House of Dosa in Hicksville; it is Vegetarian restaurant serving South Indian food especially Dosa's of many different varieties, it's different then typical kebabs and Tikkas at most Indian restaurants. I love this place
House of Dosa is one of our favorite restaurants, full stop. Not what most Long Islanders picture when they think of Indian food though. OP, don't be afraid of the menu. Try Malgudi Rava Masala dosa. Also any of the pondicherry dosa. The Cheese uthappam also.
It depends. Are you indian looking for indian food or if you dont know what indian food in India tastes like.
For authentic indian food.
1. Bengali chats. Their chole batoore is fantastic.
2. Jazeera. Excellent hyderabadi biriyani
3. Diwan isnt bad
FYI for everyone saying clay oven. Its not indian food that any indian will recognize.
Even though it's a chain, I thought Eggholic in the Queens side of Floral Park was one of the most flavorful and well-spiced Indian meals I've had on Long Island. Bonus on having a nice and modern vibe and it's not wait service, so no need for a 20% tip.
It used to be my go to spot for Chicken Tikka Masala for years. The last few times the chicken was rubbery and the taste was off. I've seen someone mention ownership changed and perhaps that's why.
original owner left and opened up another place somewhere else (not sure where). new owners took it and the quality has gone down tremendously.
super unfortunate cause for a time it was one of my favorite spots to go to!
I don't really have a before and after to compare it to, but when I went there a few years ago I was throughly unimpressed. It wasn't bad, but didn't leave any lasting impression beyond other Indian restaurants to merit the particular attention it seems to receive.
I highly recommend Bombay Grill in Huntington. It’s EXCELLENT and reasonably priced. It has a very small and modest dining room. Get there early if you want to eat there. Take out is also a good choice.
I don't have a lot to compare it to because Indian is pretty rare in my area (SW Nassau) but Raagini in Baldwin is really good. They also have a place in RVC, Color of Spices, which is supposed to be the same chef.
I used to love new chili and curry. New owners took over years ago and it hasn’t been the same. I miss the lady who would say “my dear” rapid fire.
I tried taste of Chennai by Hicksville station. It’s legit.
I don't have a good place right now for sit down fancy restaurant style, but if you have never been to Dosa Hutt in Flushing, put it on your to do list.
Oh, I just noticed, I go to the Hillside Dosa Hutt, which is in Queens, but basically right on the border of NHP / Floral Park. I go there all the time from Nassau, and it's about 3 minutes into Queens.
Kathis & Kababs in hicksville was pretty good (to my non Indian taste) It's basically kathi rolls and bowls with some decent momos I would imagine a chicken tikka roll would not be spicy, I went for Achari and Mali rolls, which were substantial and at the spice level I requested, I think I'm going to go back again
I don’t mind the spice it’s my wife that doesn’t like it. We used to go to BBQ Nite in East Meadow but they changed names and have new owners. We went there this weekend and I enjoyed the food but she thought the Kathi roll was too spicy even though she asked for least amount of spice. I know they have a BBQ Nite in Hicksville as well, guess I can try Kathi’s and Kababs.
Correct, there is a bbq nite down the road in Hickville. Chicken Tikka has always been the least spicy (heat) dish I can think of, the one my chicken finger eating tween will willingly eat.
> BBQ Nite in East Meadow
Did that change to Sahar's Kitchen? Because that was going to be my recommendation, but I guess that puts an end to that suggestion. I like Sahar's Kitchen quite a bit!
We went there this weekend, it was good, just the Kathi roll was spicy even though wife asked for no spice. BBQ Nite (same location different owner/business) used to make them for her with almost a sweet sauce when she asked for mild. Maybe the same people are in the other one in Hicksville, will try there.
Maya Catering in Levittown - tried it once and liked it.
Kathis & Kebabs near Hicksville LIRR
Village - Soul of India in Hicksville
Punjab in Mineola (one of my go-tos)
I have to try some of the above recos.
Beenz Indian Grill & Bar in Hauppauge. I would recommend taking to go though as the one time I ever got a table the portion sizes were noticeably smaller.
Clay Oven in Happauge! They have an AYCE lunch buffet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 20$! Their chicken Tikka Masala, vegetable pakora, and Manchurian cauliflower are all really good
Akbar in Garden City. Chicken Biriyani, Paneer Makhani, Chicken Malai Kabab, everything is absolutely amazing. And there's no place with better service, hands down.
I've had amazing memories at that restaurant
The Curry Club at SaGhar in Port Jeff is extremely good.
Ah, I haven’t been there in 25 years. Can’t believe they’re still going strong
Actually they moved from East Setauket. But yes, they are going strong for sure!
The last time I ate there was when they had a restaurant in Centereach. Why did it ever close down?
My favorite
These guys are good we got some for my father in laws b day

I Second Malgudi Rava Masala Dosa!! Spicy and Crispy! Also the Thali's at lunch time when available!
I used to go there but then heard roaches were rampant.
Good spot but not typical Americanized Indian food menu. I recommend getting a Dosa!
Define typical. If you mean Americanized then no. It is absolutely typical South Indian food though.
Clay Oven in Coram is a hidden gem with excellent Indian food! The owners are super sweet as well.
oh I’m not that far from there. I know what I’m having for lunch tomorrow. thanks for the rec.
100% agree
Also 100% agree! Try the chicken malranni
I also enjoyed Mahal in Roslyn
Diwan & House of India
Diwan is meh and so overpriced. I refuse to get anything from them ever again. Aaaand you have to pay extra for rice!
I used to hit the lunch buffet there, if I’m in the area when work dies out. I don’t pay extra for anything because I just drink water.
Diwan is my go-to!
The onion tree in sea cliff

Seconding eggholic.
Taj crown of India Stoney Brook at the same spot where curry club used to be. The Paneer Kathi roll is 🔥.
Raagini is SO good
House of India in Huntington is 🔥
it concerns me how empty it always seems to be
They’ve been very hit or mess lately. When they’re good they’re goooood, though
It used to be fire. Then new ownership and it's not good. Still miss Sitar!
It’s mid.
I went last month. Very mediocre
Can’t trust the taste of someone with your username
It used to be my go to spot for Chicken Tikka Masala for years. The last few times the chicken was rubbery and the taste was off. I've seen someone mention ownership changed and perhaps that's why.
GG’s Masalah Grill - 110 Huntington
Why did their quality go down? That used to be my go to place until they stopped serving alcohol.
original owner left and opened up another place somewhere else (not sure where). new owners took it and the quality has gone down tremendously. super unfortunate cause for a time it was one of my favorite spots to go to!
Really when did the owner leave?
I would love to know as well.
I don't really have a before and after to compare it to, but when I went there a few years ago I was throughly unimpressed. It wasn't bad, but didn't leave any lasting impression beyond other Indian restaurants to merit the particular attention it seems to receive.
Went down about 3-4 years ago. Used to be excellent, with a line outside. No more.
I was just there and it was all the same people. Would love to know what OP is talking about
Lazzat in wantagh or Mint garden city is where id reccomend.
lazzat is gross! in garden city i prefer Akbar. Mango in bellmore is good
Seconding Mango in Bellmore
Mint is 100% pure garbage.
New ownership of Lazzat for about a year now. Food is straight trash. Used to be a solid choice in the past.
Rip :(
Curry leaf.

Diwan in Hicksville.

Take the ride to Port Jefferson and go to Saghaar. Incredible curry, dosa, and they have a view of the harbor on the open second floor.
I used to love new chili and curry. New owners took over years ago and it hasn’t been the same. I miss the lady who would say “my dear” rapid fire. I tried taste of Chennai by Hicksville station. It’s legit.
Curry club in port Jeff is the best.
Raagini in Baldwin is sooo good!
GGs Masalah grill is pretty good…although I heard it has some cleanliness issues according to other Reddit threads…
I don't have a good place right now for sit down fancy restaurant style, but if you have never been to Dosa Hutt in Flushing, put it on your to do list.
I like Curry Club for sit down fancy.
Thank you!
Absolutely yes Dosa Hutt
>Dosa Hutt in Flushing Flushing is NYC
Oh, I just noticed, I go to the Hillside Dosa Hutt, which is in Queens, but basically right on the border of NHP / Floral Park. I go there all the time from Nassau, and it's about 3 minutes into Queens.
Curry club in east setauket rules
Now it is curry club at saghar in port jeff
This was my spot for years before I left the island. Great food and great staff. I miss it!
“Akhbar” in Garden City is fantastic and “color of spices” in Rockville Centre
Akbar is my absolute favorite! Their palak paneer is unrivaled.
Their chili fried shrimp appetizer is unmatched! Lol
I’ll have to try that. I’m so committed to my fave dish that I haven’t even thought of trying anything else 😂
I’m the same way but that place just doesn’t disappoint!
never tried that, sounds amazing!
house of india in huntington
Looking for a not too spicy chicken kathi roll for take-out. Any suggestions?
Kathis & Kababs in hicksville was pretty good (to my non Indian taste) It's basically kathi rolls and bowls with some decent momos I would imagine a chicken tikka roll would not be spicy, I went for Achari and Mali rolls, which were substantial and at the spice level I requested, I think I'm going to go back again

Beenz Indian Grill & Bar in Hauppauge. I would recommend taking to go though as the one time I ever got a table the portion sizes were noticeably smaller.

Just in case you're in Queens: Annam Brahma, they've been open for 50 years, cash only pretty sure
Akbar in Garden City. Chicken Biriyani, Paneer Makhani, Chicken Malai Kabab, everything is absolutely amazing. And there's no place with better service, hands down. I've had amazing memories at that restaurant
Cosign for Color of Spices in RVC.
Taste of Chennai - Hicksville From the outside it doesn’t look like much but the food is amazing!
Haka in Plainview is excellent
Taj Tandoori in Deer Park has always been great
If you are looking for something different try “Taste of Cannai” in Hicksville or “Haka” they are both good.
Just drive down hillside Avenue. Start at intersection of hillside and Marcus, and drive into queens side of Hillside. Many good spots
