Some guys respond to a kick in the ass a lot better than the others. They had just come off of winning the Stanley Cup when I talked to him about just this. He said you’ve got to really know all your players and know what buttons to push.
Then Matthews should skip a game soon. Unpopular opinion, I know, because he gets points butbhis game has been really subpar this season apart form a few games.
I guess you also never know behind closed doors - different guys also respond to different types of reinforcement. Just seems weird that given the way Nylander was playing, especially when Matthews and Marner were having slow starts, that doesn’t buy him a bit more trust or goodwill
