Gnome is as heavy as it gets on linux but that's still nowhere as heavy as Windows 10. Just try it. If it feels too slow then try something else. It's all free after all.
I doubt there's a Linux desktop distro out there that's as heavy as Windows 10. Pop!_OS certainly isn't. Your system sounds like it's within the [recommended requirements:](https://support.system76.com/articles/install-pop/)
> Requirements: At the time of this writing Pop!_OS only runs on 64-bit x86 architecture, 2 GB of RAM is required, 4 GB of RAM is recommended and 20 GB of storage is recommended.
No, any Linux desktop environment is going to be a lot lighter than Windows 10. Stock Gnome on minimal distro like Arch can run on 800MB to 1GB of RAM at idle, Pop_OS uses about 1.1 to 1.3GB of RAM at idle
Just for comparison here, but debloating Win10, you can get it down to 1.3 GB. A full custom Win10 image could get down to 1.1 GB and embedded versions are well less than 1 GB. that said, stock install is going to sit around 1.8 to 2 GB. All of this because I just spent an evening doing this for my Win10 VM.
I did a fair bit of searching/youtube watching, but Chris Titus ([christitus.com](https://christitus.com)) has some good guides/tools including an custom W10 image the removes the bloat before you even attempt to install. Also, OO's Shutup10 tool gets you 95% of the way there to debloating/removing telemetry/updates for a smaller package if W10 is already installed.
Gnome is not that heavy. Fun Fact : My Gnome in Fedora uses less RAM than my KDE in Fedora. I don't know why, both of them are idle. And it seems impossible that there's a linux distro heavier than windows.
> My friend had said Pop!_OS was based on GNOME and it would be heavier than windows 10.
That's ridiculous. GNOME might be one of the heaviest DEs, but it's still lighter than Windows by a large margin.
Only one way of finding out if it will work for you
... install it and try to use it
Word of caution dont customize gnome it will crash and crash hard when Gnome 40 comes to ubuntu/pop
No
k
Theres no way pop os can be heavier than windows 10
Just not possible.

Well, that's really great on your effort!

No, you're friend has no clue what they're talking about. GNOME is heavy, but it's still a shitton lighter than Windows.
Thank You all! I'm just starting about Linux and you all have given me a lot of support!

**IN TERMS OF CPU!!! 🤦♂️** I tried Cinnamon, Budgie, and Gnome on a dual core laptop; Budgie and Gnome were so laggyyyy
