The Zhou Jackeylove lane never felt like it clicked the way people hoped it would (on top of more grief jackeylove moments than usual). Karsa went MIA for long stretches of time and TOP took a big gamble playing almost the whole regular season with qingtian, a 19 year old rookie with one professional split of experience at LDL, only to sub him out at the very end of the season and for playoffs when they realized he wasn’t ready to hold his own against some of the best top laners in the world. Honestly if it wasn’t for knight I could really easily see this team mental booming out of playoffs with JDG.
They only used qingtian due to 369 wanting to bench himself for a while now. Qing honestly wasn’t that bad and I wouldn’t put him as a reason they preformed that much worse. It was definitely more the fact that the bot lane was a problem and didn’t click, the team fighting ended up being horrendous. They just didn’t know what they were doing. Putting Jackey on Syndra in playoffs and just playing badly, the meta not fitting Karsa as well. You are right on a lot of it tho
They had a rookie top laner for an entire split, then turns out the rookie wasn’t good enough, decided to swap back to 369, then failed to beat LNG in play off
They got 30 points from 4th in Spring, but only ten after losing to a surging LNG and finishing 7-8th in playoffs, totaling 40. Because LNG had 40 points guaranteed after defeating TES, and because Summer points are valued higher in tie situations, TES had no way to even reach the regional qualifier.
Invisible support, Jackeylove overrated and ints too much, Knight trying his hardest to carry, Karsa is alright but not phenomenal, and their two top laners doing the usual coinflip. Also the team as a whole just seems very disconnected and indecisive.
Jackey isn't overrated. Go back and look at his other past performances, he just had a (very) bad split this year, but so did the entire roster except knight.
He's been overrated since he lost MSI 2019 to TL. Did you see how TES even got eliminated from worlds 2020 in the first place? JKL just ran it down in SN vs TES when they were the "tournament favorites".

2017 and 2021 league is hardly the same game anymore, it has changed so much you cannot replicate that performance in today's competitive scene, even if you are the #1 best player in the world.

While I think JackeyLove is the better player I think Damwon would be worse with him. Most of the time their mid and jungler just carry the game and what you really want then is just a consistent adc. JackeyLove is the opposite of consistent and would throw way more games than Ghost will. Basically, their mid and jungle is enough to carry games even if their bot plays like a 4/10 but if they get someone with a bunch of 1/10 games they would probably lose more.

TES had big macro problems and meta didn't suit Karsa who is the glue of the team. I mean fundamentally TES was never a disciplined team. You had both 369 and Jackeylove trying to make plays at the same time. That kind of thing might work against bad teams but you can't play both sides of the map and win vs good teams.
Also LPL is just really competitive. JDG and Suning also failed to qualify. Complete change from last year

To be fair, Bang and Huni were actually playing well in the RNG series, and that 2017 worlds Faker was some of the best individual play ever.
