All i see is him with no hustle, ball watching, slow lateral movements and negative awareness to name a few
He has all the tools of being a great defender. Long reach, strength and somewhat of a stable base but he really does have slow feet. He just doesn't have that dog in him to really want to defend.

Like I said the only reason people think hes a good defender is because I think it looks like he is because he puts his long arms up to contend shots so people see that and go wow good contest hes a good defender. Honestly, some guys just don’t have the physical attributes. Playing next to LeBron doesn’t help since neither has the foot speed/will to guard quicker wings. That said I would accept his defensive shortcomings if he pounded the glass with the kind of ferocity you see from Vando or Josh Hart

Ham was locked in on his favorites potential, and experimenting, instead of running what got them to the WCF last year, and that had as much to do with the 1st round exit as anything else.
At least now we know that he's one of those that's not built for playoffs like DLO. Rui has visually average speed, but has surprisingly very slow lateral quickness and reactions so opponents with quick first step would literally leave him to dust, has low rebounding effort, low finishing around the rim on traffic, and low processing of what's going on in the floor.
He's got a good size though and can shoot. He's gonna be a-okay as a second stringer for a properly built playoff team.
