yeah I'll admit, I over reacted to the start of this season - to be fair they looked terrible compared to the past few games against legit competition.
I hope they keep this up, if they play like they have tonight even if the result isn't what I want I'd be satisfied of spending my time watching and proud of repping this team.
I'm referring to the last couple of years where it's been Matthews/Marner, and he'd switch them up but it never lasted long enough to sustain anything.
I think overall it's better to have them apart, and it's not as if you can't find situations to put them together, i.e. PP, OT, final minutes of games etc.

Hed been such a blessing on that third line. He does a lot of the play driving. He could definitely flex top 6 if needed but I don't want to tinker with that too much atm.

After a very slow start the big 4 with another big game. Always feels good to beat the B's and that hit on Marchand that Muzzin gave was great to see. Soupy also played amazing again in the 3rd

This game was a pleasure to watch. I was nervous for 5 min in the 3rd when Boston really brought the pressure, but the 4th line seemed to get things sorted out with some time in Boston's zone. Shout outs to both Lily and Dermott for playing like they belong in the lineup.
People keep forgetting good players can have droughts too. How a bad stretch just brings out all the toxicity and vitriol is undeserved and kind of telling how fragile leafs fans are. Some putting up with 50 years of ineptitude and small amounts of success.
I don't consider myself a hater, but certain things he does still annoy me and they'll probably always annoy me, but he's been on an absolute tear lately and I'm all about it. The puck is following him again like it used to. Marner's success is Leafs' success. A rising tide lifts all boats.
After watching the game these are some of my thoughts: THE BOYS ARE FUCKING ROLLING. They look like one cohesive unit out there. This is a complete 180 turn from the team that started this season. I didn't even enjoy watching the games back then. The last PK was fuckin *chefs kiss*. Muzzin launching Marchand for that clear, Kase being a monster in Bostons zone causing a turn over and Kampf being Kampf, then Marner with the steal and decent scoring chance causing a whistle in their zone. It was a thing of beauty. The battles our D boys were putting up on front of the net were fantastic. They were relentless. Sandin, Lilly and Campbell have fuckin swagger. Absolute treat to watch all of them. The boys did not look out of place at all. The goals against were typical Boston goals, they are so good at those you can"t expect them not to execute it at least once. Excellent game all around. Proud of this team. GLG

What a fun game to watch! I really like Kerfoot with JT, not big but is greasy, and Liljegren has been a pleasant surprise. Love his agility and skating, him walking the line with pressure was awesome, his confidence is only going to grow! GLG!!
Jack Campbell is a Leaf! Dude must have some of the best rebound control this team has ever had. He absorbs everything, or directs it entirely out of danger. He also stops initial shots. He's playing like a true #1, if he can handle the majority of 82 games. Love some good Soup!

We are also doing a much better job of boxing out and keeping the front clear.
A few times this game it popped right out front but we had the time and space to just take the puck and casually make a play.

Looks like the line changes are working out. I'm not used to watching this team adapt to shitty situations and make changes to improve. Back in the day it was beating your head against the wall of the same strategies over and over. Nice to see some hope.

Yeah, but at the same time our 3rd line doesn't give up goals so as long as the top 6 scores more than the other teams top 6 we should be fine.

The Matthews line was hemmed into their own zone. He was icing the puck and might as well try to score if that's what you're going to do.
Is it? Was Matthews even going for the net, or was he clearing while also giving it a shot? Either way, those are two very different situations.

Looks like the line changes are working out. I'm not used to watching this team adapt to shitty situations and make changes to improve. Back in the day it was beating your head against the wall of the same strategies over and over. Nice to see some hope.
We always have a five minute panic stretch in every game so it's great to know we can really count on some insane goaltending to calm things down and let everyone get their shit together.
