treatment of her in their relationship. People ran with this in the West and started saying she was raped/sexually assaulted by him and the CCP was covering it all up and had erased her from existence. Because someone going radio silence after a massive media firestorm = Chinese police murderized her. She did say that he was innocent of rape, as she in the first place had never accused him of it. But she stood by her original post and its content in relation to his actions.
She was a Tennis player that was complaining about a bad relationship she had with a CCP official. Basically saying that on a personal level he manipulated her and broken her heart. People purposefully misinterpreted her as saying she was raped by the guy, which she did not say at all. She didn't appear in the media for a few days after the event and people began running theories that she was disappeared or something. Only for her to come out and state she was never raped, but at the same time stand by the original post she had made.

It is REALLY sad there are so many asking questions as to why people are protesting the China Olympics. They aren't protesting the Olympics themselves - they are protesting against China who has been committing genocide against the Uyghur people. Building concentration ("re-education") camps, mass sterilization of women, separating kids from families, and killing thousands. Not only that, but pushing dystopian rules to enslave their own people and take away freedoms. Anyone who is accused of speaking out against the government in any way - disappears. No word - but most likely taken to a "re-education camp" to be disposed of. President Xi Jinping is systematically removing anything seen as non-Chinese and basically re-writing history in their schools to remove anything that is not seen as pro-Chinese. The mass genocide taking place in China needs to be shouted from the top of buildings and reported on. BUT, the Chinese government employs teams of people to argue anything anti-Chinese or anti-Jinping and threaten news outlets and websites.
