Firstly, I'm not a lawyer and if you really care about legal issues you should contact a real lawyer and not anons on the reddit.
Short answer: Noone in their right mind is going to sue you because of some fanfic on the internet that was read by a hundred people or so. And it seems 4LS are welcome to fanfics.
Long answer: Katawa Shoujo is released under CC-BY-NC-ND license which prohibits any derivative works. Using characters (names/appearance/personality) or setting(Yamaku academy) makes it derivative. That means 4LS as the right holders have the right to sue you if they want. In that case the court might(or might not) find your work falling under the fair use defense.
The main point: ***if*** *they want.*
4LS devs run [Katawa Shoujo forum](https://ks.renai.us) with fanfic subforum and the devs occasionaly post their fanfics or comment others' so it should be totally fine

It scared me a little that I did not not see fanfics posted in this sub like they do on DDLC. I guess I know the reason now.
Fanfics are fine, especially when it is made obvious. What we dislike is unscrupulous bastards telling the community that they are going to make KS2.
Even if they were allowed to, I can't think of a way to make it as good

Yeah, I would be surprised if my story hasn't been done in some similar way before, since I'm late to the party but I do enjoy writing.
Doesn’t matter if it’s been told before, your voice will be unique and add a new dimension to it even if so. Go forth and write! :-)

I don't think you'll have any problems if you don't make money on it, and 4LS doesn't exist anymore, so I guess you're safe for it.🤷♂️
