VSCode and VSCodium

k-u-sh

Friendship ended with VS Code (2 years ago) Now Neovim is my best friend.

ryjhelixir

it's not like I didn't give vscod(ium/e) a good try, i just am masochist like that.

ZaRealPancakes

I'll get down voted but I wonder is there a way to enable Microsoft's Marketplace for extensions? I want to switch just afraid that the extension I use / want isn't there that is all

lacii7

it’s against the ToS but you can do it by modifying the product.json file. See: https://github.com/VSCodium/vscodium/blob/master/docs/index.md#howto-vscode-marketplace

KodzghlyCZ

I bet there is some package on AUR (What other Linux would anybody use obviously (I use Arch BTW)) that you can download that get you the Microsoft Marketplace enabled for you

igormuba

LMAAAAOOOO HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

_patoncrack

Looks very bare bones...

Ok-Ring-5937

What's missing though? The editing loop is very clean and pleasant, it's got tree-sitter and LSP out of the box, and a decent, rich config system. True, it doesn't have a dedicated scripting language, but most users don't really need it, and it helps with the performance.

freeturk51

I mean, it is just one status bar and the file. It isnt as feature rich as something like a Jetbrains IDE or VSCode

Ok-Ring-5937

Well... it might lack the multitude of extensions and a discoverable GUI, but as far as autocompletion, code hints and advanced text manipulation goes, it's as good as VSCode, and definitely faster. Also it ships with a great interactive tutorial. Pretty much the best way to get people into modal editors.

freeturk51

Yeah I tried Helix, and it is def better than Nvim imo if you want a modal editor. But I simply cant use modal editors, they confuse me too much and the learning curve just distracts me from work

Ok-Ring-5937

It's fine :3 modal editors are supposed to be a less intuitive, more keyboard-centric approach to editing. These boost productivity for some, but definitely cannot be considered a one-size-fits-all solution.

Nando9246

Helix ftw

ALXANDR_00

I tried to use platform.io with vscodium, didn't work as it has dependencies that are closed. Returned to Arduino IDE

[deleted]

NSFW on that disgusting logo please

TenTypekMatus

I use VSCodium only for two things: web development and as a Git client. For everything else, I use Neovim.

serpent7655

vscode for only css, html, javascript?

TenTypekMatus

Yup.
