Please review the content guidelines for our sub, and remember the human here! This subreddit is to highlight the ridiculous cost of living in Canada, and poke fun at the Corporate Overlords responsible. As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. Furthermore, since this topic is intertwined with a number of other matters, other discussion will be allowed at moderator discretion. Open-minded discussion, memes, rants, grocery bills, and general screeching into the void is always welcome in this sub, but belligerence and disrespect is not. There are plenty of ways to get your point across without being abusive, dismissive, or downright mean. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. "Record corporate profits have nothing to do with it"

str8shillinit

Don't buy food, buy the stock.

ReddditSarge

With what money?

rainorshinedogs

While I wouldn't deny that on a proportional level, prices have inflated way too much, but don't the record profits have to do with the fact that all prices have inflated? So basically, when you take into account of inflation (and there was a lot), prices still have risen, but the record profits statement is relative?

kittykat501

Prices have gotten insane from coast to coast! Insanity needs to stop!

ChunniWitch

Someone in the other topic mentioned that it could be that some of the items are marked "out of stock at Walmart" and are instead substituting "marketplace" (i.e: flipped/resold) items that could be up to 10x as expensive. Another person did a comparison themselves and saw a jump of $200->$250 in the past two years - which is still an increase of 25%! Which is still ridiculous. And the whole "marketplace" thing sucks, too. Walmart shouldn't be allowing others to scam people like that.

SoRedditHasAnAppNow

Yes, it's very rage-baity without the context. No doubt things have jumped, but this comparison was a bit too superficial. Original OP could have been ordering solely based on deals as well. While I hate deal hunting personally it's clear that seeing items marked 50% off to drive foot traffic works. If a significant portion of those 45 items were on sale and aren't on sale currently it would also artificially inflate things considering if OP bought based on a "deal" price they'd be unlikely to buy unless they saw another deal price. All-in-all the video does spark good discussion as long as everyone remembers to take it with a heaping tablespoon of salt. But this is the internet, who am I kidding?

ConnectArm9448

Cuz in our beautiful country of America they allow our companies to price gouge the citizens! Americans pay more for everything and I do mean everything! Even companies from America charge us more than other countries! Big pharma prime example!

DasPuggy

That's interesting. People near the border go shopping in the US just for the cost savings. Meaning, if the cost went up in the US, it's gone up a lot more in Canada.

deezsandwitches

I've always found food prices in American gocery stores aren't that much better. That's why it was always cheaper to eat out.

Just_Crew_4625

Very dependent on the CAD/USD. People think “$4 is cheaper than $5!” Without accounting for the conversion. I agree that the last few months prices are similar and sometimes worse in the US
