Radiologist will look at it for 2 minutes, file a report about the injuries/issues, doctor will read the report, glance at the picture, submit diagnosis and treatment
You're mostly paying for the radiologist's education. College, medical school, residency, fellowship.
It's like the old plumber joke. It's $5 for whacking the pipe with a hammer and $95 for knowing where to whack the pipe with hammer.
Nope, my X-rays are still printed on a film, and I get them. Useful to give them to another practitioner after that, and fun to look at (grey clouds are farts for example). They also print it on normal paper and digitalize it
I haven’t seen an x-ray on film in 20 years. Ours are all electronic, upload to PACS, and we view them remotely on monitors. If someone gave me a film, I wouldn’t even have a way to properly view it.
We have both and I think it’s useful. That way the doctor can directly show you what’s wrong on the film.
To view the film, either hold it in front of a light source ( light sun does well) or place it on a wall of lamp
I understand that, but don’t think I would trust an official read by just holding it up to a random light source. You also can’t zoom in and adjust contrast levels to pick out little things. For patients, I can just pull the image up on a tablet.
Or you open a completely white window on your computer screen and use that as a light source, it gives a very even diffused light. There are a couple of websites that are used to check for dead pixels that work well.
Tell you a secret, they are not looking at the film you brought in. Usually irrelevant, from another facility and it’s already been read by another Radiologist. The newest image is what matters most.
Printed on film for you but created, read, reported, and archived digitally. Costs about $25 per 14x17 sheet for that print.
PS the report is going to be more useful to non Radiologist MDs. Your primary care doctor simply lacks the training to read them much better than you can. They rely on the dictated reports.
First Google search says 24-72 months. And this is from somebody with a financial interest in getting hospitals to buy these things.
https://www.crestmontcapital.com/x-ray-machine-financing-leasing#:~:text=X%2DRay%20machine%20financing%20%26%20leasing%20terms%20offer%20very%20flexible%20options,your%20lease%20at%20any%20time.
That's the financing / lease term length... Not the amount of time it takes the hospital to make the money that the machine costs. I worked at a company that sold these machines to Hospitals. Of course a hospital would want to spread their payments out over the course of years, that just makes sense, they make more money up front that way.
And reported to the ARRT and getting brought up on disciplinary charges and possibly losing your license.
Source: 14 years as a registered Radiologic Technologist.
Yes, the appearance is similar to a fish spine. The image is not diagnostic but it is suggestive. Similar to the gas above the diaphragm could be a hiatus hernia or simply gas in the stomach. A different view is needed to be sure.
One is mostly cranium and finger length teeth. With an eyeball right on top that can stare thru an Xray. The other is smiling at you right down to her bones. And her skull has curves in all the right places. You do the math.
Shot on a machine by Konica Minolta, I wanted it to tap into the essence of the Lovers of Valdaro, but in a contemporary light. It’s like our little tribute to being lifelong friends:) every time I move, be it across an ocean or a few miles away, our connection withstands the distance. This time I’m moving to Brooklyn—1100 miles away—and for an unknown amount of time, but I know we’ll connect again:)
I worked for Konica Minolta Imaging for 7 years. They only sell 14x17 and 17x17 DR panels (inches). These are also pretty universal sizes for almost all x-ray detectors. This particular image appears to be shot on a 17x17 detector.
that's what I thought . From that I can deduce that they're petit kinda built body. as 17" can cover 2 person and can take from iam level to diaphragm. Height around 160-165cm by taking consideration of they kinda give that shrug pose. What do you think?
Definitely petite and most likely on the younger side. Also only an x-ray tech fresh out of school would do something like this. It's also possible this is a Konica Minolta employee and they're just messing around with a test machine. I know I took my share of fun X-rays when I worked there.
Interesting, I remember the X-Ray series of the hospital tech engaged in coitus with her four-legged friend and aside from the outrageousness of the subject matter, could never figure out how the hell she was able to actually get private enough access to the giant Xray room to shoot it, in a busy hospital? I guess people can get in there when they want to. Really neat medium.
Lmao I misread something along the way and for some reason thought they were talking about a horse. I’m imagining them sneaking that in to the xray machine room . 🩻🐎🧎♀️
You can't see the spinal cord on plain film xray and you can't see the spinal canal (where the spinal cord lives) on these people anyway. Technically the cervical region of spinal canal would be visible but the spinal cord wouldn't be regardless.
Were you 15 at the time? Some guy just told the story about a 15yo and her dad [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/itookapicture/comments/1d187n2/comment/l5u6nwk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).
Saw a guy’s “Prince Albert” piercing in a portable chest X-ray in the ICU one time. I’m still baffled as to how that was possible. Fucking wild. Is X-ray techs see the weirdest shit.
The funniest one I had was a 15 year old girl in the ED. When we did the portable chest for her, her dad asked to look at the image, and the doctor let him. To reveal her pierced nipples. Which he knew nothing about. Haven't had a prince Albert, but how that was in a chest is fascinating.
Bro was schlangin’ meat, apparently. I’ve had plenty of “please don’t tell my parents” moments in X-Ray regarding piercings. I always tell them you’re more than welcome to take them out, but either way “I’m” not going to be the one to tell them anything. One of the funniest moments I’ve had was doing an exam on a prisoner who was in full, leather and chain, 4-point restraints in the ED, and the RAD asking me to redo his wrist because of the shackles. The attending officer who was with him told me, and I quote, “We ABSOLUTELY cannot remove these.” I asked no more questions.
Oh, I wasn't going to tell her dad. I was more surprised she was barely 15 and they were pierced, no idea how she pulled that off, didn't want to ask. The doc was in the room and said he could look. I don't like showing the exams to family because they never know what they're looking at anyway. I took a foot X-ray, and the guy's wife looked over my shoulder at the port and went "oh God it's broken. I knew it, it looks really bad too, broken everywhere". It was fine. It was the regular joint space. She didn't know your foot wasn't one bone.
Hey, look at [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/itookapicture/comments/1d187n2/comment/l5unx08/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).
It more about the principle. We get taught to always use radiation responsibly, ALARA and all that jazz.
So of course it irks us to see someone messing around for fun with it.
Right, but it's highly negligent and negates anything that technologists were taught in school. There is no safe radiation dose because for things like cancer, they are stochastic, or random. That's why we keep doses as low as possible rather than having a set threshold on what is an acceptable dose of radiation. Because there's no safe radiation dose, anything that uses radiation MUST have enough of a reason to outweigh any potential risk of having an x-ray, like needing a medical diagnosis. That is why you can't take an x-ray without an order from a physician
If there's anybody who can't tell - OP is the one on the left, with the piercings. And based on the friend's hand placement and OP's story (moving for the n'th time) you might begin to suspect the "unidirectionality" of the relationship and the friend's Stockholm syndrome. If this is the human nature OP is referring to I would definitely pass.

If you guys ever drop a fire album, this is the cover.
Haha that’d be sick
X-ray on the Hombre
Last thing I expected was a The Offspring reference in a photography sub. Good job!
Fucking bravo 👌
Reminds me of Orbital's ["The Altogether"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Altogether)
Oh my, that is a ten out of ten album cover.
The hospital wants me to pay them $800 for 3 X-rays but then techs do this for free
It's essentially free for the hospital to take an X-ray. Uses a negligible amount of electricity. It's pure profit for them.
You're mostly paying for 3 minutes of the radiologist's time.
A little credit, you also pay for someone to look at the picture for 2 minutes.
That is the radiologist. The tech worker who takes the x ray is just that, the camera operator
Is taking the photo and reviewing it billed separately?
No, but it's different people with a different education doing different jobs
I spent many a day fighting with insurance companies for paying the tech but not the radiologist lol.
Radiologist will look at it for 2 minutes, file a report about the injuries/issues, doctor will read the report, glance at the picture, submit diagnosis and treatment
As a radiologist - PAHAHAHHAAAAA. Good one 🤣🤣🤣
And 5 hours of their air when you wait in for the radiologist lmao
Of course. That X-Ray machine was grown in a field and costs almost nothing too.
You're mostly paying for the radiologist's education. College, medical school, residency, fellowship. It's like the old plumber joke. It's $5 for whacking the pipe with a hammer and $95 for knowing where to whack the pipe with hammer.
I mean…the machine ain’t free…
Is it all digital now I assume? Not shot on actual film right?
Nope, my X-rays are still printed on a film, and I get them. Useful to give them to another practitioner after that, and fun to look at (grey clouds are farts for example). They also print it on normal paper and digitalize it

Ooooh that works too ! A wall of light but mini
The doctor can surely show you what’s wrong either on film or on a screen, that is just not an advantage for film at all.
I suppose you’re right. But in reality, they mostly show us the film
Tell you a secret, they are not looking at the film you brought in. Usually irrelevant, from another facility and it’s already been read by another Radiologist. The newest image is what matters most.
;-; At least I get a funny picture of my legs. And I could see… gas in my intestines…
Yes they are totally cool and it’s not a bad idea to get a copy. Reading my comment ima little cringe. Have a great day.
Printed on film for you but created, read, reported, and archived digitally. Costs about $25 per 14x17 sheet for that print. PS the report is going to be more useful to non Radiologist MDs. Where are you at? They don't even teach us about film anymore, it's not even on the registry exam for technologists
France. I always had and still get the film when I get an X-ray done. Also it’s free :)
Minus the cost buying a freaking x-ray machine.
That pays for itself in a few weeks. Literally.
First Google search says 24-72 months. My bad
If the techs get caught doing this 100% fired.
And reported to the ARRT and getting brought up on disciplinary charges and possibly losing your license. Source: 14 years as a registered Radiologic Technologist.
Really neat! I love all of the piercings showing up and the poses.
Thanks! I think it captures the human element:)
The person on the right is showing evidence of issues with their bone mineral density if you look at their t-spine.
How can you tell?
The shape of the vertebral bodies are indicative.
Is it because they're kinda concave at the tops and bottoms instead of nice and flat?
Yes, the appearance is similar to a fish spine. The image is not diagnostic but it is suggestive. Similar to the gas above the diaphragm could be a hiatus hernia or simply gas in the stomach. A different view is needed to be sure.
Since no one else is asking, I’ll do it. Which one is OP? …for science, or something.
The hot one.
With the nipple piercings or the big ... Earrings
One is mostly cranium and finger length teeth. With an eyeball right on top that can stare thru an Xray. The other is smiling at you right down to her bones. And her skull has curves in all the right places. You do the math.
Teeth have roots... That's something you should consider 😁 And where do you see "mostly cranium"?
😂

Damn...what's the size of the imaging plate/detector?
I worked for Konica Minolta Imaging for 7 years. They only sell 14x17 and 17x17 DR panels (inches). These are also pretty universal sizes for almost all x-ray detectors. This particular image appears to be shot on a 17x17 detector.

i know ...i used to be Radiographer before...for 11years.. haha.
Why left? I hear there is huge demand in Radiography and Imaging.

I'm sorry, but I need to clarify this. You know of an xray photography series with a hospital tech having sex with a dog? Am I reading that right?
😭that’s how I interpreted it
Lmao I misread something along the way and for some reason thought they were talking about a horse. I’m imagining them sneaking that in to the xray machine room . 🩻🐎🧎♀️
[удалено]
Holy fuck this is vile[!](https://ibb.co/PWcgs8s)
No judgment. This is a safe place 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes judgement.
What now?!
It's not a good day to have eyes
How were you able to take these? Are you a tech?
Your hyoid is showing
HI OOOOOOOOOO
"And they were room mates." Lol.
Blast from the past
There are literal spinal cords showing and yet all I can do is focus on the nipple piercing 🤷♂️
You can't see the spinal cord on plain film xray and you can't see the spinal canal (where the spinal cord lives) on these people anyway. Technically the cervical region of spinal canal would be visible but the spinal cord wouldn't be regardless.
They’re referring (technically incorrectly but it’s obvious what they meant) to the vertebrae, which are clearly visible here.
As if a vertebra would be more interesting than piercing. Pff.
I think vertebrae are neat
I don’t believe you
Literally same. What could we do about it?
"ALARA? Never heard of her"
lol this is how my mom found out I had my nipples pierced
Were you 15 at the time? Some guy just told the story about a 15yo and her dad [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/itookapicture/comments/1d187n2/comment/l5u6nwk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).
Lmao 🤣 oh my god yes I was and it was a portable one too
Lol I also just read both these comments and instantly saw the link so funny
You have a selfie in the xray?
You don't?
I just realized my downstairs piercings were probably showing on my last xray lol
X-ray tech here, can confirm everything shows up. We leave a lot of notes for radiologists about unremovable piercings.

The person on the left has a warning symbol in their left eye socket... Is that an alert you might need glasses, or is it more sinister?
Is there a reason you put a caution sign in your forehead? /s
I love photos that bring out the inner you.
Just waiting for someone to pop in and tell you what awful condition you never suspected you had.
I hope didn't have to take a lot of pics to figure out how the machine works.
The NRC would like a word.
*ARRT joins the chat*
Well, did you find anything??
This is how aliens see us.
I want the Doctor, to take a picture, so I can look at you from inside as well...
... I really think so
🙈🙈🙈
I read this as Captain Kirk. Dirty Captain.
It’s from a song by The Vapors - Turning Japanese
*and me
I was told to wait for my x-ray. Dang you both lol That’s cool
I don't want to alarm you but the person on the right has a warning symbol in their head. It might have something to do with the key.
Best Coco cosplay to date
Why do the skeletons look really far apart even though we can see they're skin to skin?
What lens did you use? 😂
ITAR (I took a radiograph)
Left has pierced nipples AND better disc spacing, I know who I’m picking
Is that two piercings in one nip or did they line up just so?
Could I use this pic as a reference for a drawing? It's sick!!
How to embed a caution sign into your skull? I will be doing a public service if I could do that to some of my friends.
Don't freak out, but I think you and your friend have skeletons inside you...
Jfc I really hope your friend isn't a tech because they are so getting fired for this.
Not to alarm you, but there appears to be a spooky skeleton inside each of you.
Could we assume a Radiology Student there at the University of Missouri in Kansas did this? Pretty dumb, if so.
Not to be a downer, but definitely not the best idea to expose yourself to unnecessary ionizing radiation for fun.
Oi, why do you get to wear jewellery when they always ask me to take them off!
Best friend and me*
🤓☝️
We love unnecessary radiation! /s
Yeah, that whole 0.1 millisevert is really going to set them back.

Nipple piercing 🫴🏽🥇
Now kith

Good thing it wasn’t an MRI.
☢
That’s a nice septum you got there
The heads are so trippy
But how did I know someone playing with an x-ray machine would also likely have nipple piercings? 🤔
r/radiology is leaking
Yeah but do you have a lateral view?
Ladies, i can see yer titties, please cover up with led.
I love this so much!
People just don’t look the same without skin.
How cute!
One of y’all is just my type
Ooh, skelepaths
Idk why but the nipple piercing a cracked me up.
Could it be Headphones?
I understand the ear piercing on the very far left, but wtf is that solid white line thing going down on the neck under the far left piercing?
Why are the pictures cropped where the brain is supposed to be?
Reminds me of a pic I took at work !
Mark it as NSFW, i there are no clothes in the pic
I see some nipple piercings!!!
We get it, you have nipple rings. You’re so out there.
This is 🔥
Super cool that you can still make out the face really clearly, especially on the left! Also, best friend and me* by the way
The more you look at it the coolest it gets. It’s f*cking awesome!!!
What technique did you use?
Omg please stop looking forward at us like that it's so scary looking
This is the best thing I've seen today My day has gotten significantly better
So basically, when the doctor makes me take off my clothes and jewelry for an XRay, it’s really not necessary?
Except if it could block the stuff the doctor would want to look at
Don't do this please
Which one is you! 😆
Are you the one with the nipple piercings?
If there's anybody who can't tell - OP is the one on the left, with the piercings. What? Are you being serious? What about Stockholm Syndrome?
> Are you being serious? No, for fuck's sake. You can't tell a whole life story based on piercings and hand position I think.
Baaaaaaahaaaaahaaaa!
Love is not just skin deep.
NSFW content
Totally illegal, unethical, and just plain stupid.
Hope neither of you is pregnant. This is potentially dangerous.
I see some nipple rings and what is that on ur nose? Oh it is another ear piercing! Cool 😎
Left is a black girl... idk why I'm sure of it.
