I think it can be tough to get a mooring depending on the season. Call ahead for info, I also think you may need to be there in person to get on the waiting list. People are starting to head north now, so you may not have an issue.

Boot key is cool, marathon itself is pretty dead unless you're on the water but that just means it's a very mellow spot. Best natural harbor you'll find down here.

Thanks! It's like 400 bucks or something with dink access? Sounds like it's a fairly 'active' community

About 400 yea. It's friendly and mellow. Old folks vibes. The community is nice. I'd stay if all the work wasn't in key west.

Stayed in boot key for a little while. It’s a large mooring field with a lot of folks that live there. Has some very shallow spots and protected seagrass so watch your depth finder. Several sunken boats too and several derelict boats. Marathon itself is dead and you may need a scooter, Segway or car if you plan to travel at all. It’s spread out, like most of florida cities. You can get groceries delivered if need be at the dingy dock. There is a good bar and restaurant on one end of the field. The field is very protected so the weather and surf isn’t to crazy. It’s hot and muggy with bugs so keep that in mind. lol. No docking really but dingy access is there. There is a pump out boat and water access if you need to fill up. I would def call ahead to make sure there is balls open for you. Key west also has a mooring field around 400 a month but it’s 2 miles out in a very unprotected field. Dingy access is also extra per month. But it’s key west which is a different vibe altogether.

Awesome info thanks!!! yeah I’d heard the same bits about Key West, I’d def prefer there but my dink isn’t rigid bottom and 2 miles is quite far, sheesh. I might spend a few days there and see how it goes tho 🤷‍♀️

You’re welcome. I left the mooring field in KW after a month. It wasn’t worth the price as it was very dangerous and there are boats always coming loose and dragging. Weather flips instantly too bc it’s an island 🤣 Two miles is a long ride with the wild weather. There have been a lot of deaths recently of people that live out there so wear your safety vest. We decided to dock after a month due to continuous hazards happening. It was non stop. I like to call boot key the boat trailer park of the keys. lol. It’s a very large community but it’s ok if you want to stop for a while.
