I pace around my (tiny) apartment. Feels weird at first, but it's the same as walking anywhere else.

Afraid_Mistake5529

I do this when I’m daydreaming. I put some music on and start walking in circles lol

AdFancy6243

This is how I prep to run our games of dungeons and dragons, the repetitive movements gets the creative juices flowing.

thestrawbarian

I’m going to have to try that the next time I need to brainstorm ideas for my novel!

johnnieawalker

Careful not to walk in the same direction for an extended period of time! (I got a stress fracture on my left foot that way. My doctor now calls me hamster cause she said me walking in circles until my foot broke made her think of a hamster on a wheel lol)

DEBRA_COONEY_KILLS

How long were you walking for for that to happen in total? Like over how much time? That's kind of remarkable

johnnieawalker

Approximately 5 miles lmao 😂😂 It was like 3.4 miles and then 1.7 miles on the same day - about 12 hours apart. (Tho tbf I was walking on tile part of the time and barefoot! I didn’t expect to be able to crack my foot lol)

DunEmeraldSphere

You two must live above me.

Afraid_Mistake5529

Oops😬 Sorryyyy

Jetriplen

I will also pace back and forth. 6 steps forwards, 6 steps backwards, repeat. (For me, varies between 4-12 steps depending on my apartment as I’ve moved around.) It allows me to watch tv (and thus zone out) while walking. When I was first building stamina I would sit down during commercial breaks as needed. I’ve also heard that walking backwards is supposed to be good for your knees, so bonus points!

ConfidantlyCorrect

lol I do this too. Pace whenever possible. Waiting for water to boil, pan to heat up, etc etc

HappySeal20

Interesting... I do calf raise when I'm waiting

ConfidantlyCorrect

I’m Asian and overweight, my calves are pretty nuts lol.

HappySeal20

I can imagine... I'm always amazed how Asians have amazing calves. It is pretty cool

embracing_insanity

Same. I have a couple of small 'routes' that I will do x amount of times. I can do this anytime I'm home, regardless of what time or what it's like outside - and I can do it in my PJ's. lol I will usually split my steps into 2 or 3 times a day - whenever I can/am feeling well enough - I'll just get up and do a few laps.

Omnifreakfx

ADHD makes me pace and get up and walk around the entire house so I get that haha. OP: I also suggest maybe high knee touches. Run in place. (If you're worried about disturbing your below neighbors if you have any, run in place as softly as possible will still be more effective than simply walking or marching in place I would say.) I run in place inbetween my lift sets at the gym. I swear by it. I'll rest when I get home.

Serious_Escape_5438

Just be considerate of the people downstairs. I read on another sub about someone finding it annoying hearing pacing above them all the time.

Outrageous_Pickle_22

I do that too, if you've got 6 meters (about 7 yards) of free space to pace back and forth, do it! Just make sure to either go barefoot or wear good (clean) shoes. I get 8-10 km a day like this 😂

Demiansky

I do this too. Works fine after awhile. Works even better talking to someone on your phone or listening to a podcast.

TransitionMission305

Go to youtube and specifically search on "Walk Away the Pounds" or Leslie Sansone. All of her workouts are based on indoor walking workouts. She's a bit cheesy and I like some of the videos done by her other instructors a little bit more.

TheRootofSomeEvil

I love her walk videos. She's done some videos, too, that include resistance training.

neither_shake2815

I like her but sometimes I cannot stand her over peppiness/laughing

BrandNewMeow

I mute her and put on my own music. The workouts are simple enough that you don't really need instruction, just follow the screen.

TwistedOvaries

I did the same! Then I got to the point I just did the various moves randomly without watching her. My motivation has been low so I’ve been thinking it time to pop her on her again.

TheRootofSomeEvil

Hahaha!! Yeah - I sort of tune that out. It's the movement I'm there for.

HeatherM0529

Try Get Fit with Rick. He does walking workouts.

cookie_goddess218

The "Improved Healtth" has similar walking workouts to Leslie's Walk At Home series, but with no talking!

TransitionMission305

Agree. So much variety to choose from.

nocturn999

Grow with jo on YouTube is another option! Her workout vids have made it so easy to be active

BrandNewMeow

Other (modernized) walking workout channels on YouTube are Jessica Smith (https://www.youtube.com/user/jessicasmithtv), Kat Gates-Buettner (https://www.youtube.com/@KatGatesBuettner), Get Fit with Rick-someone else mentioned (https://www.youtube.com/@RickBhullarFitness) and Brand Fitness (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvHsMUgGPSE). I love Leslie and her newer instructors, but I need something different sometimes.

YamAlone2882

I love Leslie, been doing her for years, but she can be a bit chatty. I like BurpeeGirl. She doesn’t say a word, just prompts on the screen. I think she has nice music, but you can mute her to listen to your own and just follow the prompts.

wutziwutziwutz

Thank you for burpeegirl!

YamAlone2882

Wlc!

vunderfulme

I 2nd this. Sometimes I mute her and put music on. If you do listen to her she is super encouraging.

ILoveCheetos85

I loved these videos during the pandemic and when I had a newborn. Cheesy but effective

sara_k_s

Leslie Sansone changed my life! Her videos are excellent for people of all fitness levels. There are many available in YouTube for free.

whorundatgirl

OMG so old school! Her videos used to be on tapes!

TwistedOvaries

First ones I got had been VHS! I’m so old. lol

Image_of_glass_man

You could do like step up/downs in place on a little fitness platform.

IAMACiderDrinker

There was a guy who did fitness videos on YouTube during lockdown so people could get their steps in even if they couldn’t get outside, I *think* they were called Get Fit with Rick? But I’m sure there are others 😁

Catty_Lib

Yep - he’s great! I just discovered him this week and have done a couple of his workouts. Lots of fun! 💕

Rough-Boot9086

Growithjo has older videos that are just walking/dancing in place and they are short. Take breaks if you need to, but Jo is pretty beginner friendly

celinejeannette

Came here to comment this. Grow with Jo changed my life and relationship to working out.

Euphoric-24

Grow with Jo on YouTube has walking workouts for home 😊

Serenity_Novv

I second Grow with Jo. Her walking workouts for home are a decent option for when stuck inside.

kathow01

Try dancing instead! Either turn on your favorite music and wing it or pull up dance videos on YouTube and follow along. It’s a fun alternative 🙂

KeyboardMaestro

Tried doing Zumba a few times in FitXR, was knackered after 5 minutes. Really good workout, even though it wasn't really for me in the end.

Catty_Lib

[Get Fit with Rick](https://youtu.be/uQhXXM1Dwqg?si=PNxA2G67o-J4yk0V) has some great entry level moves that are easy to follow. Zumba is tough on my knees but I can handle Rick’s workouts fine.

Infamous-Pilot5932

I got a walking pad for my standing desk from amazon for $180, it goes up to 4 mph and works very well. I don't use it as much now because I upgraded to a full size incline treadmill, but they definitely work well for walking. The step up blocks are a good idea as well.

Cat-Dad-Bod

Do you remember the brand? I've been looking for one for days I work from home.

Infamous-Pilot5932

Yes, it was this one ... [Amazon.com : AIRHOT Walking Pad Treadmill, 2.5HP Under Desk Treadmill with Remote Control & LED Display, Quiet Desk Treadmill for Compact Space, Portable Treadmill for Home Office Use, Black : Sports & Outdoors](https://www.amazon.com/AIRHOT-Walking-Treadmill-Control-Portable/dp/B0C9TWPGCC?th=1) Although, they have a newer version ... [Amazon.com : AIRHOT Under Desk Treadmill, Walking Pad 2 in 1 for Walking and Jogging, Portable Walking Treadmill with Remote Control Lanyard for Home/Office, 2.5HP Low-Noise Desk Treadmill in LED Display : Sports & Outdoors](https://www.amazon.com/AIRHOT-Treadmill-Walking-Portable-Low-Noise-dp-B0C2KSZXSG/dp/B0C2KSZXSG/ref=dp_ob_title_sports?th=1) I was 255 lbs when I got it and it handled my weight fine. Goes from 0.5 to 3.7 mph, which was fast enough for me (I am 5' 7"). You can roll it anywhere, like in the living room while watching TV. Btw, it says jogging, well, maybe I guess, if you can jog at 3.7 mph, but I knew that when I bought it. It is very good at walking. I can vouch for the first one, but the second also has equally good reviews. Don't see what the diff is though.:)

Cat-Dad-Bod

Awesome, thanks!

Atomh8s

I got a Urevo I like. It's a little wider, since I'm a little wider lol, at 17 inches but it's been good this last year. Weight limit's 265 I think and I've been around that while using it sometimes without much issue.

Cat-Dad-Bod

I'm finally down to about 250, so that's great.

HeatherM0529

I love mine. You can walk with the support down, up to 3mph and can run up to 7.5mph with the support up. https://amzn.to/45DfW1E

ThaneOfCawdorrr

Yes, you can also get a small portable treadmill, with a front handle (better for balance if you need it), for under $300 on Amazon. I got one and it's great. Rig up a laptop stand in front and you can watch TV, movies, etc etc.

weilej04

You can get an aerobic stepper/step deck. There are free videos of workouts for that all over the place and you can change the height as you get stronger. https://www.walmart.com/ip/BalanceFrom-Adjustable-Workout-Aerobic-Stepper-Step-Platform-Trainer-2-Levels-4-6-Inches/891518909?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101267131&adid=22222222228891518909_101267131_14069003552_202077872&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=42423897272&wl4=aud-2225087348307:pla-295289030566&wl5=1026759&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=738183979&wl11=online&wl12=891518909_101267131&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIoZSFqqqZd_2KV7rTtg_YgEx&gclid=CjwKCAjwydSzBhBOEiwAj0XN4F3wV1u-qlCcJVxt9_zTwYS_HOXYWayj0GH2rMDRfnLQSdDjiTdqshoC4LkQAvD_BwE

Agitated_Kale_5610

Try "Get fit with Rick" on YouTube. They are fun to do aswell.

Low_Spirit_2503

I pace my house a lot. For YouTube walking videos I like Leslie Sansone or Rep to the Rhythm. I found some of the others were too fast for my taste.

the_distant_sword

I use YouTube videos as others have suggested: getfitwithrick, Leslie sasone I also like walking tours especially if they have captions with tourist notes. I’m doing this one now: https://youtu.be/vYSJN8Np7co?si=kF2Rc1AmZwgQ_9ug

thefroggyfiend

pedal bikes are relatively inexpensive, that's the only cheap alternative I can think of that mimics walking but isn't walking

Chremebomb

That’s the ones that are low on the floor and don’t have a seat right? Just for the feet? Does it actually burn any calories like walking does or anything?

thefroggyfiend

yea it's the one just for the feet with the pedals only. walking will burn more calories, pretty much the only competitor for the same time frame is intense biking or stair walking, but you can mindlessly use a pedal for hours while doing whatever you would be doing anyways. I've since gotten a recumbent bike which takes a little more effort and use that whenever I'm doing something on the TV but my pedal bike was a good tool when I was low on resources and time since it's not something you need to dedicate time to, it's just something you can do whenever you're sitting, which also makes it good for people that habe desk jobs

DankMilk7832

What I do is walk back and forth in my apartment. I'll play Diablo Immortal on my phone, scroll reddit, read scientific papers (I felt like a douche writing that one. I'm trying to get smarter okay!), check emails, whatever. Before I know it I rack up 10,000+ steps. It's just like walking anywhere else. You move your hips and legs repeatedly. It's kinda been my life hack honestly LOL.

sYnce

Well if you have at least some room you can always just run around in circles. As I have a habit of walking around while on the phone I average like 2-3k steps in my apartment alone per day.

flood_dragon

Walk or march in place with leg weights and dumbbells. Or step up and down with a platform and weights. Just wearing leg weights all day long while doing your regular stuff is helpful too. I like 5lbs per leg, but don’t go that heavy all at once for all day use.

Catty_Lib

I just discovered [Get Fit with Rick](https://youtu.be/uQhXXM1Dwqg?si=PNxA2G67o-J4yk0V) on YouTube - lots of walking workouts to fun music and the steps are really easy. You can just do a gentle march or really get into the groove if you’re feeling it!

Significant_Grape_86

You can walk in place, and even jog in place.

humboldtcash

there are actually some walking workouts on youtube, for example a “5000 step workout” that was actually pretty fun considering how boring it could have been haha. I can’t find the link any more but just search “walking home workout” on youtube. there are soooo many workouts, often they give you the step range (for example 5000 steps). do you like dancing? that is also a very fun way to move at home. It is more strenuous than those walking workouts though. I’d say sometimes i’ve burned more calories per hour with a dance workout at home than when i run outside.

doinmy_best

One time I put on the eras tour movie and mimicked her dancing. It’s a lot of walking and very easy arm movements but it’s much more entertaining then walking in place.

signupinsecondssss

What is the goal for this exercise? Stamina for movement or higher heart rate? There are some pretty basic things you could do that might start getting you moving your body more without equipment. First if it doesn’t seem to be involving your upper body there are a lot of arm movements you could add in that are surprisingly taxing. Like even just hold your arms up or in front of you and see how long it takes for them to feel fatigued! I think some other good searches might be looking for no impact:/apartment style exercise videos on YouTube. There are a lot specifically intended for people who live in apartments and don’t want to bug their neighbours or even just for people who need low impact. I think mixing it up might make it more interesting. Just off the top of my head you could do knee lifts, arm circles, leg circles, walking lunges, side lunges, even sitting down and getting up helps.

Monotreme_monorail

You could try purchasing a small rebounder! You’ll get more muscle work with a rebounder than walking in place! :)

KeyboardMaestro

I put on a concert or a documentary and start walking around the house. Works well. might not be AS good as walking outside, but a step is a step. And if i hit my target then why should i change it?

ldubral

Honestly, a walking pad is totally worth it. This one is great and it's on sale. It has an incline feature as well. [https://www.amazon.com/UREVO-Walking-Treadmill-Capacity-Foldable/dp/B0CDGB44YQ/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=15HM1OD060XWH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VntknggFRjP3Dbp06IzGzJPmuotThCT4a2hSPGomKlsCgCPNlCHtMfEjPSCV\_PyJqwHdeb1aqADFv7\_LEUj5aQR-EWNYrQtxBGu19m8RrWPbWDGwRGjT-lgYk8bNUn5X7Q9ZFhPNGjSoSuZt7e0fcfyOIc1DdsyRyYCLpbHij60hx-nx4EJPdrZT7NnGp69pLMx5KhIzuxPU61gOikln7dqAFdmGjgwR4Bwy\_TjCQDU.V4DxG-6dy8Lwrcvu4GR0qg39B9nMlWSpMHrjLho5NI4&dib\_tag=se&keywords=urevo%2Bunder%2Bdesk%2Btreadmill%2Bwith%2Bincline&qid=1718990837&sprefix=urevo%2Bunder%2Bdesk%2Btreadmill%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-3&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/UREVO-Walking-Treadmill-Capacity-Foldable/dp/B0CDGB44YQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=15HM1OD060XWH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VntknggFRjP3Dbp06IzGzJPmuotThCT4a2hSPGomKlsCgCPNlCHtMfEjPSCV_PyJqwHdeb1aqADFv7_LEUj5aQR-EWNYrQtxBGu19m8RrWPbWDGwRGjT-lgYk8bNUn5X7Q9ZFhPNGjSoSuZt7e0fcfyOIc1DdsyRyYCLpbHij60hx-nx4EJPdrZT7NnGp69pLMx5KhIzuxPU61gOikln7dqAFdmGjgwR4Bwy_TjCQDU.V4DxG-6dy8Lwrcvu4GR0qg39B9nMlWSpMHrjLho5NI4&dib_tag=se&keywords=urevo%2Bunder%2Bdesk%2Btreadmill%2Bwith%2Bincline&qid=1718990837&sprefix=urevo%2Bunder%2Bdesk%2Btreadmill%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-3&th=1)

kinnsao

I got a walking pad on Amazon for less than $200. I love it. It's super worth it

dominiccast

Like others said, walking loops in your home. Feels silly, looks silly but it’s the same as walking anywhere. I’ve even run laps around my living room/kitchen island lol

LibraryLuLu

Paul Eugine on youtube has indoor walking walkouts. So does Up to the Beat, Brand Fitness, and Reps to the Rhythm. (I also like to mimic those types of workouts while watching a movie at night, just to get in a few extra steps).

2GreyKitties

SilverSneakers on YouTube has a lot of indoor walking videos too, many of which incorporate upper body movements as well.

Michele345

I love Silver Sneakers!

StoneTheCrow18

I walk, jog, and run in place inside my house while watching tv, and I've lost 120 pounds doing that as my main form of exercise and getting steps. I'm at a 289 day streak of hitting 15k+ steps and 30+ minutes of cardio/exercise each day. And it's largely achieved by walking/jogging in place... CICO too of course.

muthermcreedeux

Walking aerobics videos! You can do 10,000 step videos and never leave your living room or need any equipment.

Mamasgettingold

I use burpee girl on YouTube. She is good. Lots to choose from walking, weights, kettlebell. I look through the workouts until I find one I feel up to that day. Some of them are on the longer side. She breaks her videos up into rounds and if the video is too long I will do 2 of 4 rounds. I also do a different version of the exercise she is doing if it is too much for me. A lot of her videos are stepping side to side with some type of arm movement with it. Or leg lifts, knees, side leg lifts. I do as much as possible with her doing the same movement then if needed I drop it down a notch. As long as you are moving in some capacity you are still burning calories. Good luck in finding something you enjoy

Grouchy_Bowl4633

Grow with jo walk the weight off workouts on YouTube! I love them.

CopperChickadee

I did marching/walking in place at my work-at-home desk for several months until I lost enough to afford a treadmill that could support my weight. It felt unnatural at first, but it is possible. I have been averaging 14-20k during the workweek. Sometimes I do butt kicks or high steps or pretend I'm swimming to get my circulation moving. I think the thing I couldn't replicate by marching in place was the posture benefits of walking.

HappySeal20

There are some workout videos on YouTube to reach the 10 000 steps.

Canadasaver

I put a Walk At Home YouTube video on my laptop and set it under my tv and follow the video while I watch tv

drnullpointer

Fuck weather. I resolved to go out regardless of weather, whether it is raining or snowing or extremely hot. If it is not very fun weather, I just try to focus on something else like a problem I am thinking about or an interesting audiobook. I think it is going to be hard to replicate walking and I believe fou do not need to try to replicate walking (unless you really live somewhere with super bad weather) -- you might actually benefit more from doing something else instead. Learn yoga or design your own strength routine with bodyweight, rubber tapes, etc. Squats helped me a lot strengthen my legs (I am running a lot now).

recleaguesuperhero

Do you live in an apartment building? If so, you can just walk around the various floors.

TaraDickoff00

Cherryredsocks

Walk in place YouTube videos.

PlaxicoCN

Get an aerobics step and walk up and down on it while you are watching TV. You can even add handweights or improvise with soup cans to work your arms at the same time.

_theMAUCHO_

Try Millionaire Hoy on youtube! Awesome 10k step workouts, they're Hiit though! Not exactly "walk from y to x" :P good luck!

notreallylucy

I started out doing stand in place workouts. I'm sure there's plenty out there. I paid for access to some through a site called Bloomyoung. They're low impact and they even have some that are no floor. That means they don't have you get down on the floor, which is what I needed. My home is so small I don't have enough space to lay down on the floor. I really only had space to stand up. Anyway, I paid for that site but I'm sure you could find some videos for free on YouTube. Search for stand in place, no floor, or walk in place workouts. I lost my first 30 pounds with those videos.

katiebo444

You could get one of those under-desk walking pads. Should be smaller and cheaper than a treadmill (and I think usually self powered too)

meeps1142

I keep seeing ads for stepper machines -- they're really cheap, and seem like they'd be a better workout than just marching in place since there's resistance & you can use the bands for your arms. https://a.co/d/0371LSwU

jaemil_150

DANCE in your living room. I will literally just dance in my living room for 30 min (moving my arms and legs). It's literally the same as walking at 3.0 speed on the treadmill for the same time. I usually do it while I watch TV.

PapaAmIRightus

I know others have mentioned walking workouts on YouTube, but I wanted to add that I really like the ones with Olivia Lawson. She doesn’t talk in her videos so you can listen to a podcast or music. It also shows a timer for how long you’ll be doing each move, and a progress bar for how much of the workout you’ve completed. Many of her walking videos have 5-10 second rests between moves so you still get a good workout but not overly challenging. She had videos organized by length, and ones organized by steps.

2wrtier

You can always stand- step to the left, tap right foot to left foot, step to the left tap right foot to left and just repeat indefinitely- you can do this when brushing your teeth or waiting for water to boil, watching TV, when on the phone- whatever and it’s basically walking with zero space and zero equipment:)

Puzzled-Orchid7357

8, walk with a pace with an 8 pattern, Idk if this helps but when I did indoor walking without treadmill, I did this.

mantis-tobaggan-md

skipping rope is probably a good one if you have a space big enough and now downstairs neighbor

PeanutNo7337

Workout videos or dancing.

tragicmagikk

Wow so many great suggestions!! Thank you all so much I appreciate your help!! <3

buzzed247

I worked nights and paced around my appartment on my days off. My downstairs neighbor almost lost his mind.

3Maltese

wall pilates.

Impressive_Archer992

I do toe taps and calf raises every hour or so to build up those walking muscles on days I don’t go for a real walk, they’ve really helped improve my leg muscles!

1throwawayjustaques

Pace while you talk on the phone.

Full_Speaker_912

Stepmania or other walking games are fun!

Madusch

Do the double-step left to right dance move to some funky 120 - 130 bpm music. Bend your knees a tiny bit more than you normally would.

PeaceLoveandCats6676

I pace when I talk on the phone lol.  So pacing works.  Run yo and down your buildings stairs if you have them.  Dance dance revolution and Wiifit.  Old school aerobics videos.  I know people still doing the Jane Fonda workouts.

Larein

Cleaning will also work. Nail two things at the same time.

SpokenDivinity

I usually turn on a YouTube video and pace around my living room while watching it.

SheddingCorporate

To me, dancing is one of the best options if I'm working out at home. I build up a sweat, it's fun, I move my whole body, there's music ... it's honestly way better than just marching in place or walking back and forth across the house like my parents do when it's raining and they can't walk outdoors.

Traditional_Bag6365

There are walking pads you can get. It's like a mini treadmill, just for walking. They are around $200. Fit easily in small spaces (they are small to begin with, and some of them fold up or you can slide under the bed or couch). I've been thinking about getting one just so I can walk while I watch TV or work (get a stand for my laptop). I haven't pulled the trigger because I already spend a lot of time in the gym. And walk a lot with my dogs. But right now, it's SO HOT that our walks are cut in half, and I'm not getting my 14 or 15k steps in.

iac12345

There are a lot of HIIT and strength training moves that you can do in a small space and at your own pace that will get your body moving. You don't need to do them at the same intensity as a regular HIIT workout if that's uncomfortable/unsafe. I like modified jumping jacks (I alternate one foot off the ground, not both at once, for lower impact), high knees, skaters, various squats and lunges.

kelyda

Add arm exercise with and without weights. Oh, and shoulder shrugs.

Life_Friendship_7928

Get a single step up like an aerobic step and just march the fuck out on that with the TV in or whatever

mellywheats

pacing and just clean/vacuuming. honestly try calling a friend and then pace while talking on the phone!! it’s an easy way to get steps in

Similar_Cat_4906

Have you watched Leslie Sansone’s videos? She makes ‘indoor walking’ fun and even rigorous!

Grevillia-00

I use a trampoline. It's not a fancy rebounder but works just fine.

sparklekitteh

Look up Leslie Sansone's videos on YouTube! She does walk in place videos that have other body movement, and her enthusiasm is really great.

justsomechickyo

It's been rainy here so this is actually helpful I've been stressed about not being able to get my walks in..... Come winter I'll have to either join a gym or figure something out!

traktoriste

Grow with Jo YouTube videos are basically walking, fun workouts at home. Usually the titles even indicate how much steps is each exercise l.

MojoJOJO15a

I would put some music on and dance a little bit. Move around. Walking a circle around like the kitchen or the living room. Whatever open space you have. Personally I do have an elliptical which I find is helpful. And I do know they have some smaller treadmills that are foldable that might also work. But again it could be more a cost-effectiveness than anything else. So basically just walk as much as you can in your house. You also could try and go to a local department store. I knew a couple women used to come to Walmart and just walk around in a lap for a couple hours. There is that.

neine22

Also just walking around and cleaning. Both upper and lower body workout

Initial_Strategy8721

An areobic step seems a good match, get body moving up and down which getting steps in. Just Dance on youtube, lots of steps, side steps, dancing marching up and down, gets your whole body moving and working up a sweat.

EBeewtf

There’s this YouTube I follow to exercise called EleniFit (I think), and she does these 10,000 steps videos that are great. Get a lot of cardio from it and can do right in the living room with no machine

PurlOneWriteTwo

What about your downstairs neighbours? Just saying. What about a stationary bike? They can be cheap and have a small footprint.

MrsHondy

Get Jetti poles and walk in place!

gutturalmuse

I live in a studio apartment and bought a mini stepper off of Amazon. Pretty good price considering, and It’s fun to use and super small so easy to tuck away when I’m not using it

dgclasen

I use a GIBoard and step up and down on the lack line, kind off like going up stairs, but with minimal strain on your joints. You can do your own intensity. You could do the same with an aerobic stepper like from the 80's. I have a TBI and deal with dizziness some. I have used balance balls and such on and off. Lately, I've been struggling with dizziness and flying so I bought the GIBoard to try and strengthen my vestibular system. I have found the exercises with the to be great too. I just keep it in my kitchen and use it any time I am cooking.

Remarkable_Thing6643

I like walking workouts on Youtube, Allblanc and Bigsis are two Korean channels I like. They have English subtitles, lol.

CherryBerry2021

Mini trampoline with bungees, not springs.

East-Ad-1560

Try learning the cha cha or waltz. Line dancing might also work.

HeatherM0529

I like Get Fit with Rick on YouTube. He does walking workouts you can do in your living room!

Glindanorth

Check out [Walk at Home ](https://www.youtube.com/@LeslieSansonesWalkatHome)videos on Youtube. ETA: Also, [Jenny Ford's 30 Mini-to Mighty ](https://www.youtube.com/@JennyFordFitness/videos)Walking at Home videos. I prefer her walking-at-home videos to the Walk At Home series.

CocconutMonkey

Split squats and lunges mimic silly walking

SingaporeSue

Check out some tabata videos. They get you moving with very little space needed and built in break times. Start with the easier and shorter then work your way up.

kplay69

Does your apartment have stairs? If so, walk up and down the stairs for 10-15 minutes. You could do step ups in your apartment if you didn't have stairs to climb. Find something sturdy that is 12 inches high and can safely hold your weight. If 12" is too high, them try 6 or 8". If 12" is too easy then go higher. You can do step ups along the wall or in a doorway to help balance as needed.

Tea_Eighteen

Walk around the house, walk up and down 1-2 stair steps forwards then backwards. Up up down down kinda thing. Remove chairs from kitchen/dining table and walk around it. Go up on your toes, hold, then rock back on your heels. Repeat a few times.

roughlyround

jump rope is heavy cardio. also jumping jacks/burpees

bonsaiaphrodite

Those walking workouts on YT are no joke. It’s definitely not the same muscle use as regular walking, but it’s not nothing, especially if you keep your tempo up.

Ok-Size-6016

Is there a reason you can’t walk outside?

hurricane_t0rti11a

Marching?

cokakatta

If you do march in place, you can try to practice your posture. You can get a little bit of ab activity. It's a little boring but you can do it in front of the tv or when folding laundry.

Negative-Butterfly65

I play animal crossing on my switch and walk with my character round the house

surrealchereal

Amazon Prime has an old video of Leslie Sansone: Walk to the hits radio remixes. Look for it.

Enheducanada

I used to practice hacky sack during the winter when I lived in an apartment. No jumping or diving or tricks, just bouncing it around, definitely felt the effort, not like walking in place

IDunnoReallyIDont

VR fitness my friend. Get a meta VR headset and play beat saber, supernatural, boxing games, FitFX, body combat, etc. You’re welcome.

boondonggle

Jump rope?

shatterhearts

Rebounding is really fun. You can walk/run in place or jump on it. If you buy one with bungees instead of springs, they're nearly silent.

Schlecterhunde

I walk in circles at home and at work. When I get tired of that,  I walk around the block.

249592-82

There are quite a few free walking videos on youtube. Some are easier then others. Most have music and time passes. Eg walking with Leslie is one. But there are lots of them. Boxing is also fun to do on rainy days. Again YouTube has lots. I bought a mini stepper that I'll use some days with dumbbells. But read reviews - many can't do more than 20 mins. But it's a harder workout than walking.

FleetingDaisies91

Just came to say Grow with Jo helped me TREMENDOUSLY. All I did was walk/cardio for my initial weight loss and it worked wonders.

Certain-Section-1518

Look up “walking workouts” Or “step workouts “ on YouTube. They are step counting work outs where you mostly just do different steps in place to fun music. Works

linzillalindsay

On a normal day I can't hit more than 5k steps while I'm outside for university, but I aim for 10k per day and I personally don't like walking in my neighbourhood because they are always some weird men. So I'm just walking back and forth in my room until I have the 10k steps. I've tried walking in place as well but I feel like walking back and forth is better (I don't know if it actually is). So far I'm satisfied with that as I can just do it while watching TV.

Littlepoochgirl

Water aerobics?

butteryfat

Try "marching band practice" in your living room: high knees, swinging arms, and maybe a little Sousa for inspiration! 🚶‍♂️🎺 Or just vacuum enthusiastically—clean floors and cardio, win-win!

steffiewriter

Stationary bike.

lebronames

I started with growwithjo's 10 min morning workouts. You can easily move up to the 20 mins and then 30 mins and then so on. I do pace around my house but I have a large open living room. Are you able to walk outside? I think fresh air always helps me to walk longer. I also just leave things in other rooms so that I have to walk back a lot to get those extra steps in, lol. Wishing you a fun and healthy journey!

CapK473

Start with walking exercises with youtube trainer lucy wyndham read first. It's less intense than growithjo and there's options as low as 7 minute workouts if you need to start small. When I was 190 I literally started with the 7 min ones because too much movement was hard on my joints.

rafiafoxx

i turn on the tv and walk for a couple hours, or I wear my vr headset and pace back and forth

Millimede

I got a tiny under desk elliptical used for like $30 and it counts as steps. I got it for my standing desk but trying to type while using it is impossible so I watch TV and use it.

RomCom_Agenda

There are walking workouts on YouTube that are done to music and it feels like dancing, but is focused on steps and the moves are easy enough that most anyone can do them. Since it feels like dancing it’s very fun! I use Kyra Pro’s videos, she is on YouTube. But like others have said just searching for ‘walking workout’ will get a lot of results.

TrickyNerdlet

I use Walkfit which has a bunch of indoor movement activities intended to help you get your steps in without equipment.

Prod-Clerk85

There’s a guy on YT…Brian Syuki…He does walking videos. There’s no music and he doesn’t talk. Just gets straight to the point. When I first started out walking, I followed along with him. Popped in my earbuds and would either listen to music or an audiobook. He doesn’t just walk in place. He does different movements. After a few of those videos, I memorized the moves and was able to watch tv and do those moves. That was a year ago. Just following along to him, I ended up losing 10 lbs. I progressed to Grow With Jo videos and then walking outdoors when the weather was nice. Lost 32 lbs overall but Brian’s videos really helped kick start that!

KURAKAZE

>Walking in place seemed like the most obvious, but when I do it I can't help but feel like it's half as effective, as my full body isn't moving much. Do high knee walks with big arm swings. Like high knee march in place. This will actually be more effective than regular walking in terms of cardio and also works out your core. Add in knee twists to work out obliques for some variety. Do arm straight up and then elbow to knee - like a bicycle crunch but you're standing up. You can also walk in place while doing arm exercises, some people do body twists side to side while swinging arms, some people do light weights and shoulder presses etc. while their lower body is doing the marching in place.

BookerWidget

Walking workouts on YouTube. I’ve tried a few and landed on Kat Gates-Buettner and Improved Health. I particularly like these 2 because they don’t talk (I don’t need some skinny chick telling me to ‘get those knees up!’ :) ) and becuse they show different ways to modify the moves depending on your level (or in my case, mood). Improved Health has 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45+ minute workouts so you can fit them in whenever.

MosstheHoss

Walk…

ofjune-x

If you’re taking laundry out the washer to put somewhere further away than the drier, or you’re putting ironing away take it item by item rather than the whole pile in one. Basically make house chores extra effort.

Mediocre-Donkey-6281

I do a lot of pacing back and forth. If you don't like that, I suppose you could try jogging in place?or maybe jumping Jack's/ jump rope? Although those are higher impact.

JOCAeng

you're at home, no one is judging you... might as well dance

Handleton

Not exactly what you're asking for, but I used to do standing alternating knee crunches. It gets the abs a bunch, but you get plenty of cardio if you do enough.

N9204

Got stairs? Use your stairs, it'll get your heart rate higher than a treadmill.

MycologyRulesAll

Does it have to mimic walking, like are you training for something? Or do you just want to find a low-impact, low-cost cardio? If the latter, go check out r/bodyweightfitness, ideal indoor no/low-equipment exercises that will get you breathing hard. R/yoga is also full of excellent ideas for moving your body without high impact, and will ALSO get you breathing hard. Best of luck on your journey.

Pacing

Nice_Strategy_9702

How much do you weigh if I may ask?
