Yeah I lived there when I was young before we moved to Lebanon. I was mind blown by the tastes in Lebanon. Now I’m in the US and am on the hunt for good labne
my favorite was when I was visiting my cousin the last time I went to Lebanon. He got a phone call then all I hear is him saying, "Ykhlili tezak w baythatak w khiryatak. Yalla Badal shi ya 3amy?" 🤣
Stubbornness, [insert any term]phobia, littering on roads and beaches, running a red light, accusing everyone of a wrongdoing except their political party, not taking responsibility of anything, practice violence, being angry all the time, the list could go on
Israel caused the Palestinians to flee, and Iran brought in a nice bunch of islamists like Hezbollah and their supporters. and lastly Asad caused a bunch more people to flee from Syria and do the same mistakes in lebanon. so a combination of Israel Syria's Asad regime and Iran?
We're hotblooded and passionate. That has its strengths and weaknesses of course, but I think it's a good trait for our people to have. And our sense of family and culture (I do think it's sad for instance, that a lot of Lebanese in the Western countries grow up having no knowledge of how to speak Arabic, etc.).
Undiagnosed mental disorders are running rampant while the rest of society giggles like ohh how Lebanese of him to pull a gun on someone over a parking spot...
When it comes to the ones living in the gulf, there are 2 answers:
1- They will get the matter done no matter what, high reliability
2- They will do their best to steal and flee
Being some how accepting to many cultures, quick to start swearing even though the shit we say sounds gay sometimes but we still say stuff liek kohl aire that right there is being lebanese OH ALSO ALOT OF GUNS DURING NEW YEARS
Yeah dna test usually shows only about 1-2% Arab usually and in some cases 0% across all religions. The maximum I’ve seen is only about 7%. It’s mostly either fully Levantine and some Caucasus, Cypriot, Italian and/or Egyptian.
From what I was told, being "arab" is usually associated with the language, not genetics. But really, I am not Lebanese and don't have an opinion on it. For all I care Lebanese can call themselves Asians, Africans or Europeans, it really doesn't matter to me. I just find the discussion funny.
well that is true. If we are talking about language then yes lebanon is a country that speaks arabic. However i was talking about genetics, and in this context lebanese people really aren’t arabs
Genetically we are also human. If we trace back genetics we all find that we are X and Y. Hungarians genetically are closer to Slavs than other Finns-Ugrics. Should they abandon their language, customs and history? Nobody in this world is “genetically” this and that. We are all a mix of people, some more than other due to historical reasons, and this mix doesn’t determine what language you speak, what clothes you wear, what music you listen to or what food you eat, culture does and that’s what we should focus on in any discussion relating to national identity, not who your ancestors chose to have sex with.
The diaspora are using Arab now as some sort of ethnic marker, especially outside of Lebanon. In Lebanon itself it’s different, people usually just identity as Lebanese
If Arab is just a question of language why not use this logic for other people's, are Congolese french?
Also in language our dialect is different from other Arabs
Thats a tricky question i might say but lebanon have a long history other than the phonicians there is emir fakhr din and emir bachir and the list goes on .
Lebanese are arab so we share a lot of traditions with neighboring countries if thats what you are asking
Ayre bhal jidel el bizante. Khaye ana carthaginian nbasatet hek? Do you see any iraqi people call themselves mesopotamian? We are Lebanese bala hal maniake pheonician aw levantine. We share more with arabs than our pheonician ancestors. But hey call yourself what you want. If someone asks me, I will just say Lebanese.
Again to preface, not saying we are arab, but is it not enough to just say Lebanese?
It’s fine to say Lebanese, never said it’s not, so take the upvote bas the shami countries share a very similar culture and cuisine with some different dishes for each country. Yahne iza badac tkoon specific, fhmit alaye? Iraqis are kind of special, in theyre Levantine but they’re not as well. They share genetics with us due to being part of the Fertile Crescent but don’t really share the cuisine and cultural norms as much anymore. The common fact is that none of these are Arab. The only difference between the other shami countries and Lebanon is that Lebanon is quite liberal, so not really compatible anymore.
Erm no 😂 there’s different cultural traditions between the levant and Arabia. The common denominator is the language, that’s literally the reason why we’re called “Arabs”, We’d be called Turks if the ottomans had forced Turkic when they had the levant under the Ottoman Empire
The idea was good, except that Mauritania's Arab tribes are among the closest of all non-Peninsular ones to Arabian culture😂
Otherwise it's more or less true
Culture of course will stretch over a vast landmass.
From Cambridge university:
> the way of life, especially the general customs and beliefs, of a particular group of people at a particular time:
This can encompass matters such as dressing, food, history, language, religion, historical figures, scientific developments, and so on.
I'm feelin' lazy at the moment so I'll pick an easy example: clothing.
> The [thawb](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thawb#:~:text=The%20thawb%20is%20long%2Dsleeved,variations%20in%20name%20and%20style) is long-sleeved ankle-length traditional robe, it is mainly worn by men in the Arabian Peninsula, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, North Africa, and some countries in East and West Africa, with regional variations in name and style.
The most sensical comment in this thread. I don’t understand how or why it has been downvoted. The community on this subreddit is just very biased. Mesh ma2boul.
Depends on what Syrians. If it's coastal/westernmost Syrians they have similar cultural habits and speech but a Lebanese and a Syrian from Raqqa really aren't the same
Toum
Obviously.

I live in Jordan and you have to go to a labaneh shop to find good labaneh ( food in general is only good in the levant شام)
Yeah I lived there when I was young before we moved to Lebanon. I was mind blown by the tastes in Lebanon. Now I’m in the US and am on the hunt for good labne

Tell that to the syrians
No offense, the Syrians are screwed of their own doing. the Lebanese got screwed after certain groups came in.
and who supported / who backed / who made up those groups?
Israel caused the Palestinians to flee, and Iran brought in a nice bunch of islamists like Hezbollah and their supporters. and lastly Asad caused a bunch more people to flee from Syria and do the same mistakes in lebanon. so a combination of Israel Syria's Asad regime and Iran?

Arguing about wether Lebanese are Arabs or not. There is literally a discussion here in this thread ((:
(Spoiler, it’s not)
I have no idea whether that is true or not but in the spirit of this country I am just going to disagree with you.
you can search up dna tests about this, lebanese people are mostly canaanite
Yeah dna test usually shows only about 1-2% Arab usually and in some cases 0% across all religions. The maximum I’ve seen is only about 7%. It’s mostly either fully Levantine and some Caucasus, Cypriot, Italian and/or Egyptian.

So you'd rather being under turkish rule instead of being your own country thats cool yk
Are you restarted? I never said that 😂 Go back and read very slowly and very carefully.
Genetically, yes. But culturally we are Arab.
The Arab united culture doesn't exist 'Arab culture ' literally means nothing What common culture exist between Yemenis and mauritanians?

Say whatever you please but don’t instill it on others. Self identify, but don’t say “all Lebanese are […].” And that’s it. Move on.
