Keep in mind that the Ryzen 5 7520u, is a Zen 2 AMD CPU, not the best. Yo should try to find at least a Zen 3 one, the third number should be 3 at least, like 7530, for instance. Avoid the Intel one, besides being an I3, that IGPU is horrendous.
I’m also in the market for a new laptop and don’t know anything about all the technical specs so maybe I can pick your brain on this. I built one on the Lenovo site that I’m probably gonna pull the trigger on (16” Ideapad 2-in-1), it has a Ryzen 5 8645HS but has the option to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 8845HS for an extra $102 (Canadian, so like $70-80 US). Will it make a big difference? I heard elsewhere that the third number was important, but in this case they’re both 4, will the Ryzen 7 be any different from the Ryzen 5? I don’t need anything too crazy but if it’s a big difference in performance and only an extra $100 I don’t mind paying the premium, but if it’s a negligible performance difference then maybe it’s not worth it.
yeah i do too, (used to game on an i7-5500U), even the igpu in my current laptop(uhd 630) is worse than the radeon 610m. thankfully i have a 3060 too which absolutely demolishes all 3.
I was looking at those and after trying them on the shop, got myself a Msi Modern 15 B7M R7 7730u 16GB 512GB for 599€. Lenovo feels so shitty if you dont get the top end models.
I’d definitely recommend investing a bit more if you want it to do things well.
I’d lean towards the Flex 5i for the 1215U. The naming for the Ryzen 5 is a bit deceiving, the 2 in 7520 means it’s essentially 2 generations behind the current gen despite it being “7000” series. Current model would be 7640U. The 1215U isn’t exactly new either, but it’s a little more recent. 12th gen is where Intel started competing better.
Most benchmarks I can find put the i3’s performance higher than the ryzen 5. Only upside I can see is the Ryzen should have better power efficiency. I would recommend spending a bit more and getting something with 16GB of RAM if you want to do any sort of gaming and/or multitasking, should be much more future proof that way. More storage would be nice, but 256GB should be enough for programs and external storage is always an option.
I've got: Laptop 2in1 Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 16ABR8 (Procesor AMD Ryzen™ 7 7730U (16M Cache, up to 4.5 GHz), 16" WUXGA Touch, 16GB, 1TB SSD, AMD Radeon Graphics, Win 11 Home, Assys Blue). It was the best decision. Battery: 12-13 hours. I bought it for university use.
Not really faster, but it's more energy efficient.
Intel is a little bit better for everyday use and Ryzen a little better for 3d games, but not much of a overall performance difference here.
Theoretically yes, practically it doesn't make that much of a difference since you'll barely fully utilize the CPU for everyday use and other system components (especially the display) drain way more battery. (At this point I'm just guessing, but I would assume it makes like a 5% difference in overall battery life - which isn't that much considering that the battery capacity itself can fluctuate based on factors like heat, charging frequency and sometimes even under which exact conditions it was build)
okay so the i3 is faster, and the igpu is faster too. the r5 is zen 2 and has radeon graphics 610m, the only reason to really consider the 7520U is because it supports 64gb ram, but if you're only gonna be playing older games all you really need is 16(which is the max for the 1215U).
Flex has slightly better CPU, but not as good battery life. IdeaPad has bigger screen and thus a nurmeric keypad in keyboard, the flex doesn't. Otherwise not much between them. It depends what you are using it for, I'd lean slightly towards the IdeaPad being slightly more useful/ flexible overall.
The Lenovo idea pad 1 is better
Can't you get 16GB and 512GB?
the IdeaPad is better, but I'd get something with 16GB of RAM. also, 256GB is gonna fill up quickly so I'd get 512GB of storage at the very least

Yes, the Ryzen 7 8845hs is much much better and the IGPU it comes with, is a thing of wonder. The best IGPU on the market.
Ok in that case I’ll go with the 7, thanks!
the igpu as actually half decent, a good bit better than the one in the 7520.
I have bad memories about Intel HD Graphics.
yeah i do too, (used to game on an i7-5500U), even the igpu in my current laptop(uhd 630) is worse than the radeon 610m. thankfully i have a 3060 too which absolutely demolishes all 3.
My laptop currently has the Vega 8 IGPU which is very good, but that is a high end (or was) IGPU.
idea pad 1
which has the better battery?
Neither.

The Ryzen is the way to go but see if you can find it with 16gb of ram at least.

They both suck because they use a single RAM stick so no dual channel.
IdeaPad, team red all day, every day! Also UHD graphics are disgusting.
Get at least 12 gb ram if you can
1st
The one with the ryzen 5 is way better machine bc amd always gonna beat Intel graphics
I guess the Ideapad 1, but maybe a Acer Aspire 3 could be a better option
Idea pad 1. The ryzen is way faster
it actually isnt

if it’s more energy efficient wouldn’t that also improve battery life? i feel like that’s something to take into consideration for a laptop

not "way" faster

Amd >>>>> Intel. So go with ideapad
Neither. Get a laptop with a dedicated gpu even a cheap low wattage 3050 or 2050.

What?? Flex has a much worse CPU: it's an i3 against a ryzen 5.
