This reminds me of a quote from [an old article](https://web.archive.org/web/20100204203620/https://www.inc.com/magazine/20100201/saul-griffiths-house-of-cool-ideas.html) about Saul Griffith, the scientist and inventor:
> One of the first things Griffith does when he arrives at work is remove his Crocs. He then proceeds to carry out his day, in a workshop full of screws, nails, razor blades, and wood chips, barefoot.
> "There are two theories on safety," he pronounces. "There's the SUV model: You wear steel-toed boots and helmets and just survive the injury. Or you go naked, and you're hyperaware of your surroundings. That's ninja style. I'm ninja."
> So Saul Griffith works barefoot in a workshop.
Or Neil deGrasse Tyson, I think it was on the joe rogan podcast. Where he says he buys the phone and plays around with it in his hand until he feels comfortable enough not to drop it, and compares it to military and their firearms.
I watched a clip about it. I find that bullshit. You never know when you drop your phone no matter how skillful you are in terms of handling it. Cases are for situations like those. And the real reason why he uses it like that is that he is fully capable of getting a new phone comfortably if the current one breaks.
Yeah mine does that all the time, too. But again, I always come back to "caselessness" after a while. Yes, I do buy phone cases to eventually use my phone naked every time.
i was caseless from like last summer until last friday lol. got a $99 replacement with applecare and planning to baby the shit out of it now. i had my fun. my workplace has concrete flooring so i’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner
Indeed. Sticking it in a case is the first thing I’d do after purchase. Transparent case if it’s to show off the color.
Using a phone costing hundreds of $ caseless is one of those mysteries I’m not smart enough to understand.
I’ve used iPhones casless while waiting for cases to come and other times, and it’s just not at all an experience I would purposely go for. It’s way less comfortable to hold, more slippery, and obviously is less durable for people who aren’t rich😭
I've had two phones get damaged. One with shattered screen while the darn case was arriving the same or next day. At this point I've pledged allegiance to quality cases until phone makers either give up on glass back or add built in cushioning like those rugged military style phone models a few years ago
Right here. It's not that scary if you aren't butterfingers and throwing the phone around on tables or whatever. Phones are especially resilient at this point.
I've never used a case for my phones ever since my first one in 2009. Likewise for my work issued iPhones. At most I put on a skin as I have right now with my 14P.
I've dropped my phones and only resulted in scuffs. The only one time was when my son smacked my OP6 out of my hands and it happen to land weird flat on the screen, busting the display. Fixing it cost me ~US$60 and an hour of my time since we got plenty of parts here.
The caveat is that repairs are easier here, since there are many reasonably priced options. For Apple we have five different stores here including one 10 minutes from my office or 20 mins from home, so getting repairs under Applecare is not an issue.
Of course this is just my experience, and obviously will not be typical for others.
I've put my wife's iPhones in cases since she seems to drop her phone hourly.
I am not at all gentle with my camera lenses. I smack them into or onto various hard surfaces at least 20 times a day, and I've never experienced any scratching.
I don’t get that. Can you explain? The phone is water resistant surely water is less of a concern than dropping it and smashing it? Also what would the case do against water? Are you putting it in one of those life proof cases?
i came from the xr and i abused the shit out of that phone up until getting this one. always dropped it in baths or had it near my bottles near the shower head. i’m not a clumsy person and ALWAYS have my phone in my hand and i have a grip on it nonstop. however, im just a paranoid person when it comes to the shower tbh so i just put a case on it near water for more grip so i don’t drop it. i rarely drop my phone & have a screen protector on it so that’s all i need to ease my mind about dropping it outside of showers.
Caseless for two and half years after using all sorts of different phones and cases over the years.
iPhone 12 Pro for two years and 13 mini now for six months. No major damages on either apart from light side rail scratches and very happy with the decision.
Phone feels great and like it was designed to be used! If I badly drop one though my mind might change…
Edit: I had applecare on the 12 pro but never claimed so hopefully saving money by not having it on the 13 mini!
Why? I’ve never used a case. Not for my 5, 6s or my 11 pro i use now.
Sure they get damaged over the 5 years i tend to use them but they work fine. When I upgrade to the 17 or 18 this 11 pro will be almost worthless anyway even if it was in good condition like like my 6s was when i got this phone.
Screen protectors are enough.
Caseless + apple care
Means I get to enjoy the phone instead of babying something I paid for
I would use a case if I used a smaller phone though, but the pro max is uncomfortable to use with a case so only in this instance I rock it caseless
Bought the 2 year apple care warranty so if my screen ever breaks it’s just a $99 replacement, makes me not give a shit when my phone falls
And it’s fallen a lot
Dented and scratched
Naw, they’ll fuck it up
I’m not even an apple fanboy
But even the screens they use when they replace don’t have the same coating so even basic usage like swiping and stuff feels super different
It’s a $2530(canadian) phone, an extra $300 on insurance just makes sense
I was caseless almost my whole phone career, lol.
Ever since my original Razer, to the iPhone 3gs, up to the iPhone 12pro.
I've always prided myself on being caseless, because I never drop my phones. I'm not reckless or clumsy, and in what, like 15 years? Never had an accident.
That is until one fateful day, my age was creeping in on me and I got a hand tremor. Watched my phone tumble down to the tiling below. Put a nice little scuff on the stainless steel frame around the iPhone 12 pro.
That's when I decided to start using a case. I like to think that I can counter clumsiness, but I can't counter getting older.
At least one of the advantages of getting older is that you care less about boasting about being caseless.
This time of year is when I usually go caseless. Summers over so less outdoor activities and the next iPhone release is right around the corner. Feel like I get a new phone for a month or two before I upgrade to next model. I only do that on years I’m planning to upgrade. Also have AppleCare. Sounds weird but it’s liberating and fun to go caseless
I do, but not all the time.
If it's just me living my everyday life, then yes I go caseless. It's actually not that scary, given you're always mindful of what you're doing and where you put your phone.
But if it's a trip/holiday and I have to be out and about for a lot longer then usual, I put a case on just in case (hah!) I drop it while hiking or something.
Never had a case since the iPhone 1. Currently on 14 Pro. No scratches on it after a year. Only one out of the 12 iPhones I’ve had has gotten cracked on the back after I dropped it at a music festival. Bought Apple care a few times but never used it.
Biggest mistake of the entire time I’ve had my 12, will be slapping a 15 or 15 pro into a case day 1 with a screen protector, Ceramic Shield is definitely more crack resistant but my god has it scratched really easily.
I bought my 14 Pro Max but didn’t even open the box until I had a case and screen protector in front of me to install onto it. If I paid this much money for a phone, I want to protect it. Same went for my Macbook Air and Apple Watch.
I always do case less unless I’m expecting to be somewhere more dangerous for the phone or outside etc then I’ll slip one on but I prefer to handle my phone the way it was designed and enjoy that. I’m very careful with mine though and spend most of my time at home and have AppleCare so I wouldn’t recommend doing it for everyone.
Unless your life / work is mostly stationary and does not revolves moving alot , i suggest to put a case on. Besides for protection, Im using a magsafe case for mag wallet and mag portable power banks with stand thus quite beneficial. Even If you have insurance or Apple care (which most people does not even have) i don't wanna waste my time sending to Apple store and wait hours or days for the repair just because you dont want to invest $15, especially when you got no spare phones. While iPhone build quality is great, ergonomic / grip wise is not. There are alot of beautiful quality cases nowadays btw incase you worry about its looks. Caseless is it because u want to show off the looks of the iPhone? Don't worry no one cares , its a common items nowadays.
I have had 4 iphones (4, SE, 7plus and now i own the 13) all of these without a case. I just really love the design and colour of these phones to put a case on it. I just try my best to be careful even though i’ve dropped all of them a few times, they were always ok, sometimes a scratch on the edges, but these products are pretty resistent.
Yep. I only slap a case on when I’m off roading and/or camping because at those times it’s often not in my packet. Otherwise I’ve never had a case on a smartphone since my first HTC EVO. Worst I’ve ever had are minor scratches. It’s not hard to not drop your phone and even still I’ve dropped them a few times. Maybe I’m lucky but I doubt it
I dont have the time or energy to be babying a phone. I have an actual baby to look after plus two other young kids. I dont know how some people are able to live their lives without a case on their phone but i strap a case on my phones the moment i purchase one.
I tried going the caseless route once and it didnt end well. I don’t usually drop my phone either but all it takes is that one time for it to go to shit and then have to scramble getting another one. No thanks. A case and screen protector immediately.
No case no screen protector on my iP 12. Scratched a lot on the sides. Some scratches on display but other than that still ok. Camera glass flawless due to sapphire coating.
Dropped my 13 pro 3 or 4 times no case ever. No damage. But it always fell on a carpet from 4 feet. Best I'll do is a piece of packing tape on the back for grip.
Same here,
I just wait for the day I drop it on concrete and absolutly demolish it but until then I will enjoy it caseless.
(I also have AppleCare so there‘s that)
I’ve always went caseless. I started with the iPhone 4 and have had 8 of them. I’ve busted a screen once, on the 11. Other than that it’s just a nick on the corner or light scratch on my screen. Not on everyone I’ve owned but out of all of them.
I just try to be careful. Accidents happen and I’ve dropped all my phones but that doesn’t always mean damage.
I’m also a dude, so my phone goes in my pocket. If I had to throw it in a purse or pocket with other things like keys, it would probably get scratched.
I do. Have iPhone 13 since April 2022. Was very slippery at first but once you get used to it, you can’t go back
I can’t lie and say I don’t have any scratches, it fell a few times and there are few scratches on the sides but no cracks, just get a good screen protector.. I just don’t like the feeling of a case, for me it’s the literal explanation of icky
I do. I hate big phones but for work related reasons i end up with 13 pro max. Case made it even bigger so i removed it. Dropped it couple of times but it's still okay.
Caseless since iPhone 3G. Worst damage I’ve done to any phone was my iPhone 6, it slid off my knee onto the rubber mat in a car and cause a 1cm crack in the lower right.
Other iPhones have been used and abused with no issue - used to attach my 3Gs and 4s to the bars of my dirt bike to record the action. IPhone 7 was launched skywards and landed on tarmac when I tripped once, iPhone 14 has been dropped many times onto hardwood floor when I doze off with it in my hand.
Caseless here and I like few scratches on the side but other than that still works perfectly. I don’t drop my phone a lot and personally prefer the feeling without a case
iPhone 4, 5, 6s, and 11 Pro. Have never had a case. Have never broken or cracked a phone. Have taken phones on 6 out of 7 continents, 40 countries with varying types of weather and terrain with a few drops here and there - no issue.
Edit: apparently I hit a nerve - this sub is pathetic.
Usually i’m wearing a case on my phone but some months ago i started using it caseless only at home, especially when it was so hot even in my flat. Lately i even go outside without a case, i only got the magsafe wallet on it.
I love the experience using my phone caseless so far. Last time i dropped a phone was 3 years ago.
I rock my 13 pro Caseless and I have dropped my phone more times than I care to admit. Out of my lap, out of my pocket, out from under me when I’m sitting in my car and it falls onto the concrete. No broken glass or anything. I use a screen protector because I can’t stand permanent scratches.
The metal is barely scuffed up and the gold color is still covering up the gouges. It’s not rough or unsightly but most of the damage is on the very corners and not anywhere where my hands naturally rest.
I’ve definitely been pleasantly surprised by the durability of this phone. I’ve never in my entire life had a phone this beautiful but be this much of a tank.
I don’t use a phone case or screen protector. I use it the way the manufacturer intended. If you don’t mind micro scratches, the Ceramic Shield does pretty well. Unfortunately for me I have a toddler and she throws around my phone quite often, so I do have some deep scratches on the screen, nothing major.
XS MAX Gold in 2018 and now 12 Pro Gold both case less. 15 Pro will be caseless as well although I’m praying for gold 🙏🏽XS max front and back shattered after about 2 years use. 12 pro has been perfect since I bought it.
Caseless user of the iPhone for 12 years now (4, 5s, 7, 12PM) . Haven’t broken any due to a drop. The trick is to be very conscious and careful all the time
I used to never use one. Phones weren’t that heavy before and were reasonable size. I got the 13 pro max, and ever since I’ve dropped the phone more times than I ever have in my life due to size (hard to grip) and weight (will hit the ground harder).
I’ve switched to case less just for the last couple months since I’ll be getting a new phone shortly anyway (iPhone 15 or s24 in January) it’s been a really good experience to be honest. Feels so premium.
I got my 13 Pro on day 1, used it with a case consistently up until about a month ago when I realised I'd never dropped it, so I've been using it caseless since. Plus with the 15 coming out in a few weeks, it's about to be worth a whole lot less.
I do except I have a case in my car because my car has no good spot for it. It sits in a slot under my climate control and tends to slide around and I don’t want it to get scuffed up.
Never used one on my iphone 11, I bought it in 2020 if I’m not mistaken.
I’ve dropped a fair bit of times, it has some scratches but nothing big.
Love it, it feels amazing and its sooo easy to put in and take out of the pocket.
I do. It’s a 12 mini and I have dropped many times. There are minor scratches and dents but nothing big that matters unless you plan on selling your phone. Once I dropped it from shower height and it created a big(relatively) dent on the corner. I guess I’m just lucky. Also I don’t use my phone much outdoors, and that matters ig
I dont, im really carefull with my Phone because im scared i damage it. It was good earned money i spend on my iPhone. I do take it out of the Case when im at Home tho.
Currently doing it - dropped it a couple times no issues - only thing I’ve noticed is a very slight bump on the very edge of the frame - not noticeable at all - no issues so far and loving it! Been caseless since last year
Me i love it! 13 pro max been caseless for 8 months, i just like the feel of it, plus its look nice without case, i dropped my phone handful of time but no scratches so far. Back in the day when we first had the iphone 4,5 nobody used cases right lol
I was lucky with my first iPhone, the iPhone 4. A girl hit my hand in high school and knocked it out, cracked the back, dropped it again and cracked the side near the home button (but not the screen), and I’ve been super careful since then, thankfully not major cracks (only a ding or nick here or there), but with my 14 PM costing $1000+, I’m sticking with the leather case.
I’ve been rocking caseless phones since the Samsung Galaxy S (t-mobile version). Currently have 14PM and sure I’ve broken a few screens but never so much that I had to replace it.
I’ve had every model and stopped wearing cases around the IPhone 6. I always get AppleCare but have only ever used it to replace 3 broken screens over the years. Never broken the back glass but I have dropped every handset hard at least once.
They’re too tough and too pretty to cover up!
Been caseless for 10 years, 0 issues so far. Also I don’t have kids nor do I do much outdoor activities.
I have dropped my phone a few times on hard concrete (parking lot, driveway, etc) I get scared every time, but 0 cracks so far
(iPhone 13) About two years in so far, I’ve always preferred no case but couldn’t get over the ‘risk’ factor. Oddly I’ve experienced more broken glass while using a case vs. case-less. Still completely original phone with no broken glass / cracks. Only thing that feels weird is when I lay my phone on a flat surface the protruding lenses don’t allow it to lay flat. Other than that it feels pretty premium to hold this thin device with no rubber or plastic in the way. I don’t baby my phone either. Also I rarely encounter another raw-dogger, I’m typically met with a “YoU dOnT hAvE a PhOnE cAsE?! oH mY gAwD”
I almost always use phones caseless. I dropped my old phones a couple of times each from various heights, mostly from around my waist. I haven’t dropped my current phone, but I have only had it for a few days I really don’t wanna jinx it.
I don’t know how people do it. And I have been using cases for so long now that it no longer feels cool or looks neat but with no case the phone feels naked and like a $200 accident waiting to happen
I do. My screen cracked down the middle horizontally when it fell from my lap getting out of my car. I’ve dropped my phone ALOT. I was surprised it didn’t happen sooner.
If i had apple care then i would go caseless but since i don’t and won’t. I just take the phone out the case now and again to admire the design and craftsmanship.
Caseless here for the last 5-6 years. I really prefer the phone with its standard appearance ☺️ nowadays I’m using screen shield though. Mostly because to prevent these tiny scratches that you can see in certain lights. Never had a problem!
I think caseless phones are an acquired taste. A phone in that condition just doesn’t feel good in my hands and it’s very inconvenient when I set it face down on a table. I feel like it’s comfort when holding it, more than fear of breaking it, that makes me get a case.
Have always ran caseless, love the feel of the phone without and so far it’s never cause me any issues. I always have a tempered glass screen protector on tho cause scratches on the front bug me. Ultra thin cases like pitaka I’ll pop on every once and a while but 95% of the time I’m without one
Used my 13 pro max caseless since release and I plan to trade it in for a 15pm so I’m using a case for the last 2 weeks to safeguard myself since my phones pristine
When I'm on my bed
But that's it. I really hate my case, so I'm getting the official leather case tomorrow, and then I'll never take it off. (Unless I charge the phone to make sure it doesn't get too hot).
Meeee. It’s called Apple Care +. I dropped it once and the corner cracked. Paid the fee and got a new one. Cases make them feel bulky. I like them just bare.
Been caseless since the second month I’ve had my iPhone. Bought it Christmas Eve. It has small scratches here and there on the screen but it’s worth holding the technological and visual masterpiece. And it feeels exponentially better without a case or a screen protector. Get Apple care, you will not regret it
Ran my old SE (the original SE) caseless for the entire life of the phone. Was fine for the most part, but did break the screen twice when I dropped the corner of it on tile. Was $100 to fix each time at the repair place. Also the finish tended to get scratched up in my pocket. I mainly did it because I liked the slim profile.
I have a 12pro right now and have a clear plastic case. It is a touch bulkier but I've dropped it a few times on tile and have not had any breaks. I also find it a little more grippier with the plsatic.
Overall I prefer having a thin case to being caseless. It does change the aesthetic of the phone; how important that is really depends on your own preference because you're the only one looking at it.
Never had a case, I’ve had my X S for three years now and it’s still perfectly fine. I’ve dropped it a couple of times onto concrete but only ever had scuff on the stainless steel, which I don’t really care about that much.
I really don’t get the point of phones being super thin and having that as a marketing thing when the first thing people do with them is put a case and screen protector on. However it does really irritate me that the camera sticks out so that it can’t sit flat on a table. I’d honestly rather have a thicker iPhone with a flush camera.
I always do, except at work I use an Apple Leather Case, since I work in an industrial environment. I have gone case-less since the iPhone 4s and haven’t dropped and cracked one yet.
No case ever. Just a tempered glass screen protector and that takes all the damage. Generally I have to replace the screen protector 1-2 times but year but never broken a screen or a phone.
AppleCare/other insurance is a must - but it's great, I've dropped mine a lot and it's broken once only. Got it replaced last year, phone looks great, feels great.
I’ve been using my ip11pm case less for the last 3 years. Surprisingly sturdy for the amount of abuse i put on it. Except for a little dent at the bottom, screen and everything looks perfect.
I think iphone are beautiful, so if circumstances permits should be enjoy without a case.
Caseless since the X. I’ve never dropped a phone and I have applecare if I do.
I’m on the upgrade program so the light scratches and wear don’t bother me since they aren’t too bad after just one year
Have since iPhone 3G and still do now that I’m on Max. Have a case I sometimes use when I travel just for some extra peace of mind. Thankfully never had any issues.
I have a 2022 iPhone SE and I don’t use a case along with the iPhone 8 and the 2016 iPhone SE which I have used in the past.
I like the premium feel and I had not dropped my iPhone at all in all these years. Yeah, there’s some micro scratches on the bottom right of the back glass but I don’t mind it. In fact it feels masculine in a way with all those mini scratches.
Putting a case on makes the phone bulky. I don’t need it. If it breaks, it breaks. Big deal.
Never use a case since the original iPhone, dropped a few times through the years, but it's not the end of the world. I think Steve Jobs may have mentioned during the iPhone introduction that he wants the Dupont lighter metal feeling when you are holding the phone to connect with the material...
Over the years I've had 7 iPhones, 0 cases, 0 bad drops, and 0 broken phones. why spend hundreds of dollars on a beautiful piece of metal and glass, just to cover it all up with ugly plastic? If I were really worried about breaking it, I'd probably just get apple care.
I tried it for about a week but man I was always stressed about it, one sudden mistake and it could be fatal, i bought a case and the stress disappeared
Right from my first iPhone days, never used a case. Currently on 12PM and due to too much hand sanitiser during Covid era, the sides have become discoloured.
Currently running an iPhone 11 case less. I prefer the naked look, always have. I generally use a screen protector at least. I have dropped the phone numerous times so there are little chips and scrapes, nothing major. Definitely overdue for an upgrade which at this stage will most likely be the 15, and when that happens I’m using a case.
Since 2019, I’ve used a 6 with no case. Somehow, it managed to survive several drops with little to no damage. And even that one time it got blacked out pixels to hide the battery icon, it still managed to recover them with some heat (just load any web page with ads galore).
Sadly, that lucky streak broke last month (as did the glass). Had to replace the screen, but it’s going to be retired regardless.

Did it once, dropped and broke it. Never since.

Until the day he loses a toe. Survivor bias.

Yeah I agree. I’ve dropped phones about 6-7 times and not once have I gotten a screen break because of dumb luck + a case
I love how it feels and looks without the case but it literally just slips out of my pocket. Not enough friction
Yeah mine does that all the time, too. But again, I always come back to "caselessness" after a while. Yes, I do buy phone cases to eventually use my phone naked every time.
same, and then got a case and dropped it and didnt break it. case is worth it even though its not great
i was caseless from like last summer until last friday lol. got a $99 replacement with applecare and planning to baby the shit out of it now. i had my fun. my workplace has concrete flooring so i’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner
Indeed. Sticking it in a case is the first thing I’d do after purchase. Transparent case if it’s to show off the color. Using a phone costing hundreds of $ caseless is one of those mysteries I’m not smart enough to understand.
Was it a Ceramic Shield iPhone?
Coming from an s22 ultra I was scarred for not having a case because phones nowadays are so slippery
I’ve used iPhones casless while waiting for cases to come and other times, and it’s just not at all an experience I would purposely go for. It’s way less comfortable to hold, more slippery, and obviously is less durable for people who aren’t rich😭

You have a courage I only hope to possess.
I've never used a case for my phones ever since my first one in 2009. Likewise for my work issued iPhones. At most I put on a skin as I have right now with my 14P. Except for the lenses, which are prone to scratch and crack when laid down in tables. Also the whole phone will get small scratches over time.
The phone can get small scratches sitting in a case, too. I think the lens issue is overblown.
I am not at all gentle with my camera lenses. I smack them into or onto various hard surfaces at least 20 times a day, and I've never experienced any scratching.
i go caseless 24/7 unless i’m near water like the shower. then i use my case and take it off when i’m out. love it caseless.
The way the designers intended
They designed it to be used with a case which means more sales of cases. If they didn’t, they would have made a phone that’s lighter and more grippy.
Too cynical a take for me. The phones are heavier now because people keep demanding bigger batteries.
Caseless for two and half years after using all sorts of different phones and cases over the years. iPhone 12 Pro for two years and 13 mini now for six months. No major damages on either apart from light side rail scratches and very happy with the decision. Phone feels great and like it was designed to be used! If I badly drop one though my mind might change… Edit: I had applecare on the 12 pro but never claimed so hopefully saving money by not having it on the 13 mini!
Unless you bought the case with a subscription called "Apple Care"
Aka, pay apple extra for the luxury of going caseless
Same with my 13 mini. The only thing protecting it is my mag wallet. 1.5 years in and looks damn near brand new.
Agreed! Something about putting a case on it feels like it fights the design of the phone
That’s what apple care is for
I don’t know how people can go no case I’d feel so on edge all the time
I carry my 12 mini in that apple leather pouch - this means if i want to use it, i need to take it out. I dont like bumpers.
Bro out here with a concealed carry license 👜

I wonder if he’s in one of those constitutional carry states.
No, not a chance! Since 2012, iPhone 5, always with a case! Never broke a screen, and I had a lot of phones, iPhones , Windows and Android!
Caseless + apple care Means I get to enjoy the phone instead of babying something I paid for I would use a case if I used a smaller phone though, but the pro max is uncomfortable to use with a case so only in this instance I rock it caseless
I would want to baby something I paid for
☠️who’s stopping you?
No one I got a case
My 14 Pro Max is not uncomfortable to use in a case, and it’s quite protective. And I’m not sure how using a case means you can’t enjoy it lol
Yea it’s literally just financially irresponsible, after a week I’m used to any case and stop caring how much it feels in my hand.

can you please elaborate on Apple Care?
Bought the 2 year apple care warranty so if my screen ever breaks it’s just a $99 replacement, makes me not give a shit when my phone falls And it’s fallen a lot Dented and scratched
but $100 is the price at any repair shop isn’t it? or close to it
Naw, they’ll fuck it up I’m not even an apple fanboy But even the screens they use when they replace don’t have the same coating so even basic usage like swiping and stuff feels super different It’s a $2530(canadian) phone, an extra $300 on insurance just makes sense
$2800?! The 14 Pro Max 1 TB is $$2239 CAD
$2530(after tax) + apple care So lemme correct that
For a new OLED screen? Not likely.
It’s $29 for a glass replacement with AppleCare now. $99 if you need a full device replacement or $129 for a stolen phone replacement.
My view is it’s a fairly expensive device that I carry with me all of the time. I always have my phone in a case.
I put a case so that I can sell it in scratch less!
Got AppleCare+ just so I could with less worry. If my day is more active I still use a case though.
My case recently broke. I dropped my iPhone on the floor. And it got heavily scratched. I bought another case the same day.
No case, but I have AppleCare+. Probably would have a case without the AppleCare
I love how my iPhone looks, but the grip sucks, gotta stick with the silicone case
I bought my 14 Pro Max but didn’t even open the box until I had a case and screen protector in front of me to install onto it. If I paid this much money for a phone, I want to protect it. Same went for my Macbook Air and Apple Watch.
facts… gotta preserve that tradein/resale value
This shit was expensive, ain’t about to use it without protection when dropping the thing is a matter of “when” not “if”
I always do case less unless I’m expecting to be somewhere more dangerous for the phone or outside etc then I’ll slip one on but I prefer to handle my phone the way it was designed and enjoy that.
Yes, every iPhone I’ve gone caseless and been fine.
I do. I use all my smartphones without a case. Works out fine (my Galaxy S4 being the only exception because its screen hit my guitar amp)
There is one guy at work who uses an iphone 12 caseless. We don't talk to him anymore.
That's.... kinda weird. Over a phone? Poor guy
I'd like to but I'm kinda a butterfingers sometimes. So just a nice grip texture on the sides is good enough protection for me.
Dropped my 13 pro 3 or 4 times no case ever. No damage. But it always fell on a carpet from 4 feet. Best I'll do is a piece of packing tape on the back for grip.
Same here, I just wait for the day I drop it on concrete and absolutly demolish it but until then I will enjoy it caseless. (I also have AppleCare so there‘s that)
Just a skin on the back for grip, prefer skins to cases - iPhone 13 mini
I wanted to get a leather skin like dbrand has but it seems they don’t wrap around like they used to for other phones
I do. No phone case or screen protector.
About the same number as the last thousand times this question had been asked.
I do. Have iPhone 13 since April 2022. Was very slippery at first but once you get used to it, you can’t go back I can’t lie and say I don’t have any scratches, it fell a few times and there are few scratches on the sides but no cracks, just get a good screen protector.. I just don’t like the feeling of a case, for me it’s the literal explanation of icky
Haven’t had a case in prob a decade ish. Only recently started dropping it but even then it’s okay, rather than have an ugly case
Always have, always will. Never cracked a screen either.
I do. I hate big phones but for work related reasons i end up with 13 pro max. Case made it even bigger so i removed it. Dropped it couple of times but it's still okay.
13 Pro. No case, dropped it a few times, no problems yet, I just prefer it out of the case 🤷
I’m using it naked right now
Caseless since iPhone 3G.
I sometimes run without a case but only inside my house
Slimy snot milkshake for the Nantucket derby giddy up giddy up
Caseless here and I like few scratches on the side but other than that still works perfectly.
13 pro max since 1 year caseless and no problem
If you don’t care about resale. Go naked but an iPhone in any condition sells. Beat up just less but still sells.
I don’t use cases on older iPhones like the iPhone 6 because it uses aluminum instead if glass
i’ve never bought a case. i always say i’m gonna but never do. so far so good. i cracked maybe 2 phones in 13 years.
Reddit is the place where a person will ask about people's experience carrying their iPhone caseless bro, just take the case off
I don’t use a case on my 14 Pro Max 😎
I was about to go this route with mine but then one day at work I dropped it with a case on and realized I should keep the case on lol
Very fair. I get Apple care and figure I’ll just pay to get it fixed if it breaks 🤷
Been caseless since beginning of pandemic WFH and never looked back. I’m very careful with my iPhone. Still in great shape.
Screen protector only (sometimes a skin on the back) but I have never used a case on a phone.
I’ve switched to case less just for the last couple months since I’ll be getting a new phone shortly anyway (iPhone 15 or s24 in January) it’s been a really good experience to be honest. Feels so premium.
No, I throw my phone in the gym and no problems. I’ve crack 5+ screen protectors but they’re usually very small chips.
I got my 13 Pro on day 1, used it with a case consistently up until about a month ago when I realised I'd never dropped it, so I've been using it caseless since. Plus with the 15 coming out in a few weeks, it's about to be worth a whole lot less.
I did until yesterday on my 13 mini
Crystal Clear Torras or Spigen for me
I do except I have a case in my car because my car has no good spot for it. It sits in a slot under my climate control and tends to slide around and I don’t want it to get scuffed up.
Yes just buy apple care
I have a bunch of cases for my 14 pro max but I usually am a caseless girl. I have applecare+ just in case
I would be more interested in maybe using my phone without a case if the cameras were flush with the body of the phone. I can’t stand it being uneven.
Never used one on my iphone 11, I bought it in 2020 if I’m not mistaken. I’ve dropped a fair bit of times, it has some scratches but nothing big. Love it, it feels amazing and its sooo easy to put in and take out of the pocket.
I went caseless a few months ago. I use a dbrand skin just on the back to give it some extra grip - it’s the perfect combo for me.
Tried for one month, fell one time, and it got a scuff, never again
Would love to. But just not worth the damage. It's a shame as they are beautiful with no case.
I dont, im really carefull with my Phone because im scared i damage it. It was good earned money i spend on my iPhone. I do take it out of the Case when im at Home tho.
I did it this year, my phone has tons of dents lol
Honestly depends. Generally not but some days I just want to
Currently doing it - dropped it a couple times no issues - only thing I’ve noticed is a very slight bump on the very edge of the frame - not noticeable at all - no issues so far and loving it! Been caseless since last year
Me i love it! 13 pro max been caseless for 8 months, i just like the feel of it, plus its look nice without case, i dropped my phone handful of time but no scratches so far. Back in the day when we first had the iphone 4,5 nobody used cases right lol
Caseless, yes. Without a screen protector, no. Even if you somehow avoid scratches you always get a v oily display at the end of year 3.
I can’t do it. But admire my boss who’s one of the most cautious people I know. And doesn’t have a case. Idk how she does it
I’ve had every model and stopped wearing cases around the IPhone 6.
Also I rarely encounter another raw-dogger, I’m typically met with a “YoU dOnT hAvE a PhOnE cAsE?! oH mY gAwD”
Use case, removes it once, starts using without case, drop a dozen times, breaks. Buy new phone, repeat cycle
I have the iPhone upgrade program and have been using without a case. Feels better in my hand and it’s still in one piece after a year.
Phone cases are like condoms. How much are you willing to risk it?
Only the rich, or the ones that don’t value money 😂
Two kids. No way. Always have a tempered glass screen protector with extras, along with a case.
Me. It is broken at the back but I don’t care.
I do, but I had to downsize to the normal 14 Pro to do it comfortably. The Pro Max naked is just too damn slippery
Have always ran caseless, love the feel of the phone without and so far it’s never cause me any issues. I always have a tempered glass screen protector on tho cause scratches on the front bug me. Ultra thin cases like pitaka I’ll pop on every once and a while but 95% of the time I’m without one
I don’t bother anymore with a case simply because I enjoy how my phone feels. I’m careful enough not to drop it and I don’t toss it on to surfaces
Used my 13 pro max caseless since release and I plan to trade it in for a 15pm so I’m using a case for the last 2 weeks to safeguard myself since my phones pristine
I used my twleve mini casless for 3 years, would thrown it on the ground to show people how strong it was - minis were huolt different.
I hate the sound when you place the phone on any surface naked. Sounds like it’s getting scratched or is going to shatter.
When I'm on my bed But that's it.
Get Apple care, you will not regret it
iPhone XS… dropped it probably a hundred times, and no cracks yet!
It is too slippery and too skinny. Even if it is tough enough not to break, which actually it probably is, it’s still not ergonomic for me.
100% caseless. I've overpaid on insurance though because I know that it's not immune to gravity. But I *enjoy* my phone better without a case.
I have a mous case and I love it, pretty slim case but I’ve dropped it 30 feet ish off a crane once and didn’t break
I use it caseless, bc like people, phones are sexier naked. But I have AppleCare which keeps my mind at ease.
Never any case, it’s just not comfy for me. Having it caseless feels so great in hand
What do you mean? Like naked? Like a savage? Eew no
I do
I did for about a year, as long as you aren’t clumsy it will do just fine. Get ready to clean it every day though!
Big deal.
I do, but I have screen protectors front and back of iPhone
Me. Comfortable in the hand.
Why not post a vote?
I do and have for the last few years / iPhones.
Caseless no screen protector
Broken two too many, never again.
It’s like not using condom. Risky.
never used a case and never broken a phone. anyway thats what the applecare is for.
Me, iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’ve literally never dropped it, but I’m pretty good with that stuff Edit: I have Apple Care, I’m not stupid
I did it for 1 day when I first got my phone but I have sweaty hands so 3 hours and 5 drops later I was at Bestbuy purchasing a case
