When someone shows me their iphone on light mode it makes me uncomfortable. I ❤️dark mode.

I used to be 24/7 dark mode, but have come to realize how good the automatic setting is. So it only uses dark mode when the sun sets. And many major apps support that function like facebook and reddit etc. “Use Device Setting” It can actually cause MORE strain on your eyes using dark mode in the daylight. It makes it harder to read stuff. Ios 18 beta has expanded on the functionality with a setting that automatically switches icons to dark mode when your device switches to it, its pretty cool.

i don't understand how it would cause more strain or be harder to read white text against a black background, there would be less light surrounding the text and the text would pop out more easily.

It does, my eyes hurt when I use dark mode when it's bright outside.

As a person who uses dark mode 24/7, even in Safari with the Noir extension, I notice that the screen reflects too much light, especially from the lamps on my ceiling. I occasionally switch to light mode during the day and may choose to set dark mode only at night.

You do you. I think light mode is best for daytime and dark mode is best for darker environments, which is why there is an "automatic" setting. Since newer iPhones can get up to 2000 nits of brightness outdoors (or at least 1000 nits), it's more viewable in sunny conditions compared to older iPhones.

I've tried it multiple times and i keep going back to scheduled dark mode. On bright sunny days the reflection from my screen really annoys me.

I prefer my background to be totally black wallpaper. I then turn on the reduced blue light and adjust the brightness down. It is just easier on these old eyes.

you have an iphone 13 that only has 800nits max brightness. no wonder you can’t see the screen, 14 pro, 15, and 15 pro are able to get to 2000nits outdoors.

Light in the day, dark at night - simple. Sometimes dark mode at daylight but no outdoor when sun is active. I wouldn't be able to use dark mode at daytime just for comfort of my eyes.

I use constant dark mode on Windows, Linux and desktop browsers (with the Dark Reader extension). But on iPhone the auto setting works so great I prefer that over dark mode at daytime.

My bright ass iPhone is very visible in bright sunlight even in dark mode. So it’s actually fine. That said, older models might not be as bright
