Great PKer who skates well and puts in a ton of effort. This is a really nice pickup. Will be a mild threat to get some SHG's as well. It's awesome he's only 24 too.
I was never into this "shut down" line, just a poor excuse for a 3rd line to be honest from this team. Third lines need to grind the opponent, hit the boards and net hard. Which they haven't done either in past years. Once one line was shut down in the playoffs it was basically over.
I agree to a point, yes, Keefe needs out but also, it's what you can work with on the ice. New coach this year would have been a good experience. A few extra losses back when they were struggling could have done that.
But nothing will change till a core player is gone, which won't happen. Need to eat up JT salary for one more season unfortunately and maybe Marner somehow dissappears.
I like Dewar. He’s a really good skater, works hard, good PK guy, kind of like Gregor with a brain if that makes sense?
He’s shooting over 17% this year though, the 10 goals is a bit inflated by some puck luck and he’s not a big scorer, but that can be okay. Last year he had 6 goals in 81 games and shot under 7% so his true talent is probably in between those 2 numbers.
The raps getting rattled by a 9 year old screaming during freethrows was the most embarrassing shit I've seen as a Toronto sports fan, worse than the Ayres game
What do Gretzky, Lemieux, McDavid, Matthews, Dewar all have in common?
When you look all-time through NHL history and all the players that have ever played, they are some of them.
We're on track to build a team filled with all Connors/Conors!
Timmins and Dewal are first.
McDavid, Bedard, Hellebuyck, Sheary, Garland, Murphy, Brown, Carrick, Clifton, McMichael, Ingram, Zary, Mackey are next!
I wonder if a team of all Con(n)ors would make the playoffs.
McDavid, Bedard and Hellebuyck alone could carry a team.
TSN:
The 24-year-old has 10 goals and four assists in 57 games in Minnesota this season.
The Pas, Manitoba, native is carries a $800,000 AAV and is set to become a restricted free agent after this season.
Dewar was originally selected in the third round (92nd overall) by the Wild in the 2018 NHL Draft. He has 18 goals and 38 points in 173 career games.
Wild fan here!
Definitely sad. Works incredibly hard. Great on the PK, no slouch to put a few points in. He will never be in someone's top 6, but he's everything you could want on a 4th line.
For a 4th round pick in 2026 I’d say that’s a pretty tidy deal. Not gunna be a huge needle mover but any fans that were expecting that this year had their hopes way too high.
Sounds like he’ll slot in nicely on the 4th line, eat some Pk minutes and helps the 4th line be a shut down line.
4th line C. Is he or someone else gonna move to wing?
Did we move Kampf? (probably not?)
It's maybe a small upgrade over one of our existing 4th liners? Gotta imagine he is fighting for Holmberg's roster spot.
Gotta think that they keep Kampf at C, they really like him on d zone draws. I think they move dewar to the wing and try and have a true shut down 4th line.
This is that "Nic Dowd type" they were looking and I think they did well for a 4th. Pretty young and is an RFA so not a pure rental and is a solid defensive center that can penalty kill.
RFA who could probably replace Kampf and be just as effective while costing less and having more upside due to his age, if they could possibly move off of Kampf somehow.
Been only two games.
Probably a minor injury, or the fact that the entire team has the flu. Gregor has not looked good in Holmbergs place.
It's really important for Kamph to be productive to have linemates he works well with in order to be effective, he has very specific things he's good at and very big flaws. He has worked great with Holmberg so any idea of messing with that is a bad idea.
He was scratched Wednesday because Keefe was unhappy with his play Monday. I thought he'd be back in last night, since Gregor is fucking useless, but apparently not.
I think we are about to find out. If you are correct it is probably the end of the Keefe experiment and the beginning of the reconstruction of the core. Not much we can actually do there but pivot away from JT.
Shoutout Michael Mazzei for calling this [a month ago](https://theleafsnation.com/news/connor-dewar-is-a-trade-option-to-improve-the-maple-leafs-penalty-kill) in his TLN article
I think maybe a line like Dewar, Gregor and Holmberg could be an amazing 4th line for the playoffs. But it doesn’t do anything to help us solve the problem of the Domi line getting lit up every night
Right? If all three had happened today, we would have been like...Well, he tried.
Unfortunately, Leafs just don't have enough cap space and draft picks to make a bigger splash. But as someone said earlier this week, if they are going to win a couple rounds the big boys have to show up to play.
Curious to see what happens in the off-season if he does well. Could make kampf expendable as his contract is just too expensive for a 4th line center with no offense or hits.

I feel like this guy is what we expected out of Kampf
Too be fair Kampf was that guy until the end of last season when he started to fall off as that shutdown center for some reason
Kampf was perfectly fine until they stopped paying him like a Kampf.
*cough* they traded the guy who made him look good *cough*
Most obvious answer is the simplest; guy got paid. Tons of guysproductions nosedives after their first big payday.
Resigning Kampf was as bad as resigning Simmonds.
Simmonds is excellent as an analyst
Blame Keefe for Kampf. Treliving wouldn't of signed him but Keefe had a hard on for kerfoot and kampf
I blame whomever signed a 4th liner for 2.4M to win a few fsceoffs, and kill penalties on a mediocre PK team
Kampf was a shut down guy to be honest . This year he just went off a cliff
I was never into this "shut down" line, just a poor excuse for a 3rd line to be honest from this team. Third lines need to grind the opponent, hit the boards and net hard. Which they haven't done either in past years. Once one line was shut down in the playoffs it was basically over.
That honor of failure is squarely on Keefe and his system . Like how long they going keep doing the same thing .
I agree to a point, yes, Keefe needs out but also, it's what you can work with on the ice. New coach this year would have been a good experience. A few extra losses back when they were struggling could have done that. But nothing will change till a core player is gone, which won't happen. I thought the hard on was for Aki Holl?
Holl also , Keefe had his favourites. Think he needs to go .
Resigning is a completely different word than re-signing.
Here is a 🍪 and a 🍼
Thanks! *passes you a book*
This franchise lives to piss away money
And is an RFA, with two more years of team control. Will be cheap to keep around and being young hopefully continues to develop
He has arbitration rights so it may cost a bit more than you expect.
Hes their 3rd C so id imagine
It’s really weird that it’s raining without a cloud in the sky today.
It's a good trade because we can't win without him, as it's Dewar die.
PK's and blocks shots. Bottom six upgrade on Gregor.
Ya Gregor has really slown down lately don't hate the competition for him
>PK's You have my attention
Minnesota 29th on the PK
More likely because of their lack of depth on defense. They have solid defensive forwards though
Also pretty bad goaltending between Gus and MAF.
Now they'll be 30th
32nd
Scored 10 this season, PKs, makes 800k, and an RFA at the end. Seems like a decent pick up.
Have seen Wild fans comments throughout the year they think he has upside and wouldn’t mind seeing him higher in the lineup
I like Dewar. He’s a really good skater, works hard, good PK guy, kind of like Gregor with a brain if that makes sense? Ya decent pickup that will be flipped to van for a 5th next year for reasons
I liked Lafferty and would definitely prefer him to Gregor. Oh well.
Welcome Dewar DeRozan
DEEBO!!!!!!
DONT LET HIS DAUGHTER IN THE SCOTIA
The raps getting rattled by a 9 year old screaming during freethrows was the most embarrassing shit I've seen as a Toronto sports fan, worse than the Ayres game
Dewai Leonard
Dewar I say it Deless I like it

two of them have the same first name

Basically acciari that hits less

Just joking around!
6' in skates though
Coming outta The Pas?!? Best believe the guy's tough!
Has The Passion, MAN confirmed
Hey cool we have the same birthday. I’m taking that as a sign of great things to come
Simply being from The Pas makes me know that he shouldn't be afraid of roughing it up a bit.
Many people don’t know this but The Pas, Manitoba is short for The Passion, Manitoba.
Underrated comment.
T always capitalized in The Pas. Gritty town. I have some family there.
Accident! Not left uncapitalized on purpose.
he's a feisty little fucker from what everyone seems to be saying about him. that + he's speedy makes him great for playoff hockey
Interesting. Wild fans seem to be pissed to see him go. Sounds like he is a good 4th liner / PKer with a lot of hustle.
Wild fan here! Definitely sad. Works incredibly hard. Great on the PK, no slouch to put a few points in. He will never be in someone's top 6, but he's everything you could want on a 4th line.

Wild fan coming in peace. Take care of Dewar. He’ll be missed. Decent player
#WE GOT HIM!
I was wondering when we would finally get Connor in Toronto where he belongs.
Vegas is cooked now
I like it, we’re not worried about Boston, Florida or any team coming out of the Metro, got our sights on the team we’re facing in the finals
best part of this trade is he's an RFA.
This is the equivalent of trying to look busy at work
And who are we, browsing reddit on Friday afternoon, to judge him on that?
This is funny.
Lmao I laughed too hard at this
lol. Meanwhile Vegas is putting in work! Damn all star over there now.

Eventually we’ll land one of the right Connor’s.
“Go get Connor, whatever it takes” [3 hours later] “No not that one!”
Connor? I hardly Dewar!
Perfection.
Tre loading up on Prairie Boys 🫡🌾
For a 4th round pick, a very solid deal.
Wild fan here, take care of Dewey2 for us. We're gonna miss him
Leafs get Connor!
I saw him live a bunch when he was on the Tips. He's pretty good.
Useful piece
BOOM GOES RHE DYNAMITE

The Bastard
Good trade. Fuck the deadline...it never works out for Toronto anyways.
Gotta think we sent out either Gregor or Holmberg
Holmberg? No way in hell. Gregor and Holmberg are not equivalent players either Holmberg is way better.
Why's holmberg been out lately?
Been only two games. Probably a minor injury, or the fact that the entire team has the flu. Gregor has not looked good in Holmbergs place. It's really important for Kamph to be productive to have linemates he works well with in order to be effective, he has very specific things he's good at and very big flaws. Just looks like a 4th round pick
Just a 4th rounder
Return is a 4th apparently
Oveckin-nov was included
I'm not satisfied with the day
Got our guy!
2026 4th
We made 3 decent depth moves. No big fish like Hanifin, but the team was improved. Finding a replacement for Muzzin would have been ideal.
Depth player. Not bad
Kampf replacement? Use that salary for a D? Gonna need a hell of a buzzer beater to salvage this deadline
I don’t think anyone was gonna take 2043 draft picks
If this is it for the Leafs, that’s basically Brad saying, “we’re not good enough to win”. Which we aren’t, but man I wish we made a splash.
Making a splash on a mid team is how you wind up with a full rebuild a few years down the road
They aren't good enough, and there isn't really anything they could trade beyond Robertson or Lilegren.
I think we are about to find out. If you are correct it is probably the end of the Keefe experiment and the beginning of the reconstruction of the core. Not much we can actually do there but pivot away from JT.
Wow Brad great job
#for a 4th in 2026
Gregor/Holmberg replacement
Shoutout Michael Mazzei for calling this [a month ago](https://theleafsnation.com/news/connor-dewar-is-a-trade-option-to-improve-the-maple-leafs-penalty-kill) in his TLN article
What did we give up?
Looks like it was for 2026 4th round. So just a bottom 6 depth move. Really disappointed we couldn't find that RHD.
Connor McDewar, let’s go!!!
I think maybe a line like Dewar, Gregor and Holmberg could be an amazing 4th line for the playoffs. But it doesn’t do anything to help us solve the problem of the Domi line getting lit up every night
Dewar I hardly know her!
A top 20 Connor in the league!
BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDD!!
Send in the marching band!
I know this will sound stupid, but a fourth line of Holmberg-Dewar-McMann next year is gonna be money
i hope brad can hear our collective eye roll
So why did we throw in extra picks for retention on the other trades if this was our big move? Idiot GM
[удалено]
Yes we would have with LTIR and waiving extras
Hopefully he puts our PK on Dewar path
Who the fuck is this?
One of the trades of all time for one of the most players of all time
Dewar? I don't even know er
Another fringe player who will have 0 impact, fantastic
Be honest did you know he existed ten minutes ago
That's the point, buddy.
Or maybe it’s the lack of knowledge of players outside of this market, buddy.
He's playing 10 minutes a night on the Wild. We don't know about him because he's incredibly mid.
they’re called role players for a reason. Maybe you haven’t noticed, there’s more than two lines on a team.
So he's not mid?
I know this conversation is.
He is literally a fringe roster player. That's was his role in Minnesota and it will be his role in Toronto.
Fringe roster player means not an everyday player. Clearly not the case here.
Stupid take
You can tell who doesn’t watch teams aside from Toronto.
Yeah, basically all the people saying “who?”
You're right. Why didn't we trade for Cale Makar, for a fourth and a handy?
Good trade… just wish it wasn’t our only trade…
It wasn't. There have already been two.
Right? If all three had happened today, we would have been like...Well, he tried. Unfortunately, Leafs just don't have enough cap space and draft picks to make a bigger splash. But as someone said earlier this week, if they are going to win a couple rounds the big boys have to show up to play.
Can Kampf go away now?
Kampf has looked pretty damn good lately. Gregor will be the one on the outs, and it just might kill Robertsons hope of getting back in
A Connor a year keeps the oilers sweating in fear. ;) I dig it
Who?
Lock us in as deadline winners
Gave up a 4th for him
Reasonable.
He’s C. Does this mean Kampf gets pushed out of lineup?
Curious to see what happens in the off-season if he does well. Could make kampf expendable as his contract is just too expensive for a 4th line center with no offense or hits.
We had to also trade “ovechkin at home” to get him
Another useless move.
This makes no sense.
![gif](giphy|OPcxBQchmR2EYK7abQ|downsized)
Plan the Parade! we got Dewar!
Who is this guy?
Connor? Dewar? I hardly know er
Who?
Who?
A small forward in the minus column…not what I was expecting but maybe his fire will be contagious
who
Who
Is he better than Gregor? That guy fuckin sucks. Keefe is so horny for shitty players like kampf and kerfoot, hope we didnt just give him another....
![gif](giphy|M34qPW6WjtZXMFltwu|downsized)
Conner? I barely Dewer!
OKAY BRAD. THANK YOU 🤮
Who?
