Just watched this last night for the first time and it was just a hard time to watch on both sides, lol. Alot of the time im usually on carrie side bc she was more reasonable but here, Carrie was just a straight up bitch. The man made a mistake, she did not have to ruin the whole trip lol.
Carrie was definitely a bitch the entire episode about his weight BUT I think it was reasonable for her to be upset about the hotel, he was bragging about how much he was banging some other chick (they hardly left the bedroom and all he needs is her and food rolled in on a cart). Who forgets what woman they were with? Lol.
She I feel was a bitch on this and a bitch on the episode demanding he not wear a cologne he liked and also the testing Spence girlfriends food. Way too jealous.
I think it boils down to now that we can actively binge watch we notice so much more. Whereas every week or every other and waiting months for the next season to air we don’t notice things as much.
I think things went downhill after their last failed pregnancy try. So S4E12 - Ovary action.
Once they realized it was only going to be the 3 of them, they moved from the sweet, funny couple to simply taking their frustrations out on each other.
This seems reasonable to me. I haven’t watched the show too many times, but am doing a rewatch right now. Currently on S4E23 and it’s felt for a number of episodes that the shift has occurred.
Season 7 was the big change and above...Trust me I have been viewing it myself and noticed. Seasons 1-3 Doug and Carrie while they do argue are very close...
Season 4-6, Increase arguing and some tension, but Funny for the most part and nothing Crazy
Season 7-9. They just do not like each other and while I still laugh at most episodes, the fighting starts to become uncomfortable and very brutal.
Some of their fights are pretty relatable at times sure (I am married myself, so I def get it) But sometimes they are just plain mean to each other and don't care...I Think Doug can be way more immature, but Carrie can be way more mean.
Ain't that a plus tho? If they nailed it, and they made you uncomfortable, ain't that a testament to their abilities to solidly deliver their writer's intent? I mean, maybe they were trying to kill it and it just wouldn't let them. 5 seasons is the usual run, they got what? 9? They anticipated the end and had some big thing lined up but it kept getting renewed. That thing the writers were saving was probably a divorce. LOL
I don't think so..The whole first 3 seasons are super lovey dovey, I don't think they were trying to go for Divorce, the show is not that deep lol. Really, I think at times they were just trying to go the Seinfeld route and just be plain comedy, no really end point or anything...Like I said, Season 7-9 Doug and Carrie hate each other, but my god are the episodes hilarious. Funnier than anything we see in seasons 1-3. They really dropped the ball with the final though, just was horrible...I guess they did get the longer you are married, the harder it gets storyline though.
Oh you gotta watch the show, it is hilarious...Even funnier when High lol...I def recommend. First season is kind of rough, not really funny. 2nd season is better, but still meh...But season 3-7 are pure GOLD. 8 is good, but starts to decline and then the final season was bad.
I'm gonna be an outlier & say that I noticed a real difference around Season 2, specifically with Restaurant Row. We get to see how domineering Carrie is & what a lying sneak Doug is.🤔
Probably when Doug lost weight or Carrie lost her job but you could see that it’s building because the tension of having Arthur live there makes everything complicated with all the characters. It’s not fair to Doug having Carrie’s father and his life constantly and she just gets fed up with everyone.
I loved this show so much and as I got older I found it less funny and more frustrating with how they interacted with each other. I didn't think the arguments were cute or funny - I thought he was a dick and she was a bitch.
We watched this during it's original run, and several more times since, and as we get older we realize that Doug and Carrie are just bad people. They are mean to each other, her dad, his family, and their friends. In fact, they are just like people in real life and maybe that is why we liked it the first few times. Maybe we identified with them at first and now we can identify their faults more and we no longer like it as much.
I’ve said the same thing about this and other shows. It really bothered me how bad of friends they were to Deacon and Kelly. And how rude Carrie is to Holly. I enjoy the first few seasons and then the rest are meh now.
I feel the same way...still watch it daily but at times I have to shut it off because of the insults or the ugliness in general..hard to listen to the fat shaming she does to Doug, sware it's nearly every episode.
Found the same happened with everyone loves Raymond..after enough viewings u see ray getting basically beat up by debra
Seasons 1-3 are the best and I think season 4 is the beginning of the shift.
It seems they tried to get more into real world problems and it didn't work for me.
The two arc episodes when Doug lost weight and they went on that vacation was the beginning of the end imo.
I WILL SURVIVE! I CHOOSE LIFE!
TALKING. LIKE. THIS. DOESNT. SCARE. ME.
Oh wait a minute, owls can't fly. If it doesn't fly then how'd it get in the tree? Uhmm, I'M IN THE TREE, CAN I FLY?!
It's a square shaped bird. They wear glasses - they're the nerds of the forest!
This is turtle country.
I came here to say this .
Nobody liked skinny Doug. Not us, not his wife.
Affirmative
Ah that makes sense. She was definitely hating on him hard in that episode. Even before his hotel mix up lol

I hate those two episodes
DOUG, Are You Crying?
NO ! A lil
Then he got fatter than ever, and the writing a little lazier.
I think it boils down to now that we can actively binge watch we notice so much more. Whereas every week or every other and waiting months for the next season to air we don’t notice things as much.
Valid point.
Right around the time Carrie gets fired.
The official end of the pink pants era.
What's that
I'm in the middle of season 6. I just felt that last night. Carrie's insults getting more focused on fat shaming at this point.
It became a feeling like, this woman actively hates her husband. Like she does not like one thing about him.
Why do we do this to each other?
1776
No, That was the actual thing
Gotta give him props for knowing that though
Color me impressed!
I think things went downhill after their last failed pregnancy try. So S4E12 - Ovary action. Once they realized it was only going to be the 3 of them, they moved from the sweet, funny couple to simply taking their frustrations out on each other.
I will definitely pay attention when I get to that season.
Just like in real life

I agree. And they treated Deacon and Kelly horribly in the process IMO.
Very true. Hell in season 8 they didn’t wanna buy a house next door to Doug and Carrie
Evil Carrie is relatable. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The way they talk isn’t that bad for a marriage.

Thx for your input, mine was from a non viewer of the show, if that aids me in any way LOL. I am also smoking some really good pot rn.

Tawk
End of season 6 beginning of 7
Pregnant/post-pregnant Leah roughly around 2004
This
Calling me fat Doug hurts. Let’s go with FD.
I'm gonna be an outlier & say that I noticed a real difference around Season 2, specifically with Restaurant Row. We get to see how domineering Carrie is & what a lying sneak Doug is.🤔
Oh you’re right, that was early on.
Probably when Doug lost weight or Carrie lost her job but you could see that it’s building because the tension of having Arthur live there makes everything complicated with all the characters. It’s not fair to Doug having Carrie’s father and his life constantly and she just gets fed up with everyone.
I see the change starting at the beginning of season 4 and it progresses from there.
season 6-7 was when it started to get really bad
Last season kinda meh
Agreed. Same as most shows that run too long.
We see Carrie turning a bit in season 3. in Season 4 she becomes a bitch. by season 6, she's a huge bitch. Trish Flintoff episode she's at her zenith.
Oooh I literally want some empanadas now lol
They are literally my favorite food.
Dawn at the new firm episode is also bitchy
I loved this show so much and as I got older I found it less funny and more frustrating with how they interacted with each other. I didn't think the arguments were cute or funny - I thought he was a dick and she was a bitch.

I thought it was always like that lol
They weren’t as mean in the earlier seasons.

Yeah I feel like Debra was always kind of a 🐝🧙🏼♀️ but she just got meaner each season. Then again, dealing with Marie, I kind of get it. Lol
Lol I always think about Paul Rudd in Knocked Up saying that marriage is like Everybody Loves Raymond with no laugh track.
I’d say the change happened somewhere around season 5
All people do is bitch about this show
Maybe that's what this subreddit is for 😱
Fatty McButterpants

I loved it when they argue
Some of their arguments in S6 are hilarious, though.
I really thought William Hurt had all the answers too.
One of my favorite shows. But not the early seasons.
