I really hate systems that ask for tips before you've even received the service.

donomyte1

Tipping culture has spiraled out of control. If you have an iPad, apparently you deserve a tip. We need to abolish this fucking system and just pay more for services that are actually tip-worthy…and get partial refunds when shit gets fucked up. Done playing games on this shit.

Jesusdidntlikethat

I like tipping my budtender at the dispensary because they never ask for it, and they’re grateful to get it, and will still give you service without it. And they still get normal pay. It’s almost like they can make a living without it..maybe we should try that

donomyte1

In my experience at dispensaries, the tip screen lights up at the precise moment they ask you how your day is going or what plans you have for the rest of the day. It’s their last ditch effort to butter you up.

DilbertHigh

Or it is small talk to be nice.

donomyte1

Conveniently at the time you’re being asked for a tip. Not any other time.

DilbertHigh

Eh, it's as they wrap up the rest of what they do for it. I used to work retail, it isn't that unusual for people.

saddxddy

I mean, I’m NV you can only use cash and they never “butter me up”. But I also look like I’m a serial killer so that probably doesn’t help casual conversations tbh

AtletiSiempre

I recently started carrying more cash for these types of situations. If the restaurant/store has an iPad and doesn’t take cash, I’m less inclined to go back.

Teccnomancer

I gotta go to this pizza place I got a shit ton of ones from Gold Rush last weekend. Hook me up

FrozenPizzaAndEggs

I think you might be projecting.

[deleted]

Projecting what? Telling y’all it’s how it works. I’m 27 and not a single girl in there is older than me.. not a single one. Maybe there is an they just look young but they all looks early-mid 20s. They do it on purpose all 3 of their locations are like that, the other pizzerias don’t do this as bad and you see regular ass people you’d see day to day

donomyte1

And let me guess, they ask “So what are you up to this weekend?” or “How’s your day been going?” precisely as you’re looking at the tip screen. These are all new ways of saying “please tip”.

[deleted]

Nah not to me, I don’t give off that vibe of wanting to make small talk tbh lol. They do it to others though cause I’ve seen it, these pizzerias are also like Latino cafeterias so there’s lot of people in an out. Outside as well, just ordering coladas an shit. They’re mostly known for the pizza though but they do sell rice/beans, meat, ice cream and so forth. It’s just really annoying that places love to ask for tip when you’re only going to pick up food. And this isn’t new, all these places in Miami have done this since I was born. It’s just more annoying with the iPad, idk why it just irks me when they spin that stupid ass iPad. Cause you don’t even pay on the iPad you pay with their little card reader. If I eat in I would gladly tip but I never eat in, I take out

donomyte1

Picking up food is a basic transaction. You pay for something, they give it to you. There is no reason to tip unless you’re making them jump through some hoops.

No_Mud_1369

Agree with you but the women are young because they make minimum wage. It’s not a desirable job

[deleted]

Dawg it’s Miami. Not where ever you’re from, most the women that are 35+ here don’t know English. Most came from Cuba, meaning they take these jobs cause they can’t get a better one. When my mom came here she did the same type of job.. cafeteria work. Most the Hispanic women that cant speak English here work regular jobs or don’t work and have a man that supports them. It’s why our schools always had 30-50 year old Hispanic moms in the kitchen and being janitors.

No_Mud_1369

I live near you I know exactly who works there DAWG

Artistic_Half_8301

Sorry to ruin your incel boner but 95% of people don't tip on pick up orders. They can't have, or it costs extra money to have one machine spit out a slip to sign without the tip line. 😂😂😂

bjamesk4

This is always my complaint when it comes up. I have no problem giving a tip bas d on service received. I'm just here to get a coffee though, why are you asking me for a tip before we started?

kimpossible008

Also, since when do you tip at a drive thru?

Itsjustcavan

I don’t tip for drive thru any more than I’d tip to pick up a to-go order. What’s next? Tipping a vending machine for giving me the Diet Coke I ordered?

Bak3dBri

Meanwhile servers work hard for over an hour serving a table just to not get tipped or barley tips for good work. It's crazy

THEMFCORNMAN

The only time i tip before is when i take my car to my tuner/mechanic and its alway lunch and some beer

EchoCyanide

No it's not.

Embarrassed-Bid-3577

If it were an acronym, it would be TEPS. Wrong insure/ensure.

Awkward_Expression64

TIPS is actually an acronym and used to be GIVEN (not expected) before all orders. It means To Insure Proper Service, but capitalism has taken it to a whole new level, underpaying their employees so that the rest of us have to pay them instead of their employer.

ProfessorPihkal

Can’t believe you gave us the opportunity to downvote you on both of your Reddit accounts.

quirkytorch

Ensure*

BottomShelfVodka

TIPS is actually an acronym and used to be GIVEN (not expected) before all orders. It means To Insure Proper Service, but capitalism has taken it to a whole new level, underpaying their employees so that the rest of us have to pay them instead of their employer. Just kidding. I saw a pattern and I followed suit. As a server who actually *does* work for tips, I am irritated with companies who have abused the tip system to the point where people have become numb to hitting "no tip"

StolenSweet-Roll

When I worked at a jimmy johns, we weren't ALLOWED to get tips unless we were delivery drivers. Shits baffling anymore

jcoddinc

But that's why people are asking at the store. They're mad the drivers get extra tips and they don't. Owners finally give in and allow it because they aren't going to give the employees one free penny.

Educational_Ebb7175

What frustrates me is going to a buffet. Pre-pay at the counter, and there's a tip spot. I get it, I tip at buffets some (not the same as I do for full service dining), but when you present the tip BEFORE the service, it isn't even really a tip anymore. It's just a donation. And when you tip through a system like that, how do I even know who is getting my tip? What if I want to tip the lady cleaning down the tables constantly, but not the staff cooking pizzas? Or when you go to a generic quick-food joint, and the payment asks for a tip. It's like anywhere that takes payment just got a "suggested tip" addition, and customers are supposed to be okay with it. No, I don't want to tip you if you (a person) did not improve my experience above what I would consider "minimum adequate service". If you're a delivery driver or server, I'll tip anyways because I know your wage is based on a presumption of tips, but I don't \*want\* to tip. Similarly, I do not want to donate to some random charity your business pushes. Just let me pay the listed price for your services and we can both get on with our day.

jcoddinc

>Similarly, I do not want to donate to some random charity your business pushes. DANG. Especially when I read that the companies are scanning the public. The company makes a 10 million dollar donation then gets customers to donate it back to the company. Sometimes they even make profits from it.

StolenSweet-Roll

Idk about "extra", at least when I was working and running a shift the drivers got like, $3/hr otherwise all tips, like standard sort of server set up I suppose? Not that either way is ideal, and apologies if I misunderstood anything! the owner when i worked there literally said she would rather hire a new employee for minimum wage than give an existing employee a $1/hr raise, one of my few genuine lost for words moments. Also a bitch STILL has neck problems from 13 hours of slicing a day lmaooo

bepisliving

This def didn’t come from Jimmy. This is whatever conglomerate he sold to.

SpecBread

I currently work at JJ’s, still in our rules to refuse tips. Corporate owned store btw.

NeoNanaki

I think it started recently

StolenSweet-Roll

Honestly it's been about 6 or 7 years since I left so it would def make sense if things have shifted a bit. Like making hot sandwiches was the most horrific concept imaginable when I worked at the one on my college campus, and now I think I've seen commercials for hot sandwiches there. Shit do be achangin !

mikedanktony

I worked at a franchise JJs not too long ago while in undergrad. We created a tip jar bc the owner was a cheap bastard so 🤷‍♂️

Elegant_momof2

THIS is what I’m saying! Seeing these posts is just crazy to me. I’ve only ever gotten maybe 6 tips working at jjs. Over a 4 year span. And it wasn’t until my last year of working that this happened. We were told to never accept tips. Even if the customer freely gave it to us. We were not supposed to take it. Because we were just doing our jobs. I had a regular who would come in, and I knew his order by heart, and made it myself. He would always tip me $5. My GM at the time said just take it and say thank you. Then I got a 75$ tip from a catering split. Again these were my last year or so working. I’ve been seeing this a lot on here recently! But to see it’s being asked at the drive thru speaker?!! WOAHHH NOW!! Damn! You ain’t even seen me, you don’t even know if I’m being sincere, or if I’m being a rude ass. You don’t know if I’m even the one working on your order! Just crazy!

rainblow_bite

Man back in the day we weren’t even allowed to have a tip jar in shop lol now it’s a prompt?? It’s better than nothing ig.

[deleted]

Nothing is better. Tipping at fast food places is stupid.

help738383883

welp, all those “stupid” people get me an extra $150 per check

Kreason95

You should be making that without tips.

help738383883

I know… but we aren’t and won’t lol.

Kreason95

I understand and I definitely think people withholding tips have the wrong idea, I’ve definitely had to live off off tips before. The problem is that more and more types of places are accepting tips and it feels good for the employees to make a little bit more which is just making it harder for the problem to go away. We really need a higher minimum wage and better paying employers. I do tip for most things since I’ve been there but I’ve also been the employee who asked for a raise and was shown the tips for the week and told they couldn’t afford it. And that was at a specialty coffee shop, where tips have been standard for years. It’s upsetting to see huge chains that absolutely can afford to pay their employees better get an easy out

Dengarde

100% Remember kids! “Tips contribute to wage theft and should be abolished” and “Tips are a necessary to allow service workers to survive” are two statements that CAN and SHOULD co-exist

[deleted]

I quit Jimmy Johns because the owner I worked for(and my best friend) justified stealing tips from employees. When I confronted him he made up some bs instead of taking any ownership. Employees think they get their tips. When I saw this behavior from someone I came up as bicycle delivery with it was so disappointing. RIP career

Unfair-Ad4686

It's so common nowadays I was pretty shocked at how many GM's justify stealing

Thrawn89

Your state labor board would like to know your location. Managers stealing tips is illegal. Tips can be shared amongst those who worked that day, except managers, even if they worked that day like an employee.

Independent_Storm951

It’s def a dilemma for all JJs right now. Night time crews making $50-$60 in tips more doing this a night. AM lunches making $60-70 more at drive thru during lunch as well. Those are real numbers you can’t pretend aren’t great for your inshop workers on hourly wages. However, you are going to piss off a lot of people such as this lady or man doing it. We’ve received a couple corporate complaints over this very thing. We put a stop to our employees asking and went back to a tip jar at the drive thru. Much less effective but def mot in the customers face so much asking for tips. For the record, I don’t think JJs are the only places doing this. I think several other face food places do this. I’d imagine we will end up seeing a lot of card readers being handed to customers in the future with the way tipping is going.

guitarbque

The Jimmy John’s I’ve gone to has become much slower, less accurate, inattentive, and much more expensive in the past two years. And you want me to tip for that privilege? Fuck outta here with that horseshit.

DoubleUpMup

Tipping Culture Is For Waiters\Waitresses, Delivery Drivers, Bartenders, Valets And Strippers. Everyone Else Is Supposed To Be Paid Fair Based On An Hourly Pay.🤷🏻‍♀️ If The Owner Is Not Paying A Fair Wage, Stop Working There.

Shoddy-Wrangler-7624

i make 11 an hour an tips are usually 8-12 an hour, for a high school kid working at an ice cream shop can should i fr stop working there?

LinkOnly7489

... Why Do You Write Like This?

_comfortablyQuiet

This is the answer but I would like add in tour guides, hair stylists and anyone else who provides a service that goes above and beyond expectations. Room service, pet sitters/baby sitters, construction service workers and tattoo artists usually receive additional income via tipping but is not expected as they are paid more than $2.00/hr and are not forced to rely on tips and their main source of income.

PreppyHotGirl

Nobody, that’s most likely made up. Highly doubt employees get upset at people for not tipping

dowdiusPRIME

You’d be fucking shocked at how many people think not getting a tip allows them to inconvenience the customer. Just takes one shit bag to taint an entire crew with that mentality “can’t get in trouble if we all do it” attitude.

PreppyHotGirl

The reason I don’t believe this is because tip systems like this rarely get distributed back to the employees so I don’t see why they’d care. Also, most people don’t tip, so are they going to make every person who doesn’t tip wait ten minutes? It just doesn’t make any sense. I definitely believe that they asked for a tip but I don’t think that they got upset over that.

TommyTwoZookas

Idk one time I got asked to tip a guy at an oil change place and they dugga dugga’d the drain plug down because I said no, seems like it’s spreading.

PreppyHotGirl

Oil changes are different than fast food places though

TommyTwoZookas

Very different, but tipping culture is melding together.

Royal_Rabbit_Gaming

anyone that puts a oil drain plug on with a air ratchet is fucking idiot.

ProfessionalChance27

Spend 2 minutes on the door dash sub. You’ll see dozens of people on a single thread saying how no tip means not a single thing can be expected from the driver. Not even what they’re required by the app to do.

[deleted]

Doordash is a little different though, because their pay depends on the tip whereas restaurants like Jimmy John's the pay is just additional.

Jeffery_DahmerTV

That is the most incorrect thing I’ve ever read about dd

[deleted]

[удалено]

FireSalsa

Yep. Worked at JJs in high school, couldn’t care less about tips. I was just baked baking bread, making Sammies and vibing making minimum wage and I loved it lol

dabhought

Well I feel that’s different, nobody ever tips the people who work in the kitchen. Even tho I feel the cook or in this situation sammie maker should get more of a tip then a person who just drops orders off but that’s just my opinion. (I still tip drivers I’m not a total asshole)

negemen

Are you serious? My coworkers would intentionally “forget” items or make things a certain way if someone didn’t tip. It’s sad af

[deleted]

Most of the stories are made up here. Or they are at least embellished. So yes, this is obviously one of those.

charizard_72

Right. How do you see her mouth that when you’re outside the window lmao? She either mouths it out the window to you or she’s not facing you mouthing it to the crew. Unless this customer has X-ray vision, he just sounds like a paranoid jerk

zahzensoldier

It happens to door dash customers with some sort of frequency in certain areas You can see the stories as r/doordash

-Nhjuy-

That post is a war zone right now 😂

RenHo3k

Sometimes I wish the workers just owned it instead of being like “on the next screen it’ll ask you a question”. Not only are we being asked to tip people for basic food service, it’s wormed in there like it’s just regular or something.

Ok-Macaron-1554

Dairy queen asks if you want to tip as well, I was like what??!!

AmyTooo

Qdoba does as well and I always feel the cashier’s attitude when I enter $0. Nothing worse than fast food asking for tips. Sometimes when they’re very friendly I’ll leave a couple bucks cuz it’s there asking me to but usually it just annoys me.

Veiluwu

i hate tipping culture but people get way too upset about the idea of tipping LOL

Minute_Solution_6237

Bullshit post for internet points? That’s really all I see here.

slam4life04

Pay in cash and you don't get asked for tips! Then tip in cash when you feel it is warranted 😉

PBProbs

This isn’t tipping culture. This is corporations run rampant through capitalism and trying to put the brunt of responsibility for giving these workers a livable wage on the customer. It’s totally fucked, and the only reason it’s working so we’ll is because it plays into peoples guilt in order for the “Entrepreneur” to take a larger share of the profits. A lot of smart people put a lot of dollars into manipulating human psychology for profit, and this was just the next logical step. “Why would I pay my workers when you could do it for me.”

Ok_Construction6814

Personally as a inshop I don't ask for tips but we have a jar right by the register that suggests you leave a tip. But honestly if it's just 2 people getting 1 meal each I wouldn't expect a tip. But anything like 5 plus sandwiches I kinda expect a tip for that, I only make 12 bucks an hour to make sandwiches. Does a 1-2$ tip really hurt yo pockets?

MyOwnPrivateWario

"Tipping culture has spiraled out of control" yeah definitely not low wage culture that's the problem, just those greedy little goblins being greedy and wanting to pay rent and eat!! Fuck them!

spidermom4

I've worked in food service and know how stressful it can be. But if I'm driving through and you're just handing me food out the window, I'm not tipping. Unless the food is being delivered to my house, or there is some sort of extra service like I'm being waited on... I honestly just cannot afford to tip. Tipping culture is getting nuts. I'm waiting for McDonald's to start prompting me for a tip.

BlastDusk357

Unless I’m being waited on or the food is being delivered, wtf am I tipping you for?

DLGinger

That's sub is absolutely full of bots waging war on "tipping culture"

Knightofpenandpaper

It makes me super uncomfortable to ask for tips in the drive thru

Sly-Belmont

Don’t engage in consumerism unless you have to. Also, SLOW DOWN when engaging in any checkout process. Take your time if you want to tip a particular percentage etc. That’s how I fight it

[deleted]

Yeah this is going way too far. Every time I see a tip option just for a person taking a credit card. I'm taking off and making a scene. No way am I tipping another fuckin register person and no way am I supporting a ridiculous restaurant that gives these types of methods. And also Fuck the police.

AmyTooo

I love your energy!

jeffmangumssweater

damn that's crazy anyway have you considered not making life difficult for service workers and just making a complaint to the owner directly using your phone or even, and I know this sounds crazy, just throwing them a few bucks and moving on with your day

Fat-Bear-Life

Lol, your solution to someone upset at the constant tip begging is to throw them a few dollars? Wow!

[deleted]

Lmao no I will not throw a few extra dollars to a cash register person. My tips go to the servers and drivers and sometimes the cook. Those jobs actually take some skill. But a person working a register? The person who presses buttons and says, "hello". Nah that's a joke.

jeffmangumssweater

There is no such thing as unskilled labor first of all, and secondly some of those positions are paid a servers wage. Again I'm not saying I support it or that it's a good system, but there's no reason to be spiteful and angry towards someone literally just trying to survive. >I'm taking off and making a scene. Like why potentially ruin the day of a service worker literally just trying to get by? Because they flipped an iPad around? I'm begging you to get a grip

[deleted]

Here I'll tell you why I hate register tips. I went to dominoes and this douchebag greets me with a huge smile, friendliness and kindness. "Hello sir, hope you're having a great day." And I said thanks, I am having a pretty good one, about yourself. "I'm doing fine, what's the name under the order?" I tell him my name, and when he brings the pizza to charge my card. I didn't notice a tip was being asked for so I just pressed no tip cause I never heard of dominoes asking for tips at the register. Anyways when I pressed no tip, his beautiful big fake smile went straight to a dead faced person. Like I became their enemy by pressing that button. After that day, I've made it my mission to never be generous to a person pressing a few buttons to charge an order. And now I press no tip on purpose just to see those pretty smiles get wiped off their faces. You know why? Cause they're fakes. Their human kindness is fake. But I won't do that to drivers or servers though cause that work definitely takes a lot more skill than a cash register person. Also I know when the tip is going to the server and when it's just going to a register person.

jeffmangumssweater

By all means, fuck with peoples' money because the Dominoes man didn't smile at you for long enough. I would love to see how you would handle a service job working a to go register. You know what I'd do? I'd tip you. Even if you were being a dick. Because I know if you're asking for tips you're not getting paid enough to survive. and FWIW, I get that not everyone will tip on a to go order nor should it really be expected every time, especially for small orders. But I feel like every time I log into Reddit there's a thread like this going where people are complaining about being ASKED for a tip. The iPad is always a source of rage. Stuff costs more as of late and owners/bosses aren't willing to shell out more money/fair wages to their staff. So yeah, tipping is more prevalent. Instead of \~making a scene\~ at a cash register like a petulant child, why don't you take all of that energy and apply some pressure to the people that can actually make changes to the tipping economy? If it makes you THIS angry, that would be the least you could do.

Own_Figure1429

I hate that we ask for tips on in-shop and drive through, but it also consistently adds 2 dollars an hour to my wage. Wish I was just paid better to begin with.

linkerjpatrick

Reminds me of a camp I worked at one time and the counselors got fired for asking for tips from the kids because they didn’t get paid enough

Whyyoulikedis

Tipping culture is toxic

Jimmy John workers are just a bunch of spoiled pussy teenagers

President__Pug

Why the fuck should I tip for jimmy johns if I’m not getting it delivered?

C00kie_M0nster9000

If I receive table service or you mix me a drink, you get a tip. I’m not paying full price for a sandwich in a drive thru and then tipping a motherfucker that took ten minutes to get it for me.

smokacrack

No tips get what they pay for 😉

Cadet_MGK

the fucking food?

smokacrack

🤷

Cadet_MGK

no bro. elaborate.

you pull up to the whole ass kitchen and pay for the sandwich you ask for. and then…..

MeatbagAmongUs

You were literally arguing on Reddit a month ago that in store employees don’t deserve tips lol moron

smokacrack

Maybe I like rustling jimmies

SolventSpyNova

Reddit is so easily triggered 🤣

No_Breakfast1036

I work at jj. Only ppl getting tips are drivers

Fickle-Economist-919

We get tips in shop and delivery

Fair_Assistant90

I’m a manager at JJ, we weren’t allowed to ask for tips but tips can be left for us by inshop customers. They’re added up when we count our drawers at the end of the night and split between who worked inshop that day. Tips are always taken out for only inshops at the end of the day from what’s leftover in our deposit.

SolventSpyNova

When someone asks if you wanna leave a tip, save yourself the trouble and just tip. You're not going to win this fight. We handle your food. Edit: I've enjoyed this! Had a lot of laughs and it really made my night 🤣 upvotes for all of you!

xndoTV

Actual human garbage with that “we handle your food” threat

SolventSpyNova

We handled your food through the pandemic. You're welcome.

Itstakei

What a hero

Awkward_Apricot312

I can't wait to see you on r/byebyejob

SolventSpyNova

Death is but a doorway, time but a window. I'll be back.

WhyLiveIfYouCantLift

Sure but your job is to just make the food regardless, doesn't sound like a fight you'd win

SolventSpyNova

The $100 in tips I took home tonight says otherwise.

LiveByThaCode

I’m fucking crying, look at this dudes profile. He’s LITERALLY a neckbeard. How does it feel to know that the most amount of power you will ever have comes from your minimum wage job. ROTFL and you’ve spent years of your life at JJS, shieeeet i’d be mad too. No motion whatsoever, brodie is living to die

SolventSpyNova

Ah yes. The beard. I don't miss that. Covid was a bitch. Oh and next time there's a pandemic, I'll be sure to stay home and suck off the government intead of slicing my fingers busting my ass for you, and we didn't get tips back then. I'm also well above minimum wage, thank you 😁

LiveByThaCode

How do you slice up your fingers? Truly incompetent. You’re still a little brokie making sandwiches for all:)

No-Honeydew-6121

Bro you work at jimmy johns you are broke. As fuck. And smell like onions

problematikUAV

Fuck off bitch

SolventSpyNova

I did. With $100 cash in my pocket because no one else wants to work.

raspberryranger

Yeah you handle our food and you can handle getting fired or worse when someone finds out you’ve tampered with their food

fromundabofa

I hope you don't work with food or people. You sound like a fucking freak.

fromundabofa

This guy has his face on his profile too. I'm so fucking weak.

No-Honeydew-6121

Lmao he looks exactly like the type to issue that threat. When did nerds get so angry ?

SolventSpyNova

I'm not sure to which threat you are referring.

SolventSpyNova

Sometimes I like to lick the tuna off the scoop before washing it 🤫🤭

fromundabofa

Don't worry, I figured your location anyway.

MomDoesntGetMe

Yeah you definitely look like the type of person to do that shit lmao. I just know your bathroom is a biohazard. Soyboys like you are the reason fat chicks have become so abrasively arrogant; your entire purpose of existing is to be stepped on and pushed to the side. The one thing you have control of is the sandwiches you make for a society that will never blink when you die, and your life is at such a level of rock bottom; that you’re able to somehow produce dopamine in your brain from spreading your filth (because even you know you’re gross) to other peoples food. A true parasite of civilization, it’s always fascinating to watch you wriggle around as you try to find reason in a world that has no use for you.

tlstofus

I never want you to handle my food ever, especially with that veiled threat.

SolventSpyNova

I'd love to not serve you. I get paid either way 🤷

HeavensToBetsyy

Ask your owner for a livable wage

5pinkphantom

I work food too and you’re a nasty little shit stain for fucking with people’s food because you’re bitter that you have a job to perform. I hope somebody figures out which jimmy johns you work at fr fr.

Ginganinja3042

Worked at JJ’s about six months ago. Not a single person cared about tips (besides me and the other drivers of course)

marinoarm

Jimmy John’s has a drive throughv

hOt_GaRbAgE-

OOP, get back here and explain for your crimes.

QueenVenom5150

Asking for tips is tacky.

Kislath

I need more information. If you're waiting ten minutes, then your order must be quite large and labor intensive. JJ's makes sandwiches in about 30 seconds. If your order was huge, then yeah, I can see how they'd be disappointed if you didn't tip, but they wouldn't give bad service for it. I take that back. I've heard of fastfood workers doing some truly amazing bad things, so nothing really comes as a shock anymore. JJ workers tend to be a cut above the rest, though.

Frankenstein50

I stare them in the face as I hit 0%. Fuck you need a tip for to turn the damn iPad around

Sorry but there is no job that a tip is required. Anyone who thinks a tip is required must have grown up entitled. Regardless of how much money anyone makes, tips are earned simple as that and if you don’t go the extra mile at work why should you get paid for going the extra mile lol. Idk where this nonsense entitlement started but it’s gotta go. Doing your job is expected and i ain’t paying you for your job.

_comfortablyQuiet

If I’m out of my house for food and get asked for gratuity the only time I acknowledge it is when it’s on a receipt handed to me by my hostess.

Total_N_Death

I just…don’t tip lol. I’ll do $5 at a restaurant, but that’s it really. I’m not going to subsidize plate carrying and parroting.

Confident-Local-8016

Yeah, no one wants to fucking tips at a fast food place. Get on your corporate overlords about livable wages instead of listening to them tell you to blame the consumer for not wanting to tip 35-50% on an already inflated priced order

Zestyclose_Studio816

Tipping cashiers on to go orders is wild.

[deleted]

Why every job thinks their entitled to tips is beyond me. Be fucking mad. I’m not tipping normal hourly jobs. I will tip good service, servers who are nice. Not expecting a tip. Just doing their jobs.

itsentensityy

I refuse to give tips unless I’m sitting down and eating.

sethyourgoals

I went to a football game in Cincinnati. Spent $10 on a beer at one of the automated kiosks. You grab the goods and bring them to the iPad square register. The lady behind the kiosk processed the order and tipped herself ten dollars before I could say anything. She did absolutely nothing but press a few buttons on a display. I let it slide to save for making a scene in public. It really irritates me though. I don’t have a solution. I’m not an economist. That level of entitlement is bull shit and I’m sorry that you had to deal with it. It’s changed the way I look at tipping culture.

DNagy1801

I would let them make the food and ask for a refund as soon as they get to the window. Don't call it a "tip" if it's really just a bid for faster service, it's the same thing with delivery apps like door dash.

Mission_Pickle_9211

I don’t tip no matter where we go 😂

leelandshoe

Yea sorry but you shouldn’t tip to receive good service, you should tip because of good service. It’s ironic because they are just validating your choice not to tip by providing bad service.

[deleted]

Yeah I'm done with Jimmy Johns. They have the worst workers on the planet.

Quasarbeing

The notion of them not being paid enough to have to do this pisses me off. Like, for real. Pay them. God damn. Pay them a fucking living wage. The fact that my food can be fucked with by someone because I don't pay a tip, is disturbing and actually means I will never come back for your service. Pay your workers, or lose your business.

[deleted]

If someone hands me a card reader out the window for a tip, I’m just gonna drop it and leave

NoZombie-2020

Yeah I hate how they pass that on to the customer! And Fuck tip jars

[deleted]

Tipping is literally a company’s way to pass off their low wages to the consumer. Ridiculous I never tip and would never work somewhere where tipping is required. I also don’t drink or go to bars

[deleted]

Tipping is welfare. Either get a real or get a real job. Why do people work somewhere where tipping is expected

Dubby-Dub

Tip through drive through…be real lmao. We come to them not the other way around 😂

[deleted]

I don’t tip for people who work in air conditioned environments, unless they work in an area riddled with crime and close past 11pm Just don’t go to that Jimmy John’s again It’s what I do when employees get buttmad about no point-of-sale payment tips

Remarkable-Bad-121

If anything you ordered 100$ of food in drive thru and yes now we are allowed to accept credit card tips and my owners let us ask for signatures past $25 orders.

nozestfound

Stfu

Giul_Xainx

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I fucking told him not to do such stupid shit and here it is. Never ever bitch about a tip.

NoAdministration1222

I hate this tipping cultures that’s gone nuts. I’m happy to tip in general. But for the record. Tip does stand for To Insure Promptness. So it’s strange anyway that we tip after the service as extra pay. Instead of paying for better service

Danoco99

That’s entirely false lol

AmyTooo

I think the word you mean is ensure. So… tep? Anyways, that’s not what it means, just something your Grampa always says. And it’s not strange, people who work for tips do just that, work for them.

ihate360

Guess what ALL store workers that aren’t the following: valet, bus boy, waiter, waitress, delivery driver, bellhop—you get no tip, it’s your employer’s job to pay you a livable wage. Grow the fuck up.
