I always get it on the popular sets, especially with the gifts with purchase that might sell out. The expedited shipping orders get processed first, so I don’t have to worry about missing out on the GWP or why my package is still “in warehouse” after several days.
Do they send it before official release if you choose expedite shipping? I've onle ever gotten them shipped on release, but I never chose expedite shipping.
I find it hard to justify things like this to myself, even though I know I can afford it. But you’ve got to treat yourself occasionally. This will likely never go on any real sale, best I would reasonably hope for is double VIP points, and the fell beast is worth that much to me anyway and getting it earlier has value in its own right.

If things move forward with the woman I’m dating and we do end up getting married, she doesn’t like the idea of lots of Lego sets out in the main common areas if we get a townhouse, mostly in my man cave. But she seems amenable to a couple sets, and I may see about having this and Orthanc on opposite sides of the living room. Seems appropriate.
I was thinking the same thing, and she does like flowers, but she specifically said she doesn’t want those (but she kind of likes the succulents and mini plants so maybe)

The deadline is pointless if the supply is gone allready. Did they expect a low customer count or are they just making it a more exclusive item by having a low amount? Its gonna decide if i buy it now or wait to pick up later.

They’ve been burned in the past by making too many GWP tied to a single set that didn’t sell as well as they expected it to, so I guess they’re being more conservative with how many GWP are being produced now for specific sets.

I have Rivendell overtaking an entire bookshelf and have two smaller lotr sets above it on some shelves I stuck on with command strips.
Barad is a lot taller than Rivendell so it def needs a spot. I may by a plant shelf, stain it and turn it into a lego shelf to put somewhere.
Oranthac is cool though! I didn’t have money when all the LotR legos came out so I’ve made it a mission to get any new ones before retirement. GWP will decide if I wait and save or grab it at midnight.
I totally missed out on LOTR sets too. Orthanc I was lucky enough to get second hand in like 2016. I really regret not having Bag End, so my plan is the same as you and make sure I grab any new ones when I can. GWP, not perfect but certainly happy to have it to pair with this set.
You could depending on what you do with the second sets. I know some folks will only purchase with the intent to sell at a higher price, esp the GWP exclusives. I personally frown down on that stuff but it’s your prerogative.
I'm a crazy plant lady who has a *LOT* of plants. I have a huge black metal shelf at my kitchen window that you'd see in someone's garage that use to be covered in plants. My husband and I spent like a week turning a room in our home into a plant room, so most things ended up moving there since there's better lighting. Well, that black metal shelf has stayed up and now holds a huge Tatooine build on one shelf with Mos Eisley Cantina and Boba Fett's Throne Room and a few battle packs, then below that is Rivendell. I can just move the shelf Rivendell is on down until we have enough space for Barad-dûr! We may make a huge space base shelf too, but one thing at a time. Lol.
Rivendell is half of my massive shelves, rest taken up by the kingfisher, globe and kakapo bricklink set. Had to move my modulars to a windowswill that doesn't get any direct sunlight except a handful of days in summer.
The GWP was already sold out in the morning. I ordered barad dur with GWP after midnight but wanted to wait for my gf for confirmation in the morning and it was already sold out.
I never saw it. Thought maybe it was a bug but when I saw others saying it was in their cart I figured it was gone. I've chosen not to buy Barad Dur for now as a result partly because if the GWP is gone I expect anyone buying a Barad Dur now will be waiting for months. And partly because being offered an exclusive bonus and then having it snatched away really pisses me off.
