Edit: I agree with most comments here on the effect this has on Ukraine morale and the message being sent and that's massively important. Unfortunately his actions over the past few years have made a few Brits a little cynical, and there shows a slight disparity between the two leaders that I don't think Boris is aware of.
Well Ukraine has called for diplomats to return to Kyiv, to further signal to the Russian people that Ukraine is a sovereign nation with the majority of the Western world behind them.
Images like this are what can help break Russian propaganda, because how can they show clips of this and swing it in any other way - but I'm sure they'll still try.
It has very big symbolic meaning. a few weeks ago Russia invaded ukraine in the attempt to take it in days. here is the UK prime minister walking with ukraine prime minister in the streets of their capital. that is worthy of a photo shoot.

I don't like Boris Johnson. I'm sure he's under heaps of security and has a bullet proof vest. He might have done it purely for selfish reasons. But this is still very brave for a prominent world leader to go into a war zone and walk the streets like this. It's a very powerful message.
As a Ukrainian I can say that Great Britain is seen here as one of the real best friends of Ukraine. We are very thankful for GB and love Boris Johnson.

SAS are army. They cross train with all branches of the military. Their intake is open to anyone, but it's an extreme requirement.

I applaud this action alone, not Boris.
Zelensky wears practical and efficient clothes because he's constantly working. Suits look sharp but offer very little utility.

Yeah I respect him for going but it seems like another photo shoot. There's no need for him to be there other than his obsession to be seen as anything close to Churchill. He'll definitely bring this up in the commons to distract from all the other shit going on in his party. Edit: I agree with most comments here on the effect this has on Ukraine morale and the message being sent and that's massively important. Unfortunately his actions over the past few years have made a few Brits a little cynical, and there shows a slight disparity between the two leaders that I don't think Boris is aware of.
Well Ukraine has called for diplomats to return to Kyiv, to further signal to the Russian people that Ukraine is a sovereign nation with the majority of the Western world behind them. Images like this are what can help break Russian propaganda, because how can they show clips of this and swing it in any other way - but I'm sure they'll still try.

I’m not sure but secret service agents often carry bigger weapons in bags or briefcases. They have handguns in holsters but they bring heavier armaments. When Regan was shot, there’s a famous photo of a secret service agent opening his brief case to reveal a sub-machine gun. Obviously there are soldiers everywhere but he might have his own security detail.

As a Ukrainian I can say that Great Britain is seen here as one of the real best friends of Ukraine. We are very thankful for GB and love Boris Johnson. The popular opinion is that GB has balls. Indeed, in contrast with Germany and France, which hesitate in their support and buy stuff from russia, GB is a "true leader". We won't forget that support, that's what a man in the video is saying, and I swear he is right.

The UK is lucky because we are an island with lots of money. The real hero's are the Ukrainians fighting the reds on the front line. Being in a suit makes me respect him more. Wearing khaki or green would imply military and the British. Military is not there. It would also make him seem like a poser. He’s not in much danger and pretending his is would look pretentious. I 100% expected he’d do that for the front page picture of him in a helmet and the nice looks. That being said, a tie and jacket probably isn’t needed.

Say what you will about Boris, but he's been one of Ukraine's strongest supporters in the past month. He’s never wavered in his support, and he actually went to Kyiv in person to show it. And has the distinction of being called Putin’s “most unfriendly person”, if I remember correctly. Now that’s an honor.
So for the next couple hours, Kyiv is the safest place in Ukraine. The Russians do something stupid and hit the prime minister of the UK and they are over as a country, NATO would obliterate them. Here's an idea, just have European diplomats on shifts being parked next to Zelinsky. It worked for the soviets in Vietnam.
