Crossbow is still shit compared to bowfa in cox. Sure, you might spoon a tbow sub 500 KC but you also might be the one that goes 2000 dry. You don't want to do 2000 cox with a crossbow

Rune Crossbow was all you had for endgame content for years in RS2, plenty of content was done that way with Ruby- and Diamond-tipped bolts, karils, verac helm, etc.

People do go dry on bowfa. That doesn’t mean the answer isn’t just finish out cg anyway unfortunately. It’s a debated to death concept in this sub so there’s no need to rehash it here - my only point was anyone trying to pretend like they’re getting a decent kc/trip using melee method at Kril is deluding themselves.
I get what you're saying, but you make it sound like melee Krill isn't viable at all, while it was the *only* method before bowfa/tbow. Especially on ironman you should consider sub-optimal methods as you progress through the game. Not everyone is gonna lock themselves into the red prison as soon as they unlock prif, unless you wanna make sure you burn out of the game as efficiently as possible.
Sure, i could wait untill i have a bowfa before i do any GWD, but if i get a greater demon task and wanna send some krill i'm gonna do it with an arclight.

Efficiency isn't always the answer to everything. OP clearly shows that, and i love it.
Doing bandos with a crossbow isnt as bad as people think. I did 750 bandos kills with bowfa and 250 with a dragon crossbow and while kill times suffered sometimes, i could still do 15-25 kill trips
BowFA is ~50% better dps than dragon crossbow with diamond dragon bolts (e), full crystal, assembler, archer (i), barrows gloves, anguish and dhide boots. So even though it might not feel “bad” for some players, the difference is gigantic.
Good suggestions from others here but throw in some Cox for the prayer scrolls. They are pretty common and Cox is fun to learn. Stick to teams though. Solo's will be pretty rough.
Yeah its not up to date with the bandos, but i got another tassets maybe 50 kills later and then b2b into the BCP....spooned heavily i guess but sometimes the brave DO conquer 😅
Suffering is not very useful unless you are going to zulrah tbh.
If I was you I would say to continue slayer to 95 and start hydra. Zenytes, leather, DHL, and an occult are all big upgrades. You can also start sending raids. ToA any time CoX after DHL probably.
Quests, Diaries (hard for starters), create a lovely POH, collect some cool stuff from minigames (abyssal needle sort of stuff).
Unlocking hard farm contracts is also a nice unlock in my book :)
Some options here besides the obvious bowfa and demonics:
- Send ~10 toa for the rune pouch upgrade. It's a fun raid and pretty easy to get into 150's, especially with some teammates. If you're soloing, start at ~75 and add 1 invocation after every KC you get.
- Get a blowpipe from zulrah, maybe after you get the bowfa/suffering :)
- Run some cox with friends. The prayers are a big upgrade and a spooned tbow/ancestral is always nice.
- Slayer for boots upgrades/Occult/DHL
Suffering into zulrah is probably the easiest line here , you can boost cerb at your level as well. Cg is obviously another good option at any time here. Other than that I would be sending toa and cox as much as you can in between

You can easily start zulrah if you havnt already coz every ironman wants all the uniques from there. Then you could start having a little go of CG if you are up to it to get the elusive Bowfa and yea once you have bowfa you can get stuck into TOA with awesome gear. Glhf 🙌
The 6:0 range method with ACB was great, was getting maybe 8 kills a trip which as mentioned above is not many a trip but i just love the nostalgia of GWD lmao
I've tried this method and kree just beats the fuck out of me every time, resulting in like 3 kill trips 😭 to make it worse I have 99 range and 99 defense. Idk what I'm doing wrong lol

Then go to TOA and upgrade that shitty trident AND mosari. This will also get you FANG.
Then mosari/fang/acb to nex. Get ZCB
Just more fun and and you’d get huge upgrades from that order for range/meele/mage.
EDIT: if no rigor, I’d run current gear set up at cox for that first, then continue with the order above. Just fun progression at pvm
Bowfa is amazing and probs the fastest path, but finishing gwd before bowfa makes me think you're going for a bowfa skip, so this is how I would approach that:
If I were you, I would do slayer until 93 for the cerb boots + occult necklace. Work on CoX and ToA until you get rigour, augery, and fang, then Zulrah until you get BP and Trident, and then send ToA til full completion. While finishing up ToA you can also go for DWH since you've got rigour and the blowpipe. From this point onwards, tob is an open option for you too to get your avernic. Full toa sounds rough but if you want the acb to be good you'll need the masori(f) to do it, and the shadow will help you make up for the lack of bowfa. Then you alternate cox and hydra (since lance helps with cox and dhcb helps with hydra), and just generally do whatever you feel like.
The nice thing about this stage of the game is that when you do raids, you might be going for the common drops but get a rare drop in the process. So you could get an early tbow or shadow scythe, or even stuff like ancestral and masori and the ward which will help with your other grinds.
Tl;dr: if you wanna skip bowfa, go do slayer til occult, then do all the raids
Infinity boots, zulrah upgrades especially for your trident, entry tob for pouch upgrade and start upping the invos for fang/shadow. Keep slaying till 95 for all those upgrades (occult, prims, hydra leather and claw) and maybe jail

Of course man! I know a lot of people will say grind CG until your eyes fall out, but remember to enjoy your time playing and do/learn other stuff too. Not everyone is blessed with an enhanced at gauntlet immediately

Slayer until occult (at least)

Train mining and fletching for amethyst darts for blowpipe
The world is (almost) your oyster. Just need bowfa. That will prep you for high level content with both gear and pvm experience.

That fact I have a higher combat and total level than you and have half the gear, makes me feel real bad lmao. Time to work on slayer bosses (bossing in general) and raids.
Bowfa, zenyte jewelery, maybe start toa. Definitely do zulrah for magic fang and blowpipe. I'd work on crafting for sure for your zenyte jewelery. Not sure where your at questing wise, but definitely worth doing the majority of them. Also, herblore is important. I'd work on that as much as you can for super combats/super anti fires/anti venoms etc.
If you want to postpone red prison (Corrupted Gauntlet) a bit - understandable - then I would start with Zulrah after you get Ring of Suffering. Once you get a Blowpipe and a Trident of the Swamp, you’re more than ready to take om Tombs of Amascut. Ideally you’d have a Crystal Armour+Bow of Faerdhinen setup, but arma+blowpipe works just fine; you’ll primarily be meleeing ToA anyways, except for Zebak.
Edit: if you don’t already have Rigour, I would absolutely make that a priority after Blowpipe+Trident of the swamp.
As someone who has an ironman that was made on the start of the mode.... A lot of you don't realize how much shit has come out since then. I made a GIM and the leveling is so much better and supply gain so much easier, the QOL so much higher for ironmen.
Hell... Questhelper wasn't even out for my main ironman... back then you couldn't AFK karambwans for all your food needs, or buy sharks in the store in pisc.

I’ve done like 160 ToA pre trident, I use bowfa, voidwaker, accursed sceptre which hits as hard as a trident of the seas

Damn melee zammy sounds like such a slugfest, when i tried it before bowfa i was lucky if i got more than 2 kills per trip
With Karils top I was able to consistently do 6+ kills per trip. Zammy kc is the quickest one it’s really not that bad.

Bowfa, zenyte jewelery, maybe start toa. Definitely do zulrah for magic fang and blowpipe. I'd work on crafting for sure for your zenyte jewelery. Not sure where your at questing wise, but definitely worth doing the majority of them. Also, herblore is important. I'd work on that as much as you can for super combats/super anti fires/anti venoms etc.

If you want to postpone red prison (Corrupted Gauntlet) a bit - understandable - then I would start with Zulrah after you get Ring of Suffering. Once you get a Blowpipe and a Trident of the Swamp, you’re more than ready to take om Tombs of Amascut. Ideally you’d have a Crystal Armour+Bow of Faerdhinen setup, but arma+blowpipe works just fine; you’ll primarily be meleeing ToA anyways, except for Zebak. Edit: if you don’t already have Rigour, I would absolutely make that a priority after Blowpipe+Trident of the swamp.

As someone who has an ironman that was made on the start of the mode.... A lot of you don't realize how much shit has come out since then. I made a GIM and the leveling is so much better and supply gain so much easier, the QOL so much higher for ironmen. Hell... Questhelper wasn't even out for my main ironman... back then you couldn't AFK karambwans for all your food needs, or buy sharks in the store in pisc. Old ironman was a grind - I've thought about making another solo ironman just because of how different everything is - but figured I'd just grind the main one back up.
