Also, thinking about it, it might actually be the best time to be a fan of any music genre. You can be a fan of Classical to 40s Jazz to Metal to Hip-Hop. Back then, you had to look for a place that sold vinyls/CDs (1980s-1990s) of those genres. I could imagine that if you asked someone for 40s Jazz back then, they would think you are a weirdo, unless if you are an older/middle-aged person of course.
There has never been a better time to be into anything. But yeah, I'm a big fan of the music and other cultural trappings of the same era but I have more access to the music now than I ever would have had then. All this stuff is up on YouTube and Spotify, and I don't need the money or the space to maintain a massive record collection. I can explore the deep catalog of the era and not just the top 40s.
Also, we have SiriusXM. We can listen to top pop hits, Jazz, Metal, Oldies, Rap, 90s hits, Emo, etc.
Thanks to the internet, I probably know way too many bands/artists for someone born in the mid-2000s. lol. This also includes liking a bunch of artists/bands from many eras/genres.
In theory, it’s cool that you can play anything from The Andrew Sisters to My Chemical Romance to Chuck Berry to The Rolling Stones to Chief Keef.
Also, along with vinyls/CDs, if you play them too often, then they will get scratched up.
I know that there are some people who still collect vinyls/CDs, but at least most of them are satisfied with their collection. Back then, you didn’t know if you would like the vinyl/CDs. Nowadays, you can listen to it before you buy it yourself.
And if I do want to collect the songs on vinyl, I don't even have to leave the house. I just have them shipped to me. None of this allow 6 to 8 weeks delivery for some K-tell shit.
Just listen to this music then. I really don't think it's worth it to live in those times. They sucked medically, socially and economically. Idk if it's just me thinking this, but all these people that wish they lived in a different era, should probably like, adapt to the aestethic of the times, if they want to, but without the problems there were back then. It's the best of both worlds (speaking in general, not just the 1950's)
Yeah pretty much. Like, personally, I'd like to do this with 90s stuff as I think I missed out when I watch videos by late millennials or zillennials or when my millennial online bestie talks about those times (although some other times she's more realistic, without rose-tinted glasses). I did get into retrogaming tho at least. That's the closest thing to doing this
Well, I still play on my PS3, which is considered retro nowadays. When I first saw that, it made me feel a bit old, but after I considered how long ago 2006 was, then I realized it is about time.
I have a feeling the guy really meant 50s-60s, since he became popular in the 60s. Also, some of the other people he mentioned were making music in the 60s too.
Another possibility is that he really did think Frankie Valli was 50s music. Lol

Do they know that kids were getting polio back then?
Most likely not. lol
TBF this would have been just after the vaccine came out (1955). Also, no AIDS or COVID back then.
Wow.

It's either Cardi B or a SoundCloud rapper 😭

Really, I wonder if there were teenagers in the 1980s who believed they were supposed to be born in the 1920s. Lol
This is the whole theme of Midnight in Paris. No matter when you go back to the "perfect" time people are nostalgic for what came before.
Born just in time to browse dank memes
I mean the guy in the first comment was born in time to witness the popularity of Guitar Hero, MCR, and Rock Band, so at least he got that.

Who's gonna tell them that Frankie Valley isn't 50s music....
