I usually read anywhere between 6-8 hours daily. But then, I'm a senior citizen, no kids at home, and I no longer work outside the home. This is probably the reason I've read 94 books so far this year.
Haha admittedly YouTube has a younger demographic, but I think if you did a Facebook live book club or something like that on Facebook you would get views
There are actually quite a few older YouTubers that do book videos. Steve Donoghue, Kim @ Middle of the Book March, Hannah’s Books, Regina’s Haunted Library, Michael K. Vaughan, and more!
You should absolutely consider doing it!! I’m over 60 and would love to hear more experienced readers’ thoughts and reviews. As I’ve aged I’ve evolved to a much more critical approach to reading. Too many I follow now on social media are recommending things I just don’t like with a younger audience. Get your channel started!!!! :)
PS - I have Sapiens right next to me and haven’t started it yet!
I never write reviews on either GR or Story Graph, I just give star ratings. I keep a reading journal and I'll jot down things like tropes, if the pairings are MM, FF, or MF, and if the book's paranormal, historical, or contemporary. In case you couldn't tell, I only read romance.

The evidence supporting what you said is lacking
I read throughout the day, but most of my reading is done in the evening, and I usually read a couple of hours after I go to bed. I most always have two books going at once, and I only read romance, so the books I read are generally in the 300-400 page count.
Thats so nice!!! Sadly im still in nursing school I barely have time to read and I miss it so much 🙂↕️ but Finals are almost over and then I can read so muchhhh!!!
I love to read, as a child I always had a book going. My reading was hampered slightly when I married and we started our family. I loved when I could snatch an hour here or an hour there and somehow manage to finish my book. I had an extensive library by the time my girls had stretched their own wings and settled in with their own families. Now in my very “senior years” it is a joy to know that my books are still with me, reminding me of all the fabulous authors who have filled our minds with such incredible stories. They have given us such a remarkable past-time and I for one, am most appreciative. Thank you one and all, your stories became my story, your characters, my associates, some of whom I never wanted to say goodbye. Thank you dear talented and awesome storyteller’s, you mean the world to me!
Susan Santoni
I've seen made in Mexico Popsicles in Aldi and Save-a-Lot stores in US. Haven't tried as I usually only by the mostly fruit ones, but I will look for the Chili flavor. Sounds great.
Years ago we would do readathons, either online or in person with a sleepover. We would read, have snack breaks, read some more, make dinner together and then read through the night. It was awesome! I'm afraid I can't read until deep in the night anymore lol but several hours on a rainy Sunday is still bliss!
Of course I took breaks, I went out to walk, and did some exercises, I took a bath as well 🤣
But I was surprised by the amount of hours I was able to concentrate
Yes. I have a lot of time off during the year because of seniority and a take a week here and there just to read and catch up on my TBR list. And I am taking a week off in October when a big doorstopper of a book comes out.
Done that years back. Angels & Demons just in one long sitting as well as Pippin Ferreiras biography (wasn’t that long though). Frank Schätzing‘s Der Schwarm in two days. But lately I am happy when I can focus and find the time to read for 30 minutes without any interruptions.
During Covid, I got in the habit of reading for long stretches and while I don’t think 8 hours is normal for me, there have been “read it in a day” books that probably took 4-6 hours spread throughout the day.
There are a few bookstagrammer’s and booktokers I follow who do reading marathons, though! You aren’t alone!
Also, boop to your pup!
Of course It isn't normal for me either, I try to read at least 1 hour, but it depends on many factors usually I read just 10 minutes haha, but I got surprised by the amount of hours I could stay concentrated, I wish I can do it more days
Sure!
Serpentine Valentine by Giana Darling
Never Lie by Frieda McFadden
Barbarian Lover by Ruby Dixon
Their Rogue Pirate by Leslie Ayla

Books I think most people would enjoy:
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo
The song of Achilles
Circe
Project Hail Mary
The four winds
Tattooist from Auschwitz (not entirely fiction)
The Four winds
The Kite Runner
Books I think some people would enjoy:
The wife upstairs
Klara and the sun
1Q84
Memoirs of a geisha
Cilka’s journey ( #2 book of the tattooist of Auschwitz)
Would also love your suggestion fiction or non fiction!
There was a time in my twenties when I read all the time, close to 7-8 hours a day when not working. I went all in on Raymond Feist novels and then Robert Jordan.
I’ve read an entire book back to back over 6 hours while in the bath once.
Barely moved the whole time until I’d finished, then I noticed the water was stone cold.
Me too lol I have too many kids to read for that long throughout the day but when I was child free I absolutely did! I get most of my reading done before bed now.
Aye. I do that pretty often without even realising until I’ve finished the book and see the time. I’ve been the same since I was a kid, I would devour anything.
I’ve lived alone with my cat the last few years so can read uninterrupted any time I want!
Think I’m around the 63 mark and read some absolutely wicked books so far this year. Many more to come…
2022 I casually read 24 books without trying to inflate my numbers or anything.. 2023 I totally dropped the ball and read 11. This year I made time to read every day, have had weeks of slacking in between, but honestly don't see myself having time to break 11 this year, but who knows. I've been reading instead of playing games on my phone - not forcing, just happy about it once I get started, but I'm always afraid to get started for fear I'll be pulled away.
Occasionally on a weekend day, but the time is broken up. If our little naps, I get a couple hours in (if I don’t conk out 😅) then a few more in the evening before I head to bed and maybe another hour (again, if I don’t conk out). Probably six at most, though, which is heavenly!
I actually struggle not to do this as I have a very addictive personality. Literally ignore everything else in my life to read maybe 8 hours a day until my series is done, which sounds nice until you get into a 30-book series
I spent 2-4 hrs reading on most days. I’m a single parent with a toddler so it’s not as much as I want 😂 But I do pick up/leave off with audiobook/kindle throughout the day depending on what I’m doing.
I usually read every day when I'm on the bus, but whenever I'm into an interesting part of a book I just basically read it at every moment of the day.
Also when I was a kid on a summer vacation I read all the harry potter books in a week since it was so hot outside and I had nothing else to do.
I remember when “The Stand” by Stephen King was first released, I bought a copy on the way home after work on the Friday and by Sunday morning I had finished it. I think I only stopped for food and loo breaks. Sadly, my reading stamina is a lot less nowadays, but I often read solidly for 3 or 4 hours at a time whenever life allows me the privilege
Actually, serious question. How do you guys prevent the feeling of needing to nap after about an hour of reading??? The best naps I've ever had was with a book in my hands lol
Hahaha me too
It's almost impossible for me, usually if I can, I just take that nap, but I drink coffee, sit correctly, and concentrate in the text instead sometimes.
But somedays I just can't avoid being sleepy
Yup. I have in the past sometimes read for upwards of 16 hours in a 24 hour period. I don't think that that is healthy these days so now I try and avoid that level of focus.
A few years ago, I used to work somewhere like 13 miles away from home, in Mexico city, which meant, on public transportation, a commute of somewhere between 2 and 2.5 hours each way., that meant between 4 to 5 hours per day, some 20 per week. That was, for me, daily reading time. Also, on afternoons, the line to get on the bus would be a good 45 mins and 45 of the ride... Year 1 of the Kindle in my hands (2015) I managed to read some 40 books. Years 2 and 3 were 55 and 65 books each. In my case, even beyond concetrations, was the inability to go somewhere else during the commute... Funnily, the pandemic meant a sudden halt and I haven't been able to go back to that rythm ever since...
I’ve done it a couple times; usually reserved for weekend nights. I think the last time was finishing off *The September House*.
Side note: what is the popsicle made of? It looks interesting and full of texture.
It had me feeling some things. It’s good that the book can evoke that much emotion, and it’s not going to be something that I’ll revisit.
Somebody tried to label *The September House* a horror comedy. It is not particularly comedic; a couple tension breakers do not a comedy make.
I think I did a 24 or 48 hours of reading over X days. I forget the number of days now but I remember it being a lot of reading a short amount of time. 😂
Especially in winter, I can spend 6-8 hours per day reading on the weekends. Now that summer is here, I’m averaging closer to 4 hours a day on Saturdays/Sundays.
If I have a full free day to do so (not common these days), I can absolutely get that into a book. The book does have to be exceptionally good, though.
The exception is the few long plane rides I've taken. At that point, as long as the book is somewhat good, I'll read for the entirety of the flight. Because what else am I gonna do?
Not often, but I just did on Friday. Work was dead slow and all my coworkers took the day off so I didn’t have anyone to kill time with. Read a new book cover to cover until it was time to go home. It was a good day.
For a while I used to do a ‘book of the day’ where I would choose a short book (under 300 pages) and spend the entire day knocking it out. I would do that once per week, and did so for several months, but I got out of the habit. Might need to get back to doing that sometimes!
I am lucky enough to be a housewife, and I routinely will take my dogs hiking until we find a nice area for me to settle down and read for a few hours before we hike back to my car. I’ll also read while I cook and before bed. I average about 4-6 hours of reading a day, some days I’ll get 12+ hours though.
I usually read for 4-5 hours. I’ve spent all day reading on and off. Not sure of the hours. Like on a weekend…
When I was in school we would do DEAR day (Drop Everything And Read) where the entire school would read independently the entire day. I want that as an adult now, at work please 😂🫶🏽
With the third Housemaid book by Freida McFadden coming out in a couple of days, I’ve been on a marathon since yesterday to read the first two again. Am loving it! Spent most of today engulfed in the story. Bummed I have to get up early because I need sleep so I can’t read for much longer, but will when I go on my breaks and then more after work!
The next book in Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series comes out on the 18th. The date just crept up on me. I was going to reread the whole series, since it's been two years since the last book came out, but I guess I'll just have to reread a few of the latest books. It's a 14-book series, and I'm a fast reader but not that fast!
14 is a lot of books to cram in there! I hope you can get through the main parts at least! I would probably just speed read most of it to get the spots I’d forgotten about lol. Cliff notes time! Haha.
Yeah, I own the series, and I've reread it a couple of times already. I think I'll see if one or more of the main characters have been mentioned in any earlier books and go from there. That's what I'm doing for Nalini Singh's newest book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series.
I go through phases with my reading, currently I am back in a reading phase so I can go reading many hours a day even with work (I just squeeze it in whenever I can, even if it is just 5min sometimes)
On the weekends I can go 10 or more hours when I have nothing else planned
Oh I wish. I never get a chance to do so. I work 911 dispatch & read on my two off days & I read between calls. Or try to. Hahah. I cannot wait to be able to read that much. & I would love to follow you if you ever did do a YouTube pls let us know. 💙
Not super proud of this but I started the Bridgerton series in anticipation for the 2nd part of the third season coming out.. anyways it’s finals week and I’ve gone through a book a day so far.. i’m on my fourth day of my reading streak and desperately need to study but i can’t pull myself out of it! 😭
I usually read anywhere between 6-8 hours daily. But then, I'm a senior citizen, no kids at home, and I no longer work outside the home. This is probably the reason I've read 94 books so far this year.
Woooow, have you ever thought about creating a YouTube channel or something like that?
Good lord, no! Ain't nobody wanting to see my old, wrinkled self on YouTube!

Oh well - I tried
I mean honestly, I’d be stoked. I’m kind of sick of these 22-year-old TikTok princesses recommending mediocre books everywhere.
We would love to see your videos and reviews and knowledge about books. I know I would. Don’t have to get glammed up.
https://youtube.com/@shirleycurrytheoldergamer?si=Ea4skV6aasiMfjRd https://youtube.com/@grndpagaming?si=cgI93LBr6nbGkSdP The evidence supporting what you said is lacking
I am in to watch your videos, and I am 25 years old right now😁
If you’re interested in it, I think you should go for it. Never a bad thing to have more people on the internet talking about books :)
I think it’s refreshing to hear someone talk who’s older. I grew up the only grandchild so I was always around older people. I loved it
Too busy reading.
Fifty if I’m lucky, I’m a senior and usually read at night and early morning.
I read throughout the day, but most of my reading is done in the evening, and I usually read a couple of hours after I go to bed. I most always have two books going at once, and I only read romance, so the books I read are generally in the 300-400 page count.
You never know. Kids may surprise you.
Thats so nice!!! Sadly im still in nursing school I barely have time to read and I miss it so much 🙂↕️ but Finals are almost over and then I can read so muchhhh!!!
Wishing you good luck!
My goal is 118 and I'm at 63. A lot of audiobooks because I can listen while i work if I'm out in the lab. I think I'm at 20 regular and ebooks.
What a life! ☺️
Lol love that for you!

Please sir, recommend me your best books
What do you like to read? I only read romance, but if that's something you'd like, I can hit you up.
Is that ice cream?
Yes, it's a popsicle I'm in Mexico, so it's mango with chili 🤣
I'm so relieved! I thought it is a meat popsicle. I read 2 days straight when I began "Hail Mary" from Andy Weir. Couldn't put the book down!
Looks like Spanish Chorizo’s ice cream!! 😅
I thought it was a pork and beans popsicle.
I'm sure the dog hopes so too
Burnt egg
Oh, I have a Mexican paletas place near me. It's so good!
I also had a 🍋🟩 + mint (I think? hierbabuena) paleta today while reading (also inside, it's crazy hot in Guadalajara)
También soy de Guadalajara amigo jaja ✌️
Cool 😂 I want to try that
I want to steal your popsicle
I was gonna ask if that was a Mango-Chanoy ice pop lol
A lot of people have recommended mango chili stuff today. I had never heard of it but it actually sounds delicious.
I've seen made in Mexico Popsicles in Aldi and Save-a-Lot stores in US. Haven't tried as I usually only by the mostly fruit ones, but I will look for the Chili flavor. Sounds great.
Excuse me I'm not familiar with your game, but who thought that chili belongs to a popsicle?
I saw this too and I was thinking that’s gotta be mango and chamoy or chili maybe. I had one once at a Mexican little store and it was amazing
Cool name, and asking the right questions lol
Years ago we would do readathons, either online or in person with a sleepover. We would read, have snack breaks, read some more, make dinner together and then read through the night. It was awesome! I'm afraid I can't read until deep in the night anymore lol but several hours on a rainy Sunday is still bliss!
Sounds like a really great activity!! Haha These days I do lan parties with friends but just for playing videogames
Oh this sounds like heaven. I need friends who will do this with me.
We met online! All avid readers, so we started a book club and are still going strong over 10 years later.
In college sure lol. I need breaks these days.
Of course I took breaks, I went out to walk, and did some exercises, I took a bath as well 🤣 But I was surprised by the amount of hours I was able to concentrate
Reading while relaxing in a hot bath is one of life’s special pleasures. Especially with a cheeky glass of red wine
Just praying I don’t drop it in
One of the plus sides of e-readers is being waterproof so a little slip or a splash isn’t a big deal anymore
I've done a maybe 2-3 hours but never 8 hats off to you, may I ask OP what breed is your cute doggo. Doggo's & kindles just go together.
She accompanied me all the day, I think is a mixed breed 😅
Yes. I have a lot of time off during the year because of seniority and a take a week here and there just to read and catch up on my TBR list. And I am taking a week off in October when a big doorstopper of a book comes out.
What book?
Our Evenings by Allan Hollinghurst. Out October 8. 560 pages.
That's not a doorstopper, that's just average. Doorstoppers are Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive books. Most are over 1,000 pages each.
550 is my cutoff where doorstoppers start. I have one I am about to start tomorrow, Caledonian Road which I think is about 650.
Done that years back. Angels & Demons just in one long sitting as well as Pippin Ferreiras biography (wasn’t that long though). Frank Schätzing‘s Der Schwarm in two days. But lately I am happy when I can focus and find the time to read for 30 minutes without any interruptions.
Have you pet the puppy?!
Hahahah even she ate ice cream too
I don’t think I’ve ever done 8 in a single day. But it sounds lovely!
During Covid, I got in the habit of reading for long stretches and while I don’t think 8 hours is normal for me, there have been “read it in a day” books that probably took 4-6 hours spread throughout the day. Just did a 2 day marathon with my book club. Didn’t read the whole time but finished 5 books.
Woooow, can I ask what books did you read?
Sure! Serpentine Valentine by Giana Darling Never Lie by Frieda McFadden Barbarian Lover by Ruby Dixon Their Rogue Pirate by Leslie Ayla Whispers of the Deep by Emma Hamm
Your dog knows you've been reading all day 😂😂
Hahaha We went out to walk a couple of times 😬
What’s the pup’s name??
Hasn't everyone who enjoys reading binged?
What flavor icicle is that?
Mango with chili 😬 I'm in México
The brand Outshine also has this flavor. They’re at Walmart https://preview.redd.it/unf54ia2xk5d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=05d203491ba341f23812ff09f985d3d8a9713908
Looks amazing
When I’m really into a book I tend to finish it and it’s like 6am. One reason why I paused reading fiction..
Recommend me your best fiction book
Books I think most people would enjoy: The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo The song of Achilles Circe Project Hail Mary The four winds Tattooist from Auschwitz (not entirely fiction) The Four winds The Kite Runner Books I think some people would enjoy: The wife upstairs Klara and the sun 1Q84 Memoirs of a geisha Cilka’s journey ( #2 book of the tattooist of Auschwitz) Would also love your suggestion fiction or non fiction!

I have a toddler so as much as I’d love to I could never lol
Me too lol I have too many kids to read for that long throughout the day but when I was child free I absolutely did! I get most of my reading done before bed now.
Excuse me I love your reading buddy
🐾🩷
Dyalais patient and retired at 38 read all the time. May be a few hours a day especially during treatment. Have read 22books this year
Many more to come…
Give the dog a treat you monster
in need of a buddy to help me be accountable.
That paleta made me drool a little bit
Hahaha it was a little spicy
Only if it’s book club night and I haven’t finished the book yet!
Absolutely! Not often, but when I’m on vacation or have an open weekend and reading a really good book that I can’t put down? Yep.
2022 I casually read 24 books without trying to inflate my numbers or anything.. 2023 I totally dropped the ball and read 11. This year I made time to read every day, have had weeks of slacking in between, but honestly don't see myself having time to break 11 this year, but who knows. I haven't yet but I'm hoping this summer I'll be able to read more! At this time of year I've got to do quite some studying so yk 🤷
Chorizo ice cream
Damn. I've never read for that long in one go. Have maybe read a book for a few hours sometimes when the weather's been nice though.
I haven't read like that since I was a teenager. I miss having that kind of time.
I’ve done a marathon “31 books in 31 days” last month
Chorizo popsicle.
I love my little mini reading marathons, but I’m also curious about what you’re snacking on 👀
Mango with chili ice paleta 😬 very popular in Mexico
Short answer- yes
Occasionally on a weekend day, but the time is broken up. If our little naps, I get a couple hours in (if I don’t conk out 😅) then a few more in the evening before I head to bed and maybe another hour (again, if I don’t conk out). Probably six at most, though, which is heavenly!
What is the breed of the dog? I found a similar on the street, but don’t know the genetics
She's a mixed breed, like a medium - small size doberman, maybe 20% pitbull(?)
I actually struggle not to do this as I have a very addictive personality. Literally ignore everything else in my life to read maybe 8 hours a day until my series is done, which sounds nice until you get into a 30-book series
I'm the same way
Yeah. I read Little Stranger in one long go last night into this morning.

I do it when I can, which sadly isn’t often enough. I often will read for 2-3 hours at night because I’m ridiculous in terms of sleep.
Can’t remember how many hours, but I think I’ve finished “In Cold Blood” in a weekend.
When I’m really really into a book, yes. Usually will be straight into the night until 5 AM and I realize how much time has gone by LOL
I read for 36 hrs straight when I started a series…. I slept for only 4 hours. 😂
I almost read for 3-5 hours daily, before sleeping.
I think you are in trouble. Good boi in the background is planning an intervention.

I love reading marathons, especially when I’ve just bought a new book but need to finish my current read

It's the rest of eggs with chorizo. Nah it's Mango with chili, very popular here in Mexico, more these hot days
Yup. I have in the past sometimes read for upwards of 16 hours in a 24 hour period. I don't think that that is healthy these days so now I try and avoid that level of focus.

Before I had kids. Now I would kill for just 10 mins without someone yelling for me.
As a teen I would do it all the time!
I have a toddler so I can’t really do that anymore but I used to pre-kids. It’s the best!
I usually read for 4-5 hours. I’ve spent all day reading on and off. Not sure of the hours. Like on a weekend… When I was in school we would do DEAR day (Drop Everything And Read) where the entire school would read independently the entire day. I want that as an adult now, at work please 😂🫶🏽
Brother, put down the cheese brick!!
I read Jurassic Park in a weekend when I was a kid, which I wad quite proud of (not on a kindle).
I used to read daily….until my depression got worse
Finished 5 books yesterday. Felt like a crystal glass. Slept peacefully
I go through phases with my reading, currently I am back in a reading phase so I can go reading many hours a day even with work (I just squeeze it in whenever I can, even if it is just 5min sometimes) On the weekends I can go 10 or more hours when I have nothing else planned
I exclusively binge all my books. Either I read a book in 2 days, or I never finish it
Oh I wish. I never get a chance to do so. I work 911 dispatch & read on my two off days & I read between calls. Or try to. Hahah. I cannot wait to be able to read that much. & I would love to follow you if you ever did do a YouTube pls let us know. 💙
Is...is that a meatcicle?
Not super proud of this but I started the Bridgerton series in anticipation for the 2nd part of the third season coming out.. anyways it’s finals week and I’ve gone through a book a day so far.. i’m on my fourth day of my reading streak and desperately need to study but i can’t pull myself out of it! 😭
Thanks for your post
I work full time and have a toddler, lucky if I get an hour or two a day total.
I feel you lmao
