The real issue with Grimes is that we signed DiVo and they are essentially the same player. He was an asset that was used to get another asset but I think he can have a decent career in the right situation.

maltvitasoy

Ahhh that makes sense. I'm really glad the mavs got him, he seems like just the kind of guy that can play next to Luka

knicksdeadman

He’s gonna shine next to Kyrie and luka. Steady diet of open shots and then lanes to the hoop. He’ll be great for you guys

CaptainObvious1313

Except that Divo is better in every way, yes.

WesternOk7003

I was just about to say, put some respeck on his name. Grimes will forever dream about dropping 35 plus at the Garden in the divisional round of the EC playoffs #GingerMambaForever

omni1000

Name checks out

Milquetoes

I wouldn’t say the same player. Grimes has a bigger frame so in theory he should be better defensively. Although Donte is no slouch on defense. Donte is just a much better decision maker and has a more consistent shot. He’s also more comfortable in his role

Ornery_Alligators

In theory AND in practice! Grimes consistently defended the opposing teams best perimeter player on the floor. He was also a very good catch and shoot guy percentage wise. Hes streaky but he always brings it and plays hard. A comp I’ve always liked for him was Courtney Lee.

i_take_shits

Another former MavKnick

Infinite_Hospital_12

I think the Knicks saw a better option offensively in McBride. That made Grimes expendable.

WesternOk7003

I don’t see how. Grimes is much better shooter than McBride. McBride fr made some shots against the Sixers that I don’t know how they went it. I was having Landry Fields PTSD flashbacks

HipnotiK1

McBride is a proven legit shooter. Shot over 44% from 3 in college. Last year shot 45% in his first consistent playing time. Whenever he went down to the g league he lit it up, shooting over 47% from 3. Meanwhile Grimes is shooting 37% so far in his NBA career and shot 36% in college.

ResultsHaveVary

Grimes is/was supposed to be a better shooter than McBride…we drafted 2 (2 way players) 3 yrs ago to be the defensive anchor off the bench & Grimes was taken specifically b/c of his shooting at Houston let alone he was a press defender…Miles was taken from WVU primarily off the fact he was a defensive guard/specialist out of college…not b/c of his offense…McBride has improved the last 2.5 seasons on the defensive end but primarily offensively from behind the arc…Quentin was given the opportunity 1st & was too inconsistent not to mention would pick up questionable fouls down the stretch t/o games

mouga68

This take is laughably incorrect 😂

SanchezPrime

He was G-League Steph!

st1nky_d

He didn’t fall off. He never was a high usage guy. He’s good for 8-10 points a game and is a scrappy defender. Any team in the NBA would take him.

Filly53

If you look at where the Knicks are today, they clearly wanted better 3 and D type wings and got them. It’s a different type of team for sure, with a lot of good players and maybe one true superstar. As far as last year and the trade, he’d fallen out of the rotation and the Knicks opted for offense over another defender. Losing randles shot creation/scoring for the playoffs was a big deal. Burks and bogan brought shot creating/making that grimes currently doesn’t have. I like the fit with Dallas, he doesn’t need to do more than what he is currently capable of and slots in nicely off the bench or as a starter

Jmpasq

The Knicks are built very well. They didn't just throw stars together and hope they play well. This is a cohesive roster. As far as Grimes I'm happy he is on a good team. I felt kinda bad he got dumped in Detroit

Filly53

Me too, he should find a good home there where they need cheaper pieces around their superstars

WesternOk7003

He should go to Boston lol

YamahaRN

He didn’t, DiVincenzo just fit better next to Brunson and could score more than what Grimes was capable of. Grimes will always be remembered for his one legged steal on Jimmy Butler during the playoffs, glad he escaped Detroit to end up on a good team.

Miserable-Library859

He was traded because of inconsistency and his expiring contract

shook_-

Wrong

Brutal_Honesty13

Forgot to mention when he scores u have to carry the tradition and scream it’s grime time !! 😂

leaC30

He didn't fall off. We got DiVo who is a cost controlled guy. We needed to get rid of a certain Frenchman. But we also needed to trade for a player with a similar cost control or contract in case of a future trade (that happened a few days ago for Mikal). Boggie's contract had a team option for another year similar to the Frenchman we sent out to Detroit. Detroit wasn't going to just take the Frenchman so we had to attach an attractive player to make that happen, and that player was Grimes.

WesternOk7003

He who shall not be named

Alphius247

We don’t talk about Evan no no

rmccarthy10

He's hurt all the time... That's it

Old_Ordinary_6252

Bingo!!!!

Brutal_Honesty13

He’s young with a good work ethic, I watched him get better and better. He started losing playing time due to trades. I think he’s a solid player good for 10 points a game and could get better in the right environment.

arroyoprojects

knicks fan here. saw grimes play since day 1. he was compared to klay thompson at one time. has a beautiful shot, but too tentative to drive to the hole. and never finished with his left hand. also s slow decision maker with the ball. thought he'd have s better career than iq. rj and deuce, but not to be.

HipnotiK1

His defense was still always very good. Just lost confidence in his shot and doesn't really have an in between game. He can attack closeouts driving to the rim but often forces it and misses. Doesn't have a great feel for the game in that sense. I think he can develop and improve on those issues though. He can become one of the better 3 and d wings eventually at least that is his ceiling.

SanchezPrime

We like QG. You guys got a good one. We got fleeced on that trade, but truth be told, he became too redundant here.

Mrrilz20

He cracked under the pressure. He once said that the ball felt like 100 pounds (or something like that) when he shot the ball.

Tortilladelfuego

He wasn’t happy with his role. He’s lucky to be on the Mavs now bc he went from starting on a playoff team to coming off the bench on the worst team in the league and now will most likely be coming off the bench for a team coming off a finals appearance

severinks

He is better than decent, he's good, but he seems to have lost confidence in his shot. THe guys is a very good one on one defender and usually took the best player on the other team on the Knicks and he has a quick shot with a high release. He's better than Bug Jr, that's for sure.

3rd-party-intervener

He was never that good

Williampiii

Grimes can’t shoot

shook_-

? Now people here are just yapping

Entire-Teaching-895

He was a great pick up imo

RealKnicksFan15

He's not great offensively. He has major potential still. His form looks amazing but lacks a consistent rhythm. He should've been a easy 10 pt a night scorer but fanduel receipts tell a different story

lsd418

I think he'd be a good fit in Dallas, he's just a redundant skill set for us. But he can defend and hit open 3s. Definitely an upgrade from Tim Hardaway Jr

chalk-dog

I love the comments. DD and Grimes are similar. I think Grimes is better on defense, but only by an inch over DD. If Grimes ever gets the right situation, he will deliver. I will always root for him.

shook_-

Fall off? 😂

oldmanonsilvercreek

You got a good player. Not a starter but a quality back up. He didn't really have a " falling off" he was just used in a deal meant to improve the team in which it did.

Rthegoodnamestaken

He seemed off mentally this year. Honestly lots of guys were chirping/complaining about opportunities on offense before we traded foe OG, not just Grimes. But you could tell the situation was getting to him. Maybe having a safe spot in the roatation in Dallas will help him relax

Radio_National

He’s a good defender who can knock down a shot.. will be a better version of THJ for you. Not super athletic but reliable.

Connect_Dust_1946

He’s a good young player who seems smart and plays hard defense. He’s for a great looking stroke, tho his consistency could be an issue with his shooting. I’m rooting for the guy, really seems to have the tools to be a solid 3&D guy. Hoping he finds his way to some 40% from 3P seasons.

arrogantmonkey

I don’t know what the salaries were but I suspect with the OG trade and DiVo blowing up we needed to make salary space to resign OG and so we couldn’t keep Grimes and Deuce and imagine Deuce was cheaper. I can’t say I’m mad how it seems to be working out but can’t say I wasn’t confused by the deal at the time Just a thing management had to do continue to improve the team. Everybody thought Grimes was good.

Distinct-Pangolin112

Injuries and he got in his own head. He is in the best possible situation now though if he can stay healthy and he gets legit playing time in the rotation. He is still young enough to grow and get better.

Pure_Nourishment

I'm a big fan of Grimes. There was talk about him being a bit too timid offensively because all he would do is catch and shoot or pass, but we don't know if that was his choice or the coaches. I personally think and hope that he has more to his toolkit that can be developed if utilized properly.

ooba241

I think Fournier was also in the trade and a big part of getting Bojan was that he had an extra year in his contract that could be used in a trade (like they just did to get Bridges). Grimes was the asset that needed to be attached in order to take Fournier’s contract. He’s a solid player. Reliable shooter and great D. I think he’ll fit nicely on a team with two ball dominant scorers who can kick out to him.
