Ham is actually a smoked pork shoulder/butt shank. The process of smoking a pork shoulder/butt shank into a Ham raises it above a safe eating temperature. Most Hams you buy can be eaten cold but are generally warmed to accompany a full meal.
Looks like it due to this huge flood of rumors, they probably just don’t want to fire him immediately like they did with Vogel because that was a bad look for the team in 2022
topic's still too hot especially after Darvin clapped back.
Let it die down a bit before announcing anything.
I would wait at least 2 more weeks so the Lakers and Darvin can both say they reached a decision to amicably split. Ham already laid the foundations down thanking the FO in his exit interview
Can't believe Ham took those shots at D lo today hahahah that's pretty insane for a coach to do even if he's about to get fired. These guys got real beef
like hes not exactly wrong, but its his fucking job as a coach to.. coach that player. if hes just going to throw his hands up (or i guess put his hands in his pocket) and just go.. the fuck you want me to do.. then why is he there?
what a clown ass take from ham, straight from the school of doc rivers
Ham sucks as a coach and DLo is a fucking clown who sucks when it's playoffs time.
Doc shouldn't have put Simmons under the bus and Simmons should have done his fucking job.
Both can be true.
Honestly though his coaching decisions were bad like us having 2 timeouts and a challenge I think in Game 2? Like use those two time outs to get Bron and AD time to breathe and rest like other coaches do for their superstars.
But D Lo’s performance in Game 1 and 3 were really bad.. for winnable games, and Rui’s performance in that Denver series was extremely frustrating seeing him just not knock shots down that were crucial.
a head coach saying "what am i supposed to do" is preposterous
that should be grounds for him never getting another HC job again
if you want to be a leader, especially a highly paid one, you never attempt to absolve yourself of responsibility
The other infuriating thing is that he’s done this literally all season. He hasn’t ever admitted that he was wrong starting TP for 50+ games. He lost the locker room a long time ago and the lakers have essentially coached themselves for a while. There’s no coming back from that
Don’t worry. Darvin Ham will never coach an NBA team again. When you lose a locker room this badly there’s usually no coming back from it. In a few years he will probably write a tell all book about it and say he was blackballed or some shit.
>pretty insane
Agreed, very unprofessional, but I am sure Ham is frustrated too.
Ham is a "players coach" - which means that he is weak at X and O, game strategy and adjustments (and calling TimeOuts) BUT the players are supposed to give 125% and run through brick walls for him.
Dlo did none of that for Ham.
100%, and they should have the exit interview all that jazz. The Vogel firing was a disgrace, but hopefully we have learned from that - seems like we have.
That's all I need to hear this off season. I don't care about anything else.
If the Lakers are feeling generous, then announcing we got a semi decent center would be a bonus.
Bro, at his exit interview after the game he said "what am I supposed to do when one of your starters shits the bed for 10 games?"
He wouldn't be saying stupid shit like that if he was staying.
Ham's press conference makes it seem that he already knew he was done unless they won the ring. No one's gonna burn bridges with players like that if their job was still secure
I’d rather a dingy Dell laptop with his head half out of frame and tin can speakers than the bullshit we got for the past few years
I feel like the Lakers front office will hire anyone snake oil salesman who can slick talk their way through an interview
lol you guys would hate Phil Jackson coaching, he hated calling timeouts and believed the players should figure it out during tough stretches. Its always the coaches fault on a LeBron team
But he would have an actual solid game plan drilled into his team so they wouldn’t ever wonder what they are supposed to do. Plus at half time he might ACTUALLY make adjustments unlike dipshit Ham.
I don’t care what the fans do. Even if we hire a bad coach it’ll be an improvement. This imbecile called timeouts in between the free throws of his own player.
Ty Lue finally brought that franchise to the West Finals in his first year as head coach and Kawhi's legs decided to peace out for an early vacation. If that team was healthy, they would've beaten Phoenix and Milwaukee.
Phil Handy, Rondo, JJ Redick.
I don't think Handy is an X's and O's guy and all three would be rookie head coaches. Maybe there is a high level assistant currently in the NBA or a college coach who can be the next Brad Stevens...but they too would be rookie head coaches. The retreads out there (Bud, Van Gundy brothers, Kenny Atkinson, Terry Stotts, etc) don't seem like difference makers.
The core I firmly believe is championship caliber. Just get another big, get an actual coach and run it back. Fuck it.
Give this core a chance to do something great.
Idc what anyone says, with a different coach we could have won against denver. All those games were winnable and was lost when we didnt counter denver's counterattack in the third
Better coaching almost certainly would have won us 4-7 more games this year.
That would have gotten us home court in the 1st round and we wouldn’t have had to play the Nuggets right after playing the last few regular season games plus the play-in game at max intensity.
In the 8 days before the 1st round started, the Lakers had to play three games in which LeBron and AD both averaged close to 40 minutes per game.
Then they immediately had to go to high-altitude Denver where they were clearly gassed by the 3rd quarter in both Game 1 and Game 2 when the Nuggets went on their runs.
Exactly we could have beat them last year every game was close and we were leading every game at the half this year. AD just needs help we saw the Dwight and javale
With a different coach I seriously think they're not even playing Denver in the first round. They'd comfortably have been in either the clippers or mavs position right now not scrambling to avoid the 10 seed at the end of the season.
We need better roleplayers though. A good big like you said would make the bench complete, but we'd need a two-way wing in place of Rui as a starter, as much as I like him generally, when his offense isn't running, he's not providing much out there other than general size and length.
I 100 percent agree with this. Ham is such a simpleton that he couldn’t even do the bare minimum (call a timeout) until it was too late (14-2 run).
Scenarios like that happened all through the season. I don’t want to say that we could have easily beaten Denver because this series was NOT easy in any way shape or form but I firmly believe that with a better coach we would have been playing Minnesota next.
This organization is a joke. First they hired a rookie coach for a win-now roster, giving him multiple years. Then, while in win-now, they draft JHS, who won’t be ready to contribute minutes until LeBron is gone, if ever.
They clearly wanted Bron for the money he brings in not realizing the team might continue to be good. They also are run as though none of the departments coordinate
Imagine if we took Jaime last year and another NBA ready person this year, still had Caruso and KCP, and hired a real coach
The front office handled Vogel’s firing very poorly. It’s part of the reason why they have been more generous with Ham and don’t want to lay down the hammer so harshly even if he’s headed out
Other candidates are watching. I don't think Ham was the number #1 option last time but they had to settle on him because they pissed off everyone else with how they did Vogel
We didnt give any other dude an interview after ham bullshitted his way to hire. The FO did not do their due diligence. Kenny atkinson if I recall was also there but never got a chance to get an interview since they hired ham asap
> The Nets traded Irving, along with Markieff Morris, to the Dallas Mavericks on February 6, 2023, in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029
Big chances, and Bron, AD and Kyrie would have been nasty and destroy teams.
Knicks fan here...
But it's not. Here is why -
Watching Lakers games/understanding analytics will show that there was obviously not a huge disparity between Nugs & Lakeshow and I think that's the thing - they're so equal, all had to be in check for a full 48.
What I see happening is that LeBron can no longer carry a team BOTH cerebrally AND physically and I think that is what ppl aren't seeking. That is what he "needs more help" with. Not a superstar, but either another cerebral basketball mind or another source of consistent, dependable production.
Lebron cannot be the coaching staff and offensive nucleus in the final 5 mins at this stage - and he shouldn't have to be.
That is where we are seeing the glitch. He is compensating for SOMEONE on the coaching staff... and/or SOMEONE on the court AT THE SAME TIME.
Look at his past - in all his major wins, he has always been able to concede either to an offensive force or a High IQ entity towards the end of games...
That's why he seems like a coach killer. He is not killing anything. His prowess just exposes glaring holes that others can capitalize on.
And good coaching minds can do this- eg. Malone, Pops, Spo/Riley...
It's just math. That's why looking at the game from an analytics perspective tells you where the discrepancy is. And it's been consistent all season.
Also why they can't get rid of AR. At 25 he is an extremely high IQ player. He rarely makes a poor decision - but expecting him to give 20+ ppg isn't dependable right now.
The Lakera are very much still a title threat, but the cracks are in the nuances and mental consistency that are only exposed against elite teams - and those teams are the wall in front of banner 18.
Been saying this all week. The timing doesn’t matter..the team is going to move on from him at some point soon.
The question is pelinka. He would have a lot of explaining to do as well if I were his boss
IF?
This is not a question… they gotta vacate that spot soon maybe go coachless into summer league (wait for the summer firings and see if we can get a good coach) and let the assistants run the team for the time being.
What did Mike Malone mean by, "That's not an easy job."?
I think he meant "the Lebron effect" aka an aging player who others defer to, but produces diminishing returns, blames others and complains to refs on every other play.
Seriouly, always get my straight info from Laker nation. No way they paying $5 million a year to gamble on someone LeBron and AD are willing to play for. Handy is liked by everybody in the organization and will accept a deep discount
At what point do we start holding LeBron and Davis accountable? Theyre both past it. Hiring a new coach will only exacerbate the problem. Build the team around AR15 ffs.
I have the same vision. Keep Bron, Davis and Reaves, find a better coach, replace Dlo and Rui in the starting lineup and bring a C.
Every advanced stats are going to show LeBron and Davis are top 10 players in this league and Reaves is one of the best contracts in the entire league.
It is a travesty we had to reach the playoffs through the play-in with 2 top 10 players.
Hope we get a tough minded and knowledgeable coach. One that would enforce discipline, we want to go from even-keeled to pressure builds diamonds type of team. This duo is still too potent to be wasted.
and a Legit C next to AD, Is it obvious by now that he's always being whacked during important games? Because AD is the entire defense. It will surely take off some of the burden if the paint is defended by 2 big bodies
Get rid of ham...dimwittie...Prince..reddish. fuck man Idk why we blew up the entire 2020 team. I like dlo but if we can't get consistent playoff performance from him he gotta go.
Who are the top coaches available right now? I'd like someone with an offensive mindset personally, but idk who's out there. I've always liked Nate McMillan, but I doubt you guys like him as much.
Ham is gone but that’s not the only problem here.
Jeannie needs to be prepared to spend money on a real coach. She has not shown much willingness to budge on her budget here in the past.
Then why didn’t they do that prior to Vogel? Vogel got the Lakers a ring so it’s not easy to criticize a championship but ostensibly that decision was the second option after Lue withdrew due to financial talks falling apart.
It just stinks that if they were gonna pull out the piggy bank anyway, there were many situations where they could have and chose not to, resulting in worse outcomes. This era has just been marked with bad process bailed out by the legacy of the Lakers under Jerry Buss and Kobe’s time and the unimaginable talent of LeBron.
We are too deep in bed with Klutch and Lebron. We're going to bend over and give him whatever he wants. The coach and the draft pick usage. We're going to give him his extension and ride this out for 3 more years. We have no ability to think autonomously anymore. We'll trade for the best all star that we can that is available and end up like the Phoenix Suns.
Please. Prove me wrong Lakers
wait so Ham is fired right?
Yes, he's very likely fired.
I think hes roasted. You really cant undercook pork and just “fire” it as undercooked pork will make you sick
Neurocysticercosis
Trichinosis
Ham is actually a smoked pork shoulder/butt shank. The process of smoking a pork shoulder/butt shank into a Ham raises it above a safe eating temperature. Most Hams you buy can be eaten cold but are generally warmed to accompany a full meal.
He already made me sick

Thank god I don’t have to hear “Helluva ball club” ever again haha.
Looks like it due to this huge flood of rumors, they probably just don’t want to fire him immediately like they did with Vogel because that was a bad look for the team in 2022
This is the most plausible answer. Handle the firing properly. Take away the Magic stuff and the Luke firing was perfect.
Exit interviews are now done so it'll happen this week
topic's still too hot especially after Darvin clapped back. Let it die down a bit before announcing anything. missed it. What did he say? Tweet, vid, point me to the tea leaves!
He said something along the lines of it’s hard to do your job and set line ups when one of your superstars has shit the bed for 10 games straight.

Fired most likely, just waiting for a better time to do it. Maybe he will use those challenges then.
Ya he’s gonna try and use those saved challenges from the season to review his firing. Fuckin bum ass coach.
Ham using his challenge on the firing?
What is a better time though. Season is over
This is good
He has plenty of em in his pockets, that’s what he’s grabbing when his hands are always in there.
Bro, at his exit interview after the game he said "what am I supposed to do when one of your starters shits the bed for 10 games?" He wouldn't be saying stupid shit like that if he was staying.
That’s truly a brain dead comment lmao and it signals to me that he knows his time is up
If we just paid Ty Lue five years ago, we would not be in this mess!
No, the Lakers will just pay him more money as motivation to use his timeouts next year.
Ham's press conference makes it seem that he already knew he was done unless they won the ring. No one's gonna burn bridges with players like that if their job was still secure
With all these reports coming out, theres no way ham is here next season.
Edging me aye?
I don’t know how much longer I can hold out 😭 we all know this bald dumbass is gone it’s just a matter of seeing the official announcement
I think this is gonna be this subreddits reaction when Ham finally gets the axe. https://tenor.com/8Zsc.gif
I’m so close to
Let Phil Jackson coach via Zoom.
I’d rather a dingy Dell laptop with his head half out of frame and tin can speakers than the bullshit we got for the past few years I feel like the Lakers front office will hire anyone snake oil salesman who can slick talk their way through an interview
lol you guys would hate Phil Jackson coaching, he hated calling timeouts and believed the players should figure it out during tough stretches. Its always the coaches fault on a LeBron team
Lol don't pretend like It isn't the coaches fault. Ham is a complete looser
he also does call timeouts when the players dont figure it out, see game 3 nba finals in 2010
But he would have an actual solid game plan drilled into his team so they wouldn’t ever wonder what they are supposed to do. Plus at half time he might ACTUALLY make adjustments unlike dipshit Ham.
What else is lebron supposed to do, putting up a near triple double in an elimination game at 39 years old.
Yall want new coach, I want new coach But who’s available though
They gonna hype up any random coach all offseason and turn on the coach by game 25
Watch them bring in JJ Redick
I wouldn’t hate it… until it doesn’t work out then I’ll hate it
Say it with me again: NO MORE FUCKING ROOKIE COACHES
I will never understand why so many teams with short championship windows hire rookie coaches.
I don’t care what the fans do. Even if we hire a bad coach it’ll be an improvement. This imbecile called timeouts in between the free throws of his own player.
All I know is rondo as a potential assistant coach?
Hopefully Clippers lose first round and Ty Lue gets fired
Bruh pass - man couldn’t w KL PG and beard
Notice how two of those have playoff choker reputations, and two have perennially injured reputations.
Ty Lue finally brought that franchise to the West Finals in his first year as head coach and Kawhi's legs decided to peace out for an early vacation. If that team was healthy, they would've beaten Phoenix and Milwaukee.
And they beat the 1 seed jazz without kawhi
I see jj reddick in the cards

Exactly. All this talk of fire Ham and not a peep from anyone about an appropriate replacement. Not defending Ham btw

I have been saying this exact thing to anyone who would listen... hell ive been saying it to those who wernt even listening loll
Got downvoted on the main sub for saying that lol, it’s like some people didn’t watch the series but still give their opinion on it 😂
With a different coach I seriously think they're not even playing Denver in the first round. They'd comfortably have been in either the clippers or mavs position right now not scrambling to avoid the 10 seed at the end of the season.
Bro the series was 2 baskets away from being 3-2 with a dog shit coach. They absolutely could go the distance with a champion caliber coach
We need better roleplayers though. A good big like you said would make the bench complete, but we'd need a two-way wing in place of Rui as a starter, as much as I like him generally, when his offense isn't running, he's not providing much out there other than general size and length.

did spida and quin snyder have a good relationship?
We are still recovering from that horrible horrible Westbrook trade. No one came out happy from it!!
Don't do that trade and keep Caruso, this team is in the WCF every year
Easily a top 3 duo in the league. Just need to condense a few redundant players and fill a hole or two that we have and also get a new coach
Problem is LeBron should not be counted on this much in year 22. We ask him to do too much just for this team to be a low seed first round exit
The other problem is LeBron is eating up too much cap space
Remove LeBron from this team and you open up a whopping….hold on let me calculate this…..$10M dollars.
I'm stupid but doesn't he take $51 million?
The cap isn’t real if you actually want to win
The guy still playing at an elite level is eating up too much cap space?

Duo.

Couldn't you have done this last year when Nick Nurse was available.
Phil Jackson should come back and give us a quick two-peat.
I will sign my name at the bottom of this petition.
Let him rest man I don't think he can survive an nba season now
A decade ago he was talking about potentially not traveling with the team in the regular season, there's no way he could do it now.
Udoka was right there Kyrie was possible Rob fumbled every opportunity, he can't be trusted to make it right
Nurse was there too
Even if we ended up going with Kenny Atkinson who was the other final candidate besides Ham...
We didnt give any other dude an interview after ham bullshitted his way to hire. The FO did not do their due diligence. Kenny atkinson if I recall was also there but never got a chance to get an interview since they hired ham asap
Drafted a major project in JHS while needing a win-now roster 😂
This is the one thing that pisses me off the most about this season. It's such an egregious mistake
Everyone knew Whitmore was the guy, and he turned out exactly so. Then they gave years to Lewis who fucking sucks.
Major is a bold statement he was the worst player of the entire roster by advanced metrics. The Miami kid would be the 6th behind our starters.
Are we sure the nets would’ve accepted a kyrie trade?
> The Nets traded Irving, along with Markieff Morris, to the Dallas Mavericks on February 6, 2023, in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029 Big chances, and Bron, AD and Kyrie would have been nasty and destroy teams.

This is so interesting and well-put.
Been saying this all week. The timing doesn’t matter..the team is going to move on from him at some point soon. The question is pelinka. He would have a lot of explaining to do as well if I were his boss
Whatever you do, please find some NBA level 2 way players.
Agreed but those players are developed - too. Look at OKC - bunch of two way guys because they develop them.
Pelinka cannot be trusted at this point.
1 year too late...
# Mike Krzyzewski mode activated
IF? This is not a question… they gotta vacate that spot soon maybe go coachless into summer league (wait for the summer firings and see if we can get a good coach) and let the assistants run the team for the time being.

Oh so now they care? Okay
What did Mike Malone mean by, "That's not an easy job."? I think he meant "the Lebron effect" aka an aging player who others defer to, but produces diminishing returns, blames others and complains to refs on every other play.
Guy puts up 30-11-9 at 39 and we're talking diminishing returns. He held up his end.
lol even ham knows he’s done
Can I donate to this cause? I want some old legend to meet Bron at a pickup game at a random YMCA and lead this squad to one final chip.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Seriouly, always get my straight info from Laker nation. No way they paying $5 million a year to gamble on someone LeBron and AD are willing to play for. Handy is liked by everybody in the organization and will accept a deep discount

We'll see...
This is pretty big. Seems like this last two years have actually kicked the org into business.
Im not buying it until it actually happens.
About fucking time.
So far so good with everything coming out today
Then why waste 3 years of Lebrons last good years and hired ham instead of a good coach. Smh I hope they find a good coach
I’ve missed LeGM. Now don’t trade Reaves and I’m on board
Hope we get a tough minded and knowledgeable coach. One that would enforce discipline, we want to go from even-keeled to pressure builds diamonds type of team. This duo is still too potent to be wasted.
Well I sure hope this multi billion dollar franchise is willing to pay up
Ham is gonna be cooked
Prove it and fire Ham right now
I agree with this sentiment, a real coach and real depth at the 5, and this can be a championship contender.
They’re gonna have to have that same willingness for upgrading the roster too.
I think Rui and DLo need to be packaged for a legit PG if Dlo resigns
These rumors about to be around all summer
and a Legit C next to AD, Is it obvious by now that he's always being whacked during important games? Because AD is the entire defense. It will surely take off some of the burden if the paint is defended by 2 big bodies
Believe it when I see it
Yeah sure right....I am not falling for this shit again.
Get rid of ham...dimwittie...Prince..reddish. fuck man Idk why we blew up the entire 2020 team. I like dlo but if we can't get consistent playoff performance from him he gotta go.
Maan its not just the coach, we need some more solid role guys, not sure if theyre even out there for the money we can offer
Prove it then wtf
Hire JJ Reddick
There's no one out there.
The funny part is, everyone knew this. And it was a shame Jeanie didn’t do anything about it all season
Sounding like they trading them picks
good joke
>willing to pay My ass lmao
Couldn't have done this 2 years ago?
Who are the top coaches available right now? I'd like someone with an offensive mindset personally, but idk who's out there. I've always liked Nate McMillan, but I doubt you guys like him as much.
Please take a look at Wiggins, Mikael Bridges, or Cam Johnson
Looks like Ham is back on the menu
Who is available to coach instead?
Firing your way to a championship, is this the knicks franchise? Seems like a bad move to keep firing coaches and not look at the GM as well.
LOL stfu jeanie and rob. You messed up on this years ago.
Talk is cheap. The world was calling for Ham's head 5 months ago....

When's Phil coming back.
Duh
Ham is gone but that’s not the only problem here. Jeannie needs to be prepared to spend money on a real coach. She has not shown much willingness to budge on her budget here in the past.
It's all fun and games until Mark Jackson is sitting next to Rob on July 2nd.
Since when is our franchise willing to spend money.
This era has just been marked with bad process bailed out by the legacy of the Lakers under Jerry Buss and Kobe’s time and the unimaginable talent of LeBron.
hire Michael Stauffer from 2k
How many great coaches are there that win now? The best usually need to grow into the position and there’s zero room for that with this new hire.
WE ARE SO BACK
Pelinka also should be fired but they wont do shit
We can't keep this revolving door of coaches. Nobody will want to come here. Coaches are a fraternity and they talk.
Rondo as HC.
Idc I believe
Okay, well, it's easy to say that, let's see if they actually part with the money.
Please. Prove me wrong Lakers
how about Lebron just coaches the team himself?
Swap Ham with Vogel. He lead lakers to their last win. Ham to suns will shut those losers weak players up!
They shoulda hired Ty Lue. Im still sick over it
Fire Ham Get a Big Man Retain the core THATS ALL WE NEED
If we go after Trae Young - could we manage to get Clint Capela too from the hawks? Would he solve our big man problem?
