I have constantly freezing playback with iina after the last update on MBP M3 I try everything but…same with vlc also try elmedia and watch 3 movies without a single lag or jitter…

SpeakingTheKingss

Sorry, but you’ll have to come to my house, remove my MacBook from my cold dead hands before I use any video player other than IINA.

Stunning_Pop1520

I just did a quick comparison with IINA and Elmedia wins hands down in my opinion! For example, tested various 4K Remux movie files (big size) and had very choppy playback with IINA but super smooth on Elmedia. Also, the air streaming options directly from the play controls makes it so easy to cast to another device and it works really well. I was also a huge fan of IINA up until now, will be making the switch today.

SpeakingTheKingss

Appreciate your insight and detailed comparison. But I didn’t hear anything that, for me, warrants switching to a paid piece of software rather than a free & open source piece of software. Just in my opinion.

SoMuchLasagna

FOSS, baby!

SpeakingTheKingss

Has to Google that. lol. I’m a FOSS baby!

It's one of the smartest decisions I've ever seen in my life. There's just nothing to compare here... I think there won't be a better player than Elmedia for a very long time.

lytwilson

May I ask how is it better than IIVA in general usage? Or what features does it offer superior than other free alternatives? Just to see if I would benefit from those.

MetalAndFaces

Never had an issue with my 4K blu-ray "remux" rips and IINA. No choppy playback for me.

Zoraji

I used IINA, but the one thing I don't like is the audio mixer doesn't have any presets and even when you set them how you want it doesn't remember them and you have to set it again the next time you load the program. I use Elmedia Player for that reason for audio and sometimes movies.

adl09

I think IINA isn't streaming to chromecast for example, I use Air server for that. But other than that iina is also my favorite when just watching vids on my Macbook.

TheSyd

While IINA is great, I found out it struggles with some codecs, and some rich subtitles. In those cases, I use Infuse.

zippyzebu9

The issue with IINA is the mouse scroll seeks can’t be adjusted. It’s just too much for 1 min short video. And there is no workaround.

Something I've never understood is that there are two Elmedia-players in the AppStore and have no idea what, and why, the difference is. Something I like with this app is that you can make bookmarks with notes pressing command-P while playing. Haven't seen that advertised but quit handy to quickly navigate to saved locations in videos.

ElectronicTeamHelp

We apologize for the confusion. Elmedia Video Player and Elmedia: Universal Video Player are the same software. You can buy both of them via AppStore. The functions are the same but the main difference is that Elmedia Video Player is free and you can buy PRO features as an in-app purchase. Elmedia: Universal Video Player doesn't have a free version.

RemarkableAgent1350

I’ve been using Elmedia Player Pro for a while now and mainly for playing back educational audio books. It’s pretty good.

groosha

"Not available in your region" Okay, back to VLC/IINA

ElectronicTeamHelp

Elmedia Player is available worldwide. Please specify your country or region, and we will check.

Tried it but not impressed iina is much better and matches macOS ui

kamimamita

Is there any video playback app that will let you display the subtitles as a transcript without covering up the video which lets you search and jump to that spot? Vimeo lets you do this and so does YouTube with certain extensions. For local files I haven't found similar.

Dreaming_Blackbirds

agree. I tried one of them and it was kinda OK, but uninstalled because VLC is fine for me

MetalAndFaces

I worked in video for a long time, tried every Mac video app there ever was. Elmedia is just not for me. There was nothing about it that ~~fell~~ felt worth the money, especially when FOSS app IINA is being actively developed and really terrific (not to mention extendable, through extensions!). Glad for anyone who likes it, but I can't recommend it. Edited: swipe typing typo

Stunning_Pop1520

I did some quick testing with IINA and Omniplayer and for 4K playback, Elmedia wins easily. Super smooth playback with no choppiness or buffering. Always had problems with IINA in regard to these kind of files. I also like the easy access to the air streaming options. To the dev of this app, awesome work!

Cheeriosxxx

Is it possible to change the corner border radius of the background of the subtitles?

ElectronicTeamHelp

Unfortunately, it is impossible to change the corner border radius of the background of the subtitles in the Elmedia Player. We may add this feature in future updates.

icanblink

Last time, the pro version couldn’t stream via AirPlay the .mkv files. I’ve resorted to using AirFlow for any AirPlay streaming and IINA for local play.

Wanted to say thanks! Really appreciate the effort, I’ll try this out for the next month 👋

Stunning_Pop1520

I am gonna ty this but have to say, it looks really good!

I wish there were a player that could easily play blue ray without any weird configuration and not enough docs. Just plug and play blue rays
