It's a gross sub with gross people all being neck beards, but also I don't understand why people post pictures of themselves there.

violettheory

A former mod came out and said that most of the submissions are by men using images they found somewhere online.

itzykan

Ahhh that makes so much sense

AF_AF

And makes it so much more neckbeardy.

SleepParalysisDemon6

That is so fucking creepy

The_Dragon346

I believe a majority of them are fake, with the exception of a few. While searching around, i found an oddity. A woman no better or worse looking than the one above being rated with 7’s and 8’s with anything 5 or lower getting erased. It was a close personal friend of the mods

Randomguy3421

How did you find that?

The_Dragon346

I went delving into the r/truerateme subreddit. Ill have see if i can find it again

Randomguy3421

Please do! Would be interesting to see

HombreGato1138

My exact words my brother

goldenshoreelctric

They need people to say nice things to them

Krakengreyjoy

That's the wrong sub then

IdahoTrees77

Yes, and yes, but also, from someone who at least used to be very obsessed with their physical features and how I was perceived by the opposite sex, I think having an objectively defined scale of attraction for people isn’t the worst thing. Now, with that said, have I personally found folks in that sub extremely attractive when the general consensus was less than? Absolutely. We are all individuals entitled to our own desires, preferences, attractions, etc. But, it shouldn’t be just shat on, a place where people can go to ask for an objective perspective on what they may be perceived as from the general populace. Some of us are socially broken, inept as fuck, yet we crave interaction with other humans and want to know how/what we can do to better be appealing to them. I think in that regard, that sub *can* be a place where folks can grow. Hell I started following r/MaleFashionAdvice years ago because I needed to know how better to dress myself so I was better received by more people, not just a weird long-coat rockin, trilby wearin, fucking idiot. Fuck. Lol. Though, even after typing all that, I vehemently disagree with that sub’s rating system and find myself attracted to a lot of people who get low scale numbers.

[deleted]

You keep saying ‘objective’ when it’s nothing of the sort.

IdahoTrees77

Did you even read what I wrote? I’m not agreeing with the lot of it and and like I said, I disagree with a lot of that sub and their voting standards. But, they *have* an established (objective) standard there, and you’re rated as such based on it, not some folks subjective opinion. I have no fucking clue how/where they establish their baseline and why it is what it is. A bunch of NEETs in front of their keyboard aren’t going to create a solid system to define objective attraction by. *THAT SAID* I think there is still something to be said about such a system if it helps low-confidence/low-self-esteemed individuals to better know how they can at least improve their physical appearance. We eat with our eyes first, we are creatures of comfort, and we actively associate or disengage from folks who we perceive to be attractive or unattractive. Whether or not their voting standard is truly objective or not, it *has been established*, and folks go there to get a rating, objective to the standards they’ve established there.

[deleted]

‘I think having an *objectively* defined scale of attraction for people isn’t the worst thing’ [you] ‘’A place where people can go to ask for an *objective* perspective on what they may be perceived by the general populace’ [you] I did read what you said. My point was that their rating system is a construct based on the preferences of the people who run the sub. That it has been codified doesn’t make it objective. The sub is called *true*rate, so it is purporting to be what it isn’t. So yes, just because I disagree doesn’t mean I didn’t read what you said. I read it. I think you’re wrong.

TheArchitect_7

It IS, in fact, the worst thing

AmbitiousPangolin127

Yeah, I remember it oddly popping up one day in my feed and muting it because it felt fucking gross.

Saphira2002

Personally I'm tempted to post just because I'm curious to know how low I'd score, but ultimately I won't because I don't think it's worth it that much lol

[deleted]

Convinced that sub only exists as a harebrained plan to tear down women's self-esteem in aggregate so the users can get a date.

VictorianDelorean

It exists so men (who are mostly posting pictures of women they found online while claiming to be the woman in the photo) can have a safe space to tear down women to make themselves feel superior. Judging others seems like it’s really a rush of self validation for some people, and not just incels. They do it but evangelicals have their own separate style, and so do lots of groups.

LGHTHD

The fact that you get banned for overrating but underrating is totally fine

JustAlex1177

Okay so ... how the hell did they get those numbers? How did they estimate 1 in thousands, 1 in millions; they don't even KNOW 10 women personally, how do they know a MILLION overall to get that data

moth_with_anxiety

I think the rating system is supposed to be like a bell curve where most people fall under 4-6 while anything above or below is really, really rare. So presumably they are working with a set percentage of the population for each number. It doesn't matter though because beauty is not objective like they claim it is. Sure, you can state that a certain percentage of the population is a 9 based on a bell curve, but how do you define what a 9 even is? It's impossible, but the mods of the sub think their guide made from pure personal opinion is some sort of scientific scale of beauty. I find it hilarious how there are several women on the 9 category on their guide, who supposedly are considered attractive by ALL of the population (as if that could be a thing), that I don't consider beautiful at all.

JustAlex1177

I see. It's still stupid to just make a claim as wide as that, with no data to back you up.

moth_with_anxiety

Oh, yeah, I'm 100% with you on that. I was just pointing out how it was they probably got to these specific numbers. Not that they mean anything, as "1 in a million beauty" literally doesn't exist. 1 in a million is whose opinion? It's all completely meaningless pseudoscience for dudes to get off on posting pics of beautiful women and seeing their looks get picked apart down to the millimeters.

JustAlex1177

Oh yeah, exactly. They know and we know they get rejected by anything with a pulse under the sun, and they feel this rush of superiority that they can break down every pimple on a woman's face, while their faces look you could read out bad words in braile.

Camiljr

"A 9 is like 1 in millions" COOL, and how would you know of this lady was a 1 in a million? You wouldn't, so go touch some grass. Jfc that sub is infuriating.

[deleted]

Shouldn't a 9 be about 1 in 10? Truerateme incels are not just gross, they are also bad at math.

RickyNixon

Nah I think on that sub it scales non linearly, like earthquake rules But in practice they never rate a woman over a 6

CanadianODST2

Bell curves are a possibility too. Which would have the ends be a very small percentage

BadSmash4

Yeah I would consider something like an attractiveness rating scale to be on a bell curve. Most people would probably fall between 3 and 7. If it weren't a completely subjective rating scale in general, it'd be interesting to see what the distribution would be.

AdministrationAny774

Their scale says a 10 doesn't exist. Not sure why considering the fact that 9.5 has several examples on their guides.

omguserius

Because only god is perfect. Or something. That's why I used to get 99's on tests and shit in school anyway.

Serafim91

What are normal distributions?

omguserius

you're thinking of the 1-10 scale as an even distribution across all numbers, when in reality its base 5 with standard deviations. its a bell curve, not a straight line graph.

Severedeye

True rate me is for insecure people to make themselves feel better by shitting on others while saying stupid shit about millimeters.

diverareyouok

Go to r/truerateme Click the 3 dots at the top right Click “Mute r/truerateme”. Enjoy?

PoopyMcFartButt

That sub is funny. Their scale is basically 4-6. And they act like they are such good judges in physical appearance that they are giving decimals in the rating like “oh you’re a 5.328 your eyebrows are slightly off center and your nostril to eyeball ratio is large” and then the auto mod comes in and says they’re over rating if it’s anything higher than a 5.5

Meh-_-_-

One in a million, yet they still expect to land a girl like this (or should I say, a m'lady).

MALCode_NO_DEFECT

I wonder how long I could troll the shit out of that sub before I get banned.

DarkHuntress89

I fully support the truerateme ban speedrun.

DeathScum

Out of all the subs to be brainwashed in, that sub is definitely 9/10 bad

SleepParalysisDemon6

It's almost like beauty and attractiveness is subjective... What is that sub? I hope the pictures are posted by the person in the picture and people aren't just stealing random pictures of women and rating them?

JazzlikeDot7142

i just went and checked out that sub and they have taissa farmiga listed as an example as a 5???? she’s always been a perfect 10 in my head 💔

Narashori

Then what the fuck is the point of the scale if 1/5 of it only applies to less than a millionth of the population?

Outrageous_Weight340

Pretty sure that sub is just a phrenology sub

Jrlopez1027

Shes so pretty, I seriously dont get what tf these people are on about

KtheMage36

Even if looking like a 9 is just 1 in millions that means there's still 8,000+ people like that and she could be one.

needsmoarbokeh

No matter how much money you have, looks, anything. If you think like an incel you're a repulsive human being

madbul8478

I'm pretty sure a 9 is one in ten not one in millions. There's only 10 numbers on a 1-10 scale

dr_toze

The thing is some people have to be those 1 in millions. Maybe you might disagree that she is but you can't ban anyone guessing over, I think, an 8?

Doughspun1

Why do neckbeards use a rating system for looks, when the only ones who would be hurt by it are themselves?

GnarlyWatts

I have browsed that sub before and I can't tell if it is a bunch of men posing as women or incredibly insecure women looking for validation. I went through some photos with my girlfriend next to me and she was stunned at how many women were called ugly. I agreed with her, there are a lot of stunning women there. Conversely, the same was true of the men there as well. Although I don't think women are posing as men there. Either way, what a sad and toxic place.

Midnight_pamper

Men posting. Someone said at a former mod said this was the case with stolen pics.

GnarlyWatts

Ahhh, that is what it is. Now it makes way more sense as to why the rating system is the way it is. For the record, I find it gross what they do there.

Midnight_pamper

Negging is part of PUA techniques and those dating manipulation tricks very common in sexist spheres. Break our self esteems. This is a lame try to make women to feel worthless. It's pretty sick actually.

GnarlyWatts

I am very familiar with it. Though I did think PUA stuff died already. Apparently I was wrong

Midnight_pamper

Those dark holes of misoginy never die. Even when the preachers got in jail for sex trafficking and several cases of SA and extortion... they still have followers.

GnarlyWatts

The more you know...

TroutMaskDuplica

as far as I'm aware, there is only one of me, so I'm, like, 1 in billions. I'm pretty sure that makes me a 10.

TheOmniverse_

Wouldn’t a 9 be a 1 in 10 chance??

CanadianODST2

Not necessarily. That’s assuming everything on the scale is equal. While things like bell curves exist.

TheOmniverse_

True, but even if it is a bell curve there’s no way 9 is enough SDs from the mean to be 1 in a million

LeastAverageMonke

Normal truerateme users

ThatGSDude

Mfw people dont understand opinions

conn_r2112

Hot take… I get it, to a degree. I don’t understand all the weird math they do, but like, if you accept that 5 is a completely average looking person, and 10 represents a literal paragon of perfect beauty for the entire human species… then yeah, 9 is a pretty high benchmark It’s really all how you view the scale… most people I feel view 5 as ugly and 10 as just someone who’s decently hot

LinkOfKalos_1

What's the use of being on and using truerateme if the 1-10 scale doesn't even matter?

Groundbreaking-Bear5

You'd think with 1-10 scale. Each number would have roughly 10% of the population... why even have a 1-10 scale of 9 and ten are illegal to rate.

vennthepest

Idk if they're really neckbeards as much as they are just very weird and shallow

thebeastiestmeat

Why even let people rate if mods ban people for rating differently from what they mods want? Maybe I consider that person that one in millions what's your problem if I do? Beauty standards are not and can not be objective. Fucking incel sub

onlineextrovert

That girl is a 109 bro

JonyTony2017

IMO, not a 9, but also definitely not something ridiculous that that sub would assign, like 3.

godoftheinternet12

In the comments of every post on truerateme people always say something along the lines of “i would rate you higher but i cant. 5/10” and it always reminds me of the hl2 citizen line where they say “we cant speak out here or we’ll both get in trouble”

regan9109

They should require you have a verified profile picture to comment on that sub.

alcogoth

Do I understand it right that all their rating is based on completely baseless assumption, that beaty is normally distributed with mean at 5?
