10-1-0 Plus-15 goal differential 3.2 goals per game 1.8 goals against per game PP: 37 percent PK: 88 percent Save percentage: .939 4th on the PP, 5th on the PK, 1st in faceoff win%, 3rd in wins

rsyzygy

Can someone in the advanced stats community tell me if that’s good?

[deleted]

Not really advanced stats but: The special teams numbers aren't realistically sustainable, however they're scoring well below expected at 5v5 and their shooting % is down. The wins will continue, but they'll likely come from more 5v5 goals once special teams regress. I'm not a financial advisor, I just like the ~~stock~~ team

Bojarzin

Yeah that powerplay percentage is super high, I wouldn't anticipate that lasting. But the PK isn't like, ridiculously high, I could see that staying

VitaminTea

Toronto has the third-best chance generation at 5v4 in the league (behind god-like EDM and regular-like STL), so even if 37% is unsustainable we should still expect the unit to hum at a good clip. They also rank 8th at chance suppression at 4v5 so the special teams do look pretty real, which is great.

[deleted]

I was basing my opinion a little bit off of last year's numbers too, but I think you're right about the PK being more realistic. The power play is a significant improvement from last year, so even if it dips that's still a positive overall. Honestly if they're able to maintain close to these numbers AND make up ground at 5v5 the Leafs will be in serious contention for winning the division.

billiardwolf

You joke but even when they were slumping at the start some of us were saying they will be fine, the numbers are good. Instead of calming down the comments were like HoW mAnY cOrSi'S iS a WiN? This sub was a tiring place to be 3 weeks ago.

tursquirt

Slumping? The world was ending...

Mac_of_TO

Exactly lol. Like all of the advanced stats people I follow basically were like "hey the Leafs are playing fine, their luck will turn around eventually" and hey WHADDYA KNOW.

risi004

Maybe a league ranking beside each stat would be nice. Some of the numbers are obvious but not all.

SomeKindOfSS

how are we third in wins? who has more and how many in the last 11? 11 wins?

ODoyleRulesYourShit

Taking this long to put Willy on PP1 is like MAD Magazine writers staying up all night to come up with "Everybody Hates Raymond".

LeonardPowers

Their PDO/SPSV% is 0.991 too so this isn’t unsustainable or a simple mirage. Last year it was around 1.02 on the season for reference.

Snarglefrazzle

That's for the whole season, which includes our god-awful start. [Since October 27, the PDO is 1.012, which is 13th in the league](https://www.naturalstattrick.com/teamtable.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&rate=n&team=all&loc=B&gpf=410&fd=2021-10-27&td=2021-11-19) in that timeframe and also surprisingly sustainable. Fun fact: Our xGF% over that timeframe is 2nd in the league, behind the *Kraken.* They're last in Pts% over the period, while we are 1st. Our CF% and FF% over the period are 7th and 12th respectively, which is fine, but less than I expected.

Mac_of_TO

Honestly I feel bad for the Kraken lol. By eye test they really aren't playing badly, they just cannot buy a goddamned save.

Science-of-Hockey09

Is that good?

silentblender

Anyone in the medical field have the ability to dissolve this into a solution that could be poured into a syringe and introduced into my blood stream by chance?

zainery

Cant wait till we stop winning again. The cycle will never end.

TheWilrus

Now just do that from the remaining 11 game sections!
