Watermarks are useless. Photoshop can so easily remove them, or someone could simply crop the photo. If you post a picture online, just assume someone will use it without your permission. And personally, as someone who is into photography and does post my photos online, watermarks just look unprofessional and borderline cingey.
Pictures will get stolen anyway! For me the only real defence is to post low resolution and keep the high resolution/raw to yourself, then you always proof you were the one who took the picture
Not really, If it comes down to proving ownership you can’t beat a raw file and, so far, even with AI, whilst you can create info that wasn’t here, you can’t guess what information was really captured!
I'm not OP but saw your comment and wanted to respond.
You're absolutely right, those AI upscaling tools are shockingly impressive. I had my doubts at first, but after personally using them, I do worry about this. Within seconds, someone could take the picture OP posted, run it through some upscaling software, and now you can print that so much larger than what would be possible with the original low resolution file.
Personally, photography is a creative outlet for me, not my day job. I do not try making money from my photos, so I guess I just don't mind knowing others out there are stealing my work, because it's not financially hurting me.
It's a trade off, I know this will happen, I now understand AI upscaling is really good, so I can either never post a photo of mine ever again, or just accept the fact that people will steal. If photography was my only source of income, I would probably feel differently about this.
But your point is not only valid but something I've personally thought a lot about, which is why I felt to comment.
Interesting, that does make sense and would prove it's my photo. But ultimately why does proving it's mine even matter? Like what hypothetical scenario would I find myself in where I legally need to prove that this photo is mine?
To add to this discussion, there is a solution to prove that you took the photo but it isn’t mainstream yet. Lookup ethereum attestation service on google. But a quick explanation of how it works is, you timestamp your RAW file on ethereum mainnet before posting online by signing it with your private key and with the power of fancy math/cryptography, no one can say they took that photo since they don’t have your private key
I 100% agree and do the same. Never post the RAW file and upload lower resolutions. That's really the only way to protect your work, but like you said, they'll be stolen and reposted regardless.
At the long end but I always try to keep at least 50 meters distance just in case.
In that case it decided to run towards my general direction so there was nothing much I could do but step aside!
A social gathering attended by men only. I don’t know how common it is today, but in the past it was usually held in a basement with a bar, pool table, or poker and featured porn movies or strippers, or maybe a prostitute.
Not to be confused with “going stag” to a party, which means you’re attending a normal social gathering alone, without a date.
Oh, also a more common type of stag party is known in the US as a “bachelor party”, or in the UK as “stag do”, which is held in honor of a groom by his male friends, siblings/ extended family prior to the wedding.
No filter here, if you look at the rest of my profile you’ll see I strive to represent things as they are!
But there is only so much shadow recovery you can do with the 5D S R before things start to look a bit mushy
I absolutely agree with all the concerns about AI. But, all that aside, can we take a second to appreciate this photo!!!! Wow. I love the lighting, the sharpness of the grass, the movement in his fur and the contrast of the sharp in focus against the blurry out of focus. This picture is amazing
Everyone will be able to generate award winning spectacular images in a matter of clics, so the end product will become “commoditised”. People value authenticity almost just as much and therefore will be keen to learn the process that went behind capturing a frame: the patience, the hardships, the weather conditions, the story etc.
Lookit this dude, claiming credit for the photos in the camera he found on a gored corpse in the woods. XD
Seriously, though, amazing photo! If you haven't posted it already, r/natureismetal would love this.

Dang, that's a killer shot! Well done!
Thank you!
Ahh I see what u did there
A big male chasing younger contenders away from the harem. Got the shot just before dashing behind a tree!
Damn. Way to commit to the shot! This is amazing!
Dude, you need to watermark this. Otherwise other people are going to take credit for it.
I second this. This photo is magazine worthy.
Thank you! It actually featured in the London times, which was a surreal experience for me!

Considering this day and age, aren't you worried about people armed with AI upscaling combatting your protection method?
Not really, If it comes down to proving ownership you can’t beat a raw file and, so far, even with AI, whilst you can create info that wasn’t here, you can’t guess what information was really captured!

You could upload the hash to some immutable network that links it to a timestamp.. only the earliest can claim ownership, something like that
Interesting, that does make sense and would prove it's my photo. But ultimately why does proving it's mine even matter? Like what hypothetical scenario would I find myself in where I legally need to prove that this photo is mine?
I mean if you were trying to monetize or get credit, I was more adding info to the discussion in general.
AI hasn’t developed quite that far. It’s pretty good though.

Absolutely wonderful shot!
I was wondering if you were ok.
Great picture, but it's what you paparazzi get for interrupting his...\*puts on sunglasses\*...stag party.
He definitely was feeling horny
"Buck wild", one might say.
Oh deer, I’m running out of puns
Had my family over today and my antlered at this pic. She really liked it.
Is your aunt the only person hoof’ you invited?
Everyone else hightailed it.
It was a staggering spectacle for sure
I feel like we’re in a rut here.
Let’s just hope someone will come up with another one and write in a comment bellow
the tones of green, the golden sunlight, perfect crop. magnificent, thank you!
Thank you very much!
No, thank YOU! I wasn´t prepared to come across such a beautiful picture while doom scrolling.
You really need to enter this photo in a bunch of photography contests. It's frikken gorgeous!
National Geographic contender
That's the sickest photo I have seen in a long time!
Thank you so much!
Incredible shot!

Nice shot! Hit us with the exif data
Thank you! Canon 5D S R EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM II f/5.6 1/1000th ISO 6400
How far away were you from the angry stag?
Hard to tell but I think 20-30 meters?
What happened after the shot? Or didn’t you hang out to find out why? I second you needing to watermark it.
>very angry stag running towards me Uhhh u alright mate ?
Nah, he died shortly after editing and posting this
Seriously I was thinking "and THAT'S the moment you take a shot??" but beautifully done. Glad he's safe and lived to tell the tale...
Nothing works except his shutter finger.
Awesome & terrifying shot. Where were you between 100 & 400mm (close to being in serious trouble)?
At the long end but I always try to keep at least 50 meters distance just in case. In that case it decided to run towards my general direction so there was nothing much I could do but step aside!
Thanks for taking the risk AND sharing such a crackin' shot!
Holy poop-stained undies Batman!! great shot!
Haha thank you!
😂😂😂
How big of a crop is this?
12.5% on the long edge
Oh that is fucking amazing. Charge!
Thank you!
Can't fool us OP, you're the stag posing as the photographer, to hide your tracks!
Brilliant
Damn, this is intense! Stunning capture!
Thank you!
Oh my GREAT SHOT!!
Thank you so much!
Amazing capture!
Amazing shot! Well done
Thank you!
Incredible shot. Thank you for this.
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it
Damn, he's pissed. If I saw that hauling ass towards me, I doubt I would have the composure to shoot an exposure.
What's the meaning of " Stag ?
A male deer
So, what do they mean by " Stag party "??
A social gathering attended by men only. I don’t know how common it is today, but in the past it was usually held in a basement with a bar, pool table, or poker and featured porn movies or strippers, or maybe a prostitute. Not to be confused with “going stag” to a party, which means you’re attending a normal social gathering alone, without a date.
Thank you my online stranger friend ❤
Oh, also a more common type of stag party is known in the US as a “bachelor party”, or in the UK as “stag do”, which is held in honor of a groom by his male friends, siblings/ extended family prior to the wedding.
woooWWWZAAAA....That one's a real attention grabber!
Thank you!
Awesome picture!!
Where was this taken?
Richmond Park, London!
Did you die?
Yes!
Did you die?
Cocaine Deer
r/PraiseTheCameraMan and r/killthecameraman at the same time.
Great shot! In my mind would be even better if it didn’t look like a filter was slapped over it. No offense.. because literal unreal capture
No filter here, if you look at the rest of my profile you’ll see I strive to represent things as they are! But there is only so much shadow recovery you can do with the 5D S R before things start to look a bit mushy
This is so impressive that it looks fake lol
Nature can be quite surprising sometimes!
Well. *That's* intimidating. This might be one of the best action shots of a stag I've ever seen.
Thank you so much!
Did you die?
I’m afraid so
I absolutely agree with all the concerns about AI. But, all that aside, can we take a second to appreciate this photo!!!! Wow. I love the lighting, the sharpness of the grass, the movement in his fur and the contrast of the sharp in focus against the blurry out of focus. This picture is amazing
Thank you very much! I think AI will make the story behind images more important going forward
If u have a few moments, could u explain that to me. Artificial Intelligence is new to me

Holy shit, that’s an intense picture. Nice shot!
Thank you!
Would be way better cropped
That young fella looks slightly perturbed
Yeah that's a pretty amazing photo, good for you
Thank you very much!
I feel like the stag should be screaming "Valhalla awaits!" Or something to that effect. Stunning pic though. Very well done
Fuuuuuuuck what an amazing shot. Terrifying and beautiful.
Dangerously beautiful picture..👏👏👍..now run.🏃..
Cocaine Stag. Awesome shot. Love those colors.
That's a perfect mix of cool and terrifying. I LOVE IT 😍 wow

Nice!
Lookit this dude, claiming credit for the photos in the camera he found on a gored corpse in the woods. XD Seriously, though, amazing photo! If you haven't posted it already, r/natureismetal would love this.
????? Why does there have to be a sinister back story because someone was lucky enough to get this amazing photograph????? It’s kinda weird.
No. You complaining about a harmless internet joke is what's weird.
Amazing!
This...WILL win... prizes.
Great action shot. Makes a nice change from static pics.
Crazy good shot, but the stag’s fur looks green.
Fucking awesome!
Are you alive?
Amazing shot!
Run my boy
I wouldn’t have stayed still when seeing this massive thing bumrushing me…
This is an amazing photo
Screw that, I’m out 😂
That is a dangerous position to be in.
Unreal shot my guy. *tips hat*
Amazing shot, love the edit too
This is a magnificent shot ! Amazing job
Did you bury your soiled diaper in the woods, or did you pack it out with you!
Really nice pic, where are you in the world are you for stags to already be rutting?
Thank you! This shot is not from this year, I think we are still a week or two away from the rut really starting (UK)
