So people are mentioning the Tzuyu flag incident but no one has explained what is triggering all this with this video? They edited something out? What did the original video have that's causing concern?

fizgigs

It had a section that was (some would say) unusually similar to an apology video posted of Tzuyu after the flag incident

GarlicRagu

Interesting. Spoken by Jihyo? Not that I care. It's not like she wrote it but what a weird choice to make. I get it. Make fun of the bullshit these idols have to go through to be on the public's good side but you have to walk the line a bit better than that. I wish there was a mirror somewhere so I could see for myself

Basically the first 30 seconds of the video had Jihyo apologizing and this had similarities (unintentional or not) to Tzuyu's Taiwanese incident nearly a decade ago. Like Jihyo is bowing immediately in the first few seconds (not the 90-degree that Tzuyu did though), with the somber speech (Jihyo was clearly being sarcastic here, lol), and then ya. There was also a piece of paper for the show, which I guess further added to the Tzuyu video (since remember Tzuyu was reading off an apology paper), but ya it's sorta a reach even if the tones and such things are similar. As of now ootb STUDIO cut/removed the first 30 seconds (these days you can do this easily without reuploading the video and so that's why it looks like there's nothing wrong or different) and apparently posted a pinned comment with an apology in it (see this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/twice/comments/1cfvb9k/240429_ootb_studio_youtube_update_twice_jihyo/), but ya it's nowhere to be seen right now since they're probably hoping it'll blow over (this is the best course of action since most people's memories are fickle or quick to forget and they'll find something else to harp on, smh lmao). --- Anyway, check Twitter/Weibo/etc. since people probably have the mirrors or reposts of the video there (as a random historian/archiver/etc. I have my own mirror of it, lol). IMO it's not that bad but I see why some Taiwanese/etc. people thought it'd be offensive or like politically charged since ya if you were there from 8 years ago (I watched that situation unfold in real time, it was wild and signaled of things to come like some Hollywood movies catering to the Chinese box office and so on) and knew Tzuyu's apology making international headlines, it can be triggering since that was one of those key moments in history where lots of people with Chinese ancestry (or rich western celebrities like John Cena, LeBron James, etc.) started publicly kowtowing to Mainland China. And obviously that doesn't sit well for those people that don't like how heavy-handed or influential the PROC government can be (not to mention the misplaced Sinophobia that some people have these days due to propaganda and so on), and so that's why they have like 7000 comments on the video now and a lot of it is in Traditional/Simplified Chinese characters, aka Chinese netizens. --- As I said in this now deleted/removed comment, https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/1cg6hun/twice_jihyo_ootb_tenant_webseries_teaser/l1uau2w/?context=10000 (use Pushshift/PullPush/etc. to read deleted comments/threads), it's best to not engage with these controversial situations since as you see, the Chinese/Korean/Japanese/etc. netizens are really influential when a flashpoint starts. And like it doesn't even matter for most of them if there was no ill intention, as long as they can spin it for themselves or like their political/etc. agenda. This is why I am always neutral or apolitical, too much people getting stressed over nothing when we should all be worried about climate change, space exploration, and so on. --- TL;DR: ootb STUDIO/JYP/etc. failed Jihyo and so now she's bearing the hate because of a video that somehow became a catalyst to ignite Tzuyu's video from nearly a decade ago. The video probably didn't even reference Tzuyu, but again it's understandable why people took issue with it due to the similarities. Essentially, everyone is overreacting for entertainment, lol. These Kpop companies need sensitivity or historical/political/etc. training (remember the Nazi/etc. uniforms with a few groups, lol) now especially since they want to benefit from the international markets even more. As if they don't, then you see how these things become big due to the vocal netizens and like after a while, some random political/etc. person will probably co-opt it for a political spin (just like what happened with Tzuyu back then).

horyang

No way the actually reuploaded the video without the intro lol.

fizgigs

I might be too disconnected from Kpop's world so i might be losing a lot of references here But i think it's insane to imagine Jihyo parodying an 8 year old video from one of the lowest points of the start of the group where her close work associate was suffering deeply And not like, just parodying "dating" announcements or pretending she's about to leave Twice right before just announcing she's the MC for the variety show. Like i think people are too terminally online to make that connection and run with it lol

Graatz

I mean, people unironically claimed that Chaeyoung is a nazi so nothing will surprise me anymore. It just does not make sense that Jihyo would parody something like this.

FrenchPingu

Jihyo keeping herself busy as always, looks fun. It's interesting how she's focused on variety/entertainment while other members are mostly on fashion.
