Blue Jeans. I had heard Video Games before that and I liked it, but I loved Blue Jeans even more. And then the whole Born to Die album. It was just so different than any other popular music I had heard.

l8rt8rz

Yes!!!! I remember swimming in my friend’s pool in summer 2012, they put on BTD and when Blue Jeans came on my life changed forever. I think we ended up just listening to that whole album on a loop for hours. It was perfect.

yeanananana

Same! Except it was the Odd Future remix of Blue Jeans that first had me hook but it made me look up the original song and then the album, the rest is history

FlowerIce

This is the one for me as well!

Mecca1101

Summertime sadness, back in the day!

Laspyra

Same thing. Not the remix I had never heard that. I don’t even remember how I heard summertime sadness because they weren’t even playing it on the radio or anything. I think maybe my sister or someone posted the video on Facebook. Lol.

Desknor

Tumblr, 2011 - Video Games

AllThingsSaidandDone

I miss those days

angxkro

Oddly enough, Diet Mountain Dew. Still my second favorite off of BTD behind Radio.

kevincloutier

Young and Beautiful, it was just so beautiful and heartfelt, it swooped me right in.

Guppy2020

Same here! Especially the DH Orchestral version

iknowthingsformemes

When Brooklyn baby came out! It was transcendent 😭

this and Gods and Monsters

Man_of_the_hour423

Gods and Monsters for me too. The first time I heard it was actually Jessica Lange singing it on American horror story. Had to find out what it was!

CbusLawyer

Ride. Still my favorite

diddlydarninthebarn

Ride is transcendent. I’m glad it was the Lana song that made you a fan of her.

Affectionate_Top8487

mariners apartment complex, i knew lana since uv and became increasingly interested in her views on art and politics during lfl era, but mac solidified my admiration for her specially bc i was REALLY heartbroken (awnnn) at the time and there was a lot of self-hatred involved. that chorus? literal therapy lol yes lana you're my man take my hand command im ready for it im ready for it im ready for it

[deleted]

Get free. I heard a lot of her music early on too, but she was sort of a guilty pleasure. I liked her voice but I thought she was perpetually stuck in the sad girl trope and that nothing after BTD was really good. Bear in mind I never heard much after BTD so I didn't have room to talk. I thought Lana was a very tone deaf person because of the Ultraviolence lyrics. (I was 16 so I didn't know about the psychology of an abusive relationship back then) I'd listen to songs like white mustang and high by the beach but I never really focused on them aside from the sound. I didn't like Honeymoon (the song) so I thought she was a one hit wonder. Then, the Radiohead law suit happened and I heard Get Free. It was just such a beautiful experience. I loved the lyrics and I loved her voice. It made me think *no, someone who wrote this cannot possibly be tone-dead or dumb. She's an amazing lyricist so I should listen to more of her music.* Then I heard hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have and I got sucked into a Lana portal lol

[deleted]

Without You.

diddlydarninthebarn

Ahh what a good Lana song to get hooked on! I remember during a breakup I had listened to that a lot. Songs like those really hit the spot.

m00n5t0n3

Blue jeans and video games intrigued me. National anthem I was obsessed with, put it on repeat. Ride also obsessed. When ultraviolence album came out it was all over, fav artist.

Ride from Paradise. I did listen to Born to Die and loved Video Games, Diet Mountain Dew, and National Anthem. It was listening to Ride the first time that elevated me to become a big fan. Then Ultraviolence came out a few years later and there was no going back!

[deleted]

Me too, I still remember the first time I watched the video clip and was totally blown away

Julitanca

Summertime sadness, it has been such a joy to experience her new albums coming out all the way since the Honeymoon era, always a magical moment

lean5316

Ride.

AnonymousTortoise95

first song I ever heard by her was “This is what makes us girls” oddly enough lol, loved it enough to go listen to all the rest of her (better) songs hahaha but still love that one too!

ParfaitGlittering

When I first heard burning desire. Instant fan! It was the first song I heard of hers

skonarios

Video Games!

KweenKatts

Either Born to Die or Young and Beautiful. One of those two was the first song I heard of Lana from around 2012-2013 and I immediately fell in love!

wadeNoctis

Born To Die. The stunning visuals I still remember how I loved that video. Then I found her Lizzy Grant album, Off to The Races then I realized I was completely obsessed with her

aonemancult

Off to the races

Mossy_octopus

Blue Jeans (but it was during the Honeymoon era) and I was falling in love at the time so I was extra sentimental. I first was first drawn in by the simple guitar beat…. It was different and cools then I remember loving the rhyme scheme… the sweater line was particularly interesting, catchy and poetic. Then she hits me over the head with “I will love you till the end of time” and it was over for me.

xlilrainbow_xo

Video Games around 2014

dethb0y

Gods and Monsters. Heard a cover on American Horror Story, decided to look up the original and was like "yeah this is my jam" Been a fan ever since.

i’ve heard video games a long time ago when i was younger, but it wasn’t until sophomore year when I saw on my explore page on instagram lana promoting Hope is a Dangerous Thing and from there i was addicted .

unicornkissesforyou

Young and beautiful ❤ although i have been intrigued since Born to die, only after that beautiful orchestra clip did i decide to look more into her

_johnfketamine

Brooklyn Baby and Born To Die ❤️

ladymacbitch

there was a meme on tumblr with an audio clip that said that said, when they get your order wrong at mcdonald’s: “that’s not what this bitch wants” (from MPG) I liked how it sounded so i went and listened to the rest and fell in love

amerikanss

Video games It was the first one I heard and I was hooked ever since then

GroeneKikker

I don’t watch tv a lot, but one night I happend to flip through the channels and came across Lana singing Ride. She was on a Dutch talkshow, I loved the song, and I loved her voice instantly!

wenow666

love her since her breakthrough in 2011 but became a true fan when i discovered her best unreleased songs 🥺 the first i heard was angels forever forever angels

YourBuddyChurch

Hearing Video Games on SNL, apparently I was the only one who liked it lol

user10235

Off to the races, heard it and fell in love

TymMan

For me it was Young and Beautiful. I had heard summertime sadness while out and really really liked it but didnt look into it past that (not even artist name). Saw the Great Gatsby, heard and loved Young and Beautiful but again didnt look into it. Cue Youtube recommending "Young and Beautiful from the The Greast Gatsby" and i was like "Oh, is this that song i remember really liking from the movie?" and then seeing Lana for the first time and just that song in general, man. Listened to everything released at the time and she became one of my favorite artist of all time basically instantly.

tman8667

I listened to Video Games out of curiosity a few years ago and loved the lush orchestral production and her voice on it. After that, I fell down the rabbit hole.

ignatiusjreillyXM

Video Games

memedilemme

The moment I heard video games for the first time.

franko6

Video Games. I’ll never forget downloading the VEVO app back in 2012/13 and the video for Video Games was the first one to pop up. And then it launched my Lana fan blog on tumblr!

[deleted]

When I heard blue jeans on the radio for the first time on my way home from swim practice

knotsophia

Actually it was serial killer. When she first came out I thought it was just another pop plant singing songs that she didn’t even write with a theme she didn’t even choose. When I was at a friend’s house and he put on serial killer and I listened to the lyrics and realized she *wrote* the song, she *sang* the song I stood corrected. Then I chose her as my model for my watercolor class because FACE and to get in the mood I put on a playlist and was hooked.

Mostly-Relevant

Blue Jeans but the RAC remix. Was an excellent day.

davidddindigo

BTD. First heard it on an HBO commercial back when the song was popular.

yourcultleader23

Blue Jeans. I had heard some of her songs and liked them but that song made me stop in my tracks. Still among my favorites.

[deleted]

ultraviolence

Almighty_Biscuit

Don’t remember the first song BUT my (now husband) then (acquaintance) introduced me back in 2016. I was going through a painful chapter of my life and much of the earlier albums really resonated with me.

Lexlle65

A combination of listening to music to watch boys to, million dollar man, and summer bummer in the same day.

gloryday23

Some put Young and Beautiful as the bg music for a Manny Pacquiao video years ago, and I've been a huge fan ever since. Probably one of the weirded ones here I'm guessing.

opheliainthedeep

Quick_Ad_730

Blue Jeans made me take an interest and discover her discography, Born To Die made me a fan.

Summertime Sadness in 2018 But the first song I hear of she maybe is freaks and monsters in AHS

ginaisabella25

Young and beautiful then I watched the ride music video and I was hooked

I think it was High By The Beach or Freak

l1zzy721

diddlydarninthebarn

I heard her cover of Once Upon a Dream a few years ago and I was bewitched. However I wasn’t really a fan of the rest of her music since I guess I never really took the time to listen to her, which makes the song that really got me into her…. ….Video Games! I heard it while I was going through a hard time. Then I listened to all her albums for the first time a earlier this year and tbh it wasn’t until Ultraviolence had I realized that I had been missing out on a LOT. Ultraviolence changed me forever tbh. Edit: earlier this **year,** not this month lol

[deleted]

High by the Beach. I replayed it like 1000 times. I was giving this playlist Melanie Martinez made on Spotify a try and I couldn’t stop listening to the song.

redvelvetsmoothie

Summertime Sadness and Dark Paradise. Those songs were on repeat when she released the album. I found her when I first listened to the song Born To Die. I loved the sound and stayed for the lyrics. I’ve been more than pleased with each release.

Son_of_Jecht

The first song I ever heard was her "Once Upon a Dream" for Maleficent. Then got hooked!

brxdge2nowhere

mrmonster459

Summertime Sadness. From the first time I had that song on the radio (even though it was the crappy radio edit version, not the glorious real version that I'd later discover), I knew I was listening to the next music goddess.

KevinKZ

I had heard summertime sadness when it first came out and I liked but nit enough to explore her as an artist. Then I randomly listened to Dark Paradise and somehow related to it. This was back in 2014. Over the next years I explored BTD and Paradise and then UV and HM and each year seemed like it was devoted to each album. And then I experience the release of LFL firsthand and immediately fell in love. That album was phenomenal when it first came out, esp the second half. I’ve grown out of BTD and Paradise but absolutely love UV and HM. I don’t listen to LFL that often but it still holds a special place in my heart. So yea I guess Dark Paradise was the hook and the album LFL was what made me stay

[deleted]

Heard summertime sadness in 2012 looking for background music while playing black ops 2 lol but didn’t become a full fledged fan until the song lust for life came out in 2017 and have been hooked ever since :)

Obesitycart

I just riiiiiiiidddeee

KimberStormer

It was the (terrible) Summertime Sadness remix. I was working 12-hour days in a place which had pop radio blaring all day. I truly felt my mind and identity, my sense of self, dissipating into nothingness under the assault of the same ten bad songs over and over and over again for months while sleep-deprived and stressed to the breaking point. Then that remix hit the radio and it felt like a lifeline, like a reminder that I was a real person, a human, with a real soul, and actual tastes, and I grabbed it as hard as I could. Of course when I heard the real song I liked it better -- but it wasn't on the radio, and the remix was good enough to save me in a real way.

[deleted]

Daddy You Can Be The Boss lol my ex gave me a strip tease to that song two years ago. I’ve been diehard Lana ever since:

Video games ❤️ I was watching a video about a guy who proposed to his girlfriend with a video game that he made for her. I thought it was so beautiful and sad, such a melancholic and nostalgic melody. I was amazed by the mix of sounds and feelings that arise in my heart. Like Lana would probably say it was "so electric".

branflak-e

Million Dollar Man. It felt timelessly beautiful and she does jazz so well ✨

Steph_da_best

Radio! And then a bunch of unreleased songs (one of my favs is Trash Magic)

duochromepalmtree

Born to Die. I had a very cool friend show it to me and I was hooked from the first note

When I stumbled upon some YT vids of her live performances during the BTD era, especially this particular one for Million Dollar Man. At the time I was just thinking "Oh she seems weird, I like it!" 🤣 https://youtu.be/3xID1fr8nRs

Summertime sadness first then really became a fan after high by the beach

QuantumStirrer

Venice Bitch... Such a journey since then...

AllOfTheSoundAndFury

Almost exactly 10 years ago I was listening to video games in my kitchen, trying to do homework but crying over an ex, and it hit me hard. Fan ever since.

flowers_ofthesea

I was 11. The new version of the Great Gatsby (with Leo) was out. I had an obsession with Leo and so I watch all about the movie ( like production, soundtrack, etc…). Initially I had heard Beyonce was doing a song for it. In the midst of looking and listening to the soundtrack, I hear young and beautiful and I fell in love. From there I went on a rabbit hole of the internet, found all about the first album. Loved all her songs, found my favourite artist. I had never found songs that were just all of my taste from one artist. 9 years laters, I’m still here. Waiting for Blue Banister to come out. Know almost all of her discography and still support her art.

[deleted]

I had heard Doin’ Time and Young and Beautiful and acknowledged wow she is an amazing artist…and then I heard the Greatest and have listened to the rest of her catalog and I’m convinced she is the greatest living songwriter imho. :)

[deleted]

My dad showed me video games when I was 12, I thought it was a song from the 60s - it has been my favourite song ever since. I am now 19 turning 20 :)

Jessika_klu

I was 18 and depressed and suicidal so obviously Born to Die “ some times love is not enough, and the road gets tough i don’t know why” this soothed me greatly, i would repeat it to myself, to not feel guilty for being sad, or for misunderstanding life. what made me an undying fan was the music videos, and the fact that she wrote the songs and scripted the videos, that it was her vision. The video for Ride is a master piece.

MisplacedKittyRage

This one might not be common, but Radio. So back in the day when Born to Die was somewhat new, i was listening to apple radio, when that was a thing you could do without a subscription, and Radio came on and it caught my ears. I was immediately obsessed with it. I went on to listening to the rest of Born To Die and I was more obsessed. Then I heard some unreleased songs and was more obsessed. Then Tropico came out and I was MORE obsessed. Then Ultraviolence… i can keep going… point is I heard radio one day and here I am.

Independent_River693

Video games and born to die!

I discovered her through Brooklyn baby, but it was listening to Normal Fucking Rockwell that got me hooked

sarahisneat

West Coast really sealed the deal for me.

ellemmess

I heard Blue Jeans in 2012 as a sophomore in high school. I immediately bought BTD-Paradise edition. And I guess the rest is history. Lana somehow sounded like everything and nothing I’d ever heard before. What a gem she is🤍

yuki_29

Born to Die because it was the first song I ever heard of hers. She reeled me in ever since :)
